Synopsis:
Clarity:
Her world has always been dark, but he might be able to change everything...
Fiercely independent Helen Winters was born completely blind, but she vowed never to let her disability keep her down. She did not expect a traumatic event to devastate her life and force her to drop out of college. Disillusioned by the cruelty of people, Helen retreated from society to live by herself as a reclusive writer in the woods--where no one could ever hurt her again.
When a brilliant young doctor shows up on her doorstep, promising her that his new research can give her the ability to see for the first time, Helen stubbornly refuses. She has learned not to trust anyone, and to rely only on herself. But Dr. Liam Larson will not take no for an answer. He makes it his personal mission to rescue Helen from her loneliness, and bring joy into her world once more--the joy she has denied herself for so long.
When Helen's demons come racing back into her life, threatening to rip her apart and destroy the strength she has carefully rebuilt, Liam is the only one who might be able to save her. Can he reach the broken girl in time, helping her to heal and see the world in a different light? Or will Helen's grief send her spiraling out of control, lost to him forever?
Clarity 2:
When violent memories come racing back, he is her only hope...
Helen Winters was living a lonely existence when the charming Dr. Liam Larson coaxed her out of solitude with the promise of healing her sightless eyes. She was hopeful at the prospect of gaining vision for the first time and being reunited with her family. She was also growing somewhat fond of the persuasive young doctor. For the first time in years, she was being magnetically drawn to a new friend...
Then everything came crashing down.
Plunged into a hellish nightmare, Helen is forced to face the same evils she ran away to escape so long ago. She is unprepared to have her hopes crushed and her peace destroyed. She finds herself living in constant terror and drowning in fear--and Liam's voice is the only thing that can keep her afloat. His comforting touch becomes the only light in her pitch-black darkness. Helen has always been a tough girl who relied only on herself. But this time, she can't survive alone. Due to the horrors of her past, Helen has promised herself not to trust anyone. When her life becomes unbearable, how can she trust Liam enough to let him save her?
Clarity 3:
After many years of darkness, Winter never thought that she'd be happy or safe again. Her whole world changed when she met Liam Larson, a charming young doctor determined to be her knight in shining armor. When a brutal night unleashes vicious reminders of her past, Winter must struggle to hold on to the little bit of happiness she has found.
When everything begins to fall apart, Liam's strength and kindness might not be enough to save her. Battling with the betrayal of her family, terrifying nightmares, and frequent reminders of her enemy that make daily life difficult, Winter's first instinct is to run away. She is tired of being the victim and living in a cruel, crowded city where she doesn't feel like she belongs.
But Liam promises her that if she only trusts him, he can change everything. And that's exactly what he attempts to do, starting with an operation to heal her eyes, and then her heart...

Title: Clarity-Complete series Author: Loretta Lost Rating: 1 star for the first 10%? POV: first person heroine HEA: Heat/Steam N/A Cliffhanger: . Yes. Intolerable Heroine .No. Über Douchebagery .No. Taboo Subject Matter .yes rape. Cheating: Love Triangle
Sorry but you lost me at when the heroine tells her sister the man she's about to marry is a rapist “You just told me he raped you.” "Yes, but... it’s not complete rape. I want to have sex with him most of the time."
Oh and when she tries to tell her something even worse about him:
Are you kidding me!? I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. I know these things aren't coming from the heroine but still! I thought this was going to be a story about a young woman and her struggles with being blind and eventual curing of her disease. Add some romance and this would have been the perfect story. But there was more manufactured drama, unoriginal plot twists, and random acts of violence that completely took away from the story.
To top it all of I skimmed to the end and there's no real ending! It leaves things unanswered and with their relationship and well in question. What the heck was that? I actually had to double check to make sure I was actually sent the whole series. Is that really how their book ends? It was just ridiculous.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Absolutely loved the first one, liked the second one, and the third one didn't give me any feelings, or really anything to me.
