You’d better watch out.

Christmas was always Ada Kimball’s favorite time of year until an attack by a masked stranger left her struggling to leave her isolated cabin. Now, holiday cheer is the last thing on her mind. What’s there to be merry about when she’s stuck at home with only her nightmares to keep her company?

But she might not be as alone as she thinks. Texts, gifts, and sudden appearances of seasonal decor point to someone who won’t let Christmas go by uncelebrated. A secret santa stalker who won’t leave her alone.

He’s there, even in her twisted dreams, which reveal desires far darker than sugar plums dancing in her head. A masked monster who makes her tremble with fear, and ache for more.

Will Ada's holiday dreams come true, whether she wants them or not.... or will this holiday season turn into a nightmare?

He Sees You When You’re Sleeping is a spicy dark monster romance between a plus-sized woman trapped by her past and the masked monster fed up with being only her nightmare.

Read the content advisory before you start, because while this book has all the heat you know and love from Emily and Kass, these two cozy authors are embracing their darkness this holiday season.

➸ holiday monster romance
➸ masked golden retriever monster
➸ wants her happy at *any* cost
➸ mental health rep.
➸ am I scared or turned on?

Last year Ada was mugged by masked stranger and now she's struggling to leave her cabin.
Seth is a dream spirit and Ada's literal nightmare. He played different roles in her dreams for years, but after the incident she made him a villain and he stuck just like that. Now he wanna know how he can transform from Krampus to her secret Santa? He's trying to cheer up his tormentor so she can let him live in peace like he used to.

This story is a great balance of sweet, spicy and fun. Though authors tried to "embrace their darkness" in this book, it's not dark at all (or maybe I'm too spoiled). However, I liked the writing and how cute the story was. Also, it's a big plus for me when authors put mental health rep in their books, I adore this trope. The relationship between the MC remind me the exposure therapy. I'm so glad for Ada that she found the strength to get on the way for healing.

Seth is such a cutie patootie! He is the best monster ever, GIVE HIM TO ME IMMEDIATELY! He decorates her house, gives her gifts, make her snowmen and bakes cookies. He is so innocent, vulnerable and a little bit awkward.

There is also a good amount of spice scenes (not too much, just enough) with some kinks. And of course our mmc has ✨unique monster dick✨

If you're looking for a sweet monster stalker this Christmas, I highly recommend this book!

This book started strong. I loved the premise, and the first couple of spicy scenes were 🔥🔥🔥🔥.

Unfortunately, it fizzled out for me and I found myself struggling to push through to the end. And honestly—that’s on me. I went in expecting the book (and the MMC) to stay dark and dangerous throughout, when in reality Seth is much more of a sweet, golden-retriever, teddy-bear type.

So while this one wasn’t for me, it absolutely could be for you. It just didn’t hit what I was craving at the time.

This little fever dream—err nightmare was EVERYTHING. The authors knew exactly what they were doing because this story grabs you by the throat, kisses it a little, and never lets go. Quick, unhinged, spicy in all the best ways, not a single wasted page.

Our FMC Ada is painfully relatable. A woman scheduling herself into oblivion just so she doesn’t have to sit still long enough to replay the mugging that wrecked her life and the identity theft that followed. Anxiety gremlin energy for sure. Hermit mode fully activated. Queen of “if I never sleep, nothing can scare me.”

Enter Seth… her nightmare-coded menace of a sleep-paralysis demon. He is supposed to drift between dreamers like a good little cosmic employee, never sticking around long enough to catch feelings. But the problem is … yeah… he’s obsessed. Her dreams keep building him into the perfect monster, and he can’t stay away.

Then the incident hits, and suddenly her dreams are nothing but masked terrors hunting her across the astral plane. And because he can only appear in whatever form she gives him, my man ends up permanently glued into a mask, pissed off, protective as hell, and very done with watching her spiral.

So what does this brooding dream-god do? Attempts to give her the warm, soft spirit of Christmas. Gentle. Healing. Wholesome.

