Mexico Can Choke On It

Rate this book
My brother’s getting married in paradise. The bride’s my high school nemesis. And I’m stuck fake-smiling through it… with my lifelong crush-slash-billionaire babysitter.

Hi, I’m Petra—tattooed, chaotic, and one margarita away from blowing this whole thing up. Something’s off about my brother’s perfect fiancée, and I plan to snoop until I prove it.

Unfortunately, I get caught. By him—Bryce Sterling. My brother’s best friend. rich, rule-following, and stupidly hot in three piece suits. He’s helping me investigate (bad idea), we’re sharing secrets (worse idea), and now I’m falling for the man who’s always seen me as the rebellious kid sister with too many opinions and not enough self-control.

Oh, and plot I'm at a mansion wedding where the flower arrangements cost more than my car, the butler thinks I'm here to clean the rooms, and a Chanel-wearing Maltese has better manners than I do.

One week in Mexico. One scorching connection. And one wildly inappropriate fantasy I really need to stop having.

Fans of Meghan Quinn will devour this steamy, laugh-out-loud romcom packed with forbidden feels, chaotic tequila-fueled schemes, and a wildcard heroine who always breaks the rules.

AHHHH! I knew I would love Mexico Can Choke On It for the simple fact that I loved the first two books in the series. But this! This is pure gold! The banter, the tension, the spice when Petra and Bryce finally give in. A strong female always makes for an amazing story. This is genius in written form. I laughed, I got flustered, then pissed off, and hated men right along with Petra.

I am forever a fan of MelisaRyun from this point forward. I will bow at your feet and beg for another book, I’m not above it!

Petra was so absolutely fun! I loved how she was fierce and Independent, never let anyone talk her into being someone she's not.
Bryce was handsome and had a dirty mouth on him hiding behind those designer clothes.
Petra and Bryce spend the week together before her brother's wedding. She knows something is up with his fiance and does all she can to protect her family.

Words... I need to find words...
It's not easy. Perfect is not enough to describe this book.
I wasn't sure if they could top the second book in the series, but they did 😱

I felt EVERY emotion while I read this book. I laughed (it wouldn't be a rom-com if there wasn't something to laugh 😉), I was angry, I cried, and I felt 🔥 (OMG does Bryce have a dirty 👄).

This book is crazy. Really, really crazy!!! It felt like I was on LSD or E 🤣 And I mean that in a positive way (even though I'm against drugs). It's just so freaking crazy. Did I mention that this book is crazy? Not just because of this extreme stiffy billionaire. And I'm talking EXREAM STIFFY!!! Old money stiffy. A 10-foot pole in the 🍑 stiffy. Never eaten real (normal) food, stiffy. OMG, yes, that's real crime. Honestly, who can eat all this crap????
Just thinking about it gets my last meal up again... I'm just saying "bird's nest soup" 🤢 That's not edible, please tell me it's not!!!
There is so much crazier stuff. And I can't talk about it... 😖 For example, the thing about the dog. Yes, the dog from the cover. This sweet, cute, cuddly dog. Is she? Or is she not? It's again something that makes the book so perfectly ridiculous 🤣
It's a rom-com, so ridiculous and laughing is important 😉

Bryce said he has clothes for every occasion... I think he meant every occasion he lives. And he doesn't live outside his office. So he only wears suits 🙈 And this guy is falling for the rebel? 🤣 But I'm not even sure if Petra really is a rebel. In my opinion, she is just "normal" 😉 OK, OK, she has a few flaws, but who doesn't? Don't these flaws make us normal? 😁

Petra and Bryce couldn't be more opposite than they are. And it makes them so perfect for each other.

I could write and write and write to talk about this book forever. Yes, I said, I need to find words, but I needed them to describe the book, not to talk about it 😁 But I'll stop now...

If you like rom-coms, this book is definitely a MUST-READ!!!! I recommend reading the other two books in this series first, but it's not necessary because they are set during the same time, so it doesn't spoil anything. But they are just so good, you need to read them too!

