In the shadows of London’s elite, secrets don’t just hide—they hunt.

Sarah Bennett wasn’t looking for danger. But the moment she crossed paths with Heath Ashwyck—a man wrapped in elegance and darkness—her life began to unravel.
Whispers of politics, forbidden desires, and a hidden society of predators close in, pulling her deeper into a world where every glance is calculated and every touch could cost her more than her life.

When a masked ball turns into a silent war of power and seduction, Sarah finds herself marked—not by chance, but by design. And as the walls of deception close around her, she’ll discover that in this game, survival isn’t about being the strongest… but the most untouchable.

Haustus is a slow-burn dark romance woven with mystery, seduction, and a chilling elegance. Perfect for readers who crave dangerous men, intoxicating tension, and stories that linger like a kiss in the dark.

4.5 ⭐️

This may have been a shorter read, but this one sinks its teeth in. 👏

We’re thrown headfirst into a fast-paced, banter-heavy story where a very human Sarah accidentally stumbles into the glittering, lethal underbelly of vampire high society.

So naturally when she stares into the dark, Heath stares right back. Sharp-tongued, dangerous, and entirely too interested in a woman who was never meant to see his world… let alone survive it.

The banter is elite tier, the mystery binds every scene, and the slow burn that feels criminally restrained in the best way. And just when you think you’ve got your footing—boom. That ending hits.

And listen… that cliffhanger? Absolutely unhinged. I immediately flipped pages like I could bully more story into existence. The only thought in my head was: ohhh, the possibilities 😈

Major kudos to the author because this does not read like a debut. The pacing is sharp, the worldbuilding is confident, and the story knows exactly what it’s doing.

I’m already counting down until the next installment because I need answers, consequences, and more of this deliciously dangerous vampire elite.

Highly recommend for readers who crave:
• Slow-burn vampire romance
• Razor-sharp banter
• Hidden supernatural societies
• Human x vampire tension
• A mystery that keeps you flying through the pages

I won’t rate this, since there are so few reviews. It doesn’t seem like a bad book and I don’t want to skew any numbers. It isn’t for me at the moment.

The narrative is very.. extensively introspective. It’s sort of nice at first, but then it starts to bog things down. Too much of a good thing, maybe. It took a really long time for simple points to be made and brief conversations took up too many pages. The prose is starting to go purple on the edges.. can conversations turn purple? Because the interactions between the main characters are very dramatic and metaphorical. [side note: it should be illegal to reference Wuthering Heights in romances. That book is horror, not romance. I mean, I love it too, but it makes me uncomfortable to see it used like that. Only Wuthering Heights can get away with Wuthering Heights quotes.] So I’m going to take a break. I think this is the sort of thing that a lot of people might enjoy; it’s very illustrative. But it isn’t my cup of tea.

This also seems to be primarily romance focused in the plot department, and that also isn’t my thing at this point in my life. This won’t be a problem for anyone who enjoys the romance genre. I need a bit more story to go alongside it.

So, overall not a bad book, just not currently for me.

Another book I read in one sitting. I've been reading a lot of alternative vampire stories of late and this one ticked that box too. Heath and Sarah make an interesting duo and I'm enjoying watching their dynamics change. Now to wait for the next one!

✨ I absolutely devoured this book and I’m already dying for book 2!! 🔥
This story had me hooked from page one — the mystery, the tension, the slow burn… ughhh I’m obsessed!! 😍

Sarah Bennett wasn’t looking for danger, but the moment she crossed paths with Heath Ashwyck — that elegant, dangerous man wrapped in secrets — her whole world unraveled. 🖤 Every glance, every touch, every lie had me screaming “just one more chapter!”
