Dearest Gentle Reader,

It might just be the ARC copy I received, but the formatting and editing were rough. Distractingly so. The book could have used another solid round of edits, as the grammatical errors and misspellings constantly pulled me out of the story. It’s hard to stay immersed in a fantasy world when you’re mentally fixing punctuation.

Speaking of edits, the characters could have used a few as well. The protagonist, Myalis, is a 24-year-old woman. Perhaps kudos to the author for accurately capturing that age’s essence? Unfortunately, this also means Myalis is insufferable and frustratingly inconsistent. One moment she’s self-assured and clever, the next she’s naive to the point of recklessness. Is she curvy or is she a waif? The characters themselves can’t even seem to decide. It’s baffling how she’s managed to survive this long. Either she’s unnaturally lucky, or the Dark King is completely incompetent.

It’s obvious Cirilli adores her male characters. They’re layered, confident, and written with care. Each has motivation and emotional depth, which only makes Myalis feel more underdeveloped by comparison. She’s treated more as a plot device than a fully realized person.

It’s also painfully clear Cirilli didn’t consult any BIPOC readers or sensitivity readers. Sure, write what you know. There’s nothing inherently wrong with writing yet ANOTHER fantasy novel centering white people as the heroes. But if you’re going to write a book heavily inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender, I’m expecting, at the very least, the protagonists to be people of color.

Here, any BIPOC characters are relegated to the sidelines or placed in roles of servitude. The sidelining of BIPOC characters felt glaring and, at times, insulting. Cirilli has lifted only the parts of ATLA she deems acceptable while stripping away its cultural richness. It’s careless. Resulting in a story lacking the cultural and emotional depth that gave ATLA its heart.

If you’re expecting a spicy ATLA, prepare to be disappointed. The story leans heavily on familiar tropes, like running from the villain while discovering oneself, but adds little that feels new or exciting. My eyes rolled so far back I saw grey matter at the “long ago, the four nations lived in harmony” moment. It’s giving: “Can I copy your homework?” “Yeah, just don’t make it obvious.” The very least one can do while making a blatant rip-off, is to add something original to it. (And, no. Smut doesn’t count as originality.)

And speaking of smut, it wasn’t particularly good. The scenes felt rushed, juvenile, and oddly clinical. Two thrusts, mutual climax, and it’s over. The kissing scenes had more sensuality than the actual sex, which is never a good sign for a book marketed as “spicy.” The lack of consistency in how Myalis’s body reacts only made things more awkward. She’s totally fine when he enters her with no prep, but he inserts one finger and there’s pain? It didn’t make sense, even within its own logic.

As for the ending, killing off River in the final line of book one (or at least appearing to) isn’t the bold move Cirilli seems to think it is. It doesn’t shock the reader so much as it frustrates them. After suffering through uneven pacing and underdeveloped tension, the final twist arrives without the impact it was clearly aiming for.

Overall, this story had potential, but the execution fell short in nearly every category. With stronger editing, more consistent character work, and genuine cultural consideration, it could have been something special. Instead, it reads like an imitation of better stories that never quite finds its own voice.

If you’re looking for a fresh fantasy with heart, depth, and heat; this probably isn’t it. But if you’re curious about a chaotic elemental world and don’t mind a few (or many) rough edges, it might be worth skimming.

Huge thank you to Amanda Cirilli and meetcute marketing for the gifted eARC in exchange for my honest review!

The Starlight Princess follows the life of Myalis, a girl who at a young age lost her parents to the evil dark king. When the dark king gets worried over a prophecy announcing the end of his reign, he seeks out the one person who could possibly ruin him. After losing her parents, Myalis vanishes into the world of the Elemi where she lives a quiet life for ten years all by herself. Now that she was in her early twenties, Myalis is just enjoying her time until everything changes the moment she meets a mysterious stranger named River. After meeting him, her quiet life ends and she continues to be on the run from the dark king but this time, she does it with River. As feelings form, Myalis is forced to find out her true identity and has to decide if she is going to follow this prophecy or spend the rest of her life in hiding.

This book completely took me by storm! I was immediately teleported into this magical world and enjoyed being along for the ride with Myalis and River. They had an instant connection, but I didn’t mind it! I felt like they were a good match and their banter and watching them learn more about each other was so fun to witness. Of course there were secrets that were being kept but I still loved how River was willing to do anything he had to in order to protect Mya. Of course, I feel like there is always still a secret side to River but he truly made Mya happy and I was rooting for them. Mya was such a strong FMC and I admired her strength and determination, especially when it came to wanting to learn her power and how to use it. Watching her come into her true self was beautiful and I felt like she could truly take on the dark king if she ever faced him.

