Escape to Holly Berry Lodge in the Scottish Highlands, curl up next to a cosy fireplace with a warm mug of hot chocolate, and join Mairi Fraser as she’s forced to spend the festive season with the one that got away…
Thirty-three-year-oldMairi is spending Christmas at her Aunt Effie’s ski lodge. It’s her favourite place, where she spent every childhood holiday, and the comforting view of the mountain tops is just what she needs after a rollercoaster year. But Mairi finds herself unexpectedly snowed in, along with her handsome ex Jed Murray…
As the snowflakes fall heavily outside, she closes her eyes to block out the sight of Jed’s dark hair and broad shoulders, his muscles flexing as he stacks the logs he’s gathered to build them a fire. But even though they’re united in their goal of getting Effie’s lodge ready for Christmas, Mairi is determined not to fall for Jed again.
Except moving on from him is easier said than done when they’re in such close quarters. Their time together draping tinsel around the Christmas tree and baking gingerbread cookies in the kitchen makes the memories of how good they were together all come rushing back. But will Jed reveal the real reason he left and earn Mairi’s trust once more?
Will the avalanche of complicated feelings they have for each other keep them apart? Or when the snow starts to melt, can the magic of Christmas bring them back together?
A gorgeous winter romance to lose yourself in this Christmas. Perfect for fans of Nicola May, Trisha Ashley and Debbie Macomber—and best accompanied by a mulled wine!
Winter in the Scottish Highlands sounds like a dream, doesn't it? The snow is falling, the sleighbells are ringing, people are drinking cocoa by the fire, some are hitting the slopes, some are ice skating, and some want a divorce! Wait, What???????????? Christmas at the Scottish Lodge is a festive, snow filled, close proximity, second chance romance book! The setting was phenomenal! The book is set in such a lovely winter wonderland full of holiday cheer, fluffy snow, and warm fireplaces. Too bad there is an avalanche - an avalanche of feelings when Mairi becomes snowed in with her ex, Jed Murray. They were madly in love once; will the magic of the season see them falling in love again????
I enjoy Donna Ashcroft's writing, her well thought out plots, her choice of beautiful settings, and her likeable characters. With romance books, it is all about the journey for me. I enjoyed the journey that both Mairi and Jed went on in Christmas at the Scottish Lodge. There were many times I wanted to pull each aside and say "communicate, communicate, communicate!!!"
Snow is not the only things swirling through the air, secrets are swirling through the air as well. Not to be left out, there is tension and longing swirling through the air as well. I rooted for both characters as they as they both traveled along on their individual and joined journeys. I enjoyed their banter, their determination, and their knee jerk reactions to emotional moments.
Charming, wonderfully written, well thought out, and festive!
3.5 stars
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sadly, I did not gel with this book. Jed and Mairi elope but don't tell anyone they got married. Then Jed is in a horrible skiing accident and refuses to let her see him. They play the blame game. Eleven months later, Mairi returns to get divorce papers signed. But Jed refuses to sign them. And the why makes no sense at all.
These two have no chemistry unless they're thinking about spicy scenes. They have nothing in common. No witty banter or special skills that bring them close together. The story moves from moment to moment with no momentum. I found myself skimming because I wasn't invested.
The best part of this book is the scenery. The setting is a family-owned ski lodge in Scotland during Christmas. My favorite characters are Effie, Jed's aunt who runs the place, and Douglas, a kindly widower who is easily distracted but means well. The romance I'd like to read stars Effie and Douglas, not Jed and Mairi.
There are animal sidekicks in this that are also adorable, though much confusion is caused with a puppy named Midnight and a cat named Shadow. Overall, this book was not for me, but anyone looking for a light romance who just wants to escape for the holiday might want to give it a go.
This exceptional witty and heart-warming festive story has tons of sparkle, cheer, charm and romance. Passion and longings circle this couple like an enchanted wreath as they continue to carry secrets yet great desire for each other amid the chaos and challenges. The importance of support from family and friends is seen clearly in the relationships that infiltrate the story’s bones. And, of course, as always in Donna’s books, we have some lovely pets to ponder and praise for their part in assisting or comforting characters.