Naturally, she has… other plans. 😏

This story is absurdly original, full of twists, stuffed with spice that will melt your peppermint bark, and genuinely funny in that “why am I cackling at 3AM like a hyena?” type of way.

If you want a spicy, unhinged, monster-boyfriend holiday quick read with cozy undertones and a premise so good you’ll reread it out of spite… this one’s your next treat.

What really made He Sees You When You’re Sleeping work for me was the characters. The heroine feels vulnerable without being weak — she’s aware something is off, curious even when she shouldn’t be, and that mix of fear and fascination felt very real. She doesn’t instantly accept what’s happening, but she also doesn’t run from it, which made her reactions feel believable instead of frustrating.
The MMC is… unhinged, but intentionally so. He’s obsessive, watchful, and deeply fixated, yet there’s an emotional undercurrent to him that keeps him from feeling one-note. I liked that he’s not softened too quickly; his intensity stays intact, which keeps the tension high and the dynamic uncomfortable in a way that clearly meant to be uncomfortable. Their interactions are charged, intimate, and often unsettling — but that’s the point.
The pacing around their connection works well, even if a few emotional beats could’ve gone deeper. Still, the character dynamics carry the story, making the creepiness feel purposeful instead of random.

Can a monster be pitch black and also a golden retriever? You’ll have to read this diabolical novella to find out.

Virtual assistant Ada has been essentially housebound since a mugging left her traumatized and with her identity stolen. She’s plagued by nightmares, which have become increasingly er0tic, featuring a masked daddy who is somehow bl33ding over into Ada’s real life.

What can I say about Seth without giving away the plot? He’s fallen so hard for Ada in the dream realm that he’s manifesting himself into her waking hours as well; he’s also furious about it, which translates to him employing some aggressively dominant - and dubious - behaviors toward her.

The dilemma then becomes how this pair gets to an HFN when one of them isn’t fully part of either realm… It’s an inventive, sensual journey that puts its FMC and the reader through the proverbial wringer.

I received an advance reader copy from the authors, and I’m pleased to share my honest review.

Your worst nightmare is a golden retriever stalker 👀. That’s one way to say what this book is in a nutshell.

Christmas came early and here I am finally meeting the monster who has been stalking my dreams. This book was something, I wouldn’t say it was like mind blowing or addicting for me to read (coming from how I took my sweet time with this book) but I will admit I did got into a reading slump from this book. At least I finished though so I feel accomplished 🥳.

The pacing of this book can throw you off in the beginning. Although I will say it does pick up over time where it does feel enjoyable. I really liked the chemistry between the FMC and the MMC. I mean who doesn’t want a hot monster fulfilling your fantasies in your dreams and making it a reality 😉.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity on reading this ARC.

So I also DNF at 80%!

I tried to give it a good chance but it's not my style of writing. FMC was annoying and kind of a space case. Also, why was politics/ "right wing" brought into it? And OMG 😱 he's got a gun/ he's "alt right" (authors words) so of course he's got a gun. Idk maybe I shoulda done my research on the authors before I signed up... that's my bad! I was excited for this book but it was a let down!

DNF @ 13%.

I don’t mesh with the writing and we are kinda just plopped into the middle of the story. The characters are bland. Idk how words on a page can come across as condescending but they do.

Sorry, I really wanted to like this.

3.5 ⭐️ This was... ok. Also, kind of weird tbh.

So, this is mostly about a world where dream monsters are real, and they basically subsist on human dreams. They can tell the "taste" of them, to the point where one particular dream being name Seth becomes obsessed with the taste and experience of one particular human, Ada.

From there, we can see the story from both POVs, which helped a lot. Ada got mugged about a year ago, which sent her into a spiral of depression and anxiety that doesn't allow her to leave her remote cabin in the snowy woods.

From her creepy neighboor Tom, to her clients, and extremely conservative family, we see a lot of Ada's life outside of her dreams. Actually, for most of the book, she's awake, which is cool because my biggest fear going into this book was that it would be a relationship only in dreams, or something like that.

