Echoes of the Serpent

Rate this book
She's been hiding in the darkness for centuries. But now the gods are paying attention.

For centuries, Ophira Naga has perfected the art of hiding in plain sight. As one of the world's most sought-after security consultants, she's built her reputation on protecting secrets, especially her own. But when a lucrative job leads her into a web of stolen relics and ancient conspiracies, the carefully constructed walls around her past begin to crumble.

The necklace is more than a keepsake. It’s a chain, binding her to secrets that refuse to die. Each piece of the puzzle pulls her deeper into a labyrinth of buried truths and forgotten lies. The relics aren’t just dangerous; they’re bait. Someone is setting a trap, with gods at the edges and monsters in the shadows.

She can feel the web tightening, each step pulling her deeper. But she’s not the only one watching. If she can’t outmaneuver the net closing around her, she won’t just lose the job. She’ll lose the one thing she’s never let anyone

Her identity.

Because some relics were never meant to be found.
And some monsters were never meant to stay buried.

For readers who crave urban fantasy where ancient myths collide with modern danger, where every secret cuts like a blade and legends refuse to die.

About the author

A H Jordane

A H Jordane is an author of emotionally resonant storytelling, immersive worldbuilding, and characters that linger long after the final page.

Her work spans urban fantasy, suspense, and paranormal romance, often weaving together high-stakes tension, sharp emotional arcs, and moments of unexpected humor. Jordane’s stories explore identity, obsession, betrayal, and transformation — themes that unravel through cinematic pacing and layered, character-driven plots.

At the heart of every story is a deep love for clever structure, meaningful resonance, and the emotional truth that fiction can reveal when it dares to dig deep. Readers who crave immersive worlds, complicated relationships, and a touch of myth or menace will find a home in her pages.

Outside of writing, Jordane works in tech, bakes as a form of alchemy, and unapologetically spoils her extremely beloved dog. She believes fiction is one of the last wild places — where readers go to feel deeply, lose themselves, and come back changed.

I love Greek mythology, so I was definitely intrigued by the blurb for this one. I was immediately drawn into the story, and I was intrigued by Ophira. She is a very strong personality at first. Her assistant Aric was probably my favorite character with his steadfastness and loyalty. Oh, and her snakes; they were just perfect as sidekicks. There were a couple of things that drew me out from the story a little bit. One was the intermittent repeated words/phrases/scenes. It wasn’t bad, but it was enough that I noticed. The second one was the personality change Ophira seemed to go through with the introduction of Marcus. However, that could be something that is explained in a later book. Other than those two things, I really did enjoy this book. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

I was hooked from the cover and description and so glad I was able to get into this urban fantasy novel. The overall concept was what I was looking for and enjoyed the feel of this world. It was a great start to the Stone and Shadow Chronicles series and how it was used in this universe. A H Jordane has a strong writing style and was glad I read this.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Gripping and beautifully layered

This book pulled me in from the start. Ophira Naga’s story feels real, her struggle to hide from her past and the danger that keeps chasing her hit close to home. The mix of ancient myths, modern suspense, and raw emotion kept me turning pages late into the night. It’s not just fantasy, it’s a powerful story about identity, survival, and the secrets we carry.

Medusa as a treasure hunter in modern times - the premise of this book made me really excited to start reading! From a writing perspective, the story starts strong with Medusa as this ancient being completely in control, with maybe a slight crush on her attractive co-worker and absolutely amazing bang-snakes (loved their banter!). However, the rest of the story could have profited from another round of editing in my opinion. There were multiple instances where repetitions of the same actions or just phrases ripped me out of the story, and Medusa's decision to be more cautious and then still trust Marcus over and over again felt very repetitive. Also, the big fight in the end was quite the let-down for somebody who enjoys epic finales with high stakes.

This is not too say that I don't think others won't enjoy the story though! I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading psychological suspense with a hint of mythology.

Thanks to Honeywood House LLC and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC! All opinions expressed are my own.

I love the storyline and how it takes Medusa into the 21st century. The characters are intriguing (love the snakes) and the twists in the story keep you guessing who and what to be suspicious of. No spoilers, but I am ready for the second book!