Without doubt, Donna Ashcroft’s novels always give me a huge emotional lift as they shine a bright light on the important things of life: family, friends, animals, love and the natural environment. They remind me of the joys of second chances and draw me in to inspiring landscapes. All the story elements work together effortlessly to create a whole glittering canvas of colour and delight. When one character’s life gets out of balance, we know Donna has a plan to set their world right by the end of the tale. Restored harmony and a happy resolution always makes my heart sing! So yes, I love reading Donna’s books, especially after dealing with the stress of the day. I just want to escape into her romance settings and become friends with her characters.

I adored Christmas at the Scottish Lodge. The descriptions, smells and textures of winter and Christmas are vivid and divine. Characters Mairi and Jed are perfectly matched—even though they come from very different backgrounds. Both are prone to major emotional issues but their attraction to each other is off the charts! And although they are frustrating at times, and flawed as we all are, their timeless love, potent desire and heroic care for each other make them endearing. We can forgive them for their mistakes and not judge their actions too harshly, even though at times we want to give them a stern talking to! But Mairi's literary agent, Kenna, is good for helping with that! Of course, all the interruptions and communication problems turn up the tension. And as in all good story-telling, the twisty plot development fuels excellent character growth and creates lots of friction and sparks!
There are some interesting emotional issues in this novel such as Jed striving for approval from his father: a man that clearly does not deserve his son’s dedication. And it is tragic to see Jed take responsibility for his father’s bad actions and habits. I was happy as time progresses that Jed is freed from this mantel of fear and dilemma of poor self-worth. It makes you realise how pointless it is to strive for such perfection and that we are not responsible for other people’s actions.
Mairi, (the Scottish Gaelic version of the name Mary - 'star of the sea' and sometimes associated with the mother of Jesus and celebrations at Christmas) is a romance author, has her own problems with trust after having her heart broken more than once. We understand why she tries to put a protective web around her bruised heart. But I love the fact she worships Jed, warts and all, and is not concerned about his position or whether he wins the next skiing competition. (He, on the other hand, is very tough on himself.) There are lots of twists and turns of Mairi almost getting what she wants (Jed ). We watch with keen eyes at the energetic dance between them that keeps us wondering and waiting for that moment of relief!
This Happily Ever After romance novel is good for the heart and medicine for the soul. The Christmas festivities stirred up lots of good memories for me of why I loved the special wintry white holiday season in the north. (I now live in the Southern Hemisphere where Christmas is in sweltering heat and green as grass!). Christmas at the Scottish Lodge by Donna Ashcroft has a relatable, irresistible hero and sympathetic heroine who are bursting with enchanting chemistry. I enjoyed being on the journey with them and immersed in the winter wonderland of their gorgeous setting. This is a Christmas novel that should be in Santa’s gift bag for delivery across the world! Big Cheers and all the stars to Donna for another red hot captivating Christmas story! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Mairi, loved the time she spent in the Scottish Highlands as a child so she decided to visit her Aunt Effie’s lodge for Christmas. However, a snowstorm trapped her there. Initially, she was fine with the situation until she realized she was snowed in with her ex, Jed Murray.
Mairi and Jed had a lot of work to do to prepare the lodge for the Christmas arrivals. She focused on her tasks, but she couldn’t help but feel caught up in the moment with Jed. From baking Christmas cookies to hanging up the holly, she was enjoying the time with Jed. Despite her intentions to suppress her feelings, her heart had other plans.
“Christmas at the Scottish Lodge,” a delightful festive rom-com by Donna Ashcroft, is a joy to read. The banter between Mairi and Jed was so hilarious that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. I really enjoyed the characters and would have loved to have spent Christmas at the Lodge.
This story perfectly sets the stage for the Christmas season. The detailed descriptions of the Scottish Highlands and the magic of the season were truly captivating. The snowstorm outside was so vivid that it felt like a movie playing in my mind. I could almost feel the warmth from the crackling of the fireplace and see the twinkling lights. This would make an excellent Christmas movie. I loved every aspect of this story and highly recommend it.