Thanks to @happilybookedpr and the author for trusting me with an ARC 🩷

"She stood in front of this pretentious mirror, covered in chiffon and judgement" 💃🏼

I was so excited to dive back into the world of the CPK girls, and I'm thrilled to say that Mexico Can Choke On It by MéLisa Ryun was exactly the fun-filled, heartfelt escape I was hoping for. Having already fallen in love with the previous books, I had high expectations, and this one absolutely delivered. Petra and Bryce's story was a pure delight from start to finish. I was so invested in their journey, from the initial spark to their beautiful, complicated romance. And let's not forget Miss Muffy Von Cashmere the dog, who was a truly brilliant (& hilarious) addition to the story. This book provided so many laugh-out-loud moments!! 😂

MéLisa Ryun have a real talent for creating characters you want to be friends with. The CPK girls are everything you could want in a group of best mates – their banter, support, and friendship feel so genuine and authentic. I also actually adored Sebastian Bellini; despite his seemingly mean exterior in his designer clothing shop, his secret heart of gold eventually shines through, which I absolutely loved. He gave off the vibes of the nice concierge in Pretty Woman.

This book is a treasure trove of my favourite tropes. It has an excellent secret crush plot, the exhilarating excitement of a holiday romance, and the sheer pleasure of a forced proximity scenario. Seeing Petra and Bryce navigate their situation with such humour and tenderness was a joy. There's also a wonderfully endearing 'found family' theme running through the series that I simply adore. This book was a perfect blend of comedy and romance, with a wonderfully well-paced storyline and a strong narrative voice. I'm already eagerly anticipating the next instalment. I know she's not one of the OGs, but I've got my fingers crossed that Hana's story is next! She deserves her own happily ever after, and I hope I get to see what MéLisa Ryun have in store for her.

I have absolutely LOVED this entire series! It will have you cracking up out loud almost in tears.

Petra is the outspoken, loud, not afraid to say what she thinks, roots for the underdogs, and would rather wear leather and combat boots. She is used to everyone telling her she is not enough her entire life, but she is unapologetically her. She has also been secretly in love with her brother’s best friend since high school. But he is a billionaire and she doesn’t believe she belongs in his world.

Bryce is the everyday suit wearing billionaire who has been groomed his entire life to take over the family business. It’s not about what he wants, it’s about what is best for his family legacy and image.

When Bryce and Petra are forced to spend more time together after he convinces her to go to Mexico for her brother’s wedding feelings start to surface. The banter between these two had me dying with laughter. When she taser him…omgggg, I couldn’t stop laughing. Or when they were in The Ice Room… omg, I could go on and on. The two of them pushing each other to see who would cave first because they are both so darn stubborn. If two people weren’t meant for each other. Just be prepared to giggle and laugh out loud.

I just want to say, I loved the side characters Nigel and Hana in this book. Hana turned into a little baddie there at the end and I loved it. She needs her own book.

Once again, the Hot Mess Summer series has absolutely blown me away! I loved this book so much; I laughed, I cried, I kicked my feet, the whole kit and caboodle!! Petra was exactly what I expected of her, given the first two books, but the sheer drive and determination we got to see from her in this one was absolutely amazing! Her heart is so big, and seeing how she would do anything for the people she loved, and the people she felt deserved the extra attention, was just so stunning! You just can't help but fall for her, especially seeing how she maintains her own sense of self through the whole "obscene wealth" crowd! And Bryce was such a real, raw MMC, in that we get to see him wrestle with the downsides of this ultra-wealthy life, and how weighed down by familiar expectations he is! His push to do what is right by his best friend, trying to protect his people, despite his dad's wants for him was so great to see!! And the side characters we meet in this book are absolutely incredible!! Miss Muffy and Nigel had me absolutely cackling! Not to mention my new need of a Hana/Gavin book!! And in true MeLisa Ryun fashion, there was so much heart and emotion coming from the places you least expected it! I ate this book up, just like the first two! It truly was the perfect addition to this series! I truly cannot wait to see where this series goes with Blaze!! 5 stars; 3.75 chili peppers

Tropes:
- Brother's Best Friend
- Billionaire MMC
- Forced Proximity
- Opposites Attract
- Childhood Crush
- Black Cat FMC

