(3.4) This is a collection of stories so bear with me.
Before the Dawn: This was has the cutest couple, but the way they get there had me rolling my eyes into the next decade. Also, that whole 'Christians shouldn't sue other Christians' thing. No.
On the good side, they're the cutest and the statement she says about husbands/wifes and taking care of the house is A++.
Recommended 13+ for stupidity, , and romance.
Light to My Path: Cute. We see new characters and we get to see more of the people from BtD.
Recommended 12+ for an unmarried pregnant girl, stupid people in a scary situation, and the love-at-first-sight trope.
Stars in Her Eye: This one is pushing it. Hard. A Christian actress in the 1870-1910's in the west? Doubt it. All the secondary characters (besides the family of the other two stories) are freaking melodramatic.
However, I do appreciate the deaconess (even though it's historically inaccurate) and the moments of connections the two MCs have.
Recommended 12+ for Creepy dudes (theater was Vegas back in the day), and mentions of premarital sex only admitted by hinting at it, nothing explict.
3.5 These three novellas I tried because I wanted to read something by this new-to-me author and this is all there was at my library. The first one was good, the second ok, and the third was a stretch. I kept going because first, they were set in the state I was traveling through and, two, because the novellas each include the same general characters so it wasn’t a traditional novella. I think this author has real potential in a full size novel.
I have enjoyed everything I have read by this author, including these three books in one. All three are connected - the first two about brothers - and the third about their pastor. I liked all three, but probably liked the first one the best. I find books where the hero or heroine overcomes a handicap - like David becoming blind - inspiring.
The cover "blurb" reads: Watch as God lights the way of love, despite the resolve of three Colorado men. A collapsing mine shaft made David Mackenzie blind and bitter, but Karen Worth will not give up on her unconditional love for him. Disillusioned by love, Sam Mackenzie reluctantly escorts a jobless and homeless Eldora Carter plus three orphaned cross country. And just when that challenge seems too overwhelming, an avalanche descends. . . . Pastor Silas Hamilton falls for Willow Starr, an actress bound for New York City. But he’s fairly sure the love between a pastor and an actress could never survive. . .could it? These three historical love stories really made feel as if I was there in the Rockies, in the 1800's. You can tell that Vetsch really cares for her characters in the way she presents each one as singular human being with flaws and foibles as well as many good qualities. I recommend it to any one who likes to read believable stories of the founding of our state and nation.
An outstanding trio of vintage Colorado romances flavored with pungent inspirational messages from beginning to end. Consider this a story collection begging to be read and enjoyed, over and over and over again!
I enjoyed this book so much. I liked the continuation of the lives of the main characters. Each story was interesting and loving. This book is a must read.
I love historical fiction and the west and the time around 1880- all included in these three books. We get to travel, learn about mining and even the theater. Fun