Mairi Fraser is a successful author who has writer’s block, so she heads off to Holly Berry Lodge in the Scottish Highlands to clear her head, as well as give her husband, skier Jed Murray divorce papers!
Having not seen her husband for eleven months, Mairi needs to get her life back on track and move on. As they didn’t get the chance to tell anyone that they got married just over eleven months ago (not even Mairi’s brother & Jed’s best friend, Quinn knows) she thinks that this should be easy.
As with all good romance stories, Mairi’s plans fall apart as soon as she sees Jed again. With Jed being as stubborn as ever, can Mairi turn things around?
This is an enjoyable and at times, funny romance story. I loved the characters, they all brought something charming to the tale. I especially loved Aunt Effie and Douglas, the handyman. I found myself chuckling and smiling throughout this book, especially at Douglas’s capers.
I couldn’t not fall in love with Bear and Midnight, both stray dogs that Aunt Effie had taken in and given a home too.
A charming story that works well as the cold and dark nights are drawing in, it’s lovely to snuggle down in front of the open fire with a good romance.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
What to expect: 😏 Brother's Best Friend 🎄 Christmas Romance 🤫 Secret Marriage ♥️ Second Chance at Love
Overall this was a fun read and was perfect for the holidays. I wish we got to read about Jed and Mairi’s time in Vegas - their wedding night and after rather than getting small flashbacks. I also wish that we got to learn more about the before with Jed and Mairi, what led them to get married and why keep it a secret from everyone? We learned about their love but not how it all started. This book seemed like it wanted to be a sports romance with Jed and his skiing but it was really lacking that sports aspect for me. It felt like his skiing was a second thought and it wasn't important yet his accident that paused his skiing career is the same reason he essentially ghosted Mairi for so long and why he refused to tell anyone they were together until he was able to win a competition again.
Christmas at the Scottish Lodge Donna Ashcroft 5/5 stars
I enjoyed this second chance at romance book! Mairi heads to Holly Berry Lodge in Scotland to get divorce papers signed even though she is still in love with her husband, Jed. Jed was recently injured in a skiing accident that has changed the trajectory of his career and has left him feeling like he has let down the people that mean the most to him.
I am not a huge fan of the miscommunication trope but overall I really liked this book. It was easy to read and I felt like I was watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. I am excited to read more books by this author. I recommend this book if you are looking for a quick, light Christmas read!
Thank you Donna Ashcroft, Bookouture and Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is a cosy, snowed-in second-chance romance set at Holly Berry Lodge in the Scottish Highlands. Mairi returns to her Aunt Effie’s ski lodge for the holidays and finds herself stuck with the one that got away, Jed Murray. Decorating trees, baking gingerbread, and prepping the lodge bring back old feelings—and old questions.
What worked for me: the lodge atmosphere is warm and comforting, perfect for a curl-up-with-cocoa read. The holiday details are charming, Aunt Effie is a bright spot, and the forced-proximity setup delivers easy Hallmark vibes. It’s a quick, feel-good escape
ARC Review // Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
This was a cute and fun read for Christmas.
Christmas at the Scottish lodge is a cozy, funny and heartwarming Christmas story set in a beautiful Scottish setting. The atmosphere felt festive and comforting, making it perfect for the holiday season.
The writing is easy to follow, and the story focuses on warmth, relationships, ski competition and Christmas spirit. I really enjoyed the overall cozy feeling of the book.
There’s something special about a Christmas romance novel set in the Scottish highlands, especially when it features a lovely couple. Second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes, and this one is lovely and heartfelt.
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
2.5
I really, really wanted to like this book. The cover is beautiful and the moment I saw it was set in Scotland, I was sold. Cozy lodge? Snow? Dogs? Hot drinks? Say no more.
Unfortunately, the romance just didn’t work for me. The main characters had zero chemistry - or at least I didn’t feel it. If we’d had some flashbacks, secret glances, or pining, maybe I could’ve bought into the whole "it’s always been you" thing. But Jed not being able to say how he feels or let Mairi go? And then asking her to just… wait around for him? No thanks. The ending was so rushed too - one minute Mairi’s hurt, the next she’s like "yep, all forgiven, forever together now!" Sure, Jan.
