After reading LH Cosway's 'Quiet Love' series, I was excited to get Milly and Derek's story. I love a good second chance romance. Theirs was beautiful. It was nice to see all the favorite couples. I am happy we'll be getting more stories from this world and can't wait to read Tristan's next.

I am a sucker for any Persuasion retellings so when I saw L.H. Cosway was writing her own version with PRUDENCE, I was counting down the days until I could get my hands on it. This story was exactly what I hoped it would be and left my romance loving heart full.

The story has all the things I love: forced proximity, complicated family ties, and a romance that simmers with history and unresolved feelings. Both main characters felt mature, layered, and real, you can sense the weight of their past while watching them navigate the present in ways that tug at your heart.
I adored the family dynamics, the warmth of the community setting, and how the story showed that love can find its way back even when life takes unexpected turns. While I personally wished for a little more fire in the romantic tension, the emotional payoff was still deeply satisfying and left me smiling by the end.

A 3.5 star gentle, slow-burn, second chance romance set in an Irish town (I wish Goodreads allowed half stars as there’s a big difference between a 3-star and 3.5-star read for me).
We get to see the early foundations laid for the relationship between MCs Derek and Millie, an unlikely pairing but teens who recognised something special in each other. It was sweet to see the MMC’s tender care for the FMC… until life tears them apart.
The MCs were likeable, and surrounded by down to earth family and friends (I’m eager to read their stories in subsequent books in the series).
I enjoyed following their reunion and subsequent journey back to (rekindling and rediscovering) their love. It was realistically-portrayed, with the MCs grappling with the mature hurdles of parenting, working, managing exes and other family drama (without this being overdone or soapy).
I spotted a few basic errors, but am overlooking these given it was an ARC (hopefully picked up in the final proofread before publication).
My thanks to the author and Grey’s Promotions for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

Beautifully written as usual by this author. For the first few chapters the story looks back 18 years ago, following Milly and Derek aged 18/19, as they slowly morph from friends, to something more. There is heartbreak and they separate, which then leads the story into the present time when they are in their late thirties with their own families. They meet up again, and the romance is extremely slow burn with family themes going on as they navigate past their previous heartbreak. I found the story a tad slow at times, and did skim a little. (Maybe it's because I've been reading a lot of thrillers lately.) This story is very real and relatable with some steamy scenes. It's set in Ireland, which I enjoyed.3.5 stars.

This book was a very nice surprise for me! Is the first book I read by the author and I really enjoyed it, I mean, I finished it in less than 24 hours 🙂↔️✨ but I just couldn’t stop reading! Is fast paced and so easy to get invested in Milly and Derek’s story❤️
I loved how the managed to have their second chance after all that time and even when they both are raising teenagers on their own (I mean they all co-parenting but you know what I mean) I loved Deidre and Gigi’s friendship so much! And I love how the dynamics between all of them were so easy and organic because I felt like it was really meant to be for them to be a reunited and finding the family they needed ❤️
I’m now looking forward for Tristan’s book 🙂↔️

"Estar con ella me hacía sentir bien. Era como si nos entendiéramos instintivamente sin necesidad de esforzarnos" ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tenía muchísimas ganas de leer el libro de Derek y Milly desde que vi un poquito de su historia en los otros libros y quede enamorada de su bonita historia de amor que paso por tanto y al final pudieron terminar juntos.
Derek y Milly se conocen en su juventud y tienen una hermosa relación, el admitió desde el primer momento que llevaba años queriendo invitarla a salir porque ella le gustaba solo que nunca tuvo la valentía de hacerlo hasta que un día lluvioso le da la oportunidad perfecta para crear una conexión y viven una amistad hermosa, algo que me gustaba era que Milly tenía una personalidad muy tímida e introvertida razón por la que no le era fácil interactuar (y si me sentí identificada con su personaje) con las personas y decir sus sentimientos en voz alta y Derek nunca la juzgo si no que la entendió y hacía todo lo posible para que se sienta cómoda y el respeto que le tenía era algo muy bonito 😭♥️. Todo cambia cuando ella es rechazado en la universidad y toma la desicion de irse a otro país con su tia en busca de sus sueños y Derek decide armarse de valor y le pide matrimonio pensando que ella diría que si y vivirían una vida hermosa estando juntos pero termina con un corazón roto cuando ella lo rechaza 💔😭.
Años mas tarde Derek lleva una vida muy dura ya que desde que se separo su hija Gigi entro en depresión y el se alejo de su familia dejando de cuidar su aspecto y salud porque no sabe lidiar con las cosas que estan pasando con su vida. Milly decidió regresar a su casa para vivir cerca de sus padres con su hija y al principio se sentía mal por sus desicion ya que Deirdre no encuentra amigos hasta que conoce a Gigi y crean una amistad hermosa uniendo sus vidas nuevamente.
Yo entendí el rechazo que tuvo Derek al principio y si bien fue grosero se comprende sus situación porque el actuó desde el dolor y al darse cuenta que Milly lo rechazo solo para vivir lo que le negó con otro hombre le dolió cosa que cambio cuando volvió a convivir con ella y se dió cuenta que era la mujer que nunca dejo de amar y no se merecía ser tratada así, la relación entre ellos era muy linda como antes solo que ahora eran adultos y sabían manejar sus propios sentimientos sin sentirse influenciados por nadie mas que ellos. Yo odie a la tia de Milly porque fue tan egoísta con ella y la manera en la que la manipulo para que haga las cosas a su manera fue horrible 😭.