Overall, not the best Emily Antoinette that I've read, but still pretty interesting!

An unfortunate DNF

I was really excited for this, but was so bored with Ada's long-ass monologuing that I was just skimming all her paragraphs. I found the whole 'dream' realm thing so confusing, too. It's a creative concept (once I finally understood it), but I didn't get why it became so sexual all of a sudden when she had been dreaming of him for an entire year already.

100/10 cozy meets spooky nightmare monster vibes! I honestly can’t believe the authors were able to balance the two seemingly opposite tropes in this perfect story! Ada is my girl and the MMC is everything I want in a spicy romcom!

As a romance and thriller reader, my standards for twists and turns in a story to not be predictable are pretty high, and He Sees You’s twists and turns kept me glued to my kindle till the very end!

If you’re looking for a cozy, spicy, christmasy story with a side of darkness - this book is definitely for you!

This isn't my favorite book from either Kass O'Shire or Emily Antoinette. It's slow for the first third, the second third picks up and feels like it could be a conclusion to the story, and the final third feels a bit disjointed from the rest of the book, but was a nice redemption for the MCs together and individually. I think Seth's spiral was wicked fast and came on suddenly, and a lot of Ada's pov felt, unfortunately, repetitive. I absolutely adore the anxiety representation here, but her character fell one-dimensional for a lot of the book for me. I almost soft DNFd around 40%, but I decided to try just sticking it out.

I've been so looking forward to He Sees You When You're Sleeping since it's initial announcement, but I truthfully feel a little let down. I'd still read any future potential books in this world, but I think I'd go in a little more reserved than the feral goblin that started this read.

ARC review
Ada was so anxious and had debilitating PTSD, which led to her being physically and emotionally isolated. I related so hard to the panic attack experiences she had and talked about, because it can feel like you’re in mortal danger. They’re fun like that. Seth was dealing with his own semi-self-inflicted torment from spending too much time in Ada’s dream as her nightmare, and isolated himself as a result. His attempts to make things better for her didn’t pan out quite as he envisioned and he carried a lot of resentment for Ada’s unmanaged PTSD. They both learned some measure of self acceptance and developed trust in themselves, each other, and friends.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: choking, consensual degradation, blood and violence, discussion of murder, implied threat of gun violence, kidnapping (not by MC), stalking, breaking and entering, negative self talk, religious trauma, misogyny (from side character), PTSD from mugging, panic attacks, agoraphobia, Sexual scenarios that could be interpreted as having dubious consent (though both characters consent to the best of their ability), somnophilia, threats of sexual violence, alcohol as coping mechanism

“My princess has grown up. She doesn’t need sweet, gentle Seth now. She needs her monster.”

Imagine that after being robbed, you develop a deep trauma that makes you isolate yourself and suffer from nightmares every single night—always with the same masked monster. But something changes one Christmas. You start receiving gifts, your house wakes up covered in lights, snowmen appear in your yard, and more. Terrifying, right?
But what if you discover that the one behind all of this is the very same monster from your dreams—and he’s not trying to torment you, but to make you happy and help you heal? So what do you do? You fall in love with him and end up spending the best—and hottest—Christmas nights together.

Thanks to the authors, I received the ARC, but due to a reading slump I only managed to finish it recently—and it actually helped me get over that block.

At the beginning of the story, I did find it confusing to understand how he was literally a nightmare but also lived in some kind of dream world. That concept confused me quite a bit during the first part of the book. Also, Ada’s trauma—while I understand that being robbed can leave you scared and deeply affected—felt a bit too extreme at times. I get that she didn’t seek help because of her past experience with a psychologist who tried to implant false memories, but even so, it felt somewhat exaggerated to me.

That said, the idea of him being a nightmare who lives in the dream world reminded me a bit of The Sandman, and I found it really interesting. I just wish the authors had explored that concept more—getting to know the world better and fully taking advantage of such a cool idea. I would honestly love to see more books set in that universe, with other nightmares or dream-world characters.