A tragic plethora of events leading to a fantastic twist at the end, but the foreshadow was just that: a foreshadowing full of promise. But promises are broken, shadows are just figments of imagination, and everything can be solved with sex and hysteria.
Hmm.. this book (series) had so much potential and was not without interest, BUT, there were just to many "WHAT???" moments. You know those really unrealistic, unbelievable situations where you're just like "REALLY???"
For example, how Helen is so afraid of her past rapist, but yet still lives with him. AND never discusses this with her sister (rapists-wife) or father. I CAN'T buy it. NO, not ever. And if my sister did marry the man who raped me, I certainly NEVER EVER would live in the same house with him. The family had money... she could have moved into an apartment. The only reason to keep her there was I guess to create a situation her prince could rescue her from... but even with that said, why did not said prince talk her into moving into her own place???? Again- not logical.
And again, after she miraculously regains her sight, she REALLY doesn't want to see her father and sister???? No, I can't buy that either. I don't care how angry you are with them, if you've been given the gift of sight for the first time ever in your life, you're going to want to at least see the people you've loved and are related to.
These 3 books are fantastic. Brilliant storyline, gripping, didn't want to put it down. Wouldn't recommend the newly released book 4 tho, so recommend you book Clarity complete 1-3.
This bundle includes all three books in the Clarity series, which is great, because the cliffhangers at the end of the first two books don't have the power to make you insane anymore. No waiting time to find out what happens.
Book 1:
This book has been quite a surprise in many ways and definitely different than I expected. But man, was it good.
I was expecting a very angsty, gloomy and dark read and although "Clarity" offered some of it and covered very serious topics, it didn't weigh me down and make me feel sad and depressed. Due to the often sarcastic and cynical inner dialogue of Helen and the sweet, endearing and hilarious banter between Liam and Owen, it was more often than not light-hearted, relieving some of the tension brought on by the heavier moments of Helen remembering her traumatic experience.
Helen, a blind girl leaves society behind after trusting the wrong person and experiencing something so traumatic, that she loses all faith in humanity. She starts a life in solitude, following her passion for writing. Amazingly, she doesn't wallow in self-pity and doesn't despair. She accepts that this kind of life is the only reaction to her experiences that she can handle. She tends to shy away from any human interaction, believing the only thing others have to offer are either pity or pain and she does not want either in her life. I found her to be extremely strong and resilient. Her reaction, though extreme, was understandable in her situation. And everyone deals differently with trauma. Her way is to not get caught up in emotions that could end up betraying her.
That is until her solitude gets interrupted by two doctors, Liam and Owen, who want to convince her to be part of their research, giving her the chance to see again. While Owen is straight-forward and honest, bordering on being rude, Liam is polite and patient, yet persistent. Not only does he want to give Helen the ability to see again, he is also extremely fascinated by Helen. Definitely, not one to give up easily, he isn't fazed by her initial cold shoulder and doesn't give up. I found him to be inspiring and heart-warming. He was gentle, yet didn't treat Helen like a child. He patiently coaxed her out of the confinements of her solitude, joining the living again. He helps her realize that her solitude did nothing to help her get over what happened. All it did is keep her from experiencing life.
As the three of them spend more time together, Liam and Owen manage to get something from Helen that she hasn't given anyone in years - trust. And it was captivating to see that happen. The way she let down her guard around them and allowed herself to feel happy was amazing. It definitely was hard not to smile when witnessing Owen's lighthearted monologues and his banter with Liam. Those two immediately won my heart. The interaction between Liam and Helen had those incredibly tender undertones, full of restrained longing and attraction. And though contrary to my expectations there was no sex between Liam and Helen, this book couldn't have been better. It was a quick read, but it didn't feel like anything was missing.
What made this book very different from other NA reads was the lack of visual description. With Helen being blind, we don't get to find out how she looks like or how handsome or hot Liam might be. Moving beyond this superficial knowledge, we instead get a much more lasting and tangible impression of situation - the smells, the atmosphere, the emotions and thoughts, the sounds. And it works. It doesn't matter how anyone looks like or what they were - they touch your heart and steal a bit of it by who they are on the inside.
