The only thing worse than running into my grumpy ex? Having to choose between living with him, or living in my car.
When I move back to my ex’s small town, I want to avoid him at all costs. JD didn’t just break my heart ten years ago. He ran it over, then backed over it again.
So naturally, I end up as his physical therapist. And to rub salt in the wound, he finds out I’m living out of my car and demands I move into his spare room.
Yeah, he's as bossy as ever. He still acts like he's allergic to laughter. But he also pampers me after a long night out, remembers my favorite lunch...and insists on making it for me when I forget to eat.
The more he grumpily dotes on me, the more I remember how good the two of us used to be and how he touches me like no one else can.
But he already crushed my heart once. I won't give him a second chance to do it again.
Pour Decisions is a quick read that is equal parts sweet, spicy, and heartbreaking. The story is centered on JD and Katrina who dated for an intense period of time a decade ago, and how they rebuild their relationship. At the same time, they're both navigating difficult family dynamics and feelings of betrayal/feeling unappreciated. Even though this book is short, I truly felt connected to them as characters, and loved how mature they both were!
One of the things I admired most about JD and Katrina was their ability to talk things through and move forward. After initially guarding their hearts from being hurt, they were both so honest and forthcoming that it was a breath of fresh air. There's no third act breakup, no miscommunication about something small—just two grown people down bad for one another, being the support systems they always wanted.
The true star of this book is Bubba. I don't think I've ever been so drawn to a fictional dog before, but I wanted to sneak him all the food and give him all the pats in the world. He was truly such a good boy—I don't want to keep going on and on about him, but he deserved all the attention and then some!
This is my first time reading something by Audrey Vaughn and I can't wait to read more! Her writing is engaging, the angst was angsty, the spice was spicy, and I cannot overstate how much I absolutely adored JD and Katrina. Not because they were perfect, but because they were human and flawed and so incredibly lovable.
The family drama was well done without being drawn out, but I do wish that more space had been given to Katrina's dynamic with her mother, because it is very common in the Black community, and to be honest, her mom could've been pressed a little more in my opinion! However, part of me did enjoy how quickly it was wrapped up because it felt more firmly dealt with in a way.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me an ARC!
Okay, so let me start by saying…I used to roll my eyes at second-chance romances. I swore that trope was just not for me. But I’m learning it’s not the trope, it’s the execution, and Pour Decisions by Audrey Vaughn proved that point.
What I really loved was watching the main couple peel back the layers of their breakup. The reasons behind their separation weren’t surface-level or cliché they were complex, full of hidden factors and outside influences they didn’t even realize were at play. The way the author unraveled that truth piece by piece felt both messy and real, which made their reunion that much more satisfying.
Now let me just say…the parents in this book… WHEW. They had me ready to square up. They perfectly represented control, manipulation, and the kind of generational baggage that makes you want to scream for the characters. But what I appreciated most was how the story showed the characters learning to navigate those family dynamics. It wasn’t an overnight fix, it was growth over time, and that gave the book extra layers beyond just the romance.
Overall, this was a great palette cleanser read for me. It gave me just the right balance of angst, healing, and heart without dragging me down or feeling too heavy. A solid 4-star read.
This was definitely different to the first two books with there being more spice and more connection on a deeper level. But I have to say the stars dropped for me because JD and Kat had previous history so it was more of a second chance romance which was cute, but there was no depth really.
It was more of a redemption kind of romance with revelations from the past coming to light. It was nice to see JD gets his happy ending though, but I’m excited for the youngest brother because I didn’t get a read on him for sure.
I love a good second chance romance, especially when it's an "it's always been you" kind of romance. JD and Katrina dated and were in love 10 years ago when he suddenly broke her heart. She's spent those years away from town but moves back after her divorce. They both have always still felt the loss but tried to move on. They are thrown back together when she becomes his physical therapist. Soon lines begin to blur when he offers her a place to stay. When old secrets emerge, what will happen to their relationship now?
This was a cute , short and sweet second chance romance between JD and Katrina. This book had me smiling and laughing throughout the entire thing. It left me wanting more. I enjoyed seeing how both JD and Kat learned how to stand up for themselves. Audrey is a new to me author and I look forward to diving more into her catalog. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I got the chance to get an ARC for this one and much like every Audrey Vaughn book, once you pick this up, you won't be able to put it down! With this being the third installation of the Stryker series, we finally get into the lore of JD and that grumpy brooding exterior. I absolutely loved this one!!
