Maple Leaves & Lattes

Rate this book
The adventures in small-town Birch Lake continue with this charming autumn romance, filled with cozy coffee shops, bookstore dreams, and an ex who just won't stay in the past.

Jules Dubois has always been a go for it person. So when the chance arises to save Birch Lake, Minnesota’s one and only coffee shop, she jumps at the opportunity and doesn’t look back. With the aroma of fresh coffee and books surrounding her, Jules is totally ready to embrace her new, cozy, small-town life.

What Jules did not plan for was her ex-boyfriend moving in next door, threatening her sanity with his undeniable good looks and irritating charm.

Jax MacIntyre came to Birch Lake to leave the past behind and start fresh. Instead, he finds himself face to face with the woman who once shattered his heart, a blow he's never fully recovered from. The smart thing would be to keep his distance, a sentiment that Jules strongly shares.

…but when a fateful autumn storm—and a reluctant truce—begin to blur her carefully drawn lines, Jules has to scramble to remember all of the reasons why Jax was a bad idea in the first place.

And Jax? He’s beginning to accept the fact that some sparks never truly go out.

As far as cozy fall romances go - this was absolutely adorable! Looking forward to reading more of this series and most likely going back to read the first Birch Lake book!

First of all, it's every reader girly's dream to own/hang out in a bookstore coffee shop every day, and I LOVE reading about those settings. Secondly, the relationship progressed exactly as I needed it to, and I never felt rushed or like I wanted to skip ahead.

🌶️🌶️ - A few open-door spice scenes closer to the end, but still a sweet romance!

There are our F-it moments, the one bed trope, forced proximity as neighbors -- all the things you'll love and more!

**Thank you to Rowanberry Nook for the advanced reader copy. I received this book for free, but all thoughts are my own. – SLR🖤

Our heroine: Jules Dubois, 32. She is taking on a new career as the owner of a coffee shop/bookstore and writes “fae smut” on the side. Jules is stubbornly independent and has never been interested in a long-term relationship.

Our hero: Jax, 34. After selling his interest in a successful tech startup due to overwhelming anxiety, he retreats to a small town to teach at a community college and work for a friend who does carpentry. Jax has a grumpy exterior, but inside has a huge heart.

This is a great second installment in the Birch Lake Romance series. The heroine has recently quit her job and bought a coffee shop in the small Minnesota town her sister has moved to and where an aunt also resides. Both the coffee shop and her house are in need of renovation, but she is the type of person who is undaunted by a challenge and wants to do everything herself.

While attending a Renaissance festival in costume, she quite literally runs into an attractive guy, also in costume. They have an immediate chemistry, but the handsome stranger, Jax, suddenly realizes he knows Jules--they had a short-lived fling four years prior. The situation ended badly, so upon recognizing each other, they go their separate ways only to later run into each other in the small town they have coincidentally just both moved to.

Jules’s sister and aunt are both out of town for much of the book and a freak accident leaves Jules dependent on Jax. They slowly build a friendship and realize what they thought was true years ago was instead an unfortunate misunderstanding. Even with this revelation, the two each have their reasons for keeping their walls up even if they still feel the attraction. While not a classic enemies-to-lovers scenario (they don’t hate each other), this is a story of building trust, learning it is ok to rely on others, and reinventing oneself through a major life change.

The novel has some humor and a little quirk, but also delves into deeper issues such as severe anxiety and the aftermath of being emotionally neglected by parents (which could be triggering for some). It’s a second chance story told from both perspectives, although heavily weighted towards the heroine’s. As a result, a lot of what the hero is feeling is as much a mystery to the reader as it is to the heroine. There is some steam, but it is only moderately explicit. Jules appears in the first book in the series (featuring her sister). While the hero and heroine of book 1 make appearances in this book, it still reads ok as a standalone--it is just that much better to read them in order though. This book has a bit of a different vibe than the first, mainly because the two sisters have such different personalities.

If you love a small town romance with emotional depth, give this one a try.

I received the book as an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this cozy fall romance. Supporting more indie authors is a 2025 goal of mine, and discovering Rowan Eira is a fellow Minnesotan made picking this one up an easy choice.