Liam says at some point that "Book are medicine for the soul. They heal the eternal parts of a person." This is such a book and it's a book I wouldn't want to miss.
5 engaging-the-senses-and-the-heart stars.
Book 2:
Clarity 2 picks up where the first book left off and throws the reader into the turmoil and despair that Helen is experiencing. Her life seemed to allow her some goodness and beauty, just so it all could be consumed by darkness yet again. And with everything that she is confronted with, there is enough darkness to go around. Her life is turned into a living nightmare and not for the first time - but this time it isn't just her safety that she fears for.
It'd be easy for Helen to just give up and run back to her solitary life. There are moments when this is all she wants to do. But she always finds the strength to carry on - the strength that is buried within herself. Sometimes it is the fighter within her that coaxes the strength out of the deepest parts of her soul. Other times she needs a bit help from Liam - a gentle push in the right direction. And it is her trust in Liam that allows her to accept his guidance. Just like in the first book, I found her character nothing short of amazing, strong and admirable. Her ability to smile despite all the darkness and her willingness to dare to live a new life despite her long seclusion and the evil that lurks nearby earned my deepest respect.
And so did Liam. This guy truly proves himself to be the definition of a good guy. He doesn't treat Helen like a child or like she's inferior because of her disability. Yet, he knows to give her the right support concerning the horrors of her past and her different needs because of her blindness. His creativity and deep understanding of her personality allow him to find the right ways in order to help her to keep going and to not give up. He knows how to push her just enough without asking too much of her. He believes in her more than she believes in herself and he has no qualms about letting her know that. He isn't hesitant to show his growing feelings for her and God, is he sweet and sexy doing so. It's impossible not to crush on him.
They manage to get close and to acknowledge their growing attraction to each other. Even though they have known each other for a short time, there is no denying that they are meant for each other. Just as their lives seem to be turning towards happiness, the darkness threatens to ruin everything yet again.
This book is amazing. Again, the lack of visual descriptions is refreshing and allows to focus more on the emotions. This enabled me to fully live in the story. Live in it so much, that the cliffhanger at the end nearly broke me into pieces. Thankfully, I had the third book already waiting for me.
5+ fighting-against-the-darkness stars.
Book 3:
Jesus Christ, just when I think Loretta Lost's "Clarity" series couldn't get any more breath-taking, she accomplishes just that with book three in the series.
You know it's going to be a perfect read, when the book starts out with words, sentences, paragraphs full of poetry and emotion. Loretta Lost has a way with words, a talent to create such intense stories, that her books can bring you to your knees, make your heart ache and your soul fly. I felt incapable of anything other than just laying my bed and thinking about the story I just read. Holy wowzers.
This book picks right up where book two ended on one hell of a cliffhanger. We're confronted with Helen's fear and inner turmoil. And it is nothing short of heart-breaking. For page after page I was holding my breath, fearing the worst might have come true. How Helen manages to stay sane is beyond me. But it seems after this tragic situation, her life is starting to lead her down a good path. One that brings love and happiness. Rightfully, after all she has experiences she is wary, often waiting for the other shoe to drop. But eventually she takes the plunge to experience life more fully - despite everything that is in her way. As in the books before, I adored her. She's such an incredibly strong female character. Not flawless by any stretch, but extremely self-aware and likeable. When her happiness is again put at stake by the danger of losing the things she just allowed herself to embrace, my heart broke for her. I was sobbing so badly. If anyone deserves a break, it is her. No doubt. How she can still love and forgive is beyond me.
