Superman and an impossible ally search the future for the lost Legion ofSuper-Heroes! What happened to it, and can it help in the battle againstDarkseid’s Absolute Legion?
This is really where EVERYTHING is happening and I cannot be more hot and bothered as a major legion of super-heroes fan. I’m kidding of course, I actually expressly love all this legion content, but it’s so hard to watch as every turn of the page is just more tragedy. The issues starts with a bit of a preamble about SuperBoy prime’s backstory and everything he has gone through. I honestly still don’t know a ton about him, I’ve read his original appearance (so I know that he comes from a world where dc heroes are comics and he’s the only one with powers) and picked up on a few of his post crisis appearances in his pocket dimension, but I haven’t read infinite crisis, so the fourth wall breaking and comments on the plot and continuity is funny, and so frustrating for Superman, but quite confounding to me. But I did hear that his super punches literally changed continuity in infinite crisis, so I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. But we pickup this issue where we left off, with the trapper dropping Superman off with SuperBoy prime as Superman will need him to fight the omega legion as SuperBoy prime doesn’t have any reservations from punching the skulls in of familiar faces. Time trapper dips out and leaves them to it, and SuperBoy goes full silver age in the best possible way by punching a hole through time and space to directly take them to the 31st century.
SuperBoy-prime believes he knows how everything is going to play out. First they need to find and save booster gold, Superman still has no memory of that is because of how screwed up time is, but if SuperBoy prime says he’s a great hero and they need to save him then superman has no problem with it. Plus SuperBoy prime figures this will be a piece of cake, they will get in and find booster, be interrupted by Darkseid’s legion, they will outnumber them and just as it seems all is lost…a bunch of different versions of the legion from possible futures will show up for an awesome two page spread to save the day! Except as soon as they arrive they get a two page spread alright…a two page spread filled with dead legion members. The legion war is over…we lost.
Suddenly a surviving cosmic boy comes to them, he was out digging graves for the fallen legionnaires. They have a small group of survivors and he is able to lead Superman and SuperBoy prime to them. There dawnstar, polar boy, gold lantern, Kinetix, star boy, and a few brainiacs have made camp. Polar boy is the first to point out that SuperBoy prime is a psycho and shouldn’t be here, but come on dude he was a psycho like 3 reboots ago, lol. But heres the really interesting thing with the brainiacs…they have another one. They were able to rip brainiac from the absolute universe out and into their timeline! They are planning on fully lobotomizing him to learn more, they’ve already been able to find that the legion is using the old time institute as their base. Something they would have known if they read the JLD special, lol. But this entire group has been scarred by war, and that’s where Superman comes in. He is able to rally them back together and show them that if they fight alongside each tiger they still have a chance! Even though they are outnumbered, they are ready to stand tall behind Superman’s example. And the first order of business, find booster gold. Sneaking out they are able to make their way close to the old time institute, and with the guard patrol leaving they may just have their chance. But then SuperBoy prime realized there has been a massive plot hole. If cosmic boy has magnetic powers…why was he using his hands on the shovel to dig. Immediately cosmic boy realizes the game is up and changes into omega chameleon boy and kills the closest brainiac 5. As Superman begins to fight him, he immediately changes into the classic look of Cham to stop him…but SuperBoy prime has none of those reservations and is able to beat him down. With brainiac 5 dying in his arms Superman is angrier than ever and ready to take on this world. Flying with full might is bursts into the time is it it’s where he finds the chained up and shriveled booster gold. YEAH!! That’s my boy! It still sucks that Superman still doesn’t know who he is, that better be fixed soon, but booster still carries bad news, from everything he has seen…he doesn’t believe they can win. For him he has been there for over two years, he only knows about the two because once he went through the rift in the all in special…that’s how long he spent fighting alongside the legions before being captured. And with no skeets he never had a chance of getting a ride home. This is super tragic and hearing we are too late for the fight makes me feel so hopeless and powerless, but I swear if we don’t get a booster gold special about his time here I’m going to be so disappointed. I feel like there is a real chance here for just a giant tragic blockbuster of an issue. But right as Superman is getting booster gold out and ready to get him home, they are surrounded by the full force of the omega legion! But Superman is not one to back down and is ready to get his hands on darkseid…only for a red laser beam to take him down from behind. As Superman reels from the pain, we shouldn’t be at all surprised to find that SuperBoy prime sent off that shot and has switched teams. But you know what, I am surprised, and if this isn’t a short con on the omega legion I’m going to be so pissed. Fantastic issue and I really want to see this momentum going. I don’t know how they are going to wrap this up without rushing it in time for DC KO, but this is so thrilling.

Holly plot twist, Superman. How did we not know that was going to happen? The art and story were beautiful, with all the Legion dead, and Prime doing what he does best, the next issue is waiting for me to pick it up.
A really fun issue with some nice action. The ending was a bit predictable but it was also well done and enjoyable. Mora's art is always a treat for the eyes too.
I’m adoring everything in this Legion arc, and the more this all goes on the more I’m confident Superman is going to win DC KO. That Superman v Darkseid battle is gonna be insane.
This is my first time reading a comic about Superboy Prime, and he's absolutely hilarious. He's like if someone tried to Deadpool-ify Superman, and the results are ridiculous and fun.
