Two days before the solar eclipse, Elara’s world is no larger than the golden fields beyond her village gates, the rhythm of her days marked by the toll of the sunbell and the familiar warmth on her skin. The air smells of ripening grain and sun-warmed stone, and the only shadow she’s ever known is the one she casts herself.
But when the gods descend for the Eclipse Festival, the celebration she’s known all her life shatters—trumpets become war cries, blessings turn to demands, and the streets run dark with blood and ash. In the aftermath, Solavend lies in ruins, its people scattered or dead, and the sky itself feels heavy with something watching.
From the wreckage steps Kael—a stranger cloaked in midnight, with eyes like the last breath before nightfall and secrets sharp enough to draw blood. He is both danger and salvation, a tether pulling her toward a truth she has no right to touch and a game she cannot hope to win.
In a land ruled by immortal whims, where oaths can bind as tightly as chains and a single word from the gods can decide who lives and who burns, Elara must navigate a world remade in shadow.
And when the eclipse comes, she will have to bow to the fire that would consume her… or become it herself.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶🌶🌶 Great book from a debut author! I loved the character growth and story that we were given! We meet Elara who is thrust into a huge change in her life, and meet multiple gods that all have their complexes and problems.
My only hold up on stars was that I think some parts were missed or rushed. Initially there were multiple kids, then only 3 were mentioned for awhile. Closer to the end more were back again, so I was just a little confused and thought I had lost my mind for a little bit. 😅
K Murphy gave us a great book otherwise with a good storyline and a slow burn romance, I can't wait for the next book in this series to see where she takes us next!
I was completely drawn into the world of Solavend. The vivid imagery of the eclipse and its aftermath is stunning. Elara’s courage and struggle feel real and compelling. The interplay between power, fate, and choice is masterfully handled. A dark, unforgettable fantasy that keeps you turning the pages.
This book is good. My main issue with it was the daily life chatty parts. If you like books with emphasis on day to day life, then this is the book for you! Check out my review on my blog!
