Felt too....messy and all over the place. The author kept forgetting details about the characters - and the prior scenes - so it got confusing because one second, a character didn't know something, and then the next, they knew the whole time. It was contradictory, like the author changed details as the story progresses but they forgot to go back and edit/change the details.
It also was emotionally redundant. FMC and the MMCs ALL had insecurities that was repeated over and over. It added to the word count but I feel half the scenes were unnecessary and didn't move the point forward, or were needed. The author said this book started out as a novella and honestly, I believe that.
Also, the author told but didn't show. How can you tell us these men - these rich, powerful men that have the fucking police in their pocket, more money than god, and thought of hiring mercenaries - couldn't find one, mousey man? A man that had no real power, was stupid as shit, and had ZERO resources and assets like they did to hide from literal mercenaries and personal guards? But he was able to get close to the FMC twice without issue. It was a ridiculous storyline used to get the FMC to have to live with the alphas and trust them faster.
Not for me. I only finished it because I enjoyed Brooks and Evan. Even Brooks though pissed me off. The author made him seem like this OBSESSED alpha that would do anything for her. But he took 3 years to approach her because he didn't fuck employees?? Let her believe he was mated and never thought to correct her or, at least, speak on his future intentions? And he let the poor girl drown in debt, wear winter coats that didn't keep her warm, stalked her by watching videos - from cameras he bugged in her room - and gladly watched her do yoga while he gooned to her, but couldn't buy the girl a new pack of socks when he saw on the same video her socks got holes in them? It was very, "She's Cinderella, she is poor. Poor poor poor. But she's hot and I don't care that she's poor. So poor she has holes in her socks. But still, so hot. Did I mention she's poor?"
I liked Gunner but the dd/lg did not feel like it was researched past surface level from the little we got showed. Just felt like kink randomly thrown in.