That said, I loved the setting - the Scottish lodge, the snow, the animals, the cozy lights. I could practically smell the pine and hot cocoa (even if “hot drinks” was mentioned about fifty times 😂). I was honestly more invested in the side stories, especially Quinn and… a certain someone 👀. And Douglas! I was rolling my eyes and smiling every time he popped up wanting to "show someone something." I was waiting for the next mini disaster every time he appeared.
Overall, it’s cute and quick read, but the main romance just didn’t land for me. Still, if you’re in the mood for some cozy Scottish winter vibes - and a few good laughs courtesy of Douglas - this might scratch that itch.
Quotes:
"- But... sometimes you need to see beyond your own world. Sometimes it's important to understand how your actions affect everyone else."
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
To sum it up, this book felt like a warm hug on a cold night or a Hallmark-style film on a cozy Sunday afternoon. It’s full of second chances, snowy Scottish charm, and that irresistible touch of holiday magic. I loved following Jed and Mairi as they found their way back to each other amid heartache, hope, and a dash of family chaos. Emotional yet comforting, it’s a sweet, festive Christmas read that I truly enjoyed.
I am a fan of Donna Ashcroft's books. Not this one. Both main characters were so annoying. They were both wholly invested in their own individual pity parties. And so self-centered. Effie was a great secondary character, as was Scott. The others were cardboard cutouts. Really disappointed in this one.
This was a very cute read, definitely a steamier Hallmark-esque type that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. Be warned, though, this isn't especially Christmas-y (there are decorations to put up, and snow), nor does it scream "Scotland" (some "nae"s, "bairns," "lassies" and "laddies," but could have been any lodge anywhere in the world otherwise...).
Besides our two mains, Jed and Mairi, there is an eclectic bunch of supporting characters at the lodge -- Jed's aunt, various staff, a handful of guests, and some animal companions. It's all fairly light and fluffy, and there are a few laughs.
There is chemistry between Jed and Mairi, and you do root for them to figure things out. I have to say, though, that it felt like they were a couple of teenagers with all of the "I can't tell if my husband actually wants me" and the "I have to be a professional skier to be worthy, so we can't be together."
I had a harder time with the pacing of this, and with how often we are told things, rather than shown. There is an abundance of repetition that had me literally saying "Yes, we know!" by the 5th time. There is A LOT packed into this, and I think it would benefit from some streamlining. If it's meant to be the light & fluffy it feels like it wants to be, the weird dad drama, the fact that Mairi had been married when she was young(er), and the "Jed has never felt worthy of ANYONE because this sweet, kind aunt raised him, but his dad is an ass and he never knew his mom." All of these things were meant to be depth, but just felt thrown in and unexplored.
I also would have loved a lot more backstory of how Jed and Mairi fell for one another, why they got married, and why it is such a big deal to hide their marriage. Also, why Jed's arse of a father told Mairi to just go away, and she listened for 11 months without a word from Jed. Odd use of the miscommunication trope there, I think...
Fairly predictable, but an entertaining, quick read! I liked it enough to finish, but I think a bit of spit & polish could really make it shine!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy. This in no way influenced my review. My opinion is 100% my own.
Mairi is an author and supposed to finish one of her books. The only problem is she can´t finish the story. Might be that the biggest heartbreak and secret she kept the last 11 months is the reason for it. She has enough and decides now is the perfect time to hand over divorce papers to her husband as she hasn´t seen him after his ski accident which caused his professional carrier to end and also avoided that they tell everybody that they secretly got married. Mairi assumed Jed would happily sign and she could go back to Edinburgh. The only problem is her husband is not willing to sign them even so he is still not talking to her. When his aunt who is running Holly Berry Lodge in the Scottish Highlands gets sick, Mairi help out as also to her she feels like family after spending so much time with her brother with Effie, after their parents passed away. So when she starts decorating the lodge as we have December, takes care of the guests and Effie will she also get closer to her secret husband or can she find her closure?
Well it is a typical Christmas novel but unfortunately it could not really convince me. Still I give it 3 stars as there are funny characters in it, has a nice setting and flair but the love story could not convince me.
