The second part of GONE, a three-part series from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Deborah Bladon.
Lilly Randall had finally landed the job of her dreams. She couldn't have imagined that when she started working for Clive Parker at Corteck, that she'd end up in his bed.
Just as she was moving towards a bright future, the man she was falling hard for made a choice that would change their connection forever.
Desperate to get her life back on track, Lilly sets out on a new path towards fulfillment. Convinced that she can build a life without Clive, she makes decisions that will have far reaching consequences.
He wants her to understand his motivations. She wants him to accept their reality.
When things finally make sense to them both, the past appears and everything they've worked so hard to attain is stolen away in an instant.
Note: This ends in a cliffhanger. Part Three will be released very soon.
Deborah Bladon has never read a romance hero she didn't like. Her love for romance novels began when she was old enough to board the bus, library card in hand to check out the newest Harlequin paperbacks. She's a Canadian by heart, and by passport, but you can often spot her in New York City sipping a latte and looking for inspiration for her next story. Manhattan is definitely her second home.
She cherishes her family and believes that each day is a gift for writing, for reading, and for loving.
Not gonna get into a full-blown rant review for this one:
# No chemistry between the characters whatsoever.
# Unrealistic "romance" build-up.
# Sorry to say, boring plotline.
# Unnecessarily long inner monologues.
I love Deborah Bladon but I'm starting to get tired of being disappointed with her books.
P.S:
To all her hardcore fans out there...
Please don't take offense at my honest reviews about her books. Just trying to see an improvement in her work. I don't think it's helpful to absentmindedly give 5 stars to her every single book and tell her that she "rocks", when her work could be WAY BETTER. I'm the real helpful reader in this setting, not you fanatics.
If I get one more angry private message from one of Mrs. Bladon's fans, I'm gonna start to answer those messages in a rather unmannerly way. It's a very hard job to get a reaction out of me, but I've had enough.
This review may contain spoilers for book one, if you haven't read it, go do so now. You'll enjoy it.
Lily let Clive know exactly how wrong he was about her and spilled her big secret at the end of book one. To say he was shocked is an understatement. Now Clive looks like an ass and Lily needs a new job.
This time around we meet Ben, the only friend Lily really has and the guy that talks her off the ledge when it's needed. Clive isn't going to go away quietly and I liked that Lily kept him under her thumb as well as she did. The guy needs knocked down a few pegs anyway as he thinks he can control everything in her life.
Landing on her feet, Lily decides it's time to move forward with her life and without the interference of Clive Parker, however she misses him dearly and doesn't want to. Clive is pulling out all of the stops to get Lily to see his side of things and that he didn't do what he did to hurt her. She's crumbling fast, which isn't good, but she wants to finally be happy.
Of course things can't be all honkey dory and Deborah Bladon rips the rug out from under us again. This cliffy is a doozy and actually made me gasp as I read it. Man, Lily can't catch a break and I am on pins and needles to see how Clive is going to explain this one. On to the third book!
The only thing going for this book was Lily was such a bada$$.
Clive was a complete insecure douche that at times I want to throw my iPad just to make it stop. But what annoyed me the most was the transitions between chapters. One minute we would be on the way to dinner and the bam chapter 12, we are now in the living room of the condo drinking tea. It just didn't feel very well written.
And what really turned my stomach was the cheesy written sex scenes. I felt like I was watching an underfunded porn movie and all I could do was laugh.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Don't waste your money, there's no story here. The writing is juvenile and rushed. If you want to read sex scenes just read the first book over again. BTW, I use the term book loosely...too short really to be a book and the story gets rehashed in the next issues to the extent that 50% of the previous book is in the new one. Save your money.
Hot , hot and hotter. Okay, short but oh so sweet!
I can't believe that 'rat' Clive would sabotage Lilly's presentation like that; the man is an ass*ole!!
Why oh why, did she ever get back together with him? She is too damn smart for him, that's what. God Lilly, don't let the girls down here - get rid of him stat!!
Wow, this 1 had a real cliffhanger. The scene at the app preview was horrible. Of course, the author would add a twist to the story about something that directly impacts a detail Lily and Parker have been discussing since the very beginning. The addition of mystery to find out who set her up adds another level to the saga.