The ending…that ending had my jaw on the floor. I felt so conflicted and so heartbroken all at the same time and I can’t help but wonder what will happen in the next book. Until its release I’ll be thinking about this book and all the struggles Mya will face now that she is in the grasp of the one person she was running from her whole life.

I absolutely loved this book and couldn't get enough of it!

The characters were incredibly believable and likable. Watching the FMC, Myalis, and the MMC, River, grow separately and together into a power team was a treat. Myalis is a great reluctant hero, and River is the perfect book boyfriend—funny, tenacious, and genuinely caring.

Including Voras' POV in a few chapters was an interesting take, but it didn't take away from the story. It added a dynamic and gave a little insight in his character, which makes me suspicious what his character growth and dynamics in the upcoming book(s)...part of me hopes I am wrong.

The plot felt like an epic quest to destiny, and I adored every unique place they visited. The worldbuilding was very well done, and I thought the naming conventions were clever, especially the connection between Myalis with Myrea.

And those spicy scenes were top-notch! They caught me off guard in the best way. River's mysterious nature in the beginning only made those scenes better as we learned more about him.

That ending, though—it's a brutal cliffhanger that feels like a stab to the heart! You bet I'll be keeping my eyes out for the next book whenever that gets announced.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to Amanda Cirilli and Meet Cute Press for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book and how much I enjoyed the story. I went in a bit skeptical but was drawn in by the journey and quick introduction to the MMC, River Dune. He’s as you’d expect - witty, cocky, and in your face enough that you can’t help but grow to love him. Our FMC, Myalis, is a bit stand offish and skittish at first given her circumstances but we get to see her grow in confidence and ability throughout her quest.

This does have your typical Romantasy calling cards with a Dark Ruler, prophecies, an independent FMC, and magic to be learned. It’s well paced and kept me interested with each new development. And the gasp I gusped at the ending has me reeling about where this story will go from here. Maybe things aren’t as they seem or as we were led to believe which would be a fun twist.

This felt like a cross between The Shadow and Bone Trilogy & The Dragons and Fae Trilogy by Jasmine Walt.

This romantasy was enjoyable. It follows the journey of a young woman hiding from a dark force that seeks to use her as a pawn in his quest for power, peace, and control. As she travels through different territories and begins to uncover her hidden powers, the story beautifully captures her growth and courage. The plot unfolds in a way that really gives Avatar vibes—layered world-building, elemental energy, and an adventure that keeps you turning pages.

The writing is easy to follow and doesn’t overwhelm with heavy language, making it a smooth and easy read. There’s just the right amount of spice (medium level!) and an ending that will definitely leave you hanging and wanting more. The antagonist gave me ACOTAR energy—dark, complex, and maybe not as evil as he seems. I have a feeling there’s a lot more to him than meets the eye, and I can’t wait to see how that plays out in the sequel!

A magical, romantic, and exciting start to what feels like it’ll be an incredible series.

I had the pleasure of reading the ARC for The Starlight Princess and this is my honest review.

I personally had a hard time getting into the book, don't get me wrong it was a good book but I don't think it was for me. Part of it was the insta-love pull that was happening between Mya and River the two main characters.

River (MMC) is very secretive about many things one of which is the prophecy, but I think there's more to him that we don't know about yet. Even when we are his POV, I think he's hidding things.

Mylias (FMC) shows a lot of growth from where we start with her to the end of the book. She has a lot of things thrown at her that she has to overcome. You see her struggle from being alone and surviving the best she can to traveling with River.

Will I continue with the next book? Probably, yeah just because of the ending and I kinda want to learn more about the King that Mylias is running from.

This first book feels like the prologue to a much bigger cosmic affair, and I’m already lighting a candle in hopes we get a why-choose situation as the series unfolds. River is giving “I’m good… until I’m not,” and I can practically sense a betrayal crouched in the shadows. And the Dark King and Holt? Their energy barges in like fate wearing combat boots. There’s no universe where she doesn’t end up tangled with all of them, right?

My biggest wish is that the training arc had more room to breathe. Mya’s power blossoms off-screen a bit too fast, and I wanted to feel that struggle, the frustration, the slow ignition of her magic catching flame. The pacing makes some moments feel rushed when they could have been deliciously immersive.

Still, the setup has so much potential, and the character dynamics are already sparkling with chaotic, romantic possibility. I’ll definitely be picking up book two to see where this constellation of men pulls her next ✨🌙

This book was such a wild ride. There is so much packed into this story. If it was a standalone, I would say that it was too rushed and lacked the details needed to explain everything. However, since it’s the first in a series, I suspect the author is setting us up for continuing world building as the story continues. There are a lot of new fantastical creatures and other elements that I’ve never encountered before. It’s very fast paced and an easy read. It’s not like a heavy high fantasy story or anything. So this would be great for readers who are just venturing into the world of romantasy and don’t want anything too complicated. It’s packed full of all the popular tropes. Instant chemistry, possessive MMC, FMC with mysterious powers who needs training, a long journey traveling with only one horse and *gasp* only one bed in the inn. 😉 I’m eager to see how the story progresses.