The small-town Minnesota setting, plus the coffee shop/bookstore combo, created the perfect autumn atmosphere. I loved following Jules and Jax as they worked through old miscommunications and found their way back to each other.

If you enjoy sweet small-town romances with warm fall vibes, this one is definitely worth adding to your TBR.

Thank you for the ARC read!!!

I absolutely loved maple leaves and lattes. The perfect little rom-com for any fall read. Characters were well done. Mental health was handled beautifully. The yearning was mf YEARNING.

Jules and Jax aren’t just strangers starting over in the same place—they’re enemies bound by an old wound that neither of them has truly healed from. Every interaction between them crackles with tension, whether it’s sharp banter, accidental moments of vulnerability, or those charged silences that say more than words ever could.

Jax will absolutely win over readers with his charm (and his flaws), while Jules is the perfect mix of determined, resilient, and learning to understand that letting others help her does not make her weak. Their push-and-pull dynamic had me grinning, swooning, and begging them to finally get together.

Beyond the romance, this is also a heartfelt story about chasing your dreams, confronting the past, and finding the courage to rebuild—not just your life, but yourself. It incorporates anxiety and ptsd in the most real and authentic way giving space to characters battling their demons. The writing is vivid, the side characters add so much warmth, and the autumnal atmosphere is so cozy you’ll practically smell the maple lattes.

Final thoughts: If you love small-town romance, enemies-to-lovers tension, and a fall setting that feels like a hug in book form—preorder this one now. You’ll laugh, you’ll swoon, and you’ll never look at a latte the same way again.

Arc - this is such a cute story and makes me ready for fall aka the best season ever! Dual POVs, miscommunication, found family, only one bed at the hotel, and second chance love. Usually I don’t tend to go for second chance romance, but this book got me to change my mind. This was the perfect cleanser after reading a more intense more prior to this book. I’ll definitely be reading more by this author!!

I really enjoyed this cute, small town romance watching her live out the dream life of so many millennials with her coffee shop/bookstore combo. So many enjoyable tropes throughout this book and I really enjoyed the dual POV. It was a nice way to kick off the fall reading season!

Huge thank you to Rowan for providing me with an advanced copy of Maple Leaves and Lattes! As always, my opinions are my own. ☺️

Wanting to pursue her dreams, Jules moves to small town Birch Lake and buy the local coffee shop! Not only had she moved closer to her sister Rune and her fiancé Finn but she’s also now next door neighbours with.. her ex?! Jules and Jax aren’t exactly on civil terms.. frankly they seem to hate eachother for what happened between them years ago.

But being in a small town and now neighbours, they’re bound to run into each other eventually. Can these two put their differences aside and be civil, or will the past come back to haunt them?

My Thoughts ⬇️⬇️

Oh my god I loved Jules and Jax so much!! While I absolutely loathe the miscommunication trope, (and yes Rowan definitely calls it out in her book) I can forgive them for this.

The moment these two realized they hated each other over something so simple and silly.. god it was too funny!! It was so fun getting to see them rekindle what they had and move on and sort of help each other heal from not only their own mistakes but other things in their lives.

I’m definitely picking up Winter Getaway so I can read Rune and Finn’s story next! Cuz I cannot get enough 😍 Now you can read my silly reactions to moments in the book below!

Check Ins ⬇️⬇️

6% check-in: Oh they know eachother, they used to date.. seems it end badly! I wonder what happened?

12 % check-in: Wait what?! Another one?! Wtf 😂 I can’t wait to read more about this conundrum. Also Jax moved in next door and I’m loving this hehe

26% check-in: Oooo is there a possible truce on the horizon?

29% check-in: Ok Ben is really hooked on the eggs 🤨

47% check-in: Thank God they finally had an adult conversation

59% check-in: Ok I can’t get this silly grin off my face!!

64% check-in: And I’m cooked!! HE SAID THE LINE 😫

98% check-in: And I’m sobbing 😭 Why do authors insist on making me cry?!