The meat of the story... we go from exhilarating to debilitating! She has a new job, she’s coming to terms with trusting someone, then being betrayed by that same person. As I move on to Part 3, I am anxious to see everything resolved!
Title: Gone Part Two Author: Deborah Bladon Series or Standalone: 3 Part Novella Series (Gone #2) Rating: 5 Stars *****
Review:
Gone Part Two is the second in a three part New Adult Contemporary Romance series told from the point of view of the main character Lilly, picking up where the first book ended, and following her growing relationship with businessman Clive Parker.
I said in my previous review that I enjoyed how the first book in this series started, an original idea and one I found humorous, pulling me into the world these two characters find themselves in. Well, this story takes the momentum from the first one and continues it, but enhances it even more. If I wasn’t entirely invested before, I am now.
What I think I enjoyed most about this book was how Lilly came across. I knew from the previous book, at least a little, that she was a tough woman. That she had been through something horrific and lived to tell the tale, a level of strength present in her that was admirable, but in this, you get to see it even more so. She was not a doormat for Mr. Parker. She really made him work for her forgiveness and attention. This is how I wanted her to be and the author and Lilly herself delivered in spades. It was refreshing.
I also liked the view into the characters pasts that we were privy to. There was a lot of information given here but done so in a way that didn’t feel as though it was told. I felt the agony and the pain of what both Clive and Lilly went through before meeting each other which connected me even more to them and their growing story.
Lilly was not the only character that came across well here. I saw shades of Clive Parker that were not quite as evident in the first book. As time moves on here with these two, they are both growing and changing and when I read, I’m a really big fan of that. Clive came across less like the alpha businessman in this and softer in a lot of instances. More understanding. When he said things to Lilly in an effort to get her to forgive him, understand why he did the shitty thing he did to her, I believed in it.
The speed at which their relationship is moving works for me. It doesn’t feel forced or quick and because of the way I feel about these characters both individually and together, I really hope that with the final installment, they get their much deserved happy ending, whether that’s together or apart. I genuinely love these characters and want continued healing and growth for them. (But I really do want them together because they’re infinitely better together).
The steamy scenes were equal parts steamy and passionate and for this couple worked very well. It was also a lot like the first book in that it happened in a way that only enhanced and furthered the story and in no way felt like filler.
The ending, is a major cliffhanger. Like edge of your seat, holy crap I need the next book type of one, but absolutely brilliant because I didn’t see it coming. Not at all. Of all the ways I wondered about how this one would end and lead into the final book, the way it did was not one of them. Kudos to the author for that. I already wanted the third book, but now it’s not just a want but a need.
This is another great 5* read for me. Loved it. Bring on book three stat!
After flying through the first book in this series, I jumped right into this one. That cliffhanger really got me and I had to know what would happen next in the Clive and Lilly Saga.
Gone, part 2 picks up right where the first one left off; with Lilly walking away from her dream job and the man that had worked himself into her heart. Clive knows that he messed up and is willing to do whatever it takes to get Lilly back. She sparked something within him that he can't explain. I love how relentless he was in his pursuit. His vulnerability in this book really endeared him to me and I found myself liking him more and more. When he and Lilly bared the hurt of their tragedies my heart broke for them both.
Just when things are looking on the up them, a sneak attack threatens to sabotage all the progress they've made. Gah! This cliffhanger was better than the last, it puts into question all the progress they've made. I can't wait for what I'm sure is going to be a thrilling conclusion.
I loved Lilly’s spunk in walking away from Clive after her loss of privacy while the bombshell about her past adds a whole new dimension to this story. I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of Clive because of his domineering personality which is exacerbated by the age gap between him and Lilly. I have noticed that all of the author’s female protagonists are in their early 20’s and her male protagonists are always older successful men who are dominant in the relationship and I have big issues with that dynamic. I will admit that I liked the maturation of Lilly’s character growth and Clive’s growing emotional connection with her toward the end of this book which should bode well for the rest of their story.