Liam is there for her through thick and thin and although his behavior seems a bit off at times, he is always attentive, sweet and caring. He seems like a prince - always there to either save Helen or help her save herself. He so easily fits the role of the knight in shining armor. But not everything that glitters is gold and some princes have a frog side as well. And when it is revealed that there is more to Liam than he has shown us or Helen, I wanted to strangle him with my own hands, right before cutting off his family jewels and feeding them to rabid dogs. The pain, disappointment and betrayal that Helen felt, I could feel too. But I must admit that when it was tearing Liam apart to realize what he has done, I wasn't crying just for Helen anymore.
Reading the last few pages to find out if Helen and Liam lose everything were nearly unbearable. I stayed up late and woke up the next day with bloodshot eyes and a bird's nest where my hair used to be. And it damn sure was worth it.
The end was amazing. Not a cliffhanger, but open enough for me to supply the details. I loved that.
5+ not-letting-me-sleep stars.
Three great books in one bundle. And the next book is better than the former. This is and will be one of my all-time favorite series.
Clarity is a raw and gritty romantic thriller that beautifully highlight what we easily forget from day to day. People are not always what they seem, and too often we find a hideous evil cloaked behind a benign and appealing face or touch. The goodness in this world is often hard to catalog and even harder to behold with any certainty. The only thing we are left to do is to take a chance, and pray like mad that we haven’t blindly given the devil the key to our very soul. In contrast when we find a piece of pure and unadulterated Heaven, all we can ever do is open our arms and heart to it and cherish every second we have it in our grasp.
This book is a testament to the determination of the human spirit to thrive and truly live despite having its wings clipped by insidious intent. Nothing encourages human beings then to watch another be knocked down and find the will to stand back up and continue searching for the light of hope and the strength of love. While this can be a difficult read at times, I found that is never failed to encourage and whisper calming sentiments to my heart. The characters were wonderfully complex and held my attention captive every step of the way. There was truly never a dull moment to be found. Fighting to reclaim the tatters of her life, we watch as Helen/Winter blossoms into a beautiful and challenging woman who calls only the most pure to her shattered heart who never fail to color her world in every vibrant emotion and experience that we often take for granted.
Beyond any doubt, this is a series that you will not soon forget. It will crawl under your skin and burrow itself into your soul. You will feel its very soul as it weighs on you like a veil that is begging to lifted and yet leaves its own quiet scars behind. Never underestimate the effect that you have on the lives of those around you. Your actions and words shape their world in either a positive or a destructive way, so please remember that what you send out into the world will be returned to you and then magnified as it is reflected back. Send out love and peace and hope, and then sit back and watch it returned to you in ways you could never imagine.
Don’t really know how I feel about it. I really liked all the descriptions and what the characters were feeling, but a lot of the dialogue was almost a little immature.
Helen is been blind since she was born. She gets raped in college and runs away from civilization, not having any contact with her family. She gets approached by two doctors, Liam and Owen, and they convinced her to come with them to the city because they have a new treatment that might make her see. She also contacts her sister and finds out she’s getting married the next day. Except she winds up finding out her sister is marrying her rapist. And her sister knows that he is a rapist but still feels that he’s better than being alone!
There’s a lot of crazy things that happened in the story. She does get her sight back, she falls in love with Liam, but then also gets betrayed in the end. There’s a lot of back-and-forth between how she feels about her family and in the end she winds up running away like she always does. There is an ending to these three books, however, there are two more books with her and Liam, but I doubt I’m going to purchase them. Paying over $6 more dollars for 300 more pages of likely crazy ups and downs isn’t my jam.
"Ultimately, this series just wasn't my cup of tea."
Kindle bundle collected on March 21, 2017 Page count: 601 Ratings Book 1 (3 stars) / Book 2 (1 Star) / Book 3 (1 Star) Bundled Books 1-3 (1 star)
Overall, this series about a blind heroine's struggle to overcome a tragedy (unrelated to her blindness) that changed her life was incredibly disappointing. The premise was intriguing, but the author made plot decisions that just didn't make sense to me.
