A no-strings fling with the Wolves’ star hockey player leads to a surprise she never saw coming.
Emery Monroe knows exactly what she wants—and Brett Woods, Walker University’s star hockey player, isn’t it. He’s charming, cocky, and impossible to resist, which is why their late-night hookups were always supposed to stay casual. He was meant to be a fun escape, not a life-changing complication. When their string of reckless nights leads to two pink lines and an impossible choice, Emery’s carefully laid plans spin out of control. She’s not ready to walk away from everything she’s worked for, but she can’t pretend this isn’t real.
Brett isn’t ready to let her go, either. A career-threatening injury forces him off the ice and into Emery’s life in ways neither of them expected. He’s determined to prove he’s more than just a player, and that they could be so much more than a regret. She’s sure he’ll break her heart. He knows she’s worth every risk.
Can they really have it all…or will they lose everything before the final buzzer?
For fans of The Deal by Elle Kennedy and Icebreaker by Hannah Grace, Interference is a swoony, angsty college sports romance you won’t want to put down. Grab your copy today and keep falling for the Walker Wolves!
Cala Riley, better known as Cala and Riley, are a pair of friends with a deep seated love of books and writing. Both Cala and Riley are happily married and each have children, Cala with the four-legged kind while Riley has a mixture of both two-legged and four. While they live apart, that does not affect their connection. They are the true definition of family. What started as an idea that quickly turned into a full-length book and a bond that will never end.
Oh, here we go with a new favorite! Brett and Emery! Nothing is more swoony for me than seeing the playboy transformed into a loving partner and dad! These two had no intention other than nightly, no-strings-attached hookups. Then a positive test derails all of their plans, and major changes and challenges arise. Usually it’s the guy who needs time to accept and adapt to these kinds of changes, but the way Brett takes these in stride will have you melting ONTO the book, unable to not read this in one sitting. For hockey romance lovers- everything about this hit the nail. If you’re unsure of the trope, I can guarantee that this book will have you a fan! The way this author duo can take on different tropes and nail them each time never ceases to shock me. This book was like a warm hug that I couldn’t get enough of. 5 stars!
Brett and Emery's story was so full of emotions. They were just supposed to be friends with benefits, Emery had the Olympic gold in her sight for figure skating. The hot hockey player was just there for fun. Little did she know, he was already head over heels for her. One surprise later, they are thrown even more together when she finds out she's pregnant. Brett was so amazing, he was supportive from the beginning. He didn't want Emery to do anything alone. They try to make a real go at their relationship but outside sources get in the way. Can they overcome everything thrown at them?
Brett has always been in love with Emery. Has been since the moment they met. He went from school playboy to taking anything Emery would give him.
Emery has had her sight set on gold at the Olympics and nothing will get in her way. She's trained her whole life for this moment and she won't let anything let alone a boy disrupt her life. So she doesn't do relationships or drama.
Emery realises that not only will be Brett be there for her and the baby, but he has been all along. He showed it in the way he took subtle care of her, taking notes of their every conversation and remembering details and her preferences. She was just too blind to see it.
This was a great addition to the series. We finally see Brett get his girl and more! The whole gang rallies around Emery and showing her she now has a family she can rely on. So many sweet gestures from the guys throughout her pregnancy.
Can't wait for Wyatt's hea to finally pass! Don't think I didn't notice that little prologue mention.
That Ashley is a real piece of work! Turned into more than just a spiteful jealous roommate. Glad she gets her own back.
Ahh I'm head over heels in love with this series and without a doubt also fell so hard for Emery and Brett! They are both such amazing characters and together they were absolutely perfect; adored every part of their story.
Omg Brett, this man! He stole my heart immediately, the way he is with Emery is the sweetest most precious thing ever! I'm a sucker for the pregnancy trope and it was done wonderfully in this one, I loved seeing him supporting her every step of the way and truly showing with his actions how much she means to him and how he would never let her down. He fell first and definitely hard for her! It took Emery more time to fall but I love how she started to let him in more and getting those deeper feelings. She was the best mom to be and I adored her so much too!
Brett and Emery truly have amazing chemistry and such a beautiful love, they are definitely meant for each other and their story really warmed my heart!
