A desperate mother needs cash to keep her home out of repossession.
As the owner of the only pawn shop in this mid-size town in the middle of America, I've seen a lot of shit. Things that really make you go, huh? My business is built on the backs of desperate people. I make my money buying good stuff cheap and then selling it back at a profit. I've heard every sob story there is - food for my kids, my ‘medicine’ (which means illegal drugs), I got this as a gift; you name it and that story has been told in my shop. No matter what your excuse is, I’m going to turn a profit. It may not always be a profit in dollars but I’ll be gaining something above what I put in.
I've always been interested in sociology and I guess and what better place is there to study it than in my store? This is not some theoretical discussion in a class room this is life. My interest is in what people will do for money. The age old question of what would you do if someone offered you a million dollars for it?