Jules and Jax end up starting over in the same small town. Though I should say it is not on purpose lol. They are so mad at each other yet. Neither one knows the full story on either end. Once they move and happen to bump into each other it’s sharp banter, moments of unwelcome vulnerability & annoyance & hot sexual tension! Then of course a bad storm & accident forces her to accept Jax’s help.

Jax is soo charming tho! Jules on the other hand is self-reliant and extremely stubborn. She hates asking or receiving Help help even though she is willing to give it out for others. She has a brick wall around her heart because her upbringing was so terrible. She has a sister that grew up with her, but Jules got the worst end of it. I think. Eventually, there is a little thawing, even though Jules fights it as hard as she can. The yearning in this book is top-tier & I’m screaming the whole way for them to get together.

Both of them have been dealt a rough hand in life. They both happen to land in the same small town in Minnesota and try to start a new fresh more relaxing life. Jack is trying to find a new ambition in life and Jules took over and is now officially the proud owner of a coffee shop that she also wants to turn into a bookstore which in fact is the only coffee shop in that town as well. So everyone in that town is dying for it to open up again because they have an amazing coffee addiction like I do, lol.

The author did an amazing job with incorporating panic attacks and mental abuse, anxiety & ptsd. I can actually feel what they are going through. It is very hard for me to read a book and actually show emotion sadly lol. Though this book actually got me Teary near the end. The other family members and town people are so kind and loving. I would even say they’re more warm and welcome than the town of Stars Hollow in Gilmore girls. This book makes me want to live in this town in the fall. The way the coffee shop & bookshop is designed is every reader & coffee lovers dream. I’d be there every morning, especially the fall.

Autumn is not my season (because winter and snow follow...) so anything that makes it enjoyable, sign me up!

When you start over in a small town and your ex is starting over in the same small town, well, fiddlesticks. Talk about a small world! But that's exactly what happens with Jules and Jax. Jules broke Jax's heart and she could do it again. It would really be best to keep distance from one another, but that never works out how it should.

Jax is so sweet even though he's risking his heart. And Jules? She's learning to be vulnerable and ask for help, which is a difficult thing to do. Their slow burn is just so cozy and warm as they go from mutual dislike to friends to lovers. You can feel the tension between them along with the yearning for one another. It made me want to cuddle up with hot cocoa and a blanket on the sofa and read it all over again.

Moreover, Eira does an excellent job writing about anxiety and panic attacks. As someone who suffered from it in the past, it was well-presented and felt true to character given the story. Granted, everyone's experience with anxiety and its attacks are different but there's always that same vein where you think, "Ah, yes, I know that exact feeling."

This was my first time reading Rowan Eira, so I didn't know what to expect. I can confidently say that any and all expectations were exceeded! This is the 2nd book in an interconnected standalone series, but book no. 1 isn't necessary to understand this book. Dare I say, you'll want to read it after reading Maple Leaves and Lattes!

☕ Small town charm
🍂 Cozy autumn vibes
☕ Sweet & spicy

September means it’s fall, right? Right?! Despite the heat wave in SoCal this week, I am craving all the cozy comforting fall vibes. Pair that with a book that is Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama, and I’m sold!

Jules has always been fiercely independent. When the opportunity comes up to buy the only coffee shop in the small town of Birch Lake, she decides to take a leap and start her next chapter there. Jax has had enough of the corporate hustle, and has exchanged his stressful tech job for more of a low key life in Birch Lake.

Jules & Jax happen to have moved in next to each other, which sounds like the perfect meet cute - EXCEPT they are old flames from years past, and it didn’t end well. A little bit of forced proximity and sparks are flying, but they each can’t tell what the other is truly thinking after their crash and burn relationship ended.

It was fun seeing the dual perspective from both Jules and Jax. Their chemistry is undeniable, even if they both are fighting it for as long as they can. Couple that with a charming setting, memorable side characters, and Maple Leaves & Lattes had me hooked from page 1!

This is actually the 2nd book in a series about Birch Lake, and it read incredibly well as a standalone. Rowan’s writing style had me laughing out loud and practically kicking my feet. I needed some comforting cozy fall vibes, and this definitely delivered!