Brett is the book boyfriend goals - he is there for Emery even when they are just hooking up for 3 years. He dotes on her, he knows her likes/dislikes, and he will protect her at all cost.
Emery is focused on making the Olympics and has no time for a relationship so she keeps everyone at arms length in her life.
The suprise pregnancy of this story for college kids was a little stretched for me that he had no concerns, but the way he stepped right up and earned Emery's love was swoonworthy!
I absolutely loved how his found family became hers as the figure skating world is not supportive of one another in her circle.
The way the girls and guys stood up to her horrible roommate was so good! I loved that the villian got their karma!
I do wish we got more of the birth/first happenings of their baby instead of jumping to the epilouge years later but I still enjoyed everything overall!
Brett was playing the longest game, and I love that all his dreams came true. From playboy to a literal dad. I loved seeing him embrace this surprise so much for himself but also for Emery. The hockey boys sure have a way of making me swoon. Emery is going for gold, preparing for the Olympics in figure skating, and she thought her dreams were over when she found out she was pregnant, but Brett made every one of her insecurities and doubts melt away with his actions and words. I loved seeing the hockey house boys step up as uncles before the baby was even there, not that there were any doubts they wouldn’t be amazing. Seeing so much of Wyatt in this book, I’m so excited for his book, each book keeps getting better and better!
When Beckett stole the top spot for Walker U boys I was sure he was holding it firmly…then Brett entered the chat and all I can do is SWOON!
I picked this book up last night and if I didn’t need to sleep I easily would have finished it in one sitting. Emery and Brett were thrown a challenge and they took it in stride and I adored every second of them learning to navigate and love each other. This found family is one of the best I’ve read and I can’t wait for Wyatt to get his happily ever after.
Just in the nick of time! I made it under the midnight wire to finish this book in 2025 by 35 minutes!
I am usually opposed to accidental pregnancy tropes… historically I hate them.. like won’t even pick them up. But since I enjoyed the first 3 books in this series, I didn’t want to skip this one and wound up loving it. Brett is an absolute angel and seeing Emery find her place in the WU Wolves family brought me such joy.
Interference by Cala Riley is book four in their Walker U series. We are back with the Walker Wolves hockey players for this college sports romance between Brett Woods and figure skater Emery Monroe. They met in their freshman year and started having a secret relationship. He fell for her fast but she had no interest in a relationship because she was focused on making the Olympics. He has been waiting patiently for her so when they get some unexpected news, will she finally see what’s right in front of her.
Brett has been struggling after getting injured and having to spend last season on the side lines. It meant he missed playing with Clay and Beckett in their final year. Now he has got the all clear to get back on the ice but he’s scared. Emery senses his vulnerability so they spend a very intimate night together which results in their lives being changed for ever. Three months later she’s not feeling well and finds out she’s pregnant.
Emery has always found Brett very charming and handsome. He’s become a friend and regularly helps her. She knows he wants them to be a couple but she thinks he’s still the flirty playboy. Now she has to face the heartbreak that she will miss the Olympics and tell Brett that their lives will never be the same again. She blames him at first because after years of practice and hard work her dreams are destroyed but is surprised how he happily steps up and take the responsibility for her being pregnant.
He is so patient, kind and caring. He has listened and remembered the little things she’s told him as well as all the important information. He is adorable and sweet with her, he researches about being pregnant so he can be there for her. He also wants to support her and help her fulfil her dreams of Olympic gold. He’s determined not to give up on her because he refuses to lose her. He has always loved her so now has to persuade her to give them a chance so they can be a real family.
Brett had a lonely and unhappy childhood so hockey gave him a family and now Emery has given him his own family to love. She is the best thing to ever happen to him but will she ever love him back and commit to him. I loved his reaction to the first ultrasound and how he admits being scared but willing to face his fears for her and the baby.
We catch up with the rest of the hockey house guys and their partners. I loved how Wyatt and Kellan took the news, the way everyone supported the couple and made Emery part of their family. I was very pleased when they conspired to get Brett back on the ice so he can finish the season with them. Giggled at the lads all going to her childbirth class, these are definitely four uncles who will love this baby. Wyatt is such a lovely guy, so caring of everyone and always there to help Brett with Emery when needed. Lyla is the woman he wants but she’s with someone else so I’m really looking forward to their story.