I was beyond thrilled to dive back into this world, and Mexico Can Choke On It turned out to be everything I hoped for and so much more. MéLisa Ryun delivers another laugh-out-loud adventure that had me hooked from the very first page. And I'm saying it right here but this one was my favourite!
Petra and Bryce's story was an absolute delight. Petra is every bit the firecracker we've come to love; bold, brash, fiercely loyal, and unapologetically herself, even in the face of obscene wealth and entitled elites. Her big heart shines through every page, especially when it comes to protecting her brother and the people she loves. Bryce, on the other hand, is such a refreshing MMC. Beneath the billionaire polish is a man carrying the weight of impossible expectations, yet determined to do right by his best friend and follow his own heart. Together, Petra and Bryce have a romance that is equal parts messy, tender, funny, and beautifully real.
Of course, no Hot Mess Summer book would be complete without unforgettable side characters. Miss Muffy Von
Cashmere (yes, the fabulously spoiled pup) and Nigel had me in stitches.
And can we talk about Hana and Gavin? I am officially begging for their book next.
This story is a goldmine of my favorite tropes; brother's best friend, secret crush, forced proximity, billionaire romance.
The shenanigans are wild, the banter is razor-sharp, and the emotions sneak up on you in the best way. One moment I was cackling, the next I was clutching my chest, and yes, I absolutely did the full "laugh-cry-kick-my-feet" routine more than once.
Mexico Can Choke On It is rom-com chaos at its finest: clever, chaotic, and completely hilarious. If you love hilarious banter, swoony billionaires, and heroines who would tase a snob without hesitation, this book will absolutely steal your heart. I can't wait to see what Mélisa Ryun bring us next!

Petra is a walking disaster who is in love with her brother's best friend.

Growing up poor, Petra has vowed to stay true to who she is and fight for the ones who get walked over by the rich.

Her brother, Gavin has vowed to make a life where he is rich and never has to want for anything. And now he's marrying her childhood bully.

His best friend convinces her to go to the luxury Mexican resort for the wedding and they'll help each other. He's tired of making small talk with rich people, and has secrets to hide. She has no idea how to hang around near rich people without embarrassing her brother.

But his fiancé seems to be hiding something. And Petra and Bryce can't stay away from each other.

This novel, like the others in the Hot Mess Summer series, is full of crazy antics, laugh out loud moments, ridiculous characters, and so much heart.

I loved this whole series and cannot wait to read more from MeLisa Ryun!

Petra’s raging internal thoughts : Let’s head to Mexico for my brother’s wedding, with his best friend, who I’ve had a crush on for-ever, everything will be fine. Spoiler alert, everything did not turn out fine. Going to the exclusive Casa Cashmere estate that is owned by a Maltese billionaire named Miss Muffy wasn’t what Petra would call a normal wedding destination. She isn’t used to having her own personal wardrobe, flying on a private jet, having fancy dinners on a yacht or having diamond spa treatments. Bryce is supposed to keep an eye on his best friends sister but all he can think about is how he loves her red lips, black combat boots & that she’s 100% authentically herself. The tension between these two is thick, the banter is non-stop & Petra’s funny comebacks are fantastically hilarious.

The chain of events that happen before, during and after this spectacular Mexico wedding.will have you gasping & laughing. Comedy, funny antics & outrageous hijinks make the perfect rom-com.

Well, first of all - thank you to MéLisa Ryun for an advanced copy of this to read and review. I am going to give you an unfiltered and honest review.
I sat down on Sunday to read this and I couldn't put it down. I forwent sleep to finish this funny and charming book.

Petra - I knew she was going to be my favourite of the three friends. She is me, and I love everything about her character and growth.

Bryce - well, he was a surprise and a very happy one at that.

I loved the forced proximity, the brother best friend trope, the fumbling and bumbling about of Petra as the chaos agent she is.

I laughed out loud a lot, and I swore a lot, too. These two are chalk and cheese - or are they?

They are alike in so many ways, but the best was the way they teased and taunted each other, respectful and fun and silly.

The premise of the island where the wedding happens is so over the top, you just know it's likely a real place. But having the matron be a dog was something I didn't see coming. It was absurd but fun and original.

The steam and spice in this one was the best by far - getting to read how Bryce loses his stranglehold on his control and that he does it with the woman of his dreams (and sometimes nightmares), let's be honest, because Petra is a hot mess for half the book.

Who doesn't love a hot mess?

The secondary plot of Petra's brother and his fiancée's (her high school nemesis) wedding and the surprise at the end was a nice plot to follow along with, and I hope he gets his HEA in one of the next books. Her nemesis had it coming, and I didn't feel bad for her at all.
Bryce's father was a horrible human being, and I was worried Bryce was going to go down the same road, but my man redeemed himself in the best way at the end.

I just keep loving each book in this series, and it is fast becoming one of my favourite non-hockey romance spicy series. I recommend - highly recommend you read these all. You won't be disappointed!

Quote
"I can't be his forever girl. But i can be the woman he dreams about. The wildfire in his memories -the one that never quite burns out."

