Unlike my book buddy Jahda, I love the secret baby trope and KC did her big one with Only For Me. What do you do when you win back to back Super Bowls, you’re the star quarterback of the Crescent Falls Sharks, and you’re the Super Bowl MVP? You find something or someone to get into and, that’s just what Omiri did. He meets a lil honey, they strike up a conversation, have a few drinks, and well you can guess how the night ended. Surprisingly, Omiri feels a connection with his mystery lady. Unfortunately for him, she’s already gone the next morning when he awakens. But, fate will make sure they run into each other again.
When Makari gets invited to a Super Bowl party, she never expected to meet Omiri Hayes and she damn sure didn’t expect to end the night in his bed. But, that night left more than a lasting impression. Alexa play Billy Jean. 🎶She told my baby we'd danced 'til three, then she looked at me. Then showed a photo of a baby cryin', her eyes were like mine. 🎶 Heavy on her eyes were like mine. 😏😏😏😏 When Makari finds out she's pregnant, she already knew she would be a single mama. Omiri has publicly stated, more than once, he has no desire to have kids. So, Kari made the decision to keep her pregnancy a secret and raise Avi alone. But, that’s the thing about secrets. They don’t stay secret for long.
Omiri was definitely a character you hated to love. He was rude, he had a slick mouth, and he didn’t care who he offended. But, my guy was dealing with a lot of childhood trauma from his trash azz parents and, when you add the death of his brother to an already heavy burden he's packin', that just sent him spiraling. But, I have to give Omiri his cool points. When he found out about baby Avi, he immediately stepped up and made the necessary moves to become an active part of her life. The road to love was a short one because the minute Lil Miss Aviana flashed that gummy smile and gripped his beard, Omiri was a goner. It was my daughter, my daughter, my daughter. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Only For Me was such a good book. It could’ve easily been a five star read but, there were certain parts of the storyline that weren’t fleshed out properly. Whatever happened with Omiri’s agent?!!! The situation between him and Tony had the potential to be some good drama but, the author did more telling than showing on page. I wanted to see him confront Tony about the leaked the pictures and I wanted to see Omiri fire him on page. It’s not really made clear if Omiri cuts his parents off and, the fact that he supports them financially when they all but told this man to his face they don’t love him, really pisses me off. The drama with Makari and her mama could’ve been omitted altogether because, it just felt like filler. There are several things I would’ve liked done differently but, overall, I really enjoyed the book and I would highly recommend you add it to your TBR.

I’m not a fan of secret baby tropes but KC did her thing with this one. I’m loving the twist KC is putting on traditional tropes and storylines in her book releases this year. I really did enjoy the story I do wish we got more when it came to Omiri’s trauma and survivors guilt. I’m glad that he found happiness and a family in Avi and Kari but it felt like a bandaid on his internal wounds.

Now when I read the “Note to Reader” I was bracing for impact because I just knew everybody was about to work my nerves but I was pleasantly surprised.
Call me a sucker but I loved Omiri from his first appearance! From the moment he stared into the reflection of his own eyes he was on go - all gas and not letting up! It felt like he was courting Makari before either of them admitted it and I love that aspect. I’m a reader that wants to feel the dating, read about the behind the scenes, experience the deep moments with them and these two delivered. I enjoyed all the little dates, the adorable moments with Avi, the simplicity of a hand in the cheek and all that it meant. Omiri and Makari were perfectly flawed in a way that still made them whole.
As the self proclaimed Mayor of Crescent Falls I’m keeping track of who we need a story from next because we love the side characters too!