Emery worries if she can be a mother, figure skater and his girlfriend. She has meant more to him for a long time so it’s time she caught up. He keeps making her imagine a picture perfect life but can she be what he wants. Can they make their relationship work. There is some angst with her roommate which affects our couple but luckily Brett is one swoon-worthy guy who will do anything for his Buttercup. Great epilogue to show that dreams can come true especially when you have the support of a fantastic found family and the love of a good man.
trigger warnings will be at the bottom of this review, to avoid spoilers athletes with vigorous training, mention of abortion, case of “mean girls”, cheating used as revenge (more indepth information at the bottom)
Thanks to my attachment to the characters of this series and the age gap between us, I felt like a protective mother hen reading this! I was ready to burn the world down to protect Brett and Emery. They’re just regular college kids, trying to survive the expectations of being student athletes. Emery is buried in training for the Olympics, and Brett isn’t ready to get back on the ice after an injury, and he’s genuinely questioning how much hockey really needs to be his future. And just when they thought they maybe were starting to get a handle on being adults, life threw them a curve ball. Two pink lines. But they aren’t alone. They have each other, and they have Brett’s found family, who very quickly becomes Emery’s (because that’s who they are). A lot of emotions go into an unexpected pregnancy, and I believe this juggles that in a great way. And I absolutely fell in love with Emery when SHE wanted to prove to HIM that she’s not all in. Not because she has to, or because he wants her to. But because she feels like she should, because he deserves it. I loved that switch in the expected!
My Favorite Quotes: • “I want you. I’ve always wanted you.” • “Have you looked in the mirror? Of course I’m distracted.” • “I want to make sure I am what you need at all times.” “I only need you.”
6/10 Dirty Birdy 4/10 Forced Proximity 7/10 Friends to Lovers 4/10 Slow Burn 9/10 Sports Romance 8/10 Series
Trigger Warnings include: athletes with vigorous training, routine, and diet that interferes with health include menstrual cycles, unprotected sex that leads to planned pregnancy that leads to abortion being mentioned on page, “mean girl” activity involves slut shaming, pregnancy shaming, bullying and a cheating scandal (that turns out to not be what it seems), a date rape drug is used and the events are detailed on page
Every book I’m like ouuu this may be my favorite of the series then the next one comes out and I just love it so much, this series just keep getting better and better and this may be my favorite in this series
Emery and Brett has been hooking up for years but never had a relationship mainly because emery is focus on figure skating but Brett has been in love with her for a long time but never said anything. After one night when they didn’t use protection months later emery is feeling off so her trainer tell her to go to a doctor
Oh these freaking two! I love them so much, this book was just everything and more. And my number 1 opp is Emery roommate that little b she’s such a bad and jealous person it’s ridiculous I was so happy when Cora put her in her place
Brett definitely going on that book boyfriend list he’s literally everything. And he would do anything for Emery and their little bean, he’s just such a green flag I couldn’t get enough of him. After being off the ice for a while, his doctor cleared him but he’s still not ready mentally tho
This two just made things worked and their chemistry and banter was amazing, Emery may have been hesitant at first but she saw that later that she loves him and don’t even get me started on the found family trope this friend group is just everything and as soon as they found out about Emery was pregnant they were like all in loll I loved it😭
Some things happened towards the end of the book but I was happy it got resolved quickly and again I HATE Emery roommate
I cant wait for the next a last book I’m so excited for it!
🧑🧑🧒 what to expect -College Romance -Accidental Pregnancy -Friends with benefits to lovers -Hockey Player x Figure Skater -Found Family -He falls First -Secret Relationship
Thank you Cala and Riley for giving me this arc ⭐️
This is the 4th book in the series and it was so great to get Brett's story and find out what has been going on with his lady, Emery, our figure skater with a scowl.
Brett has been on the bench for most of the series rehabbing a knee injury and we got the sense in the last book that there was more going on his head and rehab since he wasn't on the ice yet. He has seemed like a playboy for a lot of the series, but little did we know he has only been messing around with one young lady, heck she didn't even know that fact. Brett is more complex than we gave him credit for to start with, and we see that more in this story. He is looking for purpose in his life, direction and time with family.
