Won this as a Goodreads giveaway. THIS was the self help book that made me realize that I don’t want to read self help books anymore. I am adjusting my giveaways to stop asking for them now and I wanna get through the few I still have in my TBR.

Every single page was the same self help tropes over and over again. Now don’t get me wrong, if you only read one self help book this could be perfect for you but if you get a pile of them and read them all this one would be just another book among the rest.

The author constantly skirts this line between wanting to make this about self or about religion which is understandable seeing how they are an ordained minister. By trying to cater to the faith crowd while also keeping it open to atheist the message sometimes comes off weird. Just choose a direction and commit to it.

Divine messaging aside, it was an easy read and I feel an appropriate length. Each chapter could be read carefully in 15 minutes a day. Meditate, breathe, make silent retreats, love yourself, forgive yourself, stay off social media, etc. yada yada…

Giving it 3 stars since there was nothing bad about it. Just nothing outstanding either.

To finish this out I will quote the great Fiona Apple at the 1997 MTV music awards: “just go with yourself”

A great self-help book. A lot of repeatable phrases and ideas throughout the book. It was easy to read and follow. But again, very repetitive which if cut out, I think would’ve made it better. Definitely need to take your time with and do the prompts to get the full process.

I won this as part of a goodreads giveaway. There were some thought provoking passages throughout this book. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm much of a self help book reader. I will be unhauling this to a little free library so it can be properly appreciated by someone who is.

Review of advance copy received from Goodreads Giveaways

🩷 Won in a giveaway 💛

As far as self help books go, this one was pretty good. It talks about gratitude, not comparing yourself to others, affirmations and other things I do. Reading about them again is always a good reminder though! It talks about journaling which I've tried in the past, but I find that it doesn't really work for me. I am going to pass this book onto a friend who I think will also benefit from it. I do recommend. Thank you to the author, Michelle Wadleigh, St. Martin's Essentials and Goodreads for my advance reader copy. Happy reading! 🫂
