The story of Laird Evans and Fenella Baxter is full of miscommunications, lies, conspiracies, and dangers. Nothing is what it seems, not what happened in the past neither what happens in their present. They most overcome the challenges thrown their way if they want to be in each others life forever.
A book of this lenght I should have finish it in one sitting. However, I found my self putting it down constantly. It took a while to get a hold on me, and for me to connect with the characters. The FMC's character bother me too much. The fact that all her decisions were based on a simple event of her past and based on another person. I did loved the MMC, his character, jealousy, possesivenes, and his internal struggles, it was perfect. I felt the story was prolonged too much circulating in the same circumstances over and over again. I don't mind the word "babe", but it was overused in each spicy encounter. I started to think that the book was more focus on the spice than the plot.
However...., The last 20%... I was worried about wanting to read the second book. After the last 20%, I NEED to know what happens next. The mysteries that start to unfold, the discovery of the conspiracies, and the lies, the misunderstanding, everything happens on that last 20%. It leaves with a taste that what comes next is a full set of dangers, and of deeper things that no one could expect. I couldn't put the book down once I reach this point, and I am glad I pushed through.

This was a miss for me. I found the characters to be self absorbed and shallow. I know the MC loves her. In a kind of stalkery way ... but I felt like it was for the wrong reasons. No depth. No growth. The smut was thrown in and weird times. It was smut just have smut.
It's perfect for those that want insta love and one page of story and 5 pages of smut in just about every chapter.

I have to admit at first I found Fenella's character to be a bit immature - I mean who practically builds a career out of the belief to impress the guy who broke her heart once, but as I progressed with the book I realised it was much more than that. I could understand why she made her choices - it might feel like coming from an immature heart but it's more like she wanted to prove that she is nothing less and that she is capable enough of doing anything she wants and I could relate to that particular point about her so much.
Their rekindled connection is passionate but complicated. As the tension builds, Fenella and Laird are forced to confront not only their painful history but also the choices that could destroy their second chance. Rose writes with warmth, emotional honesty, and just the right touch of suspense. I absolutely loved the plot twists and the suspense that this book brought along - it kept me hooked till the end. And can we talk about the cliffhanger at the end? - now I am eagerly waiting for book two of the series.

Okay, this book completely messed with my emotions — in the best way possible. I picked up Winning My Ex-Crush thinking it’d be a fun, spicy romance, but Syanna Rose hit me with so much more than that. For a debut, this was seriously impressive.

Fast forward a few years, Fenella’s a successful model trying to move on with her life, until she runs into Laird again — the last person she ever wanted to see. One reckless night changes everything, and suddenly all those buried feelings come rushing back.
The chemistry between them? Insane. Every interaction is loaded with tension, sarcasm, and a ton of unspoken history. It’s one of those “hate you but can’t stop wanting you” kind of dynamics that keeps you turning the pages way past bedtime.

A second chance, childhood friends to enemies to lovers, this book was a messy, chaotic read, ngl.
But I loved reading it!
A story between a lawyer and a model, I loved Laird & Fenella's characters.
Laird had this emotionally unavailable but still obsessed vibe going on, which worked well with his persona.
I liked Fenella, she reminded me of how certain rejections stay with you for years, even when life moves on and you’re doing “better” on the surface. That quiet insecurity, the what-if thoughts, the need to prove yourself — I saw myself in that.
Being inseparable in childhood and then suddenly growing apart due to something, can take a toll on anybody. But I liked that Fenella doesn’t magically become fearless after her glow-up. She’s still fragile in places, still hesitant, still affected by the past, but healing nonetheless.
The book always showcases the struggles of modelling industry, and some things add a layer of suspense which keeps you hooked. Also the dynamics between Fenella & Laird, their unresolved conversations, the awkwardness, and their explosive chemistry, all added more charm to the story.
This book also reminded me that wanting validation from someone who once hurt you doesn’t make you weak — it makes you human. Fenella’s journey isn’t about revenge; it’s about reclaiming confidence that was taken from her too early. And watching her slowly stop defining herself through someone else’s rejection was quietly satisfying.

'Winning my ex-crush' by Syanna Rose is a Romantic suspense thriller. It revolves around the main leads 'Fenella Baxter' and 'Laird Evans' . They both are childhood Friends who are separated in their teenage years due to a misunderstanding.
There is a dual timeline in this book which is an important part of the story. The Suspense in the story grips one till the end and I was satisfied with the conclusion and looking forward to more of it in the second installment.
Fenella as a Supermodel and Laird as a Lawyer when they meet as adults they just have an amazing chemistry.I hope to see more depth and communication between them in the second part.
Laird is a balanced character and his backstory makes his personality and behavior more understanding.
Themes like 'Bullying' and 'Workplace Harassment' did catch my attention in the book. How both males and Females face this is well depicted in the story. The World of Modelling through Fenella's character is portrayed beautifully and it gets one totally involved in it.
The character of 'Jessy' as Fenella's friend was fun to read and I did enjoy his scenes with her in the book. I hope to see more growth and maturity in Fenella's character as an individual personality.
There were certain scenes of the Supermodel world in the book which reminded me of the Bollywood movie 'Fashion'. Those who watched the movie might agree with me.I would love to see some Bollywood fans here.