Seth completely stole my heart. He’s the classic giant bear who’s actually a teddy bear on the inside. Just imagining him, huge, in a kitchen baking cookies is ridiculously cute. The way he wants to make Ada happy, how he’s known her since she was a child and used to play “princess” with her—slightly dangerous territory considering how their relationship ends 😏—and the way he calls her “Princess”… I love him.

Ada was fine for me. I didn’t fall in love with her, and I didn’t always like her because she could be hysterical and sometimes indecisive, but considering everything she goes through and how she grows by the end, I think she was a solid protagonist. That said, Henry was my favorite character. A total lazy boy, but when it came to protecting his owner, he didn’t hesitate at all—absolutely adorable.

As for Tom, I honestly did not see that coming. At first, I pictured him as a kind elderly man who helped her with groceries and looked out for her, like those sweet small-town neighbors. Even when I realized he wasn’t actually old, my impression didn’t change much—I thought maybe he just had a small crush. So that reveal was a complete 180 for me: from friendly neighbor to disgusting stalker. It felt a bit abrupt, to be honest.
Also, the psychologist’s reaction—basically “Oh, okay, a monster”—was like… what? I know she was already aware of their existence, but it still felt way too casual and underwhelming.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

Obviamente, te aterras, ¿no?

Seth me enamoró.

Ada me agradó.

⭐️ARC REVIEW⭐️ (4.5⭐️)
A collaboration for all the monster dark romance girlies, and a little holiday cheer to spice things up! I dream demon has had his eye on one person for as long as he can remember, constantly pulled into her dreams playing all the roles of friend, prince, villain and now her true nightmare. After Ada experiences a mugging she is afraid of going outside, my heart broke for her desire to overcome this fear and see her family and live her life. Meanwhile her nightmare replays and her demon is forced to take part, even when he doesn't want to see her cry. UGH this was also gut wrenching because knowing how much it hurt him to be her nightmare but also wanting to be there for her in any way was so bitter sweet. So when things become a little more real, when decor gets put up and music starts playing things get spooky in the best way! With discussions of mental health, consent, body issues from both MCs and the sweetest old man doggo Henry, this ironically felt like a warm hug - with a little extra bite to it!

I wanted to love this book so much. I was so excited when I was selected to be an ARC reader. However, it just didn’t do it for me. I considered DNFing it multiple times but stuck it out so that I could give a fair and honest review of the entire book. I realize now that my review honestly would have been the same though. Ada, the FMC has been through some trauma, so I totally get her having anxiety and everything. However, her having a panick attack every other day was getting old. How many times are you going to say you need a therapist? Either get one or don’t, but quit talking about it. That bit was so repetitive. It took me a while to figure out the whole dream realm thing, but it did make sense once everything was explained. So, that was a fun and creative concept on the writers part. The whole situation with the neighbor Tom annoyed me though. So, after Ada found out that Seth was real and that she had someone else to rely on, Tom became a right wing, gun yielding, sexist, creep? Interesting.. because he was none of those things when Ada needed to rely on him to get her groceries….

I came for the masked demon and stayed for the trauma bonding!

I really enjoyed this story. I love a spooky vibe but I’m kind of a Scrooge until mid-December so this really helped bring me in to a more jolly mood but in its own special way! Mainly with a 7ft tall dream demon in a mask!!

God I love Seth so much! He was so dark but sweet and I loved how he cared for Ada even through a very extreme situation. I was unsure how to feel about his motivations in the beginning but as I learned more I was able to become obsessed with the scary little (not really) cinnamon roll! His powers were so cool and I would love to delve deeper into dream spirits and what led to their creation. His friends were also interesting and I hope we see more of them in the future.

Ada was the anxious, chronically online queen I needed. Jokes aside her story was so powerful. As someone who is often at the mercy of others due to being physically unfit I often wonder what I would do if placed in dangerous situations. Ada was a look into that and I can honestly say she was relatable in that way. Her religious trauma and how that affected her views on herself and men was so relevant to today’s social ecosystem. She is a character I think a lot of women will relate to, in both good ways and bad.