My most anticipated brother didn't disappoint! Officially has become my favorite one. The complexity of Katrina's apprehension and longing mixed with JD's yearning and intentionality gives us a glimpse on how things used to be and how they could be now in this second chance romance. Things were addressed head on, the pace was great and the dual POV really ties everything in. This book contained so many twists, and I mean that literally and figuratively. And the spice?! Oowee! John David, the man that you are! I was unfamiliar with your game. The themes in this one were fresh, fleshed out, and married the past and present so well. I loved the recall and exploration into the family ties - we get to see the root beneath JD's stoic expression and how this plagues his whole life. We also got insight into Katrina‘s home life and family dynamics and my jaw kept dropping. Great mixture of sweetness and drama. All in all, this was fantastic read, some might even say a whimsical one. 🦋
I'm excited for the fourth book which I hope will be all about Ash. I need to know what's behind the tattooed musician of the family and what’s going on or went on with and Waylon’s best friend!! 👀🎉
Pour Decisions follows Katrina, a recently divorced physical therapist, and JD, her chronically grumpy ex-boyfriend from a decade in the past. After a sudden eviction by her unreasonable landlord, Katrina is invited to move in to JD’s spare room. Despite their break up, he still wants to make sure she’s taken care of. Obviously, this convenient proximity and lingering attraction leads to sparks. Their past baggage looms, but so does their feelings for one another.
I enjoyed the connection between Katrina and JD. They both sincerely viewed the other as their “one who got away” and seemed to balance each other out well. I felt like 2/3rds of the story went well, but then the last chunk felt rushed and not as developed as the start. The chronological pacing of the story got me tripped up from time to time, and the supporting characters were more like unresolved “guest appearances” rather than important parts of the main characters’ lives.
Overall, I thought this was a light, low-stakes read that was an easy palette cleanser for me. Almost like an episode of a likable sitcom - a little conflict, a little fun, and everything is wrapped up well enough by the end. Read as an ARC.
For starters, I absolutely adore Audrey Vaughn’s books, since the first one I read I couldn’t put it down. They’re small-town and heartfelt.
I have been craving our grumpy man’s book since the first book in this series! JD did not disappoint at all. He’s everything I imagined him to be and more. Katrina, she’s perfect and honestly my favorite FMC in the series. They’re all absolutely amazing but Kat is just awesome with her wittiness, being so firm in being respected, and soooo sweet.
I absolutely LOVED this book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
If you want a cozy and spicy second chance romance this is the one for you !! I love JD and Kat they are so cute together and it melted my heart. I love that the MC’s weren’t hell bent on denying their feelings. ( that’s annoying to me ) this was sweet and a bit of drama filled! JD’s dad needs therapy and so does Kat’s mom ugh they annoyed me but I’m glad everything was settled I’m ready for Ash’s story with Waylon’s bestie I mean at least I think it’s heading that way nonetheless I love this series and I couldn’t put it down ! Don’t run walk !!
Also spice level : 🌶️ 3.5/5 ( nothing crazy but it HIT JUST RIGHT ) 😉
I recently discovered Audrey Vaughn and was blessed to be added to her ARC team. I truly enjoyed reading this story. JD and Katrina’s love story was beautifully written and at times made me audibly laugh out loud. This small-town second chance romance will leave you swooning. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.
I recently discovered Audrey Vaughn and was able to read “Sips About to Go Down” and “Just the Tipsy” not long before this recent publication of “Pour Decisions”. It was so interesting to see this new layer of JD after his portrayal in the previous books. Who knew out of the three brothers that he’d end up seeming the most desirable (in my opinion). It’s a quick read and I would’ve loved more flashbacks to his relationship in college, but I was so invested in these characters getting their happy ending that I still enjoyed it. Whether you were the one that got away or have someone who did, you’ll smile watching old flames reignite their spark.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Of the series this is my second favourite (after Sips About To Go Down). The main characters complimented each other well. Their getting back together felt inevitable. Usually not a fan of second chance romance but this one was sweet enough to win me over.
Pour yourself a glass, because Audrey Vaughn’s Pour Decisions is equal parts smooth, spicy, and heartfelt—a second-chance romance that proves sometimes the best pours come after you’ve aged a little.
