The case of the Dysterdal Avalanche has been closed, but police officer Mira Lind just cannot let it go. There are too many things that don’t add up, and she is determined to find out what actually happened. But to do that, she needs someone who knows the area like the back of his hand, a man who was there the night of the disaster.
Stian Nyberg cannot believe his ears when the tiny woman tells him she thinks the tourists he left to die might still be alive. If there is any chance she is right and he can make up for that night where his best friend died, then he will take it.
The only member of the Dal Vakt not recently mated, Vedlun, is drawn to the human couple he is supposed to be keeping from Heimli. As both seem eager to help him relieve his frustrations, he is finding it hard to do his job, though not for lack of trying.
But with people comes technology and this time, as history repeats itself, Heimli’s worst fears are realised. As helicopters swarm and hearts are broken, is there anything Mira can do to right her wrongs and save the Hidden Folk?
"While she is cooling balm, he is the fire that warrants it."
Mira cannot stand without knowing what happened to the girls during the avalanche so she set out to find Stian, the tour guide. Together, they embarked on a journey to find the truth and that's where they met Vedlun, the troll.
I am here to continue this series until the author got tired of it!
I was so ecstatic when the author revealed the cover because we gonna get a throuple! I was really excited on how the author will create this story.
Now ~
We know the male characters. Stian was the tour guide in the first book who left to pick up something, so he was not there on the event and Vedlun was one of the hunting trolls too who kept the women safe.
We got to know more Vedlun in book 3 and he came on arrogant and over-the-top but that's just because he cares a lot. With his ex being saddled with a human woman, he got no one, so I understand.
Stian, on the otherhand, he really didn't cross my mind until this book. He was dealing with grief and guilt being the sole "survivor" of the avalanche. He's carrying the weight of the world and coping in bad ways.
Mira was a great addition to this series. She's fiery, she's strong and knows what she wants and gonna get it. She's a police officer who wanted to seek the truth (see what I did there).
One thing or maybe two things that really didn't work with me was how they met Vedlun. It was an interesting plot choice which I didn't expect. I just kinda brushed it away to keep going with the story but it gave me the ick. Once I got the ick, there's no going back. It just didn't resonate with me.
Another thing was the decision made by Mira near the end. Another plot twist. I wished she groveled and did asked everyone for forgiveness considering her actions had very dire consequences that affected everyone. And I mean, everyone.
I did love seeing cameos of the previous characters. I am always a fan of found family and those girls embodies that trope.
This book just opened up the Hidden Folk more and I love it despite the circumstances surrounding the event.
Did this book meets my expectations? I guess. Will I continue on this series? Absolutely. I am looking forward to the librarian meeting his match!
Since reading the first book on the Falling for the Hidden Folk (Adjusting Focus), I've been invested in how this magical world of the Heimli Valley will fare once they're discovered. I have enjoyed the first four books, in which we see the avalanche that crashes into the lives of these four women from each of their points of view, and the Trolls that save them. But also, how each installment of this series exposes hidden elements of this mythic valley.
Now, with this fifth installment, the plot thickens, and the truth is exposed to the world with dramatic consequences. I see this installment of the series as the dramatic inflection point.
We finally get to see what happened to the humans who were affected by the original four women's disappearance after the avalanche. This book touches on unresolved grief and how, through connection with others, one rekindles the desire for both truth and love, which then leads to breaking the walls between the world of humans and the Heimli Valley.
It also explores a different type of relationship that breaks down expected roles, surprising the characters themselves, leading them to reimagine their identities and make quick life-changing decisions from the heart.
I hope that in the next installments of this series, we get to see how the relationship between Vedlun, Stian, and Mira develops. Because within a short period of time, a lot got packed into this book, and I found myself wanting more space within the narrative to follow what was unfolding for these characters. Mainly because at times I found their encounters, threaded by lust, rage, and shock, too sudden, making me, as a reader, struggle to take in and ride along with their big emotions.
Another theme this book highlights is the topic of the Other, as in immigrants and refugees, and the inhumane position that many governments are currently taking around the world. At its core, I felt this series, but in particular this book, begs the question of who is really the 'so-called' monster.
(This is why I am fascinated with monster romances, as it's an exploration of our Shadow.)
While this book focuses on how humans approach the mythical creatures of the Heimli Valley, it draws a clear parallel to what we're unfortunately witnessing in our daily news. It was both unexpected and emotionally challenging to read, as it hit too close to home for what I'm seeing in my own country.
Nevertheless, I appreciated how it wove this theme into the story, giving us hope that folks with their hearts and minds in the right place will do what is necessary to make compassionate change in our 'real world.' Stories matter and can help us imagine a better world, and hopefully, inspire us to act accordingly.
I look forward to how this series will unfold because this book has definitely broken the story wide open, and many possibilities are now up for grabs.
✨️ Dual Timeline is one of my favorite components of a series, and sometimes can be challenging to recreate over multiple books. With this one, I was delighted each time to discover the subtle over various POVs. This time we entered a new shift, as we meet Mira, Vedlun, and Stian!
The mystery of the missing people still linger in the air, even with the case being closed. Mira can't help but wonder what happened, and throws caution to the wind as she journeys to the area to discover why. She meets Stian first, a man torn up by grief over the incident for different reasons, and forms an alliance with him as they travel into the mysterious mountains together.
Hidden Folk aren't the only thing they discover. Desire, doubt, and comfort build a home between these two as stories are exchanged. Then they run into Vedlun, the grumpy troll who meets them in a rather steamy and unique way. Conflicted feelings arise between all of them, leading to a whirlwind of emotions as both humans are swept up into the Hidden Folk world. I was surprised to see some the answers to things I had questions on, and relieved with an unexpected ending.
Mira isn't able to forget the four missing women, who disappeared without a trace after the avalanche. Sent on holiday from work early, she heads over to Dystersal, to find out what exactly happened to them. On her journey she finds a grieving Stian, who's still not over the loss of the women and his friend and together they head out to seek the truth. What they didn't expect was stumbling across a troll and an entire hidden valley.
Oh boy, with Seeking Truth, Ella Larson delivers her spiciest and wildest book yet. All three MCs have amazing chemistry, even if the two MMCs don't start out on good terms. Finally the Hidden Folk is out in the open and there's some serious action going on around the revelation that the creatures who have been pushed back into fairytales aren't just lore at all. I'm very excited to see what will happen next in Heimli after it's secret has been revealed.
Thank you to the author for the free e-ARC! This is my honest review!
I absolutely adore the Falling for the Hidden Folk series and I think this might just be the hottest pairing yet! I love that we now get to see Vedlun get his mates since he has gotten to watch each one of his friends be mated. Mira and Stian are the perfect fire and water to Vedlun and I'm very much looking forward to seeing them bloom along with the rest of the pairings we have gotten to meet over the last four installments.
The timeline continues in this series and I utterly cannot wait to see what else gets brought to Heimli Valley! I love this beautiful world and am intrigued with how the humans integrate with the new hidden town having be exposed!
