After a painful divorce and years of keeping his heart under lock and key, Axel Ferraro is finally rebuilding his life in Los Angeles. Reunited with the sister he thought he’d lost forever, the Italian OB-GYN is focused on his career and enjoying the calm of his newfound family.
Love isn’t part of the plan, until a brilliant young nurse walks in and turns his world upside down.
Skyler Spencer is twenty-six, fiercely driven, and drowning in student debt. By day, she’s a dedicated student finishing her midwifery program. By night, she becomes Moon, seductive, masked, untouchable, dancing in an exclusive underground club where secrets pay and no one asks questions.
His heart recognized her… but couldn’t resist the thrill of the unknown. He connected with the woman… but fell for the illusion. He’s drawn to Skyler, but obsessed with Moon. Love has never been more complicated, because he has no idea they’re the same woman.
Torn between a genuine connection and a forbidden fantasy, Axel makes a choice, but the moment he does, the truth detonates.
Can a love born from deception survive the fallout? Or will the real love story begin only after everything falls apart?
Raw, emotional, and devastatingly sexy, Beyond the Moonlight is the fourth standalone in the Beyond series, an intimate, high-stakes romance where love walks a tightrope between passion and forgiveness.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Axels story. But I was not expecting that. Sex club. Double identity. It was hot 🔥
Dr Axel Ferraro relocated to LA from Rome after reconnecting with his long-lost sister Carolina. Whilst working at the hospital, he meets Skylar. The two become close friends, with Skylar having a secret crush on Dr Ferraro.
As the two continue to work together and Skylar intertwines with Axels friends and family, she makes her way into his heart.
The only problem is Axel has found an intense sexual bond and obsession with Moon, who unbeknownst to Axel is, in fact, Skylar.
It was interesting to see how both Axel and Skylar navigated the situation and conflicting feelings that arose. Skylar was the one being dishonest, yet she felt hurt and betrayed.
I loved the cameos from characters from previous books in the series. As Axel and Skylar were both stubborn, I loved to see them get advice and the push they both needed from Hope and Tom.
I enjoyed the growth in both characters and loved how Skylar embraced her inner Moon to become her authentic self.
The story provides passion, heartache, jealousy, and tension. It is a story of two people trying to navigate their feelings for one another whilst overcoming past traumas and trust.
It was perfect to see the characters from the previous books in the series come together in Beyond the Moonlight to support and have fun together.
Thank you to D.G. Keene for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great book, filled with family love, drama and all the bits in between. It’s basically an episode of greys anatomy in all the best ways. Our FMC skyler is living a double life.. by day she’s a nurse and midwife in training.. by night she’s a dancer in a s3x club keeping her identity hidden and firmly separating her self from her alter ego Moon. The MMC Axel is a renowned natal surgeon, who lives on the family ranch. This is book 4 of interconnected standalone books. I haven’t read the first 3 but now I’ve discovered this author I plan to go back and start from the beginning. I don’t feel like I missed out on anything by starting with book 4.
I just love this series! The characters, especially Axel and Skyler were written so well. They had great chemistry and banter. Skyler was such a strong FMC, independent but guarded. She has been through so much. Axel has his own insecurities that he was dealing with. Both were stubborn and just needed to talk things through.
I was anxiously waiting to hear Dr. Axel Ferraro's story. If you have been reading this series, you met Axel in Gabriele's book. Axel is an OB-GYN. He has moved to California to be near his sister Carolina and is working at a hospital. Axel has been at the hospital for three years. He enjoys his time there, though there are some long days and nights. Axel is happy to spend time with this family. Skyler Spencer is a OB-GYN nurse at the hospital studying to be a midwife. Axel looks to Skyler for help when he notices Hope, Tom's wife, struggling with postpartum depression after giving birth. Skyler becomes one of the family. She really helps Hope get through this hard time. You would think that would be when Axel finally notices her, but wait, there is more.
Once Hope is feeling better, Tom takes her to a sex club. Axel runs into them on their way out and they invite him to go. Axel decides to go and ends up bidding on one of the dancers. Moon captivates Axel from the minute she walks out on the stage. He is very out of his depth, but he cannot let this opportunity slip through his hands. Axel and Moon have a wonderful time together, if you know what I mean. Just one problem Moon is Skyler and Axel does not know. In Axel's mind Moon and Skyler are two different people. Skyler is his good girl that will always be there for him. Moon is the one he can't stop thinking about. I'm not going to lie. Axel had me mad a few times. I get that he had been through some stuff and had abandonment issues. That is no excuse for the way he treated Skyler. That's the thing about books. You have to let the story play out and you don't have to love every character.
These two both had issues that led the down a dark road when things got tough. Ms. Keene did her thing with this one. She always surprises me with the journey her characters take. Though Skyler was Moon, she was just happy to finally have Axel's attention. They do finally get together and now they have secrets hanging over them. Neither Axel or Skyler react well when those secrets come out. This book will have you wondering if their couple will make it to until the very end. This book is definitely one that will keep readers interested. Readers will be invested in Skyler and Axel's relationship. There are also a few more surprises along the way. When Ms. Keene gives us a book, she gives us her all and it shows.
I loved this book. I specially loved the family dynamics. I loved reading how Axel and Skyler navigate love, trust, and forgiveness. The book had me hooked. The whole series has been amazing. If you love drama, romance and emotions this is perfect for you!!!
Beyond the Moonlight by D.G. Keene is the fourth book in The Beyond series.