The story was fast paced and chaotic. I enjoyed that because there wasn’t too much I had to stop and digest. The hard stuff was emotional but I just felt the need to read on and see how it got tackled. The couple was so hot! I love the way Seth uses his powers during sexy time and the spice overall was well distributed and once again REALLY HOT!

(That’s what I actually rate it, Goodreads just doesn’t do half star ratings)

Ok, HELLO!!!! I could not put this book down, it was so good. I was literally reading on my phone all throughout the day (waiting for an elevator, standing in line for lunch, when eating my food). It was just…I don’t even have the words. I highly recommend this book to anybody who’s looking for a plus sized, dark romance, with dark (and kind of kinky 😏) characters who can also be cute and funny. Also, there’s a dog!!!! Who can pass that up?! I love the writing style that @Author Emily Antoinette and @Kass O'Shire have together. I was also lucky enough to receive an ARC from them for this book, so thank you again for choosing me to be one of the first to be read your book. Want the perfect mix of mystery and monster romance?! Look no further. He sees you when you are sleeping is a masterclass in subverting a classic horror genre and giving it a cosy romance vibe.
Ada is crippled by anxiety and living off the grid as a Virtual Assistant. She was mugged a year ago and is still piecing her reality back together. Life seems to be getting better even if every night she’s plagued by a terrible nightmare and in the mornings it appears her sleep version has been doing quirky things around the house. And let’s not get started on her overbearing next door neighbour. No sir do not call me sweetheart!

This story is a pretty short but it packs a serious punch. A lot of story goes on in not many pages but it never feels rushed and everything has its place to perfectly unwrap this mystery for the reader.
I adore our MMC and his unusual appendage. He is the true sweetheart of this cosy monster Christmas romance!

This was my first "darker" monster romance, but I trusted O'Shire and Antoinette to lead the way! And I'm glad I did. This is a great holiday monster romance, especially for the girlies and theys etc who like it a little bit darker. Ada is just trying her best to survive after being mugged the year before, and Seth is willing to try anything as her dream monster to make her happy again. Things gets a little twisted and tested, but the HEA is definitely worth it! I would love to read another novel co-written by these two!

Thank you so much to the authors for the arc!

This was a new spin on a Christmas book and I am here for it. Dream Seth turned masked nightmare got too attached to human Ada, and now he is stuck as her nightmare until she removes the mask. Ada struggles with anxiety after being mugged in Boston, never leaving her secluded cabin. Seth takes it upon himself to try to make her happy, by decorating her house, making cookies, and playing with her dog. Meanwhile her neighbor Tom is being a little too neighborly and had to come to the rescue.

STOP I LOVE MONSTER ROMANCE SO MUCH

I've read SEVERAL of Kass O'Shire's works before, so I was definitely familiar with her game. This was??? phenomenal??? Seth was a SWEETHEART which is so funny because he's a LITERAL nightmare man.

Give me a protective MMC any day (i wanted to kick tom's ass myself!!!!). And sweet Ada and her anxiety and agoraphobia was so relatable and written in a way that was REAL without being too over the top or cheesy.

UGH. I hope these two partner up for MANY MORE MONSTER ROMANCES in the future!!!!!

I was lucky to receive this! and I loooved it! its not common that I can connect and resonate with FMCs but I really did connect with Ada due to the mental health representation that the authors did brilliantly! I actually connected with both MCs! I looved seeing Seth fall for Ada, I loved the whole concept with dreams too. the spice? was fantastic too! it was cosy but also spooky? the MMC was beyond morally grey BUT was still a golden retriever? the vibes were IMMACULATE. to deliver and execute such a hybrid of vibes, personalities and such depth within these characters and every detail is just a testament to how well these authors worked together and how talented they are! Not many books take me by surprise anymore but this one did and I enjoyed it all!

thank you so so much🖤