Jed had a very bad accident and his body is ready to compete in races but his mind is not ready for it. The reason why he stayed away from his wife for the last 11 months I can´t really understand and I don´t like it. Mairi married secretly her crush who is also her brother´s best friend. I can understand that she finally wants a divorce as she sees no future with him. The two together could not really convince me. For me there was no real chemistry and as they know each other since so many years should she not understand him better? The spicy scenes between them was Ok but beside that I didn´t feel them as a couple.
At some point the story was dragging for me and I was not into it any longer.
Who wants to read a typical Christmas story where you know how it ends with a nice setting and funny side characters should check this out.

Perfect for fans of Nicola May, Trisha Ashley and Debbie Macomber—and best accompanied by a mulled wine! 💜 Review - This was such a cute and cosy festive read. It's the perfect book to curl up with over the festive season. The story was easy to follow and heartwarming. I loved the author's writing style and there was a great cast of characters. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author. 💝 Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
A light, hallmark-y, Christmas romance if you are looking for a super easy and predictable read. And I truly don’t mean that in a bad way- sometimes in life or busy seasons we really just need an easy read where we can see what’s coming instead of being thrown for a loop. That’s what Christmas at the Scottish Lodge delivers.
Taking place at a picturesque family-owned ski lodge at Christmas time, Mairi arrives to serve her husband divorce papers and hopefully finish her current book. As it goes with romances, Mairi instantly wonders if this is what she really wants or if her and Jed can work through the issues that have plagued their short marriage. With lovable side characters and very lovable sidekicks we tag along side as Jed and Mairi find their way back to each other.
My biggest hang up with the story was the fluidity. Frequently it just felt like we were moving from moment to moment without really moving forward.
I also thought the romance was just ok. It was cute enough to enjoy and finish, but there wasn’t a lot of chemistry or banter and the tension was only there when they wanted to be physical. I would have loved to see some backstory flashbacks of how they fell in love over the years.
Jed and Mairi navigate truth, trust, reliable family and friends to lean into during difficulties, forgiveness and self-worth, but it’s light and fluffy. Anything that should have had depth was mentioned at a surface level and moved on from rather than really being explored. So if you are looking for a story with strong emotional depth then this might miss the mark for you.
Overall if you are looking for a cute, quick and light Christmas romance then this is a perfect fit.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy for consideration and review.
A second chance romance set at a ski lodge in Scotland. Mairi returns to the Holly Berry Lodge, the source of comforting memories from the past, to confront a challenging relationship with Jed.
I enjoyed the quirky characters and events in the book. There are plenty of side stories that keep the book moving along, in addition to Mairi and Jed’s main exchanges. Jed and Mairi each have complicated, emotional motivations behind their decisions. That being said, I felt at times that the characters made decisions too quickly, or strayed from their reasoning and just changed their minds/ motivation to fit the scene, In that same fashion, I felt that the HEA scene was rushed- Mairi had finally stood up for herself, but then was right back to embracing with Jed.
I did not like how the relationship between Jed and Boyd was played out, After all the description of Boyd being a dead beat dad, Jed still was set on “making things right” for him. I thought Quinn had finally made Jed see the light, but then Jed’s final interactions with Boyd fell back into the same original pattern, This was not a healthy relationship at all.
Besides Jed and Mairi’s story, I loved all the pets in the book! Having the cats and dogs of the lodge play fun roles in the story was cute. I enjoyed how important they were to the characters.
Overall, it was a nice. Holiday story of romantic redemption!
Mairi has gone back to Holly Berry Lodge to get a divorce from her husband, who has shut her out since he had a skiing accident. Of course things don’t go to plan and it makes them both examine their feelings for each other. Is there a future ahead for them or are they better to cut their losses?
It is always good to read Donna’s Christmas themed books set in Scotland and this was no different. Donna tells great romance stories and Christmas always adds another dimension to them, almost as if Christmas itself is a character. I enjoyed spending time with the central characters in this book, but there were definitely times I wanted to bang their heads together. There are also a number of great secondary characters in this book which only adds to the story. As you would expect there are also many humorous and romantic moments in this.
