This is a fascinating read, even if you're not familiar with the quaint town of Occidental. The author guides you through the incredible story of a 19th century man whose photo I could imagine you might find in the dictionary under the word "gumption". He reinvents himself in the face of adversity with equal parts humor and drama and a dash of pathos. This book is an immersive step back in time. Enjoy.
