I'm actually quite the neat freak and decluttering is some sort of hobby of mine. Therefore even though I enjoyed the read I'm not really the target group for this book. I did find good tips and ideas, though, and I find Marie-Anne Lecoeur so refreshing, both on YouTube and here through the written word. On to "How to be chic and elegant"! :)
Marie-Anne Lecoeur wrote this book like she was talking to me as a friend. Her advice on how to achieve and maintain a tidy closet is simple, practical, and to-the-point. Also very motivating. She essentially provides a clear pathway for how to get from a disaster zone of a closet to one that is tidy and satisfying. She also includes a bonus chapter on classic wardrobe essentials to have in one's closet. She says that having these essentials will make getting dressed and looking chic much easier, helping one to save time and effort. I followed her advice, and she is so right! I also loved the little section in The Tidy Closet called "Use Your Best." She writes, "Instead of 'Sunday best,' why not 'Tuesday best' or 'Thursday best'? Let's aim for 'every day best.' Make every day special enough to wear your best clothes and use your most precious accessories. This will make you feel extra special and chic. Why not look and feel great every day?" Yes! Thanks to what I've learned from Marie-Anne, I've donated my excess or unsuitable clothes and wear nice garments whenever I go out, even if I'm just to go to the store to buy a bag of cat litter. Having an organized closet, following Marie-Anne's guidelines, is essential for dressing ourselves with awareness and care. The results are fantastic.
Personally, I am an over-organizer and neat freak. I didn't read this book for me. I read it as my sister is the complete opposite of me and has asked my help to organize her apartment. I truly don't understand people who are messy (although my husband is!) and didn't want to overwhelm her with changes she couldn't handle or understand. This book helped me see her perspective and gave me quite a few ideas about how I could help her organize her clothing (she's a big Rennie) into a system that works for her, not me. Now, I have a lot of approaches that should help her get organized and stay that way without having everything fall back into a disaster.
Useful information. Worth the kindle price. Ms. Lecoeur will walk you through wardrobe evaluation, decluttering, cleaning and organizing your closet and then help you examine your clothing to create a classic wardrobe. Thus book takes you from mindless bargain hunting for whatever’s in to truly curating your closet.
I've worked with Lecoeur on several things to do with clothing, the closet, and eating and her recommendations have always worked for me when I've followed her instructions. I'm looking forward to working through the challenges she puts forth in this book so I'll have a beautiful, sparkling kitchen afterwards.
This did provide the push I needed to get my closet in order and motivation to keeping up with it. Keeping my closet classic and timeless only added to the elegance of my closet.
My closet is not a terrible mess and I purge regularly. However, I do still have some issues, so I purchased this book. I’m glad I did! There are lots of things in it which have helped me, including the wardrobe basics and some storage ideas.
I loved Marie Anne’s first book and this one doesn’t disappoint. Some great info and inspiration that O needed to kick me into gear and sort out my wardrobe
I hate clutter so the ideals in the book appeal to me. I am constantly trying to perfect my clothes organization. I will definitely use the suggested tips.
I thought it was going to be more about organizing your wardrobe in terms of what to buy and wear to help you be more stylish and less cluttered but it was more about straight up organization (ie: put shoes in a shoe hanger.) Still a bit helpful though in terms of giving you the motivation to actually organize your closet and later your house. Liked all the tips on what to do / how to purge your stuff when you tend to keep clutter around.
The writing is very unengaging. It's a book filled with lists. The only good advice I got out from it, is to visualize (close your eyes and imagine) the closet you want (clean, tidy, uniform) and to take a picture of what your closet looked like before and stick it in your closet. To me, that is the most sensible, effective way to have and maintain a tidy closet.
I think the idea behind this book is a good one, however, I skimmed most of it because it seemed like filler. A lot of saying the same thing a bunch of different ways. That being said, I have since cleaned my closet and it is quite lovely!
So much practical information and tips, straightforward and easy to understand and implement. Plenty of very motivational words to get you thinking and organised. You will be so pleased you followed Marie-Anne advice. I'm glad I did.