Tropes:
• Dual POVs/1st person
• Opposites attract
• Slow burn
• Best friend's sister

I went in wanting something light, romantic, and fun—and this book gave me exactly that. I loved the hilarious banter, the delicious tension while they kept their “relationship” secret, and the way their dynamic felt so natural.

The FMC was bold, unapologetic, and unstoppable, while the MMC was her total opposite—measured, proper, but completely undone by her. Their chemistry was fire, the passion intense, and the spicy scenes were perfectly done.

This was my first time reading this author duo, and it won’t be the last.

Do i recommend?
Absolutely! If you want a quick, entertaining romance with humor, spice, and opposites-attract magic, this one’s for you!

Mexico Can Choke On It is so full of hilarious chaos. I have immediately added it to my 5 star to be RE-READ list.

Mexico Can Choke On It is apart of the Hot Mess Summer series where 3 friends each find their hunky hotties through adventure and unexpected swoon worthy moments at every twist and turn.

In Mexico Can Choke On It, Petra is a red lipstick-wearing firecracker who doesn’t take crap from literally ANYONE. Especially not the elite 1% snoots that think they own the world and can change the color of the sky with a flick of their wrists. If one of them crosses her path and so much as looks at her the wrong way, well, they just may get tased. 😂 There is, however, one billionaire boy that has captured her heart since she was a teenager and just doesn’t seem to be able to forget him. Enter Bryce Sterling, billionaire babe. Also, Petra’s brother is getting married…to the one girl who made it her mission to knock Petra down every chance she got…AKA: The Bully. Petra suspects something’s up with her brother’s fiancée and she won’t stop until she knows her brother isn’t making a mistake. And omg all the shenanigans! And a K-9 billionaire heiress that can actually…dance? It was fun seeing Petra attempt to fit in with the elites temporarily just for her brother’s sake.

This super fun and laugh out loud rom-com actually has some of my most favorite tropes! Most importantly, the billionaire trope. Brother’s best friend. She’s a baddy. All the fun! And omg the twitching body parts 😂 ok enough said. Go read this.

Hot Mess Summer: Mexico by MeLisa Ryun was yet another rollercoaster of a journey to read. As the final book in the series following best friends Katie, Camila, and Petra, the CPK trio, this installment was a joyride from start to finish. And while all three stories had their charm, Petra definitely won my heart (after Katie’s plot, of course).

The story kicks off with Petra helping organize her brother’s wedding, only to run into Bryce Sterling, her brother’s best friend and her long-time childhood crush. Seeing him again, suited up with that irresistible smile, was enough to melt more than just the Mexican summer heat. What she doesn’t expect, however, is to discover that Bryce feels the same undeniable attraction she’s hidden for years. Cue the tension, chemistry, and plenty of chaos, because surviving this wedding just got a lot hotter.

As a whole, I enjoyed the plot. Petra and Bryce’s encounters, both emotional and physical, added spice and fun throughout. That said, I did find their opposites attract dynamic a bit hard to connect with at times. It occasionally felt as though the authors were pushing too hard to make them polar opposites, which sometimes made the chemistry feel forced. Petra’s “troublemaker” personality had great potential but wasn’t always portrayed consistently, especially in contrast to Bryce and her brother.

Despite those minor issues, the book still delivered plenty of laughs, heat, and heartfelt moments. After finding Hawaii Can Suck It a bit average, I’m glad to say Mexico was a definite step up — though Italy still remains my favorite of the series.

Overall, MeLisa Ryun wrapped up the Hot Mess Summer series with a lively, romantic finale that celebrates friendship, love, and chaos in all the best ways. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what the authors do next!

The story was good. It was cute and funny and all the things a romcom should be. I just really didn’t like Petra’s character and how if felt like her personality shifted every other chapter. The first chapter she was this chaos gremlin and hell bent on not letting anything change that then half way through she’s this lovesick puppy. Bryce’s growth felt like growth and you could see his shift but Petra’s just felt off hand and inconsistent. The book was not bad but it definitely felt like it was missing something.

I was provided a free ARC copy from Happily Booked PR in exchange for my honest review.

I just can't with these two. With the authors or the characters! Money Bags and Pip are meant to be. Pip is hilariously, unapologetically unhinged. In the best way. Bryce is the big brother's best friend we all want. I laughed so much through this.

The flow is perfect. There is never a dull moment. The CPK chat is top-notch. This is a series that I will always come back to and will recommend. MéLisa and Ryun will go far.

