The balance of power inside the maze is tilting with Diana’s presence, but itmay just tilt into full-blown chaos. Chaos in an underground maze prison…that’s bad, right?

This is the best Wonder Woman we've had in years, or maybe ever. A 5 out of 5.

This issue continues to prove why this series has become a standout modern Wonder Woman run. Diana’s compassion and strength are both on display as she navigates the labyrinth, finally reconnecting with Io in a moving, heartfelt moment. Hearing her mother’s name sparks raw emotion, underscoring just how deeply Hippolyta and the Amazons remain part of her identity.

Kelly Thompson’s script balances that emotional resonance with high-stakes mythic intrigue, while Hayden Sherman’s art elevates every scene with surreal energy and striking visuals. The arrival of strange aquatic threats — fishmen, sirens, and even Clea — keeps the mystery of Neptune’s Trident (or perhaps something even greater) simmering as the arc races toward its finale.

This book once again reminds me why I love comics: gorgeous art, heartfelt character work, and a story that blends myth, heart, and wonder.

I’m so intrigued by the creature in the pit. It’s clearly an ally, but why? What is its identity?

Also, it’s so like Diana to want to save everyone.

This issue was such a fun read. Diana being unable to trust her own senses because of the intense hallucinogen is wild, and it really highlights her natural skill and instincts as a warrior. Even stripped of certainty, she’s still very formidable!

Diana finally meeting another Amazon felt incredibly earned after everything she’s been through. That moment made it even more heartbreaking when they had to separate. I’m really hoping they reunite at some point, because it feels like something bad could happen to Io.

I continue to love how these issues end! Each conclusion is bold and sets up the next chapter perfectly, building anticipation without ever feeling forced or rushed.

A pleasure to read as always. Kelly Thompson weaves the core tenets of who Diana is— compassionate strength, the best parts of all she has learned from, and endlessly resourceful and resilient— with a fast-paced, high-stakes story spanning Diana’s youth to the present day.

Early on in this issue we get a flashback to Diana’s time training on the wild Isle. The lesson she learned was to know what weapon to bring into battle. In this issue Diana is tasked with imbuing a stone with magic so that a hydra out in the sea around the isle will be compelled to love it. Diana must then cast it out into the sea, and bring it back. As Diana sets off she brings her axe with her, the goddess teaching her warns her about choosing the right weapon and Diana is fully aware. As the sun rises on the day, Diana finally comes back out of the ocean and puts the stone in front of the goddess. She had completed the task, Diana then proceeded to pickup the stone and walk back into the ocean. When she came back she was very noticeably missing her axe, that is because she made a bargain with the hydra to keep her axe until Diana brought the stone back. Diana chose the correct weapon, it was bargaining. This confounds the goddess, but it is another lesson that just expresses how different Diana is from the gods, because of how like everyone else she is.

Now this isn’t technically the start of the issue, as we pickup right where we left off last issue. With Diana diving into the pit after the scientist Clea threw in, only to be overwhelmed with hallucinogen flowers, right as a large beast that resides in the pit came across her. As Diana holds her axe strong…she decides to put it down. If she continues to swing it around in this madness she could kill someone, and she refuses to allow that to happen. Instead she stays calm, although her words are garbled that could only be her own perception and the words themselves are fine, allowing her to cast a spell to see true. I don’t know why it took me this long to realize, but I’ve always loved the different eye colors Diana can take on. Usually they are blue while occasionally being red, and now it’s finally clicked with me. Her eyes appear red as she casts spells…DUH! Love that I finally realized that, don’t love how long it took. Now one thing that leaves me scratching my head is the scientist, is this a nobody or are they very intentionally leaving the identity secret? Either way, as Diana throws down the spell she collapses from the hallucinations going away. And the monster with its giant axe becomes clearer as it walks over and picks her up, and leads her and the scientist to safety! As Diana is carried away, she sees the form of a half constructed being reaching out to her, she is the only one to truly see it.

As Diana wakes up we are introduced to the big bad monster, as it is no monster at all but the Amazon Diana has been searching out! Her name is Io and she recognizes Diana as the daughter Queen Hippolyta dreamed of, the sister they all dreamed of. This is the first time Diana has met an Amazon, and it legit brings tears to my eyes as the two embrace. But Io is confused by the fact Diana has never met another Amazon, as it turns out Io fell on an ancient battle field, and woke up in the maze. She has no knowledge of what has happened to the amazons or Diana’s time in hell being raised by Circe. Io’s body has the entire maze tattooed all over it, and while she has been here the only change has been humanity finding it…which has not improved the conditions of the maze. Io shows Diana where they have been hiding out, the pit has become a sanctuary and a place of hope for the beings trapped in the maze. And Ferdinand has helped many of them, they would be quick to come to his aid…even though Diana hopes it will not come to that. There was once a monster at the bottom of the pit, which they unfortunately had to kill, but they have kept the idea of the monster alive to prevent Clea from coming after them. They have also attempted to dig their way out, although they have been met with failure many times, it has kept their hope alive. A lot of times they hit metal or too hard of rock to get through, but once they have even hit sea level…that is what Diana is interested in seeing. See she brings with her not just hope, but a way o or for all of them using her magic. But as she plans to get everyone out of here using the door she setup, she has to do it under the nose of Clea, save Ferdinand, and destroy the place in the process. I’m fairly certain her plan is very clear. She passes the information to Io on the location of the doorway and the magic necessary to open it. Diana expresses that Io could have easily swam out long ago, but she has stayed for decades to help all of these people…this is a great relief to Diana as it confirms her long held belief that the amazons are great and worthy. So I think that once everyone gets out and Diana saves Ferdinand, she is going to open the tunnel, send in the water and swim to freedom. The maze will be destroyed, and Clea and her fish men (being Atlantean) will also be completely fine. I hope Ferdinand knows how to swim, or is at least able to get to the door before Diana blows the place. Before we get into the finale of this issue, we gotta check in on our rag tag group back at the Hieron. They were able to drag the siren over to the water and let her into it, and wouldn’t you know it…she’s okay! Sure she has a face and fangs only a mother could love, but they did it!