Always down for the secret baby trope—add that to some good sports romance, and I’m always in. There’s just something about a man becoming weak in the knees for his child that gets me every time. The biggest highlight for me is that this is a character-driven story, and we get to see Omiri navigate his new normal throughout the book. I loved that as soon as he found out he had a daughter, he was all in, making moves to be the best father he could be for baby Avianna from day one. It didn’t hurt that he was sweet on Makari too.
Another plus: Makari has her own goals and aspirations and really doesn’t need Omiri for anything. I sighed in relief when she decided to accept Omiri, with all the privileges that came with him—don’t be a fool, baby, let this man and this name give you the soft life! LOL. I also appreciated that Makari created a safe space for Omiri to be vulnerable without judgment. That was another highlight for me.
Outside of these moments, the book was an okay read. There was a lot of telling rather than showing in certain scenes. For example, the transitional week Omiri spent with his girls should have been shown on-page. The “awful parents” narrative felt like filler because nothing substantial happened or was resolved—no conversations, no indication if he cut them off. Similarly, what happened with his former manager? Did he leak information about baby Avi? It wasn’t addressed.
I also expected a little more when it came to handling the person who killed his brother since he struggled so much with his passing. While it was handled by someone else to protect him, seeing this on-page would have strengthened the story. At a certain point, the storyline began to feel repetitive
Overall, the book had moments I enjoyed, but as a whole, it wasn’t my favorite voice from this author.

One night to Forever
I love me a good Sports Romance and this one didn't disappoint.
Makari and Omiri connect after his Superbowl win. They have a night that neither one of them can forget and the result is a special gift. Omiri was rough around the edges, but I enjoyed him softening first to his babygirl Avi and then to Kari. Kari was hesitant to trust Omiri because he was known for shouting from the rooftops about not wanting children. I'm not a fan of surprise baby tropes, but it wasn't drawn out forever and she didn't play crazy once he was aware. I also think that it helped that his actions made her a believer. He kept showing up with that slick mouth and his arrogance, but always with good intentions. Omiri's fame and the people around them caused drama, but I loved that they had an easy love. I was glad that he was able to push past his trauma and accept the love he deserved.
This was a good book, but I didn't like the lack of closure on things that didn't even have to be included. They went out of there way to talk about the Mercedes family endorsement, but never mentioned when the car got delivered. Was the ad received well, nothing 🥴. The agent situation had no resolution, he got a new agent but there wasn't even a conversation with the old one? No consequences either?? Tiana was Kari's best friend but she was no where to be found at key moments in their lives at the end of the book, definitely a missed opportunity.
Overall, still a good read and I do recommend.

I won’t lie for a lil bit I was a lil over KC like the last few releases were dry, I couldn’t get into them for the life of me. I just felt like her characters started to get a bit too vague leaving me with more questions than answers. This story here was really good lol I had to talk myself off the ledge in the beginning because both of our main characters were annoying and super stubborn. I do wish we either left the parent storyline out of it or got one big blow up or something cus they were on BS the whole story with nothing coming of it forreal. I do think they should’ve pushed harder for therapy cus I’m never into black women being dumping grounds for trauma and heartache in the name of love especially when they mental isn’t the strongest ( she went through PPD) and was dealing with her own mommy issues. Overall though it ended well the couple was cute and in love and the baby was being raised right regardless of the circumstances.

His Mom night be slightly ahead of her mom by a few inches in the ain't sweet parent. I liked the village of friends who supported Makari, Avi, and Omiri. I am not sure either would have survived without them. Once Kari and Omiri started to click, it was like watching magic happen. I adored this couple and their love story.

2nd Read was the newly released audiobook released audiobook narrated by NTMN…that really didn’t do this story justice….i’m so happy I read this story myself back in August….this read is more like ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2….both narrators had really good cadence and tone with a lot of potential…just don’t read to me…I enjoy more acting. Also edit the mistakes out…please….I don’t need to hear how many times you start over.

I’m a fan of second-chance romance and the secret baby trope, and this book delivered exactly that. The story was easy to follow and kept my interest the whole way through.
Makari was likable and I appreciated how she stayed focused on her daughter instead of being swayed by Omiri’s fame. Omiri definitely had his flaws, but it was nice seeing him actually try and step up rather than everything being instantly forgiven or brushed aside.
Overall, it's a solid 4★ for me, I liked it. It had some predictable moments, but that didn’t really bother me because it fit the story and the tropes. I’d recommend it if you’re in the mood for something easy, a little emotional, and centered around second chances and family.