I loved Italy Can Bite Me and Hawaii Can Suck It, so I was really excited to read Mexico Can Choke On It - and it did not disappoint! Once again, this author team had me laughing and rolling my eyes at the same time. I loved their skewering of the insanely rich (the 1% of the 1%?) and their obsession with what’s rare, even if it’s total trash. This duo writes such fun (and sexy) rom-coms! If you enjoy a rom-com, with an emphasis on both the “rom” and the “com”, this series is for you.

Camila, Petra, and Katie are a very tight trio of friends and this book finally gives us Petra’s story. (Katie was the main focus of the Italy book and Camila was the main focus of the Hawaii book). The trio called themselves CPK because of their names and because of their love of the restaurant chain, California Pizza Kitchen. (Camila and Katie are only in this book via group texts, similar to the other two books in the series.) Although this is the third book, published after Italy and Hawaii, I love that you can read them as standalones. The series is called Hot Mess Summer and the action in this one takes place simultaneously with the action in the other two books, which I thought was great - so there were no real spoilers for the first two books.

I absolutely loved Petra! She’s chaos personified, but she also has a serious side, and wants to go back to finish college and then go to law school to fight for the little guy. I adored how she had a signature lipstick that costs very little (the Wet n Wild brand). She’s barely keeping her head above (financial) water as the book starts. She brings a breath of fresh air to the snooty world of the super-rich. Among the laughs, there is a serious side to the story, showing that people are more than their bank accounts and their “legacy.”

Petra has been in love with/infatuated by Bryce Sterling since she was a teen. He’s her older brother Gavin’s best friend, even though their wealth disparity is humongous. Bryce is heir to a financial empire. Petra calls him Moneybags. Gavin and Petra are children of a mom who worked multiple jobs to make it, having been dumped by her well-to-do husband when the kids were young. Gavin managed to get into Princeton (along with Bryce) and has really made something of himself. He and Bryce have created a start-up that helps “normal” people learn financial literacy and investing. They are just about ready for their IPO but Bryce’s father has thrown a monkey wrench into things. Bryce is feeling the pressure to join the Sterling empire and marry someone “acceptable.” Petra is the polar opposite of what Bryce’s family wants for him, but he can’t help being attracted to her - because she’s real. Then Gavin asks Petra to fly to Mexico to help with the last-minute plans for his destination wedding (to a woman Petra cannot stand).

There are some fantastic side characters, starting with Sebastian Bellini, a Beverly Hills fashion styler, who met with Petra in a Pretty-Woman-esque chapter that had me cracking up. And then there’s the Casa Cashmere resort manager, Nigel Featherwick. And the dog (picture on the cover)!

We get chapters from Petra’s POV and from Bryce’s, which I loved. Here’s a quote from one of Bryce’s chapters:
“My father’s friends trade in wives as if they’re depreciating assets. My mother’s circle views husbands as necessary accessories, like statement jewelry but with stock options.”

Warning: There are a LOT of very spicy scenes in this book, along with the funny ones!

What to expect:
 Romcom
 Billionaire
 Brother’s Best Friend
 Opposites Attract
 Secret Crush
 Destination Wedding
 Slow Burn
 Snooping Gone Wrong

Thank you so much to the author(s) and to Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Petra is still figuring out what she wants to do with her life - she left college with one year left toward her bachelor’s degree in a subject she isn’t passionate about anymore, and now she’s working for her rich brother’s company in exchange for him helping with tuition. When her brother’s fiancée, Fiona, decides to move up the wedding due to an opening at an exclusive Mexican mansion, Petra is charged with spending a week in Mexico helping to coordinate the wedding in exchange for no longer having to work at the company.. Oh, and of course Fiona just happens to be Petra’s high school bully! The wedding forces Petra to work closely with Bryce, her childhood crush + older brother’s best friend. They kissed once 8 years ago and have avoided each other since.. but do the feelings remain?

This book gives us: a dog who is an heiress of an exclusive destination venue/mansion, some absolutely absurd billionaire behavior, a strong combat boot-wearing FMC thrown into the billionaire world, rich people wedding drama, and lovers from opposite social classes and worlds. I absolutely adored this book from Melisa Ryun, just like I loved the first two books, and I highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun book with spice that will also make you laugh out loud. These books are interconnected standalones, so you can read in any order!