The story brings us JD, the grumpy eldest Stryker brother, and Katrina, his once-upon-a-time love who’s back in town after a divorce and a decade of distance. When circumstances force them under the same roof, sparks reignite fast—but what makes this book shine isn’t just the heat. It’s the maturity. JD and Kat aren’t playing games; they’re grown, scarred, and still so hopelessly tethered to one another.
🥃 What I Sipped & Savored
The Communication: No petty miscommunication here—just two adults working through history with honesty and vulnerability. A refreshing change of pace.
The Family Layers: Vaughn weaves in family dynamics that add richness and realism, from manipulative parents to Nana’s matchmaking meddling.
The Spice: Tender but sizzling, the intimacy balances passion with comfort. JD may be grumpy, but he’s all in when it comes to Kat.
Bubba the Dog: Yes, the true star. Loyal, hilarious, and impossible not to love—he’s the brand ambassador this book deserves.
🥃 What Made Me Side-Eye My Glass
A Rushed Finish: The final act wraps a bit too quickly, leaving me wishing for a few more beats to savor the emotional payoff.
Kat’s Mother Dynamic: While touched on, it could’ve been explored with more depth given its cultural resonance and impact on her character.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐¾☆ (3.75/5) Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️½ (Warm, lingering heat with just enough burn to savor)
🥃 Final Pour
Pour Decisions is a heartfelt, steamy, small-town second-chance romance that lingers like a good bourbon—warm, layered, and comforting even when it burns a little. JD and Katrina are flawed, human, and wholly lovable, making this a standout installment in the Stryker series.
Pairs well with: a smoky bourbon cocktail and a loyal dog curled up at your side.
My Rating System:
1⭐️: The book didn’t hold my interest and/or had significant issues that overshadowed any redeeming qualities for me, but generally not my cup of tea. Most likely did not finish the book.
2⭐️: The book didn’t quite resonate with me, and while my experience wasn’t remarkable, I did finish it. It had some redeeming qualities and potential but fell short in execution. Recommendable, though with some reservations.
3⭐️: Good read, but didn’t quite stand out. Still worth recommending to others.
4⭐️: Really enjoyed it and stayed engaged throughout. Would read the book again. Definitely recommendable.
5⭐️: Incredible writing that made me deeply connect with the characters. I was completely absorbed in the world and didn’t want it to end. This book stayed with me even when I wasn’t reading it. I'd gladly reread it and highly recommend it to everyone!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I had such a great time with this book! The pacing felt really fast and made a lot of sense. It’s a second chance romance so there was tension and chemistry established already.
Love that the reason for the initial breakup was addressed earlier. It’s much more enjoyable and realistic that they would get back together without an unnecessary issue looming over the entire book I wasn’t expecting this type of yearning from JD but I’m a huge fan. He is so open with how he feels about her. Doesn’t want there to be any confusion on how he has felt or currently feels about her. Katrina is never wondering about his feelings. For someone who is know to be quite stoic, he is so open with her!
The issues that they had as a couple were separate but they tackled them together. It really felt like a couple who broke up because of circumstance, then found each other again and hit the ground running. I do wish that we got a bit more information and thoughts from Katrina about her life in the 10 years they were apart. She mentions her divorce from the very beginning and how her life was flipped upside down but we don’t see much of it. How’s her relationship with her own dad. These were things I felt would have rounded out the story a bit more. Katrina felt a bit lacking in terms of backstory. She was just JD’s the one who got away. It felt like we were already supposed to know her, how she felt, why did she feel so strong about certain things. She was an interesting character and I wanted to know her more.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I would do 3.75 because I wish we knew Katrina more. It felt like JD’s story and not their love story together. I rounded up to 4 stars because I love the writing and how fast paced it was. I couldn’t put the story down. It is the type of writing that you start and before you know it, it’s been hours and now it’s finished. I’m definitely a bit sad that I got an arc because now I’m even more excited for Ash’s story and my wait is going to be even longer.
Ya’ll, I am so happy to be back in Jepsen Tennessee with the whole Stryker crew. I have been waiting on JD’s story for so long and it is finally here!
I absolutely devoured this book! It was such a quick and addictive read that I was able to finish it all in one day. The pacing was spot on and once Kat and JD reconnected after 10 years apart…let me tell you, sparks were flying and things got really hot, really quickly! If you love a book with just the right amount of spice and heat…yep, this one is for you!