This was an incredibly cute read, I swear I read the last half in record speed to see how the story ended.

Check it out and add to your fall reading lists! Thank you to Rowan Eira for the ARC!

You’ll love this if you’re a fan of:

🍁 Forced proximity
💜 Enemies to lovers
🍁 Small town charm
💜 Coffee shop x bookshop hybrids
🍁 Fun banter
💜 Cozy fall setting

‘‘Tis the season for cosy small town romances that will give you heart eyes - Maple Leaves and Lattes is just what we all need!

Jules has just bought a house and a coffee shop in the small town her sister lives in. Eager to start her new life, she introduces herself to her neighbour who is also new to the area. But there’s a problem - they already know each other, and not in a good way.

With the countdown to the opening of her coffee shop on, Jules has a lot to process about family (found and biological), accepting help, and shutting others out of her problems. But her biggest lesson by far will be opening her heart again to super green flag guy Jax.

This book throws the tropes at you like no one’s business - second chance, black cat/golden retriever, forced proximity, only one bed - but they’re all done really nicely. Even better, Jules is a writer and takes great pleasure in rolling her eyes at the various tropes they meet.

This is the second book in a series, but I read it as a stand alone with no problems. It is witty, entertaining, introspective and just a really pleasant read. There are no big bads to beat other than time and Jules’ own expectations of herself. It’s a story you could very easily see taking place in reality.

The romance is slow burn and open door with a medium level of spice. There’s discussions of narcissistic parents and descriptions of panic attacks.

If you want sweet without cloying, funny without being farcical, and real characters that you want to know more about, this book must be your next read. I’d recommend it for fans of rom coms, contemporary romance and cosy reads.

ARC Review

Maple Leaves and Lattes by Rowan Eira is the second book in the Birch Lake Romance series.

Jules Dubois decided it was time for a drastic change in her life. She bought the Up North Coffee shop in Birch Lake and moved there permanently. It was a huge risk, but worth it—she would finally be close to her family again. What she didn’t expect was to discover that her new neighbor was Jax, a man she had once shared a few incredible nights with… before it all ended in disaster.

They both knew they should keep their distance, but a storm and an accident forced a temporary truce. From there, things slowly began to improve—until another romantic night pulled them back into each other’s arms. Could this be the start of something lasting, or were they destined to return to being “just friends”?

This is such a sweet autumn romance filled with beloved tropes: a bookish FMC (which many of us can relate to), second-chance romance, and forced proximity. The dynamic between Jules and Jax is compelling—layered with simmering attraction, a touch of bad blood, and a slow-burn friendship that blossoms into something more. It’s a moslty clean romance with a few playful innuendos sprinkled in.

I genuinely liked both characters, but Jax was my favorite—he’s a total sweetheart and undeniably attractive. Jules was nice too, though at times a little pessimistic. My favorite part of the story was their trip together—it was warm, charming, and full of heart.

If you’re in the mood for a cozy, autumnal read, this one is for you.

Spice level: 2 peppers. It is talked about but very little on page action

I really truly enjoyed this book. I was in such a book slump this summer because I craved fall so much. Fall is the time to be in the Northwoods, and I have biding my time waiting. This book brought me right to a cool October day, sipping tea and grabbing my fuzzy socks. It felt like a cozy hoodie and fresh candle. I loved the way she encompassed the trouble in committing to someone when you have parental trauma. I felt so seen when she talked about dealing with her mother. The super sneaky twist she threw in made me GASP audibly in my bubble bath. I was STUNNED. And only a true Northern girly pop knows about the beautiful locations she brought up. The homage to the stunning region on the lake shore felt like it gave back a piece of adoration to an area we take for granted living nearby.
Now we need to discuss Jax. In depth, and at length *wink wink* BUT GIRL did you REALLY create the hottest and steamiest man and then make him the sweetest man also? The way I kicked my feet and giggled whenever he says pretty much anything? Sold. I don’t wanna give away anything because I wan’t those feels to be fresh. I can’t wait to read more from Rowan and cannot wait to get my grubby mitts on a shelf trophy!!

