I’m one of three, and nobody’s first pick. I never have been, and I don’t want to be unless it’s on NHL Draft Night. College hockey, then go pro, that’s the path to the dream. And along the way, I’ve played the games, gone to the parties, and gotten the bad rap. I’ve done whatever it takes to get to this point, and I’m willing to throw it all away for a demon girl who not only has me by the balls, but by my stupid heart. Nice isn’t in my vocabulary, but Edison Santos has me saying things I never thought I’d say… including yes to settling a score and taking a slapshot at my own redemption. My lifelong dream might end up on thin ice, but I’d risk it all for her.
All I have to my name is the one bag I pulled out of the garbage and a lifetime of emotional baggage that’s too dirty to unpack. When you grow up like I did, you don’t dare to dream of what could be or fantasize about fairytales and happily ever afters. Instead, you walk through your nightmares and try to survive the night. I’ve clawed my way through all nine of my lives, and I’m willing to die trying to outlive the ghosts of my past if it means I get a chance at having a future with him. The line between love and hate is as thin as the veil between now and then, and I’ve ended up crossing into new territory when it comes to the Havenwood Devils hockey star Hunter Pendejo Wilton… even if he does suck at math.
I have been waiting for Hunter’s story since book 1. I didn’t even read book 2. I just wanted his and Edison’s story. But I was extremely disappointed.
1. Everything is dramatic. I’m sorry but I hated the use of caps locks to identity when people are yelling…it seemed very kid-ish.
2. What’s with the unironic use of the word “unalive”. That’s not even a real word. This is a book…why are we using TikTok terms?
3. Why is a seemingly white woman writing a Latinx character that is a stereotypical hotheaded person who only speaks in Spanish when she’s angry and calls her boyfriend ‘papi’ in bed? I’m not Latina so I can’t say if it is weird but it definitely reads weird.
4. So many plotlines are incomplete by the time the book ends? What happens with Hunter and his parents’ relationship? What about Edison and Gabriel? Why do Gabe and Edison never have a chance to just talk one on one if you were going to give him a redemption story? Payton too…
5. This book wants me to take it seriously but then you get Hunter screaming at gangsters with guns to stop yelling at his girlfriend…lmfao pls be fr.
6. Also why does Edison go from being this bad ass b- to all of a sudden needing to hide behind Hunter whenever anyone makes the slightest noise?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Edison is seriously a firecracker and gives Hunter a run for his money but he doesn’t care..
He is down BAD for this girl…
He has never been in a relationship before and usually just sleeps around with multiple girls at a time…
Edison knows his reputation and can’t stand his handsome ass😝 It all started with math tutoring…
Edison’s past comes rushing back to mess with her present and it gets messy….
Hunter is willing to risk everything for this girl…
Ed fights her feelings for him but he says all the right things and he does things for her no one else has… He wants to take care of his girl even though she doesn’t wana let him….
This is a slow burn… Spice hits about 60% if I remember correctly and his mouth is 🔥
I love that Hunter never gave up on her and broke down the thick walls she has up to protect herself…
I’ve said this a million times before but Max and Evie will forever and always be my favorite😍

“What are you doing?” She asks as she bites her lip. Fucking, sexy little menace. “Admiring you. You look so fucking beautiful on your hands and knees with my name and number on your back, Ed.”
This was a wild departure from the other books in the series, and the very limited vocabulary of these characters to this point was unbearable. The random rants in basic Spanish thrown in was giving: my cousin after a semester abroad.
I’m willing to suspend some belief for a good storyline but I just can’t picture her backstory leading to a successful college career while also being homeless and shoplifting in a small town. A small town in Virginia that is run by a mafia family…?
I’m super disappointed, as I was looking forward to this couple’s story.
Oh my god! I have been waiting so long for hunters book and he did not disappoint me one bit! I loved seeing Edison become a bit more vulnerable and learning to trust Hunter as well. Check trigger warnings before reading as this book is on the darker side for a hockey romance. It’s a slow burn but I was so here for it when they finally got it on. I think this might actually be my fave in the series!