I originally received the ARC and read up to chapter 14 before life got busy. When my finished copy arrived I picked it back up and read straight through to the end.

This was the perfect reset read. It delivered all the fantasy elements I love with magic, lore, and steady world building. I never felt overwhelmed with information. Everything unfolded clearly and at a pace that kept me engaged.

The tension between River and Myalis was incredible. There were moments where it felt almost unbearable in the best possible way. After that first kiss in the alley I wanted them to get together immediately. The slow burn made every moment worth it and made their connection even better.

Overall this story was comforting and immersive. It had just enough fantasy to keep me hooked and just enough romance to make me feel everything. If you want a book that is easy to fall into with characters you can root for this is a great choice.

🌟ARC REVIEW🌟

This plot was captivating. From the beginning, I felt for Mya, trapped, alone, and on the run. No true home and no one she can trust. Then a mystery man appears and derails everything she thought she had going. The chemistry between her and River was palpable from the beginning. He is everything I love in a MMC. He’s attractive, somewhat cocky, and possessive enough to make it hot. I must say, we don’t get to know too much about the Dark King, but honestly, he intrigues me as well. I can’t decide, maybe he will be a low key good guy, or maybe he will be even worse than I think. Either way, I think I am here for it and the chaos he is causing. This book was fast paced, and an easy read. It definitely left me wanting more, and I can say, I will be here for book two.

“i think of the stars. how beautiful they arex how i often fell drawn to them in my loneliest hours. …” -excerpt from the starlight princess.

mrs. cirilli has made me fall completely in love with romantasy. The Starlight Princess has it all: devastatingly beautiful world building, banter and teasing characters who YEARN secretly for each other, an amazing villain (who i kinda love, but we won’t talk about that), fate, and more. i can say without a doubt, that this book could get you to believe in yourself, empower yourself, and honestly BE yourself. i found myself growing with Mya. that could be me just having main character syndrome, but i can definitely relate with her throughout the book. I genuinely think this book could end being a best seller because of how good it!

I haven’t read or seen the film Avatar, but I am a fan of Sarah J. Maas and I have to say this book was truly beautiful. The character development, world building when it comes to any fantasy/romantasy book is always a must. This book delivered just that and so much more.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I finished it in 1 day. What I really appreciated is that the book hit the ground running. It was not slow paced and you jumped head first into Mya's life. I really liked the chemistry and character development between Mya and River. I loved their banter and the challenges they faced. It is clear that there are so many more secrets that Mya needs to uncover. I do wish that there was more background on Varus, River and other characters but I have a strong feeling we will get these answers in book 2. That ending- let me just say that I need book 2 right now. This is definitely on the top list of my favorite books this year.

I had the pleasure of being an Arc reader for this book. I enjoyed that right out the gate the story grabbed my attention and didn’t let go. The pacing for this book was well done and the spice level was just right. As we follow Mya and River on their adventures to help Mya with her powers that she doesn’t know how to control to be able to fulfill her destiny. They face challenges along the way as they find help and anyone that can help Mya with learning her powers. I can’t wait for the second book to come out because the cliffhanger I was left on is killing me and I need the next one soon.

This books was a fun read and truly felt like a magical adventure. The world building was fantastic. I felt very immersed into the world of Elemi. Myalis and River are main characters that you will want to root for. They form such a special (and spicy!) bond during their adventures together. The main villain, King Voras, is evil enough that you love to hate him but also intriguing enough that you are curious to learn more about him. The ending of this book had my jaw on the floor. I need book 2 asap!

I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This was a good read with magic, prophecy and an evil king. Myalis starts off independent but somewhat afraid. As the story goes on, she grows strong and fierce. Love character growth. River is a great MMC, possessive and clever. I liked their chemistry together. The story itself is also really good with an unexpected twist at the end. I need to know what happens next so I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series.

The Starlight Princess swept me away from the very first page. With the tragic death of Myalis’s parents on her thirteenth birthday, the story sets an emotional, high-stakes tone that never lets up. Ten years later, she’s not just a fugitive she’s the key to the realm’s survival, and watching her journey from frightened exile to fierce, luminous force is nothing short of epic.

Mya meets a man who is devoted to her. River loves her and helps her find out who she is. The story is so nice, I love that they work things out. I do hope they get a happy ending because I love him and want her to be happy in the end. The dark king seems like he could be a good guy but maybe hes been doing stuff a certain way that hes too much of a tool to want to change