Overall l really enjoyed this book and the romance element within it, and would recommend it. However I have to say I don’t think it had quite same feels of her previous Christmas books. I will though be keeping my eyes out for the next book by Donna. If you haven’t tried any of her books I would definitely encourage you to.
Thankful to be on the BlogSpot for Donna’s latest release. Its such a beautifully written book. Its told from the perspectives of Mairi and and Jed. Married and separated. The two hadn’t spoken in Months. Feeling trapped Mairi decides to end the marriage. After all, no one knows they married, it was over before it started.
Mairi's parent passed away some years ago, leaving her with her brother Quinn, who happens to be Jed's best friend.
In-between no talking they both have met people but is all what it seems.
Why is Jed being awkward?
Successful author Mairi is under pressure to meet a long overdue deadline.
Jed is trying to dig his dad out of a deep hole.
When Mairi turns up at Holly Berry Cottage wanting what she wants, but does she? Is Jed willing to lose what infused his soul with life?
Add into the mix Effi Jed’s aunt, young Scott, a host of four legged cuties and a cranky Greer and you have yourself a perfect Christmas story and a mix of dynamics and relationships.
I enjoyed it so much, I preordered the audible. I can’t wait to have this story read to me.
Entertaining, Snowy, drama filled with sprinkles of love and hope. 5 stars all the way.
I thought the premise of this one started out incredibly interesting. Our two main leads, Jen and Mairi are already married at the start of the novel - in a quick Las Vegas elopement 11 months before the start of the novel.
The couple hadn’t actually seen each other in months, after Jeb’s accident as a part of his professional skiing career, and now are stuck together at a skiing lodge in the Caelodian mountains in Scotland.
I did really enjoy this overall, I found the initial tension of a couple already married and trying to sort out their issues interesting compared to a lot of romance I’ve read recently. The first half really worked for me - whilst they were exploring this tension between them, the better part of this. At a certain point around act 3 they get infected with what must be the act like an idiot virus, where it felt a bit like all the work in the first half is negated a lot. As their family members get more and more involved the scenes I was hoping to see didn’t really all flesh out.
Overall though, I did enjoy it - I just felt like the ending wasn’t as satisfying as I would hope.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC copy!
My first Donna Ashcroft book and it definitely won't be my last. I enjoyed the writing more than I enjoyed the story, which was predictably sweet with the usual tropes of miscommunication, falling for brother's best friend, and rediscovering love in a picturesque, Christmassy setting after things take a bad turn. Of course, there were a few racy bits as well. However, I couldn't really see why Mairi Fraser loves Jed Murray so much when he seems intent on avoiding any kind of open or healthy communication. The side characters were a lot more fun, interesting, and lovable: Scott, Adam, Effie, Douglas, and Kenna (now there's a girl with spunk!). The author does touch on heavier themes without delving on them too much, so that the mood is predominantly lighthearted. Watching Mairi and Jed rising above their issues and learning to respect themselves enough was actually more satisfying than seeing them come together. Overall, definitely recommend if you are looking for a cozy Hallmark movie-ish kind of romance. It's a quick read too. I finished the book in one sitting. I thank Netgalley and the publishers for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review.
A successful romance writer and a professional skier get married behind her brother’s back, who is also the groom’s best friend.
But after the new husband’s accident on the slopes, he distances from her. Eleven months pass and, fed up with waiting, she travels to his Scottish family lodge to get him to sign the divorce papers. They are separated after all, so what could go wrong? Oh, right—feelings.
I can’t say I loved it, but I did like it. The idea has great potential, and there’s a building emotional and sexual tension between the characters that hooks you.
If you like back-and-forth romance set in snowy scenery, this one is for you!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC called Christmas at the Scottish Lodge in exchange for my personal opinion.
What a heartwarming festive read this proved to be With a second chance romance, snow and secret mystery. Mairi and Jed married in secret years gone by But he had an accident then and told her to fly....
Now Mairi is returning to her Aunt's snow lodge Hoping long encounters with Jed to dodge. She just needs his signature so they can divorce But maybe their set on a different course...
