Dominion Hall #8

The Reaper: A Billionaire Military Romance

Rate this book
They say you can’t serve two masters.
But I was trying to serve a hundred—

My restaurant, my reputation, the impossible standards I’d wrapped around myself like armor.

I built Promenade from nothing. I clawed my way into the culinary world one reservation, one review at a time.

There was no room for distractions.

Especially not men.

Then Caleb Dane walked in.

New in town. Quiet. Lethal.

He didn’t say much that first night, just sat alone and watched.

But somehow, I felt it—that weight of his stare, the danger in his stillness.

It was like being hunted in plain sight, and something inside me—something buried—rose to meet him.

I told myself he was just a customer.

Then he came back. Again and again.

Not for the food.

Not for the view.

For me.

He says he wants to keep me safe.

But I’ve seen the look in his eyes.

There’s nothing safe about Caleb Dane.

He’s not just a man—he’s a force of nature.

Unmovable. Unrelenting. And already circling.

I’ve spent years controlling every detail of my life.

But the second I let him touch me, I knew—

I wasn’t in control anymore. He was.

Because when Caleb wants something, he takes it.

And when he decides it’s his?

There’s no escape. No negotiation. No second chances.

I thought I was building a legacy.

Turns out, I was building a cage.

And he just walked in with the key.

Betrayal will burn.

And the men of Dominion Hall?

They’ll bury anyone who dares to touch what’s theirs.

Jack Flynn co-writes dark billionaire military romance with Lainey Ray.

Jack is a former military man with a sharp mind, a devilish smirk, and a habit of taking control—in fiction and otherwise. He likes his books like he likes his combat strategies: fast-paced, explosive, and leaving no survivors. When he’s not crafting tactical missions and deadly antiheroes, you can find him reading action thrillers, watching war movies, or engaging in other kinds of action we won’t discuss here.

Jack brings the precision, the danger, and the raw intensity to every Jack & Lainey book. He knows exactly how to build a hero who commands a room, claims a woman, and takes down anyone who dares to stand in his way.

Rumor has it, Jack never loses control … unless Lainey’s involved.

The Reaper introduces the first son of Byron Dane's second family, that was one of the surprise twists at the end of The Ghost, book eight of the Dominion Hall series. Caleb Dane's nickname, The Reaper, was earned because he's stealthy, deadly and takes care of business. Being summoned to Charleston for unknown reasons didn't sit well with him but catching a glimpse of Meghan Delaney in the altogether may have made the trip worthwhile or if nothing else, more interesting. Meghan is chef/restaurateur, singularly focused with one goal in mind, a Michelin star rating. To that end she's driven, tireless, demanding and successfully making her restaurant, The Promenade, "the dining destination" of Charleston. She's trying to achieve her parents' dream as a means of penance. Caleb lights something inside her she's always kept buried deep. He stands beside her, protects her and celebrates her triumphs without taking away her independence. Because she's threatened, he finds the real power behind being a Dane. Unlimited resources, assistance, backup and far reaching connections. Because being family is everything.

Feeling so mixed with this Review

I’m obviously reading the series and I’m enjoying it enough to continue. I actually really enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters. They’re banned her. Their seduction and sex scenes are amazing but here’s where the authors lost me. It felt like lazier writing. How many times does Caleb climb two stairs at a time at least eight it’s infuriating. It confused me as a reader made me feel like am I reading the same sentence again did I mess up my Kindle but no, it just kept repeating the same phrases over and over like it was trying to just fill in a word count .as a reader, I didn’t appreciate it. That’s not the only instance they do it a lot and sometimes within seconds word for word.

The Reaper is a great introduction to the Montana brothers and a fresh shift in the Dominion Hall Series. Caleb, though forged in war like the Charleston Dane brothers, brings a softer, more introspective presence that sets him apart in a really satisfying way. The pacing starts slower, but the tension, danger, and underlying mystery still pull you in.

Meghan is a strong MFC and a perfect match for Caleb’s steadier, quieter strength. Their dynamic feels balanced and believable, and it anchors the story beautifully. This book opens the door to a brand‑new arc, The Vanguard, and I’m absolutely ready for more from the Montana side of Dominion.

A solid, intriguing continuation of the series.

A perfect fit

I wondered how this integration would work. It was seamless. Meghan, a workaholic with an unhealthy goal. Matched with Caleb, her life gets a full reset. When faced with threat, she has to lean on someone when just herself, isn't enough anymore. Caleb comes when called by dominion, but these aren't your average orders. This is his future calling. He just doesn't understand it yet. What a fantastic segue into the next chapter for the Danes.

and in walks “the brothers”…

Part two of this epic series that has kept me awake until way into the night, pulling me in with its emotional claws, just as every episode that preceded it, does not disappoint! All the stars..for a well-written love and war drama that makes your pulse quicken and your body heat. 🌶️ Moving forward with heavy anticipation!

Wordsmith magic!

I read a LOT and I am so happy I found these books!
Wordsmith perfection all wrapped up in a rollercoaster ride. The details and care with the characters is amazing and makes for supreme reading pleasure!
I normally get semi bored sometimes and skip to the back to see if I should continue with a book!
Not with these they are worth every word.

Outstanding!

Book 8 of the series, but Book 1 of the Montana Dane Brothers. Personally, I think Caleb's story is the best of the series so far, but if the rest of the Montana Danes are as good as this one, they gonna rock!

Review

I have enjoyed each and everyone of the books! Can't wait to start the next one. The suspense of who is in the shadows, trying to destroy the Dane's.