Let's start with how this book could've been better as a dark romance, because I found the characters kinda off and red flaggish but it wasn't that bad.
The first half was slow paced with the usual high school drama but the later half was so chaotic I couldn't take my eyes off.
Fenella Baxter, a model who's only dream is to become a super model. She has worked hard to be every magazine's face, every brand's ambassador until her ex crush, or the boy who broke her heart in high school comes into the picture.
Laird Evans, a hot shot lawyer, choosing his father's lineage instead of his own dreams. He has only one goal, to keep it together and breakthrough the tough competition in his father's firm. Until one face at the club distracted him.
What happens when Laird and Fenella meet again after all these years and they both got their glow ups? Worse, they were childhood friends and became enemies just because of one misunderstanding.
The book could've been a lot better had the characters were not so off(ish) but the cliff hanger and the plot twist at the end page had me and now I will just hope the next book would give me what I am looking for!

Winning my ex-crush has me in shambles. The angst and longing had me screaming my head off. I started this book after my exams, but this book had me more stressed from wanting to know what exactly happened.
Fenella (such a pretty name btw) is a character that walks into your life like a storm. Her faith and trust in herself are truly admirable. There are so many instances that were so problematic and she handled it so well and I was impressed. Laird had me swooning and as well as screaming. The longing was just so well written from his perspective. I also loved the way this book portrays how misunderstandings can literally ruin lives.
I absolutely loved the prequel as well. It added more depth to the Fenella and Laird's relationship, and it was lovely to read about the high school life. I am so excited to read the sequel and can't wait to get my hands on it.

I struggled with their characters.
Fenella shaped herself as an adult based on ‘getting back’ at Laird. And honestly, his first interactions with her made him seem pretty shallow. Now that she’s had the glow-up, he’s interested in her?
When secrets finally come out, it reminds you just how silly and immature their characters are, even though the story itself hooks you in.
A HFN, and no resolution…. I guess it’s onto book two.

This second-chance romance had me intrigued from the start! Winning My Ex-Crush follows Fenella Baxter, a model whose career is fading, and Laird Evans the boy who broke her heart on prom night and now wants a second chance.
Their reunion? Messy, emotional, and full of unresolved tension. Add in a powerful new boss with secrets of his own, and you’ve got a story layered with betrayal, mystery, and longing. There’s just the right mix of steam and suspense to keep the pages turning.
While it wasn’t my favourite of the year, I still found it engaging and easy to devour. If you love old flames, big secrets, and fashion-world drama, this one is definitely worth the read!

This story was a heartfelt story between two very messy people. Laird and Fenella have this chemistry and pull between them that just can’t be escaped. Things are sweet and dramatic and chaotic. I couldn’t put the book down, couldn’t stop reading it. There’s history and old wounds there that have to be addressed before a future can be a possibility. Fenella was always the one who got away for Laird. She thought she had buried those feelings long ago. But tequila always brings out the truth. As they worked to deal with their past and their present these two have to work through a lot of feelings and issues. The twists and turns in the story, and their raw emotions, really had me on the rollercoaster right next to them. And that cliffhanger left my flabbers fully gasted. I have to know what happens.

This is a well written second chance romance. This is Fenella and Laird's story. She is a model with a soon fading career and Laird is the ex who broke her heart. When she surprisingly sees Laird again after years apart, she wants to reject him, hate him and make him feel the pain she felt when he hurt her. But those feelings are definitely still there and she can't help herself. After a few too many drinks they are in bed together and their connection is hotter than ever. Laird is determined that he won't let her go this time. Has he really changed? Can love be better the second time around? I really enjoyed this book, the character's lives are complicated and their relationship has some rocky paths ahead but I was really rooting for their HEA.

Winning my Ex-Crush has twists, turns, and the support characters (Jessy and Alan) bring even more to the table. Jessy is dealing with a lot outside of managing Fenella. Alan is not who and what he seems.. he is dangling a carrot in front of Fenella.. and it might not be in her best interest to say yes.

Winning my Ex-Crush is a childhood best friends with miscommunication and unexpected second chances. This is Fenella and Laird’s story with past mistakes that cost them a friendship/ potential relationship. I love the way they came back to each other and tried to work things out but the past still haunts and hurts them. I like how they build the tension and still get jealous over those who talk to them. But they push through and talked it out. I love how they finally open up to that night that changed things but then things started to get twisty at the end and left me wanting to know more. I really enjoyed their story and now have more questions that need answers. I can’t wait to read the next one.
