I got this for my daughter as she's just starting junior high, and I'll say, the vibe is... intense. The title alone, with "Crush" and "Win the Day", tells you everything. This is a battle plan for kids who want to be at the top of their game.
As a parent, I appreciate that it's trying to be a "cool older friend" instead of a boring teacher. It's upbeat, uses "hacks", and genuinely tries to give kids confidence. It covers everything: study skills, social media, bullies, friends. It's nice to have a book that tries to give them a "success strategy" for all the new things they're juggling.
But here's the parent-level critique: it's all about "leveling up" and "winning". It's so focused on success that it feels like it's adding to the pressure, not just relieving it. The book is packed with strategies for how to be a great student, a great friend, and a great online citizen, all at once. That's a lot to put on a kid.
If I could add a suggestion for the next edition, it would be to add a chapter on what to do when you don't win. What's the advice for the kid who bombs the test, gets left out by their friend group, or just has a completely terrible, no-good, very bad day? The book is missing the chapter on failure, and that's just as important as the one on success.

Great advice for getting through middle school. These tips make perfect sense and feel relevant to the school experience. We could have a used a little more details in terms of stories and examples but otherwise this book is solid.