JD and Kat’s story is all about healing, forgiveness, and knowing when to hold on and when to let go. They had undeniable chemistry and their love for one another felt so believable. Outside of their romance where we see why these two had been apart all these years, the storyline with Kat and her mom really hit close to home. It was so real and relatable, and I just loved how JD helped and supported Kat through it. Her decision at the end regarding her mom had me cheering for her. Sometimes, forgiveness is the right thing, but sometimes you have to release the weight. I loved how the book portrayed that balance.
A major plus to the book was getting updates on the Stryker crew. That was such a treat! Of course Nana was back (love her!) and I loved the role she played in helping JD and Kat find their way back to each other. Lastly, the fact that JD got to work through his issues with his dad, was amazing.
Overall, this was a great read that I would absolutely recommend. I am so looking forward to Ash’s story. He seems to be going through it, and I know the right woman, and finally standing up to his dad will change his world forever. Eeek, I can’t wait!!
Firstly thank you so much to Audrey Vaughn for the early ARC! This is the third book in the Stryker Family series - but can totally be read as a standalone because I didn’t read the others in the series!
One-ish sentence summary - JD and Katrina broke up 10 years ago and never spoke again, when Katrina moves back to their small town, of course JD is assigned to her as a client for physical therapy. They have a significant history of a break up that was devastating to both of them, but will they be able to move past it?
This book is literally soooo fast! I feel like I blinked and it was over! Would recommend this as like a cute, light hearted beach or vacation read! It really kind of gave like grumpy sunshine with more sarcasm! JD it’s very stoic, but is very upfront and honest about his feelings for Katrina. This book is very spicy, but like I feel like it’s with good balance of a storyline that moves.! I feel like there was a good amount of mystery of why they broke up, but I feel like that is resolved pretty early in the book, where the rest of the book kinda of deals with the fallout of understanding why they broke up in the first place 10 years ago. I feel like JD and Katrina have such great chemistry and are such great compliments to one another that I feel like they definitely should’ve been together for all of this time!
I would recommend this book to people who love book series with siblings , girls who love a second chance romance, lovers of the “it’s always been you,” trope, people who love books with dogs in them, and folks who love a vocal and attentive man in bed.
Just when I thought the second book in this series stole my heart, here comes JD and Katrina giving me all the freaking flutters! 😍 Don’t get me wrong—I still adore Waylon and Bianca (from book two), but there’s just something about a grumpy JD that does it for me every single time.
What I loved most is how Katrina brought out a softer, more laidback, and even playful side of him that not even his brothers had seen before. Their connection felt so genuine—full of fiery chemistry, yet also layered with understanding, healing, and growth. Watching them slowly find their way back to one another after so much time apart was truly rewarding.
On top of the swoons, this book had me laughing out loud more than once. The witty banter between Nana and everyone else was comedy gold, and then there’s Bubba—the adorable, yet absolutely ridiculous chocolate lab. Let’s just say if butterflies are anywhere in sight, they don’t stand a chance. 🦋😂
This book also reminded me why the Stryker brothers are chef’s kiss—always comforting, protective, and deeply supportive of their women. And while family drama continues to stir things up in this series (let’s just say some parental figures really tested my patience 👀), it only made me root harder for JD and Katrina’s love story.
And the spice?! Baby, listen. It’s always the serious ones who surprise you with that free, passionate, and all-in energy behind closed doors. Whew. 🔥
Audrey Vaughn delivered yet another heartfelt, hilarious, swoony, and spicy installment that has me even more invested in this series than I thought possible.

ARC Received (Thanks BookSirens) for honest review
I’ve read the previous two books in this series and fell in love with the town of Jepsen and the Stryker boys. However, this book fell a little flat for me. We met JD in the previous two installments and knew he had a tainted past regarding relationships. In this book, we find out that JD dated Katrina a decade ago and broke her heart. In the process he broke his own and never recovered. Katrina has returned to Jepsen after going through a nasty divorce and putting her life back together. She’s working at the new physical therapist center and living out of her car. In walks JD and everything is flipped on its head. He offers to let her live with him while she’s looking for a new place to live and let’s just say she never left. My issue was that I never connected to either character which made them feel a little underwhelming to me. Kat’s relationship with her mom a decade ago would’ve given a lot more perspective as to why Kat felt the way she felt. The things that her mother put her through as a concept was horrible especially how she meddled in Kat and JD’s relationship when they initially dated. I just wanted a little more from that storyline. Finally, JD’s relationship with their father was always one of strain. I picked up on that in the previous books. I love that JD finally grew a backbone when it came to John David the 3rd and put him in his place, I wish we could’ve gotten that full conversation instead of it cutting to Katrina. Mt only issue is that it felt like the end was a little bit too rushed. Overall, it was a solid read and I really hope Ash (and Jada) get their book.