Read if you love:
👫 forced proximity
🗣️ banter like crazy
😏 brother’s best friend
💸 billionaire romance
🏝️ vacation rom com
🎣 fish out of water
💖 Childhood crush to lovers

Thank you to Melisa Ryun and Happily Booked PR for the ARC! I am absolutely loving this series 🤩

Talk about a spicy, laugh-out-loud romp; this book hit all the right notes and was nearly impossible to put down. From the very first page, I knew that I was in for a ride and was in stitches the entire book.
Petra, the FMC, was pure gold. She is this whirlwind of chaos, attitude, tattoos, and larger than life personality. She wasn't just fun, she feels real in her messiness and boldness, which made she a standout character.
The tension between Petra and Bryce was sizzling and I loved how they see beyond the exterior to the self that they are too scared to show everyone else. Their banter had me laughing, their chemistry had my fanning my cheeks, and those few quieter moments add this depth that made me root for them even harder.
The writing was spectacular and I want to go back read the entire series. It's hilarious, fast-paced, and hot. This books is absolutely worth reading.

“My world taught me that people like you were beneath me, when actually, Petra, you’re above us all”

“I’m addicted to her chaos”

This book is literally hilarious.
The taser scene had me in stitches - I was literally cry laughing uncontrollably

I loved how Petra was not just a wild child, but embraced HERSELF without apology. She knew exactly who she was and owned it. She spray-painted her own car for crying out loud.

Bryce seems to come into his own and he grew on me, the more and more we got to know him. His hesitation at the end made me very angry, but in the end, he did make the right decision, so I guess we can like him again.

I feel like a stroy for Gavin is going to be coming soon. This poor man, who now thinks that anyone who is trying to get close to him is only after his money. He needs a redemption arc, STAT.

Mexico Can Choke On it is a fantastic romantic comedy. This book is amazing! I really enjoyed the whole story and it was almost impossible to put down! This is my favorite book so far in this series they are all great but this one was the chef's kiss! This book has so much going on from but in a good way.

Petra has been in love with her brothers BFF Sterling since she was a teen. She tried kissing him once and he ran away. Sterling is rich, and from a well know family, and is expected to marry a woman who his parents approve of that is also rich and from another well known family. When Petra finds out that Sterling is single will she get her chance, and if she does will his family allow them to be together? Guess you better read to find out!!

This book had me laughing from the very first paragraph. Petra Brinkman is a force of nature. While everyone is ready to write her off as poor and a catastrophic failure, she has no problem standing up for herself and wearing her combat boots to stomp her life into submission. Bryce Sterling had his life planned out for him before he was even born. The billionaire is ready for life on his own terms. Will he be strong enough to admit to himself and the world what he really wants? This is the ultimate opposites attract situation.

I loved this! I was laughing out loud for a good chunk of this book, while simultaneously having secondhand embarrassment for some of the things that were happening
Petra and Bryce were so cute together and I loved how Petra made Bryce see a new outlook on life.
There was never a dull moment in this book!

This story was full of incredible banter that had me laughing out loud, ample yearning between Petra & her brothers BFF, Bryce, and it was one of the most entertaining rom-coms I’ve read! 💖

I want to be best friends with Petra; she’s unfiltered, witty & unapologetically herself, while simultaneously trying to not let her brother down by fitting into this socialite wedding getaway setting. Her internal thoughts are icing on the cake of this story 🎂 Utterly hilarious and entraining read, with spicy banter and lots of great dialogue!

I really wanted to like this book as much as I liked the others, but it didn’t hit for me. It had its funny moments but I struggled getting through this book.

This is the third book in the Hot Mess Summer series, and it follows Petra, a walking disaster who is in love with her older brother's rich best friend. Petra has had a crush on Bryce Sterling since she was a teen, and now, they’re spending a week together before her brother, Gavin’s, wedding. She suspects something is up with Gavin’s fiancée, not just because he’s marrying Petra’s childhood bully, and will do anything to protect him. Bryce can’t help but fall for Petra because she’s the opposite of what he’s used to; she’s real and has 0 filter.
Overall, the plot was really enjoyable. There were some hilarious moments throughout the book caused by Petra’s chaos storm, but I didn’t really connect with her character. Her character felt very inconsistent, whereas I felt that Bryce actually grew as a person. One thing I did like about Petra was that she was unapologetically herself, and no amount of condescension from the rich would change her.
Even though this is the third in the series, I liked that you could still read them as standalones. All three storylines take place simultaneously, and I liked that Petra’s two best friends make a virtual appearance in this book.
