After a chaotic summer that nearly broke her, Izzy Brown is ready to play it safe. No more corpses, conspiracies, or near-death experiences. Just Christmas in New York with her best friend Elton Jones-Davies, her wonderfully dysfunctional family—and zero drama. That is, until an infamous ex–NFL player is stabbed in The Bronx, and the world turns upside down.
The victim? Mustang Jones—Elton’s estranged father. The suspect? Pretty much everyone. From angry investors and spurned lovers to bitter former teammates, the line of people who wanted Mustang dead stretches from Manhattan to Pensacola. But with Mustang in a coma and the police going nowhere, Izzy does what she does best—she starts digging.
As the case grows colder and the pressure builds, Izzy begins to unravel. Haunted by guilt, burdened by secrets, and slipping into habits she swore she’d left behind, she risks losing more than just the truth. Because some damage can’t be undone—and sometimes, the truth destroys more than it saves.
Set in 2009 during the Great Recession and the first wave of the opioid epidemic, Brother Island is the fourth book in the Izzy and Elton Mystery Series.
Chad Alan Gibbs is the award-winning author of Two Like Me and You,The Rome of Fall, and The Izzy and Elton Mystery Series. He lives in Auburn, Alabama with his wife and two sons.
OMG Chad has done it again but honestly I thank god Elton broke up with Kari because she was not a good person at all and all she wanted was to go to Harvard it wasn’t that she loved Elton and all she did was make his family bankrupt so now Holly Elton’s mom is struggling which I find sad but I don’t know Ruby was the suspect of the whole thing too things in this book were wild and I suffered a lot reading this because I knew Kari wasn’t a good person from day one but Elton didn’t listen to Izzy and it all blew up in the end Mr Gibbs has never failed me with this duo I love them truly and I can’t wait to see them back in 2026! AHHHHHHHHHH IM SO EXCITED THAT THEY’LL BE BACK!!!!
Brother Island is the fourth installment in the Izzie and Elton series by Chad Alan Gibbs. I enjoyed the novel’s fast pace and plot buildup. The challenges Izzy faced while investigating Mustang Jones’s attack triggered a relapse of her opiate use, as well as brought up the question of whether her investigations are worth the emotional trauma. In the second part of the book, Izzy’s relationship with Elton and treatment of other characters led to what seemed to be the beginning of personal maturity and emotional development.
The author did a commendable job in this latest addition to the series, and I am looking forward to the finale.
Wow, Elton is making some really questionable decisions on his own. Kari is the absolute worse. I only wish Izzy would have properly put her in her place instead of putting up with it as often as she did. Kari was written so well that I wanted to reach into the book and knock her senseless.
If there weren’t a note at the end of the book, I would have thought this was an ending to this duo. Overall, this was a super fast read for me. A fine addition to the series.