Thank you Audrey Vaughn for this gifted eARC in exchange this is my honest review.
Pour Decisions by Audrey Vaughn is a wonderfully written second chance romance that I loved.
Katarina is just divorced and returning to Jepsen as a physical therapist. Her first client? Her ex from ten years ago who broke her heart in a way she couldn’t forgive. JD never got over Katarina and when he finds out she has been forced to live in her car, he offers his home to her. With her reluctantly accepting, JD doesn’t want to let her go. When he finally reveals why he broke up with her, it changes everything. As their fire rekindles will they be able to just stay roommates? Or will they become more once again?
Vaughn creates a beautiful second chance romance. Neither character is someone that was left for a red flag reason, it was truly something that was beyond them. JD is so thoughtful, protective, and kind, and Katarina is so bubbly, kind, and genuine. Both have relatable problems (family) and it’s the root of their issues not each other. The writing was captivating and drew me in. I loved watching them grow and support each other’s growth. I was actively cheering for them to succeed. Each step they took together delighted me. And Bubba! Ahh! Love a butterfly eating dog! I love a fun, cute pet.
Overall, I rate Pour Decisions 5/5 stars. What a fun, optimistic, second chance romance that I’m glad I was given the opportunity to review. Buy or pre-order Pour Decisions by August 18th, 2025.
I enjoyed the first book, and loved the second book in this series, but this one kind of fell flat for me. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it, I did, I just wish there was more.
I feel like it was a bit rushed and I didn’t feel the chemistry between JD and Katrina like I did with the twins and their relationships. I could feel a bit of the chemistry before they got together and towards the very end when everything came out about why they broke up in the first place. I wish they would’ve spent more time getting to know each other again before sleeping together and hopping into a relationship again.
JD is a very serious, stern character, and has been through this whole series. Seeing his mental battle when it came to his dad, I understood more why he was the way that he was. However, I wish we got to see more of that soft and playfulness from him.
Katrina was very relatable when it came to her relationship with her mom, it’s complicated and she wants to believe that she’s gotten better, only to show her true colors and learn that her mom really is just jealous of her own daughter. She’s got a sense of humor, but I wish we got to see more of her personality and learn more about her.
I am excited for Ash’s book, probably because he goes against his father at every turn and I love a rebellious character. I think it’ll be interesting.
Tropes: 🐶Second Chance 🩺Forced Proximity 🐶Grumpy x Sunshine 🩺Doctor x Patient
Thank you Audrey for this ARC! My first arc of hers and I wanted to start in the beginning of the series. So it took me a few more days to catch up on the first two books and then read this one.
I loved JD and Kat throughout the book. I’ve loved each book in the series but this one might be my favorite. I loved seeing them grow into who they become by the end of the book, different from over ten years ago when they first met. In this book, they’re rebuilding their relationship and we see how much they’ve changed. JD in previous books always felt closed off so I was always curious about him and wanted to see him in his element. I loved the spicy scenes, to see a different side to JD, flirty and in control! To finally see him get a second chance warmed my heart! Kudos to both of them for working on their relationships with their parents, really standing up for themselves. I was clapping in my seat! I wish I would’ve seen more on Kat’s past and how her relationship with her mom was throughout the years more. We def got the feeling it was rocky but how she handled that last conversation, ooh, I was like yessss, you go girl! I wish the ending was a little bit longer, to see their future laid out more, go a bit more in depth after that last conversation with JD and his dad. Overall, still a cute second chance love story!
I cannot wait for the next book, hopefully Ash’s and low key I def think him & Jada have something going on, cannot wait to find out if my suspicion is right..