Emery is our focused figure skater who is so focused on the gold that she can't see what is real and right in front of her. She has pressure that I think a lot of us don't understand unless you set these high goals and expectations. She is derailed by an unexpected pregnancy but rallies like a troper and learns what it is like to have people in your corner and not looking to stab you in the back. I think she grows a lot in this book in learning more about herself and that goals aren't completely gone when life throws you a curveball.
These two had chemistry together and I think Brett is the golden retriever for sure (although....Wyatt has me curious) and you see that with Emery and the unwavering support for her and their little one. He makes some hard decisions that are good for himself and for her to help ensure that they are on the same page; there is still drama but it's minimal.
It was great to see some old characters and see where they are at and I can't wait to see how these characters continue to grow!
I did receive and ARC and am blessed for that chance.
I cannot believe we’re already four books deep into the deliciously addictive Walker University series, and Interference might just be my favourite yet. Cala Riley once again deliver the heart-tingling hockey romance I crave every single time, gifting us their most golden-retriever-soft, swoon-worthy hockey book boyfriend of the series: Brett.
Brett and Emery have danced around each other since freshman year in a friends-with-benefits arrangement—except Brett fell hard and fast long before Emery ever allowed herself to admit what her fluttering heartbeat already knew. With her eyes fixed firmly on an Olympic gold medal, love has always been the one complication Emery refused to let in… until life delivers the biggest plot twist of all.
Two pink lines. One unstoppable love story.
What makes this series shine is the family built around the Walker Wolves hockey team. The guys and their partners are the heart of these books, supporting Brett exactly when he needs it most. Meanwhile, Emery is stuck living with the worst roommate imaginable—jealousy, drama, and all the green-eyed chaos that comes with her. But through the mess, the choices, and the tears, Brett steps up in the most perfect, heart-melting way.
With emotional moments, found-family warmth, and a finale that wraps you in the sweetest Wolves hockey embrace, Interference is everything I want in a college hockey romance. A perfect, gut-fluttering addition to a series that just keeps getting better.
If you love Cala Riley, you’ll also love: Elise Faber, Samantha Lind, Eden Finley & Saxon James, Avery Keelan, Rebecca Jenshak, Piper Rayne.
This story takes a potentially bad situation and turns it into a good one with the help of love, perseverance, and good friends.
Brett is a hockey player who had an accident that left him afraid to return to the ice. Despite his fears, he decides to come back, not aiming for an NHL career but seeking another way to use his skills.
Brett has always loved Emery, transforming from a playboy to someone devoted to her. Meanwhile, Emery is focused on winning Olympic gold, having dedicated her life to training, and avoids relationships to keep her plans on track.
When Emery unexpectedly gets pregnant, Brett steps up. While her awful roommate shows her true colors, Brett's supportive friends help Emery find her place in their found family.
Emery realizes how supportive Brett is and that he’s worth loving. They both want the best for their baby, and with their friends' help, she can pursue her dreams after the baby is born.
My thoughts: ✔️Emery's roommate is a horrible, jealous human and deserved what she got. ✔️I love how Brett treats Emery. He’s ready to wait for her, looks out for her, and remembers all the little things that make her happy. It totally warms my heart. ✔️Their friends, who have become family, are so sweet. It's what every person needs in their lives.
What to expect: ✔️College Romance ✔️Hockey Player x Figure Skater ✔️Accidental Pregnancy ✔️Secret Relationship ✔️He falls first ✔️Friends with benefits to lovers ✔️Found Family
Thank you, Cala Riley, for the opportunity to read this ARC.
The fourth book in this series...surprise pregnancy & hero who falls first, sign me up.
Emery, she is a figure skater and one of the best. For years she has worked towards one thing and that's making it to the Olympics. Nothing will stop her from making her dream come true.
Until she gets a positive pregnancy report.
Brett! I loved him. After his injury he refuses to get on the ice. His hurt that he didn't get to finish his final year in college playing with his friends and also that a little fear.
Brett, for the past three years he has been with and in love with one woman, Emery. But getting her to see that they are more than just a convenient fling isn't working. She sees him as the biggest playboy and nothing more. But then they find out their going to be parents and everything changes. This is his chance to make her see they could be so much more.