Spoiler Alert -
Honestly, I was so bothered by the heroine's sister and her behavior in book 2 that it overshadowed my interest in how Dr. Liam could help the heroine regain her eyesight and help her readjust to being sighted even if only temporarily or permanently.
I skimmed my Kindle copy of book 3 to find out how it ended since I only had books 1 and 2 in audiobook format (my preferred reading format). Unfortunately, I won't be reading books 4-5 or anything else written by this author. But every reader is different. So, if you like high drama, then this series might be your cup of tea.
An AMAZING story that really needs to be made into a movie!
Action, Suspense, Romance and Mystery with a dash of Comedy all makes for an incredible read... I literally could not stop reading once I started!!! Loretta Lost has a way that brings characters to life, she has me thinking about the book every second I am away from it!
What Helen went through breaks your heart, but watching her grow and become stronger throughout the story gives you hope... hope that anyone can overcome any obstacle. When first introduced to Liam and Owen be prepared for some really funny scenes.... I have to say that I hope to see more of Owen in future books... that guy cracks me up. :)
These books are funny and heartwarming.... A LOT of laugh out loud moments.... and then she had me balling my eyes out.... I was hooked from the first page! Loretta Lost isn't just a writer..... she is a Word Artist! A+++++++++++++++++++++++
I had read the first book in the series a couple of years back and liked it (gave it 4 stars). So when the set of 3 of books were available, I was excited to see how the story continued.
I still enjoyed the first book when I re-read it, although maybe not as much as I initially did. But I thought the concept was cool and was looking forward to seeing how Helen (and her eye sight) progressed. I also thought the storyline with Grayson was pretty terrifying. Book 1 and 2 were pretty decent, but book 3 just dragged on and I found myself skimming through the last quarter of the last book.
I wanted to like Helen more. I felt like she was a little whiny/childish at time, which I guess I would have expected differently (the "nobody could ever love me" routine gets a bit old). I hated her sister (which I think you're supposed to). I don't know how Helen trusted Liam after that 'reveal' in the third book (but also expected it, since she kept thinking how good everything was to be true) and then her not mentioning her eye sight issues -- seriously? You have these doctors at your beck and call, their work is based on helping people with her exact condition, and she just didn't want to say anything? I'm not blind, but I think if I was and I had the chance to see, I'd want to hang on to that chance as long as possible. That last scene when she was driving along the road and couldn't see b/c of her eyes/the weather, I just wanted to smack some sense into her. And how much time was spent at the end --- I understand "he's a doctor," but maybe she needs some additional medical attention and a hospital.
The next book continues the story, and while I'm not really that interested in what happens, I do enjoy stories about memory loss, so if it was free, I may give it a read (which, btw, I only knew about by reading the synopsis of the next book -- the end sort of ties things up enough for me).
rather than try putting books in a 'not interested' folder, I'm going to claim I read them and give a low rating. Putting in not interested, the algorithm seems to think I like the book.
Very good story lines I these books, so glad that Winter got her site back but thought it was a cruel way Liam and her father went about it. Thank you for a very good read.
I have previously read the first book for review a while ago and just couldn't wait to get ahold of the next book. For some reason or another it was either the next books would come out a while later or I was broke. A short time passed and I had completely forgotten about this book. What did remain was how fantastic this book was and when I found my chance in getting a free copy for review on NetGalley for the whole set I was so happy I requested it and dove right into this book. Its as great as I remember even more so.
There is so much to say but hard to say it without spoiling the book. I absolutely loved the characters and loved the relationship of Liam and Winter. This is a fast paced book that'll keep you on your toes. Through each story you'll be thrown into a twist that you wont expect and just when you thinks are going to get better your thrown into another loops. And that ending! I loved it I wish I could talk about that ending without you but it'll be hard to do without spoiling it.
Trust me when I say to bump this to the top of your TBR list because your not going to want to miss this. I would recommend you get the complete set because when you read the first your gonna want to get straight to the next book to see what happens next. Highly Recommend!