Kari and O completely stole my heart. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Some might say Kari was wrong in how she handled things, but in the moment, she truly did what was best for everyone. O wasn’t ready back then but once he crossed paths with Kari again and he laid his eyes on Avi something shifted in both his mind and heart and he leaned into it.
I loved the banter between Kari and O and how they took the time to truly learn each other. O had a lot of healing to do and with Kari and Avi by his side he was able to face it.
And Avi was full of personality and such a bright force ultimately the one who brought her stubborn parents together.
I was glad to see Kari and O finally let go of their toxic parents because honestly they were shit.

Potent chemistry
This story is a prime example of fate happening when it's supposed to. Omiri and Makari bumping into each other on a random night at a very late time can only be destiny. I didn't like the way neither one handled things in the beginning, but as the story went along, I loved them for each other. The chemistry and connection were potent. Once the truth is confirmed, Omiri changes his phuck boy ways and really dives into being a dad and family. I love the growth that both Makari and Omiri endure throughout this story. I laughed, got teary, and was smiling hard as I read. I really enjoyed this story and certainly recommend.

⭐️3.5 I wanted to love this book so bad because of all the tropes I like were in it. Just didn’t connect with it. Took me 8 days to read it 😩 The epilogue gave me all the feels. I wish that feeling was throughout the book.
What I did enjoy was Omiri, Makari, & Avi on page and reading about them parenting together 🥰

I truly loved this story! It was engaging and deeply emotional book.
The main characters, Makari and Omiri, are complex and relatable. Makari's constant stubbornness was quite annoying to read at times, creating significant conflict. Omiri was dealing with overwhelming family issues and pain. I admired how he recognized his need for love and help, successfully making necessary changes without losing his core identity.
The side characters, especially the parents, were highly frustrating. Both characters' mothers were trifling! Makari's mother came across as intensely selfish and judgmental. Omiri’s mother, and her decision to blame her grief on him seemed irrational. And to top it all off his father's actions were equally disappointing.
Despite the challenging family dynamics, the novel successfully tells the compelling story of two people navigating their pain and finding connection. It is a highly recommended read.

I think our main characters are perfect for each other because they are both stupid and they just compliment each others stupid. Was the “urban romance” in the room with us because I don’t truly understand how this is supposed to be an urban romance book? Mind you the author considered this to be an urban romance book but truly it was barely even a sports romance book. The first chapter started off so quick and I really thought things were only going to get better from there but no…The whole book was just lust and the spicy chapter almost drove me to pull out my hair. I don’t care how attractive a guy is to me if he called my inside “Guts” I would actually call the police! Once I check out with the smut scenes yea the author has definitely lost me fully!! I hated our female main character by chapter two then I was slowly driven into hating our male main character. On top of that random side characters were added towards the end that I couldn’t care a single ounce for.
I think our main characters are perfect for each other because they are both stupid and they just compliment each others stupid. Was the “urban romance” in the room with us because I don’t truly understand how this is supposed to be an urban romance book? Mind you the author considered this to be an urban romance book but truly it was barely even a sports romance book. The first chapter started off so quick and I really thought things were only going to get better from there but no…The whole book was just lust and the spicy chapter almost drove me to pull out my hair. I don’t care how attractive a guy is to me if he called my inside “Guts” I would actually call the police! Once I check out with the smut scenes yea the author has definitely lost me fully!! The book left me wanting a bit more. I did enjoy the romance between the main characters, and while Omiri definitely had to grow on me (he was annoying at first), I ended up liking where they landed. That said, I kept waiting for more to actually happen.
I really thought their careers would create more tension or obstacles in the relationship, but every issue was wrapped up almost immediately, so we never got to really sit with the conflict. The characters were dealing with some heavy stuff, Omiri grieving his brother and Makari learning to let someone else take care of her, but it all felt just a bit surface level. I liked this book, but I really wanted to love it.

Secret Baby Sports Romance count me in !
I really enjoyed this new read K.C. mills put out. Characters Makari and Omiri were two people who had enough trauma to last them and in their own bubbles of healing, self destructing, self lost they found each other after certain circumstances happened and it’s all because it was meant to be!
Lil Avianna made it so much cuter with her infantry of adorableness. I thoroughly enjoyed this story as they navigated through all the loss, hope and finally love.
P.s the authors note from the beginning was exactly what was needed to say and I appreciated it. Can’t wait to read more of her work 🫶

Oh how I fell in love with Omeri so bad! His character development was so well written! He went through so much much trauma. I love how he stepped up and did a straight 360 change. Makari and Omeri both needed each other. She was so guarded but he was a force that loved her out loud, breaking down all barriers! Love the plot, love the storyline. I’m just a sucker for a good secret pregnancy trope. KC Mills is such an amazing author and deserves all the praises! I haven’t read one bad book!

