Pursuing Penny

A stand-alone billionaire romance in the same world as the Witch Twins duet

Penny

Raised in the Humans First enclave, I’d spent my childhood hiding my wolf, my power. After my mother died, I thought I’d be able to find out who I really was. She had run from my Alpha father when I was a baby, taking me with her. Changed my name; hidden my existence. All she would ever say was that he hadn’t wanted me and I would be in danger if he found me.
But when I was betrayed by Jared, my former best friend, I still had to hide my true nature. When you owe money to the Albanian mob, you don’t let them see your secrets.
Now, ten years later, I was almost free. Soon, I wouldn’t need to work two jobs and I could move to a safer part of town. I wouldn’t need to starve myself or my wolf just to meet the repayments I owed to Armend Seferi. I just had to keep my head down and hide my Shifter abilities for a little longer.
My mantra was Don’t draw attention. Don’t notice the delicious scent of the Alpha whose offices I cleaned. Don’t listen to my wolf when she says he’s my mate.
Like all Alpha Shifters, Erik Andersen was dangerous. Violent. It didn’t matter if he was brutally attractive. If his height made me feel dainty. Or if his scent made my head spin.
I had to stay away from Erik Andersen and pay off Armend Seferi. Simple.
But, of course, my life couldn’t be that easy.

Erik
My mate smelled like lemon and sugar. One whiff of her delicious scent and both my bear and I knew she was ours.
But when I tracked her down, she ran from me like she thought I would hurt her. At six foot eight I towered over her and she cowered like she believed the lies spread by Humans First.
I didn’t blame her. Her eyes looked human. She moved like a human—even if that unique flame-coloured hair suggested otherwise. Humans didn’t always understand Shifter customs.
She was my mate, so I would court her gently until she knew the truth. That she was mine. That we were meant to be. If she ran, I would follow. If she wanted to unravel the mystery of her true identity, I would help.
And if a mob boss thought he would steal her from me, he would learn how an Alpha fought for his mate.
My bear loved to chase. And pursuing Penny just became my life’s goal.

I received this book as an ARC, my opinion is my own.

This is another great book by S.J. Distel, following two new characters in her shifter romance world.

It has all the positives of her last books, fast pacing, wonderful characters, and excellent writing, but adds even more depth to her world, especially around shifters and their culture.

I loved Penny, her personality, independance and strength of character are engrossing to read about. Her backstory adds to her complexity, and really makes you want to delve deeper to find out more and more about her. She's one of the absolute highlights of this book for me, and out of all the female protagonists in the series so far, she's shaping up to be my favourite (right next to Electra)!

Erik's strong protective nature also makes him fun to read about, his relationship with his polar bear shifter side leads to some great moments in the book. I found his and Penny's relationship to be both exhilarating and incredibly sweet, I loved to see the way their personalities played off each other. I found Erik's devotion so endearing, and watching Penny slowly allow herself to fall for him after their instant connection made the book a wonderful experience.

Pursuing Penny is a very much worthy addition to S.J. Distel's shifter romance world, a wonderful, sexy, emotional read, and highly recommended! I'm excited and hopeful to see what this author writes in the future!

I really enjoyed the book....was it full of "adult moments"??? why yes, yes it was. Did it have a good storyline??? yes, again, it did!! The thing I came away with the most was that in the end, I enjoyed reading a new book from a new author and came away hoping to read another one. The couple was great, I enjoyed reading them coming together, but the one thing I didn't like was once I finished, I felt like there were some pieces of information that would have been fantastic to enhance the story that much more. I am a detail girl and when details are withheld and I can't really "see" what is going on in the story, IDK how to even explain this, but the feeling is a little empty. So for me, I would have enjoyed just a little more detail that would have made the story as I said, just a little bit more......ending. I love a good cliffhanger, but I also LOVE a good ending that feels like there was a good final conclusion. In conclusion, read the book, it was a good fantasy shifter book, could it have been better, possibly, but it was definitely, definitely worth the read. It's not a super long book, but hey, like me, you very well might enjoy it more than you think at first!

Absolutely loved this book! I’m a sucker for protective, possessive hero’s and Erik was truly a hero to Penny. My heart broke for Penny. She was in a tough situation, working hard to make ends meets, no support, surrounded by danger but determined and proud. Erik had his work cut out for him to overcome her insecurities and show her how warm and loving a true mate could be. Absolutely loved watching their relationship develop. Both these characters were admirable and likeable. I will definitely read more by this author!