Book four in this series and I enjoyed it. This hero was so amazing. He grew up in a world of money and had nanny's to take care of him but no love. And he knew exactly what kind of dad he was going to be. The way he loved and stood up for Emery and making sure she was taken care of...*chefs kiss* 😘
What I did find hard was connecting with the female lead. I felt like she just didn't trust the hero as much, especially in those last few chapters! 🙈
𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬
Loved catching up with the previous couples. Wyatt! Can't wait for this mans book.
Interference ( Walker University Book # 4 ) There are some books and series out there that just resonate with you and touch your heart ❤️ in a way that’s not so easy to put into words. In a way that rarely ever happens. Well I can say with 100% certainty that every time I pick up one of Cala Riley’s romances , it doesn’t matter if it’s part of a series or not . That’s exactly what happens every single time . This series is no different, in fact it’s phenomenal and so utterly addicting . Interference is book 4 as well as Brett and Emerys story ! I absolutely adored them so so much . All the humor and angst and witty banter between them . Not to mention the sparks that literally come right off the pages every time they’re around each other. Seeing them finally give into their feelings after doing everything in their power to fight them both Brett and Emery have managed to dance around their true feelings from the second they met during freshman year . They’ve had a friends with benefits arraignment, only for Brett it was so much more then emery ever knew . He fell and he fell hard . But it was very clear that Emerys main focus was on her dream of winning a Olympic gold . Fate has other plans though, because something happens something that changes everything. Emery finds out she’s pregnant and Brett is the dad !! This was so much more then your typical sports love story . It’s beautiful and emotional and fun and steamy .
Interference by Cala Riley is the kind of ice-melting, heart-warming romance that makes you kick your feet, smile into your Kindle, and immediately reread your favorite scenes the second you finish. From page one, I was completely hooked.
Cala Riley blends the perfect mix of that irresistible hockey-romance charm into a story that feels like sinking into a cozy blanket… if that blanket had broad shoulders, a wicked slap shot, and a smile that ruins your entire life in the best way.
Brett and Emery are so lovable and real that every scene with them you instantly care about them and what the future will bring. Their relationship is beyond cute as they navigate the new situation they find their self in. I loved seeing how strong both characters were in different ways and how even if you plan to get to your dreams change, it doesn’t mean it’s over!
What makes this book shine is not only the 2 main characters, but the surrounding found family that Brett has. I have absolutely loved the world that Cala Riley has created and the love, loyal and pure fierceness of them all is just perfect!
Tropes for Interference:
⛸️ Figure Skater x Ice Hockey Player 🏒 He falls first and hard ⛸️ Surprise Pregnancy 🏒 Found Family ⛸️ Secret Relationship
What If you love hockey romance with heart, humor, and heat, Interference absolutely delivers. Cala Riley nails every beat and sends this story flying straight into the net! Another amazing instalment to the Walker University Wolves series.
I’m not ready for this series to end, I have become very addicted to these characters & Brett really had me swooning so hard for him! If you have read the other books in this series then you have got glimpses at Brett & why he hasn’t gotten back on the ice just yet, but everything changes even more when Emery hits him with the news & Brett couldn’t be happier. We love a supportive man, and he really went over & beyond for Emery along with little peanut. He is the dream baby daddy, always doing research & wanting to be involved in everything which we love! I loved reading there story & watching their relationship really grow & develop. Emery was on her way to the Olympics for figure skating but that took a pause when she found out she was expecting, but what she wasn’t expecting was Brett to be all in, just wait he really will pull on your heart strings. I couldn’t get over the little things he did whether it was the tea or carrying a hair tie, he was a dream book boyfriend that is for sure. Obviously there are bumps in the road but nothing the hockey family can’t handle together. Ashley definitely got karma, but the ending was a real winner! I love all these characters so much & have became so attached to them, I can’t wait to read Wyatt’s story! Overall can’t get enough of Cala Riley’s writing, I’m always sucked into the story along with falling for characters, I mostly definitely recommend!