Very grateful to have gotten an early copy to try to get more eyes on this amazing book!!!

I received a free advance review copy, and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

If you’re looking for a light, cozy read with autumn vibes, this book fits the bill. It starts off with a bit of heat before shifting into more of a slow burn. On the spice scale, I’d rate it 🌶️🌶️ out of 5—overall pretty tame, though it does have its moments. Some readers may not love the smutty touches, but it’s fairly minimal.
I’m giving this one 3/5 stars because, while enjoyable, it didn’t fully pull me in. I love books that make me forget the world around me, and this one felt more like a pleasant read than an unputdownable story. The characters are fun and the writing has a nice flow, but it lacked that extra spark to set it apart.
That said, it’s a charming seasonal pick—perfect if you’re in the mood for something lighter or want a palette cleanser between heavier reads. My only real critique is the chapter transitions. Since each chapter alternates between character perspectives, I found the repeated recap of events from the previous POV unnecessary. It would have been stronger to dive right into the new character’s thoughts instead of rehashing what we already knew.

While it didn’t fully capture me, I can see it being a delightful seasonal read for those who enjoy cozy, character-driven romances.

This book was pitched to me as Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama—and it absolutely delivered on that cozy, small-town charm. From the moment I started, I couldn’t put it down, even when it was way past my bedtime.

The FMC is a bookish coffee shop owner (with a fun twist—she writes fae smut on the side!) who brings life and warmth to the community. Her shop even includes a little bookstore, which I adored. The MMC is rugged, manly, and the perfect balance to her stubborn streak. I loved getting both sides of the story with the alternating POVs—it really made the romance feel deeper and more real.

What really stood out to me was the family dynamic. The bond between the FMC and her sister felt authentic, especially as they navigated the challenges of having a narcissistic mother. It added layers to the story beyond just the romance.

The only thing that occasionally frustrated me was how hard-headed the FMC could be, especially when she kept her happiness to herself instead of sharing it. But honestly, that just made her feel more real and imperfect.

If you love small-town romances filled with coffee, books, family bonds, and a swoony, rugged hero—you’ll love this one. I know I did.

When I first started this book, I was really worried I wouldn’t like it…I’m not a huge fan of open-door romances and the opening chapters were quirky in a way I was weary of. However, I kept reading it and I am so glad I did!

The story surrounds a woman opening a coffee shop in a new (small) town. She goes through trials and challenges as she works to get it ready for opening day, but she has a much larger “problem” at hand: she is stuck in this town with a man she’s held a hatred for over the span of four years.

Yes, this book is everything a Hallmark movie is (with some much-needed additional sass and weirdness). The book is written really well, flowing through a cohesive timeline. There were points I had some whiplash as scenes, moods, and internal dialogue switched quickly. In those instances, the story felt clunky or forced. But they are so fleeting that they don’t take away from the book.

I like that there is not a lot of explicit intimate scenes. Instead, the book is romantic in a cheesy way (that will make you swoon and wish these men were real) and in a sweet way. However, the added swearing seemed unnecessary in some places.

If you love a good romance, need a light read, and want characters with some spunk, this book is for you!

Thank you so much to the author for the earc! All opinions are my own.

Leaves & Lattes is book two in a series of interconnected stand alones, I did not read the first book and didn’t feel like I missed any major plot points.

Jules is 32 and at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival with her sister and some others when a worker there catches her eye. After some drinks, they end up making out, only to discover they had a 3 day fling that ended years ago and they didn’t recognize each other in their garb.

Fast forward a few months, Jules has moved to the small town of Birch Lake to open a coffee shop and follow her writing dreams. To go along with this, she also has purchased an adorable house with chickens outside of town. She is so excited to realize that she has a new neighbor, and decides to bring over some eggs. Once she reaches the house and introduces herself, she realizes it’s her one time fling, Jax.

These two have to come to terms with the miscommunication of their flopped situationship, a major injury, and just falling in love among small town Minnesota!