Katrina and JD have been separated for 10 years, but meet up again once she moves back to Jespen. For JD, Kat has always been the one for him, and no other woman has compared to her. Kat and JD meet back up when she becomes his Physical Therapist.. Kat is reluctant to give JD another try or to be in general, but after she gets kicked out of her house by some uptight old bitty landlord, she’s got no choice but to take him up on his offer.
JD comes across as uptight and lacking a sense of humor to others, but Kat knows him well enough to know that under all of that brooding exterior, there is a funny and kind guy. Kat is funny but a bit guarded. Both characters are still attracted to each other.
I found myself chuckling and laughing while reading. The overheated electric socket scene was hilarious. This is the 3rd book of the series, and I started with this book first. Now I’m going back and reading the 1st two with his brothers, Wes and Waylon.
My only thing is that I thought the ending was a little abrupt. I would’ve loved to see a bit more once they moved past their issues and surprise villains, and HEA. However, that didn’t take away from the overall story, and other than that, everything else flowed..
I recommend this book if you want to see a man fight and stand up for his woman (repeatedly) and if you love to see a Black woman loved down properly.
Second Chance It’s always been you Black FMC🖤 No Third Act break-up HEA Spice 🌶️
📚✨ ARC REVIEW ✨📚 Pour Decisions by @audreyvaughnbooks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25 (4.25/5 stars)
Thank you to Audrey Vaughn for a free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Katrina, a recent divorcee, has returned to Jepsen, TN, to work as a physical therapist. Her new client? JD, the man who broke her heart ten years ago.
JD has always regretted letting her go. When he finds out Katrina is living out of her car, he offers her a place to stay. Desperate times call for desperate measures… and suddenly, the exes are roommates.
Now that she’s back in his orbit, JD will do anything to keep her there. When Katrina learns the real reason he broke up with her years ago, everything shifts, and the sparks between them are impossible to ignore.
I really loved that the angst here came from outside forces (family drama, controlling father) instead of the romance itself. JD and Katrina complement each other beautifully: he’s serious and grumpy, she’s sunshine and laughter. He makes her lunches, takes care of her car; she lightens his world. No wonder they fell in love before — and why it feels inevitable again.
If you’re craving a lighthearted second-chance romance with heart, this one belongs on your TBR! 💕
For fans of: ♻️ Second Chance | 🌞☁️ Grumpy x Sunshine | 🏠 Forced Proximity | 💔 Lovers → Strangers → Lovers | 💘 It Was Always You
Pour Decisions by Audrey Vaughn is the third book in her series featuring the Stryker Family. Pour Decisions is JD’s story and gives readers the opportunity to learn more about the brooding and responsible older brother. The title of each book cleverly gives a nod to some aspects of drinking. JD has been seen/mentioned in all the proceeding books and readers sensed that underneath his crustiness was a measure of pain and regret. Those feelings are tied to his former girlfriend, Katrina. Katrina was the love of JD’s life and the source of his greatest regret. With little warning or explanation, JD broke up with Katrina and broke her heart. But now after ten years, Katrina returned to the small town of Jepsen and works as a Physical Therapist. What are the odds that the estranged lovers will reconnect when JD needs treatment for a back sprain? Does JD have a reasonable excuse for his actions and if he does will it be enough to make up for ten years of doubts, anger and feelings of abandonment? Ms. Vaughn ably uses tropes of proximity; second chance and opposites attract to create a mature and compelling love story. While not much older than his brothers, JD presented himself as being both thoughtful and loyal and Katrina was a perfect complement to him with her sweetness and compassionate nature. I look forward to reading Ash’s story and I have good guess as to the identity of his leading lady!
I was so sad that this book ended! I looked down, it said book complete, and I was never the same. Shockingly there’s a bit of mystery to their breakup (this is a second chance romance) that I wasn’t expecting but enjoyed. Having read the other two books in the series I do feel I was slightly more connected with JD, but honestly, not a lot. You could definitely read this as a standalone and Vaughn does a GREAT job of not spoiling the other books in the process of making this one😭. Do I love the parents by the end of the book? No. But that’s warranted and you will see why. I feel like Katrina’s story was a little rushed just in the fact we never really talk about her past relationship she just got out of, but that may be just because she truly didn’t fall in love with him the way she did JD. And that’s kind of beautiful, and also shows how life can bring you a crazy path to the same person. But yes 5 stars. The spice!!! 5🌶️ only because the yearning that JD had for Katrina was fantastic. Even though they knew they would be great together it was fun seeing them fight it. Wasn’t a super slow burn for it to be 228 pages and I can appreciate that. The only gripe I had with was that the epilogue is only one pov and there wasn’t a second one…I literally just wanted more🥲
Thank you to BookSirens and Audrey Vaughn for this Arc Copy!