Derek cannot believe Milly is back. The one he never got over. Soon he discovers the truth about why. Now he and Milly need to rediscover each other and hopefully build on what they had. What a beautiful story of second chances!

I received this book as an ARC and could not be more grateful. From the first page, I was hooked; I picked it up this morning and finished it tonight, completely devouring every word.
Milly and Derek have stolen my heart. Their love story is raw and gut-wrenching, twisted by lies and heavy outside pressures, yet they remain unmistakably soulmates. Their connection is messy, beautiful, and impossible to forget.
The author balances aching emotion with perfectly timed twists, writing dialogue that feels lived-in and real. I laughed, I teared up, and more than once I had to take a breather and continue.
There’s so much more I could gush about, but I’ll keep it simple: read this book. Let it break your heart and mend it again. You won’t regret a single page.

Prudence is a gorgeous slow burn, second chance romance. It starts with Milly and Derek in high school and Derek is the one to fall first. I absolutely adored how these two came together. Derek was such a gentleman and I loved watching him put Milly first in every situation. Their friendship forms naturally and their love is pure and real. However, just when Derek thinks forever is in their future, Milly turns him down and moves away, breaking both their hearts. Eighteen years later, Milly finds herself back home with her daughter in tow and though everyone is happy she is back, Derek is not.
Forced proximity is one of my favorite tropes and this one is wonderfully written. There was no denying the pull Derek and Milly still have towards each other and even when Derek tries to keep his distance, he cannot. There are sparks with every look but it's Derek and Milly's daughters that really bring them together. Gigi and Deirdre became such good friends and basically make Derek and Milly spend time together. I love the girls (and Derek's son) and their personalities. They show us just how wonderful Derek and Milly are as parents and I enjoyed seeing how they faced the challenges that can come with raising children as single parents.
Second chance romances are right up my alley and this one is beautiful. They loved each other as teens but it's the time as adults when their love really shines. Even though they had heartache and pain, it brought them their children, and their love for their children is heartwarming. Derek and Milly as adults are relatable and I feel their love. It is full of growth and healing. There is understanding and forgiveness. They are mature and real, and I believed their love. It's slow burning but the wait is worth it to experience Derek and Milly finally giving into their feelings.
Derek's siblings, Nuala and Tristan, are great in this story and I can't wait for them to find their happily ever afters. I am so excited for the next book in this new series because I want more. I also loved seeing Rhys and Charli from Quiet Longing again.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it's a fantastic start to the Balfe Family series.

