It’s a tale as old as time. You start watching a comedian. You think they’re kind of weird and move on. They keep popping up year after year and the next thing you know they are your favorite comedian, you’re invested in them owning a boat, and you buy a couple of books for them to sign when you see them live next month. There is a pressure to give the book 5 stars but you want to maintain your objective standards and sense of honesty to yourself. Then you see you’re the first rating for the book and the pressure mounts so you start asking yourself some esoteric, obfuscating questions like “what is the value of one star in a 5 star rating system?” Or “how does anyone determine the value of anything outside of a free market economic system, so in buying the book I've effectively already given it 5 stars.” And that muddles the waters enough to let you give into the pressure for at least long enough for some other ratings to come in.