With big dreams of being an Olympian in Figure Skating, Emery had only one thing to do, practice. She ate, slept and breathed ice skating. The only time she didn’t was when she was in her college classes. What she wasn’t prepared for was Brett and her feelings for him. A test with two pink lines throws a big wrench in her goal. Nothing is easy for these two as they are both learning to allow their future plans to be derailed. The question is, can they come together while their plans are changing? Brett is all in from the moment he learns but it takes Emery a little while to come to terms with everything. It is when they spend more time together and they spend time with his friends that Emerson really learns what it means to have support and our hockey guys and their ladies are there every step of the way. I love how Brett has always wanted to be with Emery and was willing to do whatever she said to maintain being close to her. For him it was never really a friends with benefit situation but getting that time with her to try and show her he was more than what she saw. It is watching him fall more in love with her and it is opening her eyes that makes you appreciate their relationship. This was a fantastic addition to the Walker U series and I am beyond ready for Wyatt’s book now.
Just finished book 4 of the Walker university series Interference by Cala Riley. It follows Winter Olympic figure skating hopeful Emery as she balances being a student and training for the Olympics. She didn’t have time for much a social life but has once hook up for the past 3 years who happens to be on the university’s hockey team Brett. Brett was a playboy until he met Emery then he was wrapped around her finger and she didn’t even know. After one night her dreams came to a sudden halt. She became pregnant. After she tells Brett in fear of him thinking she trapped him, he was thrilled. Brett having always loved Emery, and Emery waiting for the worst to happen and honestly not really knowing Brett as a person, how did the baby make or break their newly found relationship? Did Emery make it to the Olympics or did she decide she no longer wanted to go for gold in sake of her baby? I loved this book. I think it might be my favourite in the series. Brett totally a golden retriever, always looking at the bright side helping Emery be comfortable and supportive. Definitely a must read. Yes read the other books in the series as the other characters are either mentioned or involved in this book. But I don’t think it’ll confuse you to much if you start with this one.
What started as a friends-with-benefits arrangement between Emery, a skater dreaming of the Olympics, and Brett, a hockey player, turns into something deeper as they navigate together every step of an unexpected pregnancy journey, from morning sickness and cravings to parenting and childbirth classes, surrounded by the warmth of the hockey team and their partners.
The story touches on fears, insecurities, and “shattered” dreams, especially Brett’s quiet fear of being left by those he loves and Emery’s struggle to balance her career with motherhood. This book is more of a gentle, comforting read than an intense emotional rollercoaster. The only real spark of tension comes from Ashley, Emery’s jealous skating rival, who adds a touch of spice to an otherwise soft, predictable story.
In the end, Interference is about love that stays steady through change, dreams that eventually come true, and the kind of relationship built on support, warmth, and kindness. It is sweet, slow, and perfect for readers who enjoy good sports romance with a strong found-family vibe.
I found it tender and sincere, even if softer than what I usually read.
This is the 4th book in the Walker U series & just like all the others I loved this book. Brett just might be my new book boyfriend cause *swoooon*
He shows his love for Emery not only with his words, but his actions. He never lets her feel anything other than happiness.
Emery having her sight set on getting the Gold in the Olympics gets her world rocked when she finds out she’s a little over 3 months pregnant.
After coming to terms with her decision to keep the baby, she starts adjusting to the real world outside of figure skating coming face to face with nasty mean girls who will do everything to name call you just because she was the one who got pregnant.
Emery rose up and showed everybody who she really was. A woman who was going to own her decision to take care of her child even if it got in the way of her plans. She didn’t give up on her dreams once, they just took a baby seat and after she gave birth she set back out to accomplish her goal.
Determination at its finest just a strong support system along the way.
This book was beautiful & I loved every bit of it. Thank you for the eARC!
Walker University has introduced us to some truly talented men—but even more impressive are the women who have inspired them and fallen in love with them. This book is no exception. Cala creates another strong, dynamic female whose story captivates from the start. What begins as an accidental pregnancy after years of casual hookups between Brett and Emery—followed by Emery spiraling.... Brett has been in love with Emery since the beginning, but he always feared that showing it would send her running. Emery, an amazing figure skater set for the Olympics, initially sees the pregnancy as the end of her dreams. Instead, it becomes the turning point she never knew she needed. Emery finally allows herself to feel everything she’s held back. She opens herself to Brett’s love—and discovers that maybe she loves him too. She finds the sense of family and support she never had in the skating world, alongside a partner who wants her to have it all, including supporting her goal for the Olympics after the baby is born. This doesn't come without drama... and leave that to their parents, her roommate and the obstacles they overcome to be together.