Prudence is a gorgeous slow burn, second chance romance. It starts with Milly and Derek in high school and Derek is the one to fall first. I absolutely adored how these two came together. Derek was such a gentleman and I loved watching him put Milly first in every situation. Their friendship forms naturally and their love is pure and real. However, just when Derek thinks forever is in their future, Milly turns him down and moves away, breaking both their hearts. Eighteen years later, Milly finds herself back home with her daughter in tow and though everyone is happy she is back, Derek is not.
Forced proximity is one of my favorite tropes and this one is wonderfully written. There was no denying the pull Derek and Milly still have towards each other and even when Derek tries to keep his distance, he cannot. There are sparks with every look but it's Derek and Milly's daughters that really bring them together. L.S. Cosway wrote Milly and Derek’s story in a way that I haven’t necessarily read before. For starters, this story showed Milly and Derek from the time they first time they met and shared a deep connection as teenagers, to the unfortunate “breakup”, and later reuniting as adults. This story also showed Milly and Derek as being both single parents, which made things a bit more interesting in terms of their children being mixed in with everything. There was romance, but in the way of illustrating finding your way back to your first love, and overcoming the obstacles faced before them. This wasn’t your straightforward romance, it was one that felt realistic especially when considering the family dynamics of each Milly’s and Derek’s.
At the beginning of this story, I liked the fact that L.S. Cosway included past chapters of Milly and Derek as teenagers. Often times, getting to look into the past can be really eye opening as well as reveal certain parts of a character’s story. Milly and Derek’s relationship as teenagers was sweet, endearing, and held a lot of that first love romance. Milly was a shy girl, but Derek always made sure to make Milly feel comfortable and happy whenever they were together. I also really loved getting to see Derek’s side of the story of him basically having always had feelings for Milly ever since she helped his brother on the playground when they were kids.
Derek and Milly’s romance wasn’t one that was over the top or about star crossed lovers, it felt like a realistic depiction of what I imagine some couples have faced before. Maybe not exactly as what Milly faced when it came to a certain someone playing a role in her not being with Derek many years before, but to some extent. As I made my way through reading this story, I found myself appreciating the way Derek and Milly eventually finding their way back to each other, even overcoming some roadblocks and clearing things up in order to be together.
Overall, I think this was a good book that showed a realistic relationship in which two people found their way back to each other. I also liked Milly and Derek’s daughter becoming great friends which was really sweet. Once Derek got over his whole being grumpy towards Milly, I could see the glimmers of his past younger self coming through to show how much he still felt so strongly about Milly even many years later. Teenagers rarely fall in love so early and have it stick, but it happens. Derek and Milly had a connection that was very strong but circumstances altered their future. It was the time away to grow, experience life and have successful careers that made their reconnection possible. The relationship is tentative at first, due to frustration and anxiety, causing them to move slowly but ultimately their kids forced another chance. Derek can be a broody alpha while Milly can be shy, but together they are crackling hot. The slow burn while they figured things out was intense. The Balfe series is a spin-off with characters from Quiet Love, Derek has a brother and sister so I’m excited for the rest of the series. I was excited to read an early copy and get my voluntary review out there.

Prudence is the first book in LH Cosway's new Balfe Family series. It's sort of a spinoff of her Quiet Love series (Charli and Rhys make appearances). Just like the Quiet Love series, this is a fantastic read! It's a slow-burn, but so worth the wait! LH Cosway has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Derek and Milly's story spans 18+ years, and I loved every single word of it! I can already tell that I'm going to love this series just as much (if not more!) as I loved the Quiet Love series! Highly recommended with way more than five stars!

This was a great childhood friends to lovers and second chance romance. The way these two found eachother and rekindled their relationship was so fun to read. Their teenage daughters becoming friends was absolutely precious. I loved this book and can’t wait to read book 2.

Prudence is the first novel in L.H. Cosway's Balfe Family series, which is a spin-off of her Quiet Love series but can be read independently of anything that came before it. Having said that, I must confess that because I had read--and loved--the aforementioned previous trio of books and knowing that this new set of stories were part of a spin-off series, my expectations were rather lofty. I tried to be prudent--see what I did there?--but experience has taught me that Cosway's writing never ceases to make me feel, and by the end of this new series starter, this second chance romance set mostly in Dublin and a bit in London did exactly that. It also left me wanting...wanting the next in the series as soon as the author publishes it!
When Camille O'Shea rejected Derek Balfe's proposal eighteen years ago, she knew all too well that she had broken both their hearts in the process. Now thirty-seven, Milly has made her way back to Dublin from London with her fifteen-year-old daughter, Deirdre, in order to be closer to her parents and for a new job as a lecturer at the University College Dublin's School of Medicine. Crossing paths with thirty-eight-year-old Derek is inevitable, but she wasn't quite prepared for his obvious disdain for her. Avoidance becomes futile when Deirdre's new best friend just happens to be Derek's fourteen-year-old daughter, Gigi. As much as the divorced dad of two wants to keep his distance, being around his first love makes him realize that his feelings for Milly never went away. Holding a grudge is one of my super powers, so I empathized with Derek. After all, rejection is a bitter pill to swallow, especially when it comes from someone you love. Weird as it may sound, I liked that Derek and Milly had to figure out how to, at the very least, be civil with each other, especially when it became clear that their daughters had become fast friends. The truth about everything that led to Milly turning Derek down almost two decades ago took some time to come to light, but I appreciated that, when they took stock of everything, anger and resentment weren't at the forefront of how it was received. There was a lot to love about this book, especially the fact that there was no third act breakup nor was their any drama from their exes. All throughout, I enjoyed every bit of Prudence, which receives 4.5 stars.