This was an okay book that really could have been better. The characters sounded more like teenagers than a successful doctor and an author. I mean, come on, getting shot and then breaking a man's arms and no one calls the police and the doctor goes home and stitches himself up! If they were so worried about the shooter and how crazy he was about Helen, they probably should have done more to stop him.
And the car accident, let's just carry the injured woman to the car and sit them down and don't forget the seatbelt! What? No calling medics who have the proper equipment , you know, like a neck brace and a backboard to move an injured person into a waiting ambulance that will then deliver them to the hospital. But nope, trust him, he is a doctor and he says love is all is needed to keep Helen from dying. And wait there is more, but you have to get the next book in the series....NO THANKS!
I got this bundle from my Secret Santa and it is unbelievable! I’m so happy I got all the books at once because waiting to get a sequel will be a torture for me. I love the characters and hate them at some level too. This storyline makes me go through so many different emotions and it places me in an unknown reality. That’s what I love the most!!!
Clarity really takes you to a different space and Winter’s story is like no other I have read.
This story portraits the pursuit of happiness against all odds. It is the tale of a brave woman and a great example of unconditional love frame in tragedy and betrayal. It has it all!!!
This story is an assault on the senses as you experience life through the mind of a young, blind woman. Loretta Lost/Helen/Winter knows how to feed my pessimism in the relate-able resistance/hope of romance and life improvement and the relate-able fear of the two as expressed in her dialogue and her thoughts. This series is definitely a page turner, taking you just outside of your expectations. A thoroughly enjoyable read that leaves you wanting more. Thankfully the story continues in another series, End of Eternity, that I am looking forward to diving into.
I thought this series was great. only 4 stars because there was a bit more rambling than I cared for so it's really 4.5 stars. so helen is blind all her life she was brutally raped and from that was emotionally torn from tip to bottom so she left her old life behind to live a life of solitude until a Dr comes along claiming to be able to fix her blindness...he does...he lies..she flees again he comes rescues her again...cute love story entangled with in. the twists and turns kept me reading and wanting to know what's gonna happen next.
A story about a blind writer was enough to get my interest and I am glad I read the series. A love story about a blind female writer who are given the opportunity to get her eye sight restored. Excellent idea, unfortunately it is spoiled by too good to be true incidents as well as totally unaccepted behaviour by those who are supposed to protect her – who in their good mind will marry a guy who raped her sister?
Couldn't finish. I tried to stick with story but in the end I just couldn't. I love the whole idea behind the story, however, there were moments when nothing rang true - for instance why would anyone encourage a woman to stay in the same house as her rapist! Then not be there for her? No, just couldn't stomach that.
This gets 1 star because it could have been so much more.
I have not been able to put it down. I have read these in 3 days. i couldn't wait to find out what happens next! there are a few what the moments but those just help the story in my opinion. I feel like it didn't end on a stone note though. There are a few things that I wanted answered but there is a 4th book.
Somehow I ended up with book one as a free download and while stuck with a long wait in a waiting room I started and was hooked. An unusual storyline (I thought the main character being blind was so interesting). It was a fun read. I was invested in the characters and I happily gave it my full attention- now to find the next books.
I really loved this set of books. It was nice to see what could happen if your dreams come true. I like reading realistic fiction books and books about disabled people (no offense meant). I have a sister with cerebral palsy. Anyways, read this book and its sister books End of Eternity it's well worth it.
This was an excellent story filled with darkness literally (Helen's blindness) and figuratively (Grayson's dark, twisted heart)...and Liam was the light. Or was he?
Buying the Clarity series was the best thing I did great story and I didn't have to stop and buy to read 3 but now I will have to read 4 but it will have to wait till I have WiFi connection and hope I have money
I zipped through these stories and have to keep going. Lots of action. Love the flow of the stories. Love (and love to hate) the characters. Awesome author is Loretta lost!
Absolutely loved this three book series! Looking forward to reading much more by this author. I received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
