Return to the Twilight Zone in this all-new anthology series featuring stories by some of the best creators in comics today! Each issue is a new tale in the vein of the iconic original television series that’s captivated audiences for over 60 years. And like the show, these stories will be revealed in terrifying black and white! THIS Writer Dan Watters ( Dark Patterns, Home Sick Pilots) and artist Morgan Beam (Swamp Twin Branches) present “Blank.” A terrified citizen regales a detective with a story about people suddenly frozen like statues. A once-bustling metropolis becomes quieter by the minute as people are replaced by featureless versions of themselves. Where one would have found hopes, laughter, tears, and struggles, one can now only find BLANKS…here in The Twilight Zone.
Dan Watters is a UK based comic book writer. His first book, LIMBO, was released through Image Comics in 2016. He has since written THE SHADOW at Dynamite Comics, and ASSASSIN’S CREED and WOLFENSTEIN for Titan Comics.
Currently he is writing the relaunch of LUCIFER for Vertigo’s Sandman Universe, as well as DEEP ROOTS for Vault Comics. Deeply rooted in London Town, and firmly of the Devil's party.
I will always try to catch whatever comes out TZ - such a fan of the original series! This captures some of the essence of some of the original episodes; a very wealthy man funding research on immortality (sound familiar) but who is dying from an incurable disease. Several layers of ethical questions here - will look for more!
I love the Twilight Zone, I love B&W comics, and Watters wrote one of the best books of the past few years with Batman Dark Patterns. Ultimately, an appropriate enough pastiche with cool artwork. I’ll follow this series and see what plays out.
Cool concept, but the execution just didn’t land for me. The story felt flat and never really pulled me in — more dull than eerie. Artwork had some atmosphere, but overall I was pretty bored. A miss for me.
Although it has promise, this story is really a pale imitation of the original TV show. It's hard to capture Serling's vision, especially in a short comic format. The Goodreads summary has nothing to do with the actual story, by the way. This story concerns a wealthy man who invests in a serum that will "cure" aging. Of course, things don't go as advertised. The black-and-white artwork by Morgan Beem is rough, although it does convey the sense of the story.
I like the concept and art in this issue. Kind of a boring premise though. Seemed a bit lazy plot wise, and I am left scratching my head because, #1 issues are supposed to hook you in. Its supposed to wow your socks off. I habe no doubt it will be a good series with great art, but this first issue was kind of a put off. Maybe if this was a bit longer, it would help it, but this plot was weak. Grab it on sale in a month or so.
The art here isn't really that good to me personally, it's fine I guess. The story is flat as others have said, it feels as if I'm watching a filler episode in anime, not captivating but not terrible enough where I have to put it down. I am still interested to see what the other issues are about though.
As a huge fan of the twilight zone series, this was a must read, and did not disappoint, it captures the essence and spirit of one of the great entertainment properties of all time… highly recommended for fans of the series! Great artwork and a fun story are both represented here, excited to see where the series goes.
