Falling For A Champion: Behind The Ropes

Rate this book
They say wrestling is scripted. That everything we do is planned. But nothing—and I mean nothing—prepared me for Brielle Hart. She was never supposed to be part of my comeback. I was just here to reclaim my title, prove I’m still the main event. But the second creative slapped her name next to mine, the game changed. She’s bold, brash, and bites back every time I push. And damn if I don’t want to see how far she’ll let me take it. I’ve fought too hard for my spot in this company to be sidelined as someone’s ringside arm candy—even if that someone is Killian O’Connell, the golden boy of GWC. He thinks he can rattle me. Thinks I’ll fall in line just because the cameras are rolling. But I’m not here to play nice. I’m here to fight—for my place, for my future, and maybe… for a man I swore I wouldn’t fall for.

It was meant to be business. But under the bright lights of the ring, with tension burning hotter than any spotlight, the line between storyline and real life starts to blur.

Enemies to lovers. Forced proximity. One wrestling tour. Two championship dreams. And a chemistry they can’t fake.

Growing up I was a huge WWE fan and was so excited for the story, but I don't like insta love, were the relationship is just physical. The middle of the story felt repetitive and the ending rushed.

Yee-freaking-haw for my first contemporary romance!
Was really excited to read this one since my partner and I are into wrestling!
I don’t think wrestling knowledge is required for you to read this but it will absolutely help when it comes to the in-ring action as well as understanding some of the dynamics in Gorilla.
The style this is written in works really well for the high intensity, very dramatic setting/lifestyle of a wrestler and I think that was a really cool way to show it!
The dialogue is 90% banter and I wish the MC’s had more straight forward conversations as their relationship developed. That being said the banter is fantastic though, I just wish they had a few more moments of vulnerability with each other.
Great, very fun read! Excited for the next one and glad it’s following our other couple and excited to see their story!

Talk about Falling for a Champion, I fell for Killian and Brielle. Hard!

What starts as a forced pairing for storyline purposes quickly becomes a battle of pride, ambition, and chemistry that refuses to stay confined to the cameras.

The banter, the spice, the “You’re Mine” is everything you want in an enemies-to-lovers romance and just proves some sparks can’t be choreographed.

I absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait for Aurora and Aiden’s story next year!

Thank you Abbey for giving me the opportunity to ARC read this.

Falling for the Champion starts with a genuinely appealing concept and the kind of setup that promises a fun, comforting romance. The chemistry is there, and the story is easy to get through. However, the writing quickly becomes repetitive, with the same emotions, descriptions, and character thoughts circling again and again. Many moments that could have felt tender instead come off as overly dramatic or unintentionally cringe, especially in the dialogue. With stronger editing and more variety in tone, this could have been a much more impactful read.

The story - perfect!
The characters - incredible!
The writing… let me down.

This could have been a 5 star, it had 5 star potential but the writing style just wasn’t for me.

If you can push past an iffy writing style for an amazing story then you’ll like this.

First of all I’ve never read a wrestling romance so I jumped at the chance when I saw this book, there is only so many hockey romances that can be read it was great to see a different sport for once!

I liked the main characters, I think they matched well and even though it is forced pairing I enjoyed that they were a bit flirty before it felt more realistic.

It has chemistry, banter, spice and everything you want in a romance it is more colleagues/friends-to-lovers. They are never really enemies?

I Absolutely loved this book and I can't wait for Aurora and Aiden's story next! I will definitely be keeping an eye out for anymore books from this author.

….. There was 1 or 2 mistakes where a scene had details happen twice which I think was just missed in editing otherwise it would have been 4 ⭐️!

Tropes:
*Sport Romance
*Forced Proximity
*Enemies To Lovers

This is the first Wrestling sports romance book i have read and i was obsessed with it from start to finish. This book has a great plot as well as chemistry that radiates off the pages. The MMC Killian has just came back after an injury and is a well known wrestler he is about to begin his comeback. Brielle is also a wrestler. Their bosses team them up and write a script that they are to act to be together for Killian’s comeback. I loved seeing their relationship go from enemies to lovers. they had great chemistry as well as banter.