Jules has moved to Birch Lake, Minnesota & is the new owner of the local coffee shop, ready for a new challenge in life, only to find out her ex, Jax, is also her new next door neighbor. Did I mention they didn't have a friendly breakup? Add in a head injury plus crutches equals one of my favorite micro-tropes “I’m washing the dishes so you can fucking relax”

I loved the descriptions of the settings throughout the book. Sometimes it can feel too wordy, but I think the author did a great job. I enjoyed diving deeper into why Jules is so hyper independent, and seeing that play out with both her friends & her sister.

If you need a cozy romance, found family, a good f*ck it moment, mental health representation for both characters, small town vibes and of course a second chance romance, I highly recommend this book.

This is book 2 as an interconnected standalone in the Birch Lake series, but I read this first and enjoyed it! Book 1, Winter Getaway is next on my TBR and there are 3 more coming!!

Thank you to the author for the ARC

🍂 Maple Leaves & Lattes ☕️ by Rowan Eira
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book 2 in a series of interconnected standalones

If you love:
🏕 Small town romance
🍂 Cozy, fall vibes
⚔️ Enemies to lovers
✌️ Second chance
🔥 Slow burn but Chapter 20 🥵

This book reminded me of a popular series that shot to Booktok fame, but this one was soooo much better. I enjoyed this book so much that I just bought book 1 (Winter Getaway) to stay in Birch Lake, MN a bit longer.

I loved the whole story line. The characters were so well developed and really leapt off the page - I want to move to this town and be friends with these characters 😊 There were several moments where I was giggling out loud and kicking my feet (ignoring the looks from my husband 😏). I was rooting for Jax and Jules so hard, and you will too!

This book is perfect for reading outside while the leaves fall and there's a crispness to the air.  Don't forget your latte ☕️ too!

I found the author, Rowan Eira, on Threads and got access to an ARC of this book because of her posts!
I was happy to read and write this review. Romance is not usually my genre, but her description of
"Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama" sold it for me. I would venture to say this book hits a lot of romance tropes, but in a very light, easy to read way, that makes you want to finish the book. There's enemies to lovers, a long lost sibling, easy to predict results, all in a lovely autumnal setting that makes you feel cozy. I'd compare it to a Hallmark Christmas movie - predictable and exactly what you need sometimes. My only big complaint was the names.
They didn't feel realistic or appropriate to the era.
They felt like what adults now would name their children, not what a current 30 year old would be named. Other than that, truly a joy to read! A little bit of spice, but nothing too graphic or cheesy.

✨ARC READER ✨

Perfect fall/rainy day cozy romance read!

Did I start this book late last night before going to bed and immediately pick it up when I woke up today? Absolutely! For me this was a can’t put down and that was many thanks to the author’s, Rowan Eira, writing style having the perfect rhythm and flow.

Focused on Jules a new coffee shop/bookstore owner and her new adventures in Birch Lake, Minnesota and an ex who is also looking for a fresh start in the same town.

The perfect blend of spice and cozy romance, Maple Leaves and Lattes, is the second book in an interconnected stand alone series (Birch Lake Romance).

I had high hopes as the book was described as “This Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama story is filled with books, coffee shops, and an ex who just won't stay in the past…and it is SO ready to make its way into your hands!” and I’m so glad it found its way in to my hands!

I read the first book in the series as an arc reader, so I was so excited to read the second one as an arc reader again! I can honestly say that I enjoyed this book. I love the small town aspect of this series, and I really enjoy the friendship that’s there between the siblings, cousins, and grandma. I’m also excited about the introduction of some new characters and have hoped that there might be another one in the series? And, I can honestly say that this did not feel like a copy of any other book I’ve read before, which is not always easy to achieve in this genre of book! Overall, if you’re wanting to give it a go, start with the first one and diving because the character characters and the small town are always a good vibe. Oh, and bonus points if you’re a coffee lover, because this one has to do with opening a new coffee shop and bookstore!