With snow falling and her Aunt feeling ill, too, Mairi will stay to help with what's to do. From decorating the lodge, to helping out She just wishes Jed wasn't always about....
A story where secrets from the past And lies from others are revealed at last. Maybe there's still hope for their love to survive If only they can get out of the dramas alive!!
A story where communication is the key To discovering the truth, solving the mystery. Where love will hopefully give them a chance And rekindle their heartwarming romance.
For my copy of this brilliant book I say a huge thank you As I share with you this, my honest review.
3.5⭐️ Mairi is suffering from a bad case of writers block and decides to go to her favorite place, Holly Berry Lodge in the Scottish mountains, to finish her novel and to also serve her secret husband with divorce papers. Once there, Jed refuses to sign the divorce papers, but won't give Mairi a reason why. Jed, once a famous skiier, is going to compete in his first skiing competition after a horrific accident, but he first has to overcome his fear of history repeating itself.
This book gives us more than a second chance romance trope. There are some wonderful secondary characters, and two not so wonderful, that add a lot to the storyline. Douglas is totally quirky and adorable, as well as Effie, and they quickly became favorites of mine.
The descriptions of the mountains, the snow scenes, and the blizzard conditions make you feel like you're right there. Christmas with lots of snow, sign me up please! Overall, I enjoyed this cozy enjoyable book.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
This story was cute and went by quickly. The cast is full of characters you love, with a setting for the holidays that you just want to jump right into. The bed and breakfast sounded dreamy and I was fond of those that ran it.
I did not like that Jed treated Mari how he did because of his DEADBEAT dad's gambling debt. Like WTF Jed?! You don't abandon someone you love for someone else's issues. His dad was toxic and Jed should have just told him to get to steppin.
Other than that though, I really enjoyed listening to this story and I was hoping these two would find their way back to each other. I could feel Mari's pain and longing. I could feel Jed's too but at the same time I wanted to shake him. 😂
I mean, who wouldn't love a story with rescued animals, a handyman with a good heart but accident prone, a sexy skier on the mend, family ran lodge in Scotland, authors writing romance books, and more.
This book was absolutely beautiful. Honestly, I could see the whole thing playing out like the perfect Hallmark movie. The descriptions were so vivid I swear I could smell the pine trees and feel the crunch of snow under my boots. The characters were delightful (well, maybe not Greer, but that just kept things interesting!).
I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you’re looking for a story that will wrap you up in cozy winter vibes and get you ready for the holidays, this is the one. Grab a blanket, make some hot cocoa, and dive in. You’re going to love it.
Thank you to the publisher for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion
3.75 ⭐️’s - (Slightly spoiler-ish) This is a cozy, second chance, brother’s best friend, holiday romance, set in…well, Scotland 😂 I really enjoyed this & would recommend it for anyone looking for a sweet holiday romance with some found family vibes and lots of yearning. I do think some people may be a bit frustrated with the MMC…and things wrapped up a bit too quickly and neatly for me at the end. I wanted a bit more groveling from the MMC and resistance from our FMC. So, some of my frustrations with the characters did affect my star rating. But overall, I liked this book & think if cozy holiday contemporaries are your cup of tea, chances are you will like it as well.

Just what you’d expect from a warm holiday read! 🎄
Story about marriage. Can it be saved or was it destined to fail from the start? It’s emotional, funny and full of heart ♥️. I loved how it made me feel everything: hate, joy, laughter and even moments of lost hope. When a book stirs that many emotions, you know it’s a good one!
I know Greer was a side character, but I loved how much unpredictability she brought to this story.
Overall it’s a touching read about resilience, hope and family. Exactly what I want to curl up with during the dark winter months. ❄️⛄️
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this advance readers copy.
I liked the premise of the book and the storytelling, but found it hard to keep interested in the story. The chemistry between Mairi and Jed was either hot or cold. The times they longed for each other got a bit spicy for me. My favorite characters were Jed’s Aunt Effie with her spunky and motherly personality and her counterpart, Doug, who was always distracted by making things better around the Lodge, but was full of wisdom and compassion. Doug was the comic relief needed to balance the seriousness of the story. I was relieved that everything ended happily in the end!
