Along the Mediterranean coast, people are dying or falling ill. Marine life is vanishing. The sea, once a source of life, is becoming a silent threat. No one knows why—or how far it will go. Called in to investigate, Dr. Marco Fassi and his team of scientists uncover unsettling patterns that point to something vast and unseen, pulsing beneath the water. As the phenomenon spreads, they’re forced to confront the terrifying possibility that nature itself is no longer under control.
For fans of Michael Crichton, Franck Schätzing, and eco thrillers grounded in real science, BLOOM delivers a chilling, high stakes mystery where the natural world becomes the greatest threat. Propulsive and eerily plausible, this gripping novel will leave you questioning what lies beneath the surface
"I work in the pharmaceutical industry. As a scientist, I've always loved reading techno-thrillers and dystopian science fiction novels since I was a child—authors like Michael Crichton, Robin Cook, Andy Weir, James Rollins, and others with a similar style. Eventually, I decided to write a novel myself."
This was excellent. I did really enjoy it! I live near the Mediterranean sea, so for me it has an extra interest. A well written story, with great ideas, frightening at moments, a brilliant read! This was the first time I have read this writers work but it will not be the last for sure, I think. I do recommend strongly!
I was really excited to read this as I love the Mediterranean Sea and I always like books that touch on real world issues. As a biologist, I thoroughly enjoyed the science here. However, this was incredibly painful to read. It seemed like it wasn't edited prior to publishing (I started the Kindle edition), with lots of grammar and some spelling mistakes (even dates, like "July 21th" instead of "July 21st"). While I agree that a good author includes detailed descriptions in settings, characters, situations, emotions etc., this one is a little too detailed, making it extremely repetitive and over the top. I'm super disappointed cause this would have made a great story.
4 stars. Digital book. This is a proper novel! The first few chapters had me worried it was a collection of short stories but eventually you stick to 1 main path. The science was over my head but I enjoyed the thoroughness and constant threat of how big of a problem we were actually dealing with.
An enjoyable thriller. Something strange is happening in the Mediterranean, which could have dire consequences for the whole world. The science went way over my head, but I enjoyed it anyway. Recommended reading.
DNF at 12%. The way this book is written was as if the author thinks the reader is not smart enough to create a picture in their own mind. The over-explanation of every small detail was off-putting and annoying