I haven't met a KC Mills book I haven't Liked. This book was so good. I will say this...The FMC got on my last nerve the first half of this book. Like really bad. She was fighting hard. This man done seen you girl why you so mad? I'm not a huge fan on running. Like you don't have to be easy, put up a little fight but damn girl. All in all this is a must read. I just had to get it in physical copy.

Now you know I’m not usually here for the secret baby trope. Like… keep that over there. But KC Mills might’ve just changed my mind, because whew, this one actually hit. She got that whole “secret” part out the way early, and thank God, because that slow-burn reveal nonsense usually sends me right to the DNF pile 😂.
Makari Phoenix and Omiri Hayes had one unforgettable night—one that left Kari with more than just memories 👀. And while she was ready to leave that night (and that man) in the past, that positive pregnancy test had other plans. She chose to face motherhood alone, especially after seeing Omiri very publicly say he wasn’t about that daddy life. Her decision made sense. Until fate brought him face to face with her… and the tiny human with his exact eyes.
Omiri was out here fresh off a Super Bowl win but fighting demons that were threatening to take everything from him. But the moment he saw Kari again—with their daughter in tow—it was game on. How could I not enjoy it, it had all the tropes I love: sports/celebrity romance, secret baby, and found family. While I did enjoy Omiri and Makari’s story, it was a bit disappointing.
Because the introduction sort of presented Omiri as being reckless and unpolished, I expected him to be somewhat grittier and unhinged. And he came across more broken and lonely. Also, the intro mentioned their mothers; who really didn’t make any meaningful appearance until more than 70% into the story.
Mistakenly, I thought it would have more drama and the parental issues would’ve been included in more of the storyline. Which isn’t true, so when it came up towards the end, it felt like a side thought and didn’t land for me. Another thing, we never learned about who leaked the info.
Lastly, I know it made sense for Kari’s lifestyle to change. The switch up was quick as hell. Mama went from I don’t need you for anything to, splurging on his card to get his attention. 🗣️HUH?! Also, not mad at it. Just that was fast. Plus, she switched up on Tiana real fast. In the beginning she was calling her often and guilting her for working. To not having her bestie at the wedding. Glad it was addressed.
Again, overall the couples story was sweet and enjoyable. Just the minor details were sort of left hanging (i.e., what happened to Tony, the leak, etc).
I’m hoping we get more from this world… maybe Ryland or McClain are up next.

Love & baby!
It takes a lot to get me to like the secret baby trope, but this book does it well in my opinion. Omiri doesn't spend too much time out of his daughter's life, and to some extent I could understand Makari's reasoning for keeping the baby from him. I loved how the relationship between them progressed; Omiri just bulldozed his way into their lives and tore down Kari's preconceived notions of him. I did think the family trauma aspect of the book sort of took away from the storyline for me, though. It felt super heavy and didn't feel entirely resolved to me.

This book was so freaking good I was not ready for how much of an amazing read this was… I loved reading about Omiri and Makari falling in love with each other and baby Avi was there for the ride just being spoiled and loved on and nurtured in the best way… This was such a feel good read to me despite the little chaos and the heaviness of some parts I think was needed to bring this book full circle… Definitely made me want to become a football girlie… I can’t wait for more

These type of books are feel good books - very minimal drama, no beating around the bush regarding how they feel, both are "ready" for the commitment and we get a HEA. I cannot complain when I have all I need in a book.

An endearing unexpected love story. An unorthodox beginning leads to a relationship no one saw coming. The character development and storytelling had me fully invested in seeing this one through. it was engaging and well worth the read.

This is a fast paste sports romance with some spice. While it wasn't my favorite, I did enjoy the complex relationships these two had with each other and how they came together.