Oh my word, this story was so freaking great. I read this book in one day. I haven’t done that in a while. And I haven’t read this author in so long. I got totally hooked from the start to the end and didn’t want the story to end.
Derek had a crush on Milly O’Shea for so long, but she was so shy that he didn’t want to scare her off. But one day on his way home, it was storming and this was his chance. He offers her a ride home. What happens next is the best thing that ever happens to him. Slowly he gets Milly to spend time with him. I loved this story so much. I totally didn’t want it to end, ever. I got totally lost in Milly and Derek’s story. Milly was so my kind of girl. Shy, sweet and determined to make a success of her life. Derek, even though his parents were rich he was not that cocky, think the world owes him everything type of guy, he was sweet, sexy and so good for Milly.
When they reconnected, I wanted to just shake Derek and say, here’s your chance. Couldn’t get enough of their story and loved how their story started and how it ended. I am totally hooked on this new series, and I can't wait to read Tristan’s story 😊

I adored seeing their bonds with their kids 🥹 The writing, characters, setting, steam, spoce, and slow burn are incredible 🥹😈 All the characters and their sneak peaks have me obsessed, and I can't wait to read them 🥹 Tristan's book has me extremely excited!

This was such a beautiful second chance romance. I was a little worried that it wouldn’t end on a happy note but so glad they both end where they are the happiest. Derek being so torn and constantly at war with himself was so irritating because he was such a terrible person to Milly when she returned back home. But she stuck to her guns and he remembered why he never stopped loving her, even after all these years. If you like a good best friends brother, small town, second chance romance with a touch of spice…then you’ll enjoy this one!!

Prudence by L.H. Cosway is the first novel in a new series called the Balfe Family. This family was introduced in the Quiet Love series, and I have been impatiently waiting for them to get their own books! Prudence could definitely be read as a standalone but knowing their world from the Quiet Love novels really enriches their story. L.H. continues to combine two of my favorite writing techniques of hers in Prudence (young age storyline/time jump age storyline) and alternate point of views. Milly and Derek are from very different backgrounds but live in the same Irish town. They are loosely connected through Derek’s sister but form a strong attachment once they spend time together. I loved reading their first interactions and inner thoughts. They build trust and friendship as well as attraction in these early pages. As a reader, you just know they are perfect for each other despite sensing complications in their future. In the time jump portion of their story, they are reunited but it is not smooth sailing at all. Their attraction and love is still there but they have lived complicated lives since their teenage separation. This was my favorite part of the story, and you feel the anguish they are going through trying to find their way back to each other. It is an emotional and mature storyline that feels so real and therefore all the more meaningful. They have changed as people but at their core their values and desires are the same. The misunderstandings of the past are finally resolved and in L.H. fashion, they get their hard fought happily ever after. As always, L.H. has crafted a glorious tale of young love and mature love with the ease and addictive style as always. Bring on the Balfe family book number 2 (Tristan)!!

I became a fan of Ms. Cosway after reading her Quiet Love series. Her books are sweet and emotional with a realistic sense of life and its hardships, and Prudence has that and more.
This beautiful story captures the essence of love and second chances, taking you from a teenage connection to adult realities, with a twist of family drama to keep things interesting. Milly and Derek reconnect after years apart, facing numerous challenges along the way.
First love is a delicate journey. It’s sweet and innocent, full of those butterflies that make your heart race. But sometimes life and family get in the way. Milly is a shy girl figuring herself out, while Derek is the charming boy always there to lift her spirits. It was heartwarming to see Derek’s genuine affection for Milly, and so tragic when she had to break his heart due to her loyalty to someone else. Moments like that really set the stage for the deep connection that follows.
Fast forward eighteen years, and they’re both dealing with the hurdles of life as single parents, making this story feel all the more real and relatable. Milly is a successful radiologist, and Derek runs his family’s hotel business. But things have changed, and Derek is an ass to Milly at first, thanks to her past rejection and his own worries at home. To my great pleasure, Milly demonstrates her maturity by giving Derek hell for his rudeness and disrespect while trying to keep her distance. But fate is a fickle thing!
Even with the tension, I was cheering for Milly and Derek as they gradually found their way back to each other. It’s not an easy road, but those little moments—like Derek’s transition from grumpiness to warmth—show that their younger selves are still in there somewhere. The ending is uplifting, hinting at a promising future as two people embrace both their past and what lies ahead.
If you enjoy a heartfelt, down-to-earth romance that reflects life’s ups and downs, I highly recommend this book, especially if you’ve ever reconnected with someone from your past like I have.