Dr. Axel Ferraro, after years of heartbreak, has finally managed to rebuild his life in L.A., close to his long-lost sister. Working as an OB-GYN at Cedars-Sinai, Axel loves his career and enjoys the friendships he has made there—including a close bond with nurse Skyler Spencer.
Skyler has secretly harbored a crush on Axel since the first time she worked with him, but she never acted on it. Everything shifts, however, when Axel spends a night with her alter ego, Moon. Drawn to Moon by a strong physical pull, Axel believes it’s only desire—until his heart begins to lead him toward Skyler. He admires her deeply, and just as things between them start moving in the right direction, the truth comes out. Can they survive the lies and the unresolved wounds from their pasts?
This is a workplace romance with a hidden-identity twist. The story starts light, highlighting the close friendship and simmering attraction between the main characters. From there, it builds into passion between Axel and Moon, and later shifts into a more angsty push-and-pull dynamic. Both Axel and Skyler make mistakes, but the beauty lies in their effort to repair what’s broken. The novel blends romance, spice, and emotional depth seamlessly.
I especially loved the family dynamics, Axel’s determination to earn Skyler’s trust, and his protective—sometimes possessive—side (which was very hot!). My favorite moment was the Thanksgiving dinner scene, which added warmth and heart to the story.
If you enjoy groveling heroes and plenty of spice in your romance, Beyond the Moonlight is definitely for you.
Beyond the Moonlight, the fourth installment in D.G. Keene’s Beyond series, is a captivating blend of workplace romance, hidden identity, and emotional depth. Dr. Axel Ferraro, an OB-GYN rebuilding his life in Los Angeles after years of heartbreak, finds unexpected connection and comfort in his friendship with nurse and midwifery student Skyler. What he doesn’t know is that Skyler is also Moon, a mysterious dancer he’s intensely drawn to. The chemistry between Axel and Moon is electric, but the emotional tension truly ignites when Axel begins to fall for Skyler, unaware they’re the same woman. As secrets unravel and past wounds resurface, both characters must confront their truths and fight for forgiveness, trust, and love. This story is rich with passion, angst, and growth. I loved watching Skyler embrace her inner Moon and become her authentic self, and Axel’s groveling, protective nature was both heartwarming and undeniably hot. Their journey is messy, emotional, and real, filled with jealousy, tension, and vulnerability. Cameos from beloved characters in previous books, especially Hope and Tom, added depth and continuity, offering guidance and comic relief when Axel and Skyler needed it most. From sex clubs to emotional breakthroughs, this book had me hooked from start to finish. If you love groveling heroes, spicy romance, and stories that explore identity and healing, Beyond the Moonlight is a must-read.
I went BEYOND THE MOONLIGHT and I’m so glad I did! D.G. Keene has crafted an extraordinary romance that completely captivated me. The writing is phenomenal, especially the deeply sensitive and layered portrayal of our male lead(doctor) recovering from a truly heartbreaking past. His journey from wounded soul to finding love again is handled with incredible care and emotional honesty. The way he meets someone to mend his heart not knowing it was the nurse he'd been working with at first, and after falling into the most unexpected world is pure genius and sets up a truly unique dynamic. This isn't your typical hospital romance; the special club adds a thrilling, fresh layer to their connection.
Alright to the good stuff: Let's talk about the heat. This book is a delicious Level 5 Spice! The chemistry between the doctor and nurse sizzles off the page, making their emotional connection even more intense. If you love a story with incredible tension, deep healing, and a heartwarming happily ever after that gives you all the feels, pick up BEYOND THE MOONLIGHT.
Beyond the Moonlight is the fourth book in the Beyond series, and it’s by far one of my favorites. Having read the previous three, I was thrilled to see all the familiar characters come together in such an emotional and engaging story.
Axel Ferraro, a heartbroken OB-GYN rebuilding his life, isn’t looking for love, until Skyler Spencer walks in. She’s a driven midwifery student by day and a mysterious dancer known only as "Moon" by night. Axel finds himself torn between his growing feelings for Skyler and his obsession with the illusion of Moon, unaware they’re the same woman.
The story is passionate, emotional, and full of tension. When the truth comes out, it hits hard, and watching these two navigate love, trust, and forgiveness is both heartbreaking and beautiful. This book had me hooked from start to finish. It's a perfect blend of drama, romance, and raw emotion. If you’ve been following the series, you won’t be disappointed.
Great read. Lots of drama and spice… straight out of an episode of grey’s anatomy hahahaha I really enjoyed this book. And once I started was quickly drawn in. I couldn’t and didn’t want to put it down The only reason it’s not a 5star read, is because the FMC was really starting to annoy me towards the end
This was a new to me author. Book 4 in her Beyond series. A tale between 2 very stubborn coworkers. Skyler is leading a double life. She can’t let her primary job find out about her secondary job for fear it’d get her fired and lose her license. Skyler was not having a problem with this until Axel showed up at her second job. Chaos between the 2 unfolds from there.
💠 Beyond the Moonlight 💠 ✨️Happy Release Day!✨️ Author by D.G. Keene . This is the first time I have read this book from this author. And I loved it! The story! The characters! I can't wait to read the other series/standalone of the books! I'm excited to know them, hehe. So back for the book, like it no scratch that out. I love it! It was so slow burn, but like they both liked each other, but they didn't want to ruin their friendship and Axel.. please make up your mind 😭 I want you and Skyler to be together! And again, the characters! I already love them, too. Even though i haven't met them yet , I really can't wait to read them and also The angst, the drama, gosh! I love it!