Lilly Randall thought she had a future at Corteck. A future with Clive Parker. A future that he destroyed in an instant when he accused her of wanting to make a quick dollar at his expense. He couldn't be more wrong. Her App was about her family, not his. Walking away from Clive meant walking away from her dream job and from her new home. Relying on Ben and Kayla, Lilly sets out to make her own way in the tech world without Clive Parker. But Clive isn't ready to let her go. Doesn't matter if she is no longer working for him, she is his and that is final. At least until, she is sabotaged by her past and the fear that Clive used her all along. The second installment of the Gone series is thrilling, sexy and devastating. As more is shared about Lilly and her connection with Clive, competition for their success and their hearts steals the show and leaves readers wanting more.
This could have been a 4=star but the dragging on of Lilly's pushing Clive away because of trust issues. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't trust anyone who goes through my personal laptop without asking and checks my browser history too. We are not married, or living together. What gives him the right? Ok, now on with the show. They are both dealing with grieving a loved one or ones. Clive thought see was stealing his personal grief to sell her app not knowing she has her own grief. Now trust is a big issue for her to be won back over. She now works for his competitor and doing very well for herself. Clive seems genuinely happy for her until her big presentation and something goes wrong and the suspicion is on Clive again...... Next and last book!
One thing I can say is that Deborah sucks you into her writing and doesn't let go until you have reached the very end. I can't believe the cliffhanger that part two ended on but at least part three will be releasing in two days. One thing I can say is that I was extremely proud of Lilly for standing up to Clive. Her resolve didn't break once and she told him everything that he did wrong in their brief relationship. I love that she's not too naive to believe him and take him back because he wanted her to. But after the bombshell that dropped at the end, she has no reason to believe that isn't behind the set up. He said that his persistent at going after what he wants and that's with everything. I can't wait for the final addition!
Lilly has began to work for Alec at his technology company. (the Alec who is with Kayla from a previous series). She is still grieving and her friend Ben, the ER doc (also from a prior series) is helping her sell "the house". Clive has successfully removed his foot from his mouth and is using it for more pleasurable actions, back with Lilly. It doesn't remain perfect and now I have to find out what happened and who did it?
As always, wonderful book in a wonderful series. Keep them coming Deborah and I'll keep on reading. Love them!!
I love Lilly's character. She is so fragile yet stronger than most would be in spite of her circumstances. In part 2 we see Clive and Lilly as they try to navigate through blurred lines of trust issues, tragedy and a second chances. However, just when you think they are finally on a somewhat okay place "betrayal" once again throws an ugly wrench in their path. I can't wait to know what happens in part 3.
Clive Parker a man on a mission to get the woman he wants. Lilly a woman on a mission for success and healing. The assumption and misunderstanding that was in part one is cleared up and things start to go well. However, there is always a way to get revenge.
When Lilly is on her way to get a successful career started there is a bump in the road and all things start to point to Clive! Let's see what Clive can do about this one!
Now that Lilly has quit the company because Clive accuses her of stealing an app and planned to use it in connection with his name. Well Lilly has him groveling and following her like a puppy dog to apologize and ask for forgiveness. Lilly secures a job with another tech firm Hughes, but after her first company presentation her past mistake comes back to expose her.
Lily's young age and immaturity shows a lot in this installment. She will never be able to live down that picture will she?
Lilly has gone to work for another company basically doing the same things. She and Clive have made slow progress at getting back where they were, but Slow is the key word. Lilly talks more about her past and so does Clive.
I really like Clive and I anxious to see what has happened. Looking forward to part three, the final installment to this series.
I really enjoyed this novella...super fast read (these books are really more like a serial or something...not really whole books each either in length or plot but the cliff hangers are awesome and make sense as stopping points. All 3 books are ready to read now so I am not left hanging but this would have been fun to be left hanging for a short time. Good character development in this book and serious WTF happened a the end there. Ready for book 3 right now-LOL.
Okay, no way I saw THAT ending coming. Genius, that Deborah Bladon! Again, I want to throat punch Clive, but please don't let him be that guy, please!! I want to cry for Lilly. She is so strong, so together. I would loved to get a deeper peek into her relationship with her grandmother. There's something there. Although, I am not sure my heart can take it. I need a glass of wine before I move on. I don't see myself sleeping until the last book is read.