**ARC READ** Immediately after finishing this book, I wanted to start it again. I’ve read the other two books in this series and was super excited to see JD’s story. As always, I enjoy Audrey’s storytelling. She makes it hard to put down the book. I love Katrina and JD’s dynamic. JD is a character who’s known for being stoic, so it's refreshing to see him be soft and very nurturing to Kat. The pacing of the book is really good as well. The reason for their first breakup and the reconciliation didn’t feel rushed, and it also didn’t feel drawn out. I love how when push came to shove, JD stood ten toes behind Kat and helped her gain the courage to confront her mom. That is one storyline I would have liked to know more about. I wish I knew more about what happened to Kat’s mom and specific things she’s done that caused the strain in her relationship with her daughter. That jealousy Kat’s mom feels towards her is a bit underexplored. On the opposite end, we get a good look at JD’s relationship with his dad. Seeing him try so hard to be good enough for his dad and later realize that would never truly satisfy him is such a canon event. I love that he was able to mend his relationship with his dad while also forging his path forward. The epilogue is the cutest thing ever. Overall, this book is a fun time, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
This story gave me all the warm, small-town romance feels! At its heart is a second-chance love story between two people who couldn’t be more different—but who bring out the best in each other when they’re finally brave enough to face the past. JD is the grumpy, closed-off ex who once shattered her heart, and she’s the sunshine who walks back into his world unexpectedly. Circumstances (and a very persistent Nana who always seems to know best!) force them back together, and what starts as tense and awkward slowly turns into tender and healing. Bubba, JD’s loyal and lovable dog, steals every scene he’s in and becomes the glue that pulls them closer than either expected. I loved how the couple balances one another—her warmth softens his rough edges, and his steady presence gives her the safety she’s been searching for, especially with all the family drama swirling around. Even when JD promises nothing more than friendship, he never lets her go without, always showing up for her in ways that count. This book is packed with witty banter, heartfelt moments, and just enough drama (thanks, Mom!) to keep the pages flying. If you like grumpy/sunshine tropes, second-chance romance, meddling but wise grandmothers, and dogs who deserve their own fan club, this one will have you swooning.
A story about second chances, setting boundaries and being open to change. JD, from Wes’s story, is the eldest Stryker son and works for the family’s business. he’s up next to having the top position in the company while at the same time he is described as someone who is very grumpy and serious. Then we get to meet Katrina who has dated JD in the past and has came back to their small little town in Tennessee.
We get to know more about the dynamic between JD and his father, JD and Katrina‘s relationship and how it crumbled apart 10 years ago and a little glimpse of what’s going on with the other couples.
As a reader, you get to see how both main characters are able to communicate together, but also how they communicate with their family. There are similar similarities and differences.
Now it wouldn’t be the Stryker family story if they weren’t any animals. Bubba is such a treat and the way the author would describe his personality and movements are so realistic.
I do wish we got to know a little bit more about Katrina‘s past relationship and what really transpired, but I did like that the main focus was on Katrina and JD.
I received and ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
First off , I absolutely loved it. I found some minimal editorial things, but the story flowed well. The character development was robust. I’m a huge fan of the updates that we glimpse from previous stories; however I love even more that anyone could pick a book up and read it out of order without being confused.
I was always a fan of JD because of how stoic he appeared to be and we learn that there is so much more than that meets the eye. I applaud Ms. Vaughn for giving us a male character lead that in no way repeated the same mistake twice. He was unapologetic about who he was but he was also willing to embrace changes if it led him to HEA. We love an emotionally available lead!
As for Katrina, my gut churned for her during the interactions she had with a narcissist for a mom. That type of relationship is always seemingly hard to capture but the interactions conveyed everything well. I was immediately impressed with Katrina because she thought things through but like her second chance love interest- she had zero intentions on repeating her mistakes.
JD and Katrina have a chemistry that is unmatched! Go ahead and get the series, it’s a decision you will not soon regret!