I was introduced to Carla Reilly’s universe through her Breakout book and the Walker University series, and ever since reading Beckett and Hanna’s story, I just couldn’t keep my calm. I was so excited for this book to come out. But after reading it, I would say it felt… lacking. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either — just mediocre, I would say. I’ve read Breakout, and in that book, every single moment had me gushing, aww-ing, and screaming, but that didn’t happen here.
It honestly felt like I was reading a cheesy novel with flirty lines, mushy scenes, a cinnamon-roll MMC, and a passionate FMC — and that’s about it. To be very honest, I didn’t find much beyond that.
I was so damn excited when I got to know that book four was coming soon, but unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations. Still, there were some scenes where I was like, “Brett Woods, the man you are 🤌!” (iykyk).
I just can’t wait to read Wyatt’s book. This man has been my absolute favorite in the series, and I seriously can’t wait to get my hands on his story.
Thank you Cala Riley and The Love Notes PR for allowing me to read this as a ARC reader
After embarking on a dark romance journey, I must say that this book was a refreshing change of pace, bringing me back to the realm of cute romantic novels.
I often find myself saying this about every hockey book I read, but I must admit i am a slut for hockey romance books.
I was thrilled to read about Brett. Throughout the series, I genuinely liked his character. I was pretty excited to read his book; it didn’t disappoint. Brett was the ideal man when he accidentally impregnates his girl. He is kind, thoughtful, and is there with her every step of the way. I was so glad he had the hockey family to support him as well.
And sweet Emery, I felt for that girl. Having to give up her dream even for a little while must have been incredibly difficult for her. I know it would be for me as well, but she managed to handle everything that came her way with such ease. She’s definitely a strong FMC.
Brett and Emery are everything great about this series. The drive and determination, the drama behind the drive and determination. The making and breaking friendships, who people are when they head off to college out of that safety net of home or possibly out of danger and into a safety net and a family who becomes home. Brett was hockey's Playboy and Emery had been figure skating's good girl, and yes they hooked up! Brett was infatuated, and Emery was scratching an itch until one day they weren't and before anyone could say otherwise they were pregnant. Now the real fun begins Emery is honestly a little hysterical and I found it a little funny and Brett well he's excelling in every way possible. Unless you ask Emery to start off with. The guys well they are amazing and the ladies well they are exactly what Emery needs. This is hands down one of my favorite sports series! I have voluntarily left this review.
When a figure skater and a hockey player get together, sparks fly and ice melts. Emery is very career focuses and relationships are only casual. What she doesn’t expect is to be life bound to Brett. While she freaks about her whole life plans changing, Brett is the happiest he has ever been. He has been in love with Emery from day one and now grabs the opportunity to show her how right for each other they truly are. Their love story is inevitable. They complete each other and are meant to be even with a few challenges and obstacles on the way. Brett loves and commits with all his heart and emery learns how to be loved and prioritize what really matters. Cala Riley always surprises the reader with her beautiful stories. You will laugh, cry, swoon and love the found family sense. Thank you for the ARC.
Brett was the ultimate cinnamon roll/golden retriever MMC. Giving up his playboy ways early, and he was all in…. I half fell in love with him too, even if he’s too good to be real. On that note, Emery… her reaction was so on point, and I felt for her, so many changes, and the loss of her ‘friends’ would have had to hurt.
The family that they form between them, AND his hockey family, is gorgeous. Angsty at times, I couldn’t put it down. The drama towards the end was slightly unexpected. I had a feeling something would come up, but geez… just not that. Her former friend was a conniving snake. I just would have liked to have true comeuppance - the type that we actually got to see.
But the ending? Super sweet, and I’ve only read one other story with the type of choice by the MMC, and I applaud it. Well done Cala Riley. My first book from you, and it is certainly not my last!
Beckett is a star hockey player and Emery is a star figure skater. they've been in a situationship for 3 years, but Beckett is in love with Emery. Emery is dedicated to get figure skating career, using Beckett to blow off steam, although they've become friendly. An accidental pregnancy shakes everything up. Beckett is happy and thinks this is his purpose in life. Emery is scared and angry that her career is now in jeopardy. Beckett is there for her again and again. it's a little too good to be true, but it's fiction, so go with it. Emery eventually realizes everything her life was missing by only focusing on figure skating and not giving Beckett a chance. We get our happy ending with the entire family unit
