If you look up "wholesome couple" in the dictionary, you'll find Madeline Ashcroft and Jesse Winters there. This was my first Lily Miller book and my ninth book this month, and this was the perfect palette cleanser read if you're looking for something wholesome.
Madeline Ashcroft has spent her entire life wanting to be cared for by someone. As the daughter of a powerful politician, her parents have never seen her as more than a means to an end, a way to continue their political dynasty and legacy, since her older sister, Cara, rejected that lifestyle. When Madeline decides to take matters into her own hands and move hours away from home with her best friend, Lottie, and start a marketing job at Cove, an upscale outdoor lifestyle brand, she finally has the chance to breathe. When a little mishap at a brewery gets her into a situation where she is inadvertently turning down and publicly calling out her future boss, Jesse Winters, for being a playboy and a flirt, she can't seem to figure out how to get over it. Jesse, on the other hand, can't seem to get Madeline out of his head...
I want to point out that even though I didn't read the first book, I didn't feel like there were any spoilers for the first book while reading, which is really nice. I know this sounds silly to say with interconnected standalones, but I feel like sometimes authors will toe the line between subtle allusions to the previous couples in the series and full-on spoilers of the plot for previous books. I personally like it when my interconnected standalones truly feel like standalones, and I can enjoy the second, third, fourth, etc. book in a series without feeling like I'm missing a ton of context for other characters that show up in the story.
Mads and Jesse are probably one of the best book couples I've read about this month. I felt like their relationship was written well and had a great balance between personal moments of them bonding and them getting to know each other and the spice. Both of them had family drama and issues, and I liked how neither of them judged the other for it. In fact, I loved how Mads and Jesse were able to actually talk to each other about things that were bothering them vs. having a miscommunication trope thrown in the story. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think this is the first romance book I've read where a miscommunication trope was avoided entirely because the adult characters were actually acting like adults and communicated with each other. If it's not the first book, it's definitely the first one in a very long while. I loved how refreshing that was to read.
The one thing I REALLY wanted to see was Mads standing up to her parents. She spent so much of her life wanting to be loved and cared for, and she values honesty because her parents never gave that to her. I love how Jesse was able to be that person for her, up to the point where the Ashcrofts see him as a threat. I suppose I can make the argument that establishing her independence away from her family, living on her own, and getting her own job was her act of rebellion, but I guess I'm just that kind of person who really would've wanted a scene where she puts her foot down and tells her parents off and puts them in their place. Like, seriously, I wanted to punch her parents in the face.
While this was my first Lily Miller book, this won't be my last, and I can't wait to eventually read the rest of the books in this series at some point! This is your reminder to support the indie authors as much as you love the trad publishing ones, because you'll never know when you'll find your next favorite read or author. (Please tell me the next book is Wes and Lottie. I'm begging you!!)

This was my first Lily Miller book and it definitely will not be my last because I had way too much fun with this.
Jesse and Madeline pulled me in early with that sharp, spark-filled first meeting, and even though Jesse felt a little too sweet and unsure at the start, he really grew on me. Their chemistry settled into something natural and easy, and I found myself drawn into every interaction without even realizing it.
What stayed with me most was the contrast between them. Madeline carries so much pressure from her family, and it shapes how guarded she is, which made her feel incredibly real. Jesse surprised me in the best way because beneath all that charm, he is thoughtful and steady when it matters. The fake dating, forced proximity, and one bed setup delivered all the tension and banter, but it was the quieter moments and emotional growth that gave the story its depth.
By the end, I was smiling but also a little soft over how everything came together. It balances fun, tension, and emotion really well without feeling too heavy, making it such an easy and enjoyable read. Definitely one to pick up if you are in the mood for something romantic, engaging, and just a little swoony.
A really enjoyable story that is easy to recommend.

This was my first Lily Miller book and it certainly wouldn't be the last. Honestly, Jesse and Mads' story was the kind that tasted better the longer you savored. For some reason, Jesse was entirely TOO SWEET for my liking in the beginning, but then the chemistry between him and Mads became more and more natural and I found myself completely hooked with the story. The workplace romance was pretty well-done, even though most of the time Jesse didn't feel like Mads' boss at all because of how indecisive he seemed whenever she was around. Thankfully, the HEA was as promising as it could be and all the steamy scenes did not disappoint. In short, Rule Breaker was a lovely romcom suitable for everyone so please go pick it up!