Set in beautiful northern Minnesota in the fall, in Maple Leaves and Lattes we follow Jules who is in desperate need of a life change when she purchases a coffee shop in small town birch Lake and gets to work cleaning it up and opening a book store in the unused event space in the shop.

She is settling in and making good progress when one day she notices that someone is moving in next door. Being a good midwestern neighbor she strolls over with a basket of eggs to give as a housewarming only to run into her past in more ways than one. Turns out that new neighbor is also an ex ... and he hates her.

This book is perfect for rom-com lovers! It is fun, fast and adorable with mental health rep, found family, miscommunication, and a healthy dose of second chances.

Maple Leaves & Lattes by Rowan Eira swept me right into the heart of Birch Lake—and I never wanted to leave. 🍁☕ Between the aroma of coffee, the charm of a bookstore dream, and the undeniable spark of a second-chance romance, this story gave me all the cozy small-town vibes I adore.

Jules and Jax’s dynamic is the perfect mix of tension, banter, and heart (and let’s be real… that autumn storm scene 👀🔥). If you love Gilmore Girls aesthetics, Emily Henry feels, and the warmth of Abby Jimenez romances, this book deserves a spot on your fall TBR.

✨ Cozy coffee shops
✨ Bookstore dreams
✨ Exes-to-lovers tension
✨ Small-town charm

Rowan Eira has officially earned a place on my auto-buy list. 🍂💛

“If you ever need to move on, I’ll get the door and hold it open for you. Until then, let’s burn.” 🥵😮‍💨😍🥹

Can i give it six stars?! This book has my heart for sure! If you like second chance, but make it feel enemies to lovers, fall vibes. This is the one for you! If you’re a hyper independent woman, you’ll also relate, i was teary eyed by the end of this book. Because it might be the sweetest love story, it’s so relatable for the “I’ll do it myself” girlies. 🥹 But also, THE SPICE?! 😏 And she writes smut?! This book is everything you could want in a romance & more. Fall, second chances, enemy vibes, plot twists, spice, and an ending that will have you kicking your feet and smiling? A must read!

This book was given to me as an ARC, this is an ARC review.

A masterful blend of cozy small town romance and steamy enemies-to-lovers steaminess! Jules is a wonderfully flawed FMC who loves vikings, adventure, and writing about fairy sex. Jax is a witty, ripped MMC who escapes big city tech life by moving to northern Minnesota. Many mishaps and stolen glances ensue as we see exes Jules and Jax become neighbors, friends, more?
This book has most of the tropes I deeply adore: FMC and MMC both have villages that love them, "I don't know if he likes me" and "I'm obsessed with her but she hates me", slow burn, rekindling flames, and MCs nerding out over things they love.

5/5 stars
5/5 steamy romance
2/5 spicy - open door but only a few scenes with detail

Read as an ARC and am OBSESSED. ❤️

This is the perfect read as we move into the autumn cosy season.

Jules is an extremely independent person who has never been interested in a long term relationship. Yay for childhood trauma.

Jax is a grumpy (but secretly huge hearted) ex-businessman looking for a quieter life.

Together there is fireworks, tension, miscommunication (which is quickly resolved don’t worry), humor and second chances.

This book also looks at some deeper issues like anxiety and emotionally unavailable parents. I think the author handled these topics well.

If you love a small town second chance romance, with a strong headed FMC this one is for you.

Whilst this is the second book in the series you can read this as a standalone.

*****spoilers ahead*****

I absolutely L O V E D this book! The banter, everything fall and cozy, the friendships between characters, the coffee shop, the mental health rep 🤩 I laughed, cried and wanted to throw the book across the room from sheer giddiness and excitement for the characters.

My only initial complaint was that there was the classic miscommunication trope (not my fav at all) but even that was so well done to the point that I ate it right up.

This series is marketed as being interconnected standalone books which they are, but I will absolutely be reading the first book in the series, Winter Getaway, because I'm a ✨backstory girly✨ and those characters feature heavily in Maple Leaves & Lattes. I would recommend that to anyone else wanting to read this book as well.

If you like fall, coffee, men who fall first and a community of wonderful people who show up for their friends then you absolutely need to read this book!