As Io sets off to lead the survivors to safety, Diana is able to setup a position that gives her immunity to the hallucinations, but there is another key piece that only Diana picked up on. The sentient being that has been hiding in the hallucinating flowers. The flowing being is incomplete and cannot help, but if Diana can complete it…then they may be able to help each other. As Diana flies to the top of the pit, Clea is thrown back in shock. Diana immediately throws a spell to give Ferdinand the strength to break free from his own chains. He is able to assist in the fight, but Diana asks him to prevent throwing anything in the pit. As Diana takes on Clea she hedges all of her bets on the fact that Clea is as mad as they have all told her. Clea is fast and strong, even able to throw Diana into the wall. As Diana catches her breath she tries to offer Clea a deal…only for Clea to lash out and drive her pitch fork staff thing into Diana’s stomach! All while she screams out about getting her siren back. That really wasn’t an appropriate counter offer, and as Diana pulls the staff back out, she maintains that she has a great offer for Clea if she will only hear her out. Diana then proceeds to walk over to the pit and throw the staff into it! Very noticeable we know see that in the middle of the staff rests a floating orb made of the same material the creature at the bottom is made of. Suddenly the creature hurls itself from the depths of the pit as Clea watches in terror, in its full watery form of wraps itself around Diana’s hand…only to form into a giant water trident! I have a feeling, that Diana is not going to use this as her own weapon. But instead give Clea the trident and the watery path out of the maze to lead her own people to freedom. She’s been in there a long time and it has made her mad, I think it’s time to go home.

Before I begin, I have spent many of these reviews praising Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman, and rightfully so for their incredible work on this series. However, not enough credit has been given to the colorist, Jordie Bellaire. Jordie is absolutely killing it. The colors are incredibly vivid and beautiful. From the deep reds of Clea’s chamber, to the cool blues of the labyrinth, to the bright purples of Diana’s drug trip, every panel is mesmerizing and carefully crafted.
This issue focuses on Diana discovering another Amazon, learning more about who she is, and figuring out how to escape the labyrinth with the other prisoners while also confronting Clea. A lot happens in this issue, yet it all unfolds flawlessly and never feels overwhelming. I honestly cannot decide which aspect I enjoy more, the present-day storyline with Diana facing these threats, or the younger Diana learning who she is meant to become. The Artemis training sessions continue to be a highlight and are incredibly fun to read.
I am absolutely loving this series and cannot recommend it enough.

This issue was really good. I love the story of diana and the task the god take to her to enchant the stone. That was a really funny little bit to read about her making a deal to exchange one thing for another and come back and get it. That was so funny but also insightful to her creativity. She was tasked with retrieving the stone, she did, and then “unretrived” since that wasn’t a requirement. Her bargain was brilliant and amusing to read. I also enjoyed reading about Io and the back and forth between what’s happened to her and the people and diana role in it. Also, the bit about the spirit not being complete and the tunnel that leads to the waves was really clever writing and i love the idea of diana using her wits to make a weapon instead of just being handed one. Overall, this issue has a great blend of depth and storytelling without feeling like we are just trying to move the plot.

Another spectacular issue that manages to maintain Diana's compassionate nature in an otherwise darker universe. This issue, she's one step closer to finding the Amazons and Themyscira, by meeting Io for the first time. Their interactions as they explore the lower levels of the maze was really heartwarming, and hints at plenty of things with the Amazons when we'll meet them later. The action throughout is laid out perfectly by Hayden Sherman, having weight to the fights instead of big grandiose poses that a lot of lazy artists do for fight scenes. The fight between Diana and Clea near the end was especially nail biting. If I had to criticize anything in the book, it would have to be Io's arm tattoo. It's pattern remains the same no matter how she moves the arm, making the effect feel kind of flat. But otherwise the art is outstanding, and I can't wait for the next issue.

This is shaping out not just to be one of the best Absolute Universe series, but one of the best Wonder Woman series ever. It stays true to all the best parts of the character. I love how hopeful and compassionate Diana is, especially in spite of all she's gone through in this universe. I love her so much.

The bar for this book is just higher than anything else. Some really great Diana moments, showing how she uses all the tools at her disposal to resolve problems. This issue just suffers from being the penultimate chapter in an arc and leaves some threads hanging awkwardly. For instance, there’s one page of what’s going on above the surface, and it’s more confusing than intriguing.

Diana does not cease to amaze me. The writing in this series is amongst the best. Making Diana such a righteous warrior is amazing, this iteration of Wonder Woman may be one of my favorite superheroes.

Her ability to just adapt and create new solutions to every situation she’s put in is outstanding.

This is a great issue.

Diana would rather die than harm an innocent. That was proven clear by her very surrender. Her compassion and courage shine through in every action. No wonder this book outshines the rest of the Absolute Universe.

She finds another Amazon! And that last page: BADASS. Just left with some questions:

- what is that entity?
- so a trident? What is that? Absolute Aquaman?
- is the siren evil? Good?
- what happened to the scientist?

This is truly fantastic. Many analogous elements to Greg Rucka’s run on the mainline book. This is the Wonder Woman story I want. Someone please get Tom King off the other book.
