Love wins in the end. Another banger by Tingle! Poppy’s night job (you’ll never guess). The horror elements. The use of time in story. Brilliant. Thank you Net Galley for the ARC!
Love is real is the central thesis of Chuck Tingle's books -- and it's clear as day in Fabulous Bodies.
This book is described as Beetlejuice meets Drive, and it is a blast to read. It's also deeply emotional, moving, and will get you choked up towards the end (which typically happens to me reading Chuck's books, as I adore every single one). I laughed, I cried, my jaw dropped at times, this book really had everything. You can't help but reflect on yourself as you read, too, the introspection adding another layer of depth.
There's a lot that I loved while I was reading, and it's hard to put all my thoughts on page, but if you take anything from my review, I hope it's this: Fabulous Bodies is a story of hope, of changing for the better, of coming into yourself as a person, and most importantly, a story for and about love.
Fabulous Bodies is a book that proves love, every single time.
Poppy, the main character (and influencer and grave robber), was the perfect person to tell this story -- in fact, I think she needed to be the one telling this story. And Eddie Michaels, well, what a fascinating concept for a character in so many ways, as well as being a brilliant foil to Poppy. He was a blast to read, even when I was angry with him and his antics.
Fabulous Bodies is gory, it's glorious, it's funny, but most importantly, it'll hit you right in your heart.
As a bookseller I was absolutely honored to read this in advance from NetGalley!
Anyone who visits my store knows that I am OBSESSED with Chuck Tingle, so when I saw this was available on NetGalley I literally shrieked and ran to the site to grab it!
It DID NOT disappoint!
Per usual, everything Chuck Tingle writes is pure gold. We are dropped into a nail-biting but hilarious situation, experience top tier banter, and see character development that keeps us fully invested from start to finish. I couldn’t put this one down, and neither will you!
Chuck, whatever you’re doing, please keep doing it forever and ever. And of course: LOVE IS REAL!
Addictive and gripping from start to finish! I’m usually weary when I see a book compared to big names (i.e Beetlejuice and Drive) but I couldn’t name a better comparison for this! This was so good I was having a hard time putting it down to get stuff done. The writing was fantastic and the character development was poignant and jaw-droppingly well done. This is definitely an intense and gory read, but one you’re not going to want to miss!
Every single Chuck Tingle book feels better than the last and this doesn’t break that trend in the slightest. Campy, original, and sappy in just the right way—blown away, but not surprised as a long-time Tingler.
Chuck continues to surprise and delight me, I think his books are going one direction and they pivot in the most unique and terrifying ways. This was fresh, fun and unique, and plenty gross as expected.