Madeline was new in town, eager to start working at her new job and leave her demanding life behind. What she haven't anticipated was the fact that she was going to meet one of her new bosses from Cove at a local bar, where things didn't go that well. Even from that moment, there was a weird tension between them, which only got stronger with each interaction they had. On top of that, the part where her boss, handsome Jesse Winters, volunteered to be her fake date, for a gala event Madeline's crazy parents pressured her into going, made this tension almost unbearable. But will they risk it all for what was blossoming between them?
I had such a great time with Madeline and Jesse, because of that constant banter between them. They were super delicious! It was a slow burn with so much built up tension, especially because of Jesse, who was pretty much obsessed about Madeline. I truly hated her parents, who were so insensitive, always looking for advantages and to look good in the other people's eyes. But Madeline was deeply affected by that and I was impressed by Jesse and his determination to defend Madeline at all costs. I liked that bond the Winter brother's had, in spite of the difficult times they had growing up. I loved the atmosphere they all created.
Be prepared for a pretty spicy story, with some really intriguing and infuriating parts, which will keep you turning the pages. It was a nice read by this author, being the first book I read by Lily Miller. The ending was super captivating, because we had the chance to get a glimpse of the couple who will appear in the next book of this series.🤭

I first fell in love with Deep Cove from Deal Breaker being my first ARC read, and I'm so grateful I got to ARC read for Rule Breaker and come back to Deep Cove.
This story Does. Not. Disappoint! I’ve been rooting for Jesse since he was first introduced, and his story was everything I hoped for and more.
Mads and Jesse's story is absolutely beautiful. I found myself smiling the entire book. This book has it all love, teasing, work place romance, banter, sneaking around(ish), spice 🌶️ oh my goodness. Especially the elevator scene?! The back story and growth from both is *chefs kiss*. It leaves you fighting the urge to find your very own Jesse!! The way he stands up for Mads, and how she slowly learns to trust him it's beautiful.
I felt every emotion both characters felt, I loved seeing more of all the characters, how close the brothers are and the heart melting love Jesse has for Poppy.
Lily Miller has this incredible ability to weave a massive love story with so many twists without ever making it feel rushed. I definitely teared up at least three times especially the ending.
I'm so grateful to Lily for this ARC 🩷 I love this whole town and brothers so much and I'm officially counting down the days for Wes’s book!

Lily Miller. Lily freakin’ Miller. I absolutely devoured Jesse and Madeline’s story… they were equal parts banter and steamy! There was absolutely something so special about Jesse noticing Madeline, and that was it for him.. he was so head over heels for her. The way he constantly showed up for her, invited her into his life, and made sure that without a doubt, she felt special. Madeline’s used to having love be something conditional and earned - but then Jesse proves all the those things wrong. These two support one another in everything they do! I loved how Madeline’s walls start to come down with Jesse, and how easy their relationship felt. It was special, heartfelt, and these two in the bedroom had me swooning HARD! And also, I have a soft spot for all of Jesse’s nicknames for Madeline!
I loved being back in Deep Cove and with the Winters brothers! I really cannot wait to see Wes’ story come to life! As always — I loved yet another book by Lily and I’m so grateful to have gotten to read it early!

This book starts with such an adorable meet-cute that I immediately liked Madeline after her first interaction with Jesse.
Madeline and Jesse are almost complete opposites, which makes their dynamic even more fun to read. Madeline has a complicated relationship with her parents, and it’s clear how deeply that has shaped who she is. Some of those moments are heartbreaking, but I loved seeing how the people in her life step up and support her when she needs it most.
Jesse is Madeline’s boss who can’t seem to stay away from her no matter how hard he tries… although, let’s be honest, he doesn’t try hard at all He sees something special in Madeline that she struggles to see in herself, and he’s determined to help her realize it. Of course, he’s also carrying a secret that could threaten both his relationship with her and with his brothers.
Their banter is one of my favorite parts of the book. It’s cute, flirty, and so natural that I found myself chasing their conversations on the page because I didn’t want them to end. I loved watching their playful friendship slowly deepen as they learn more about each other and begin to show up for one another in both quiet and big ways.
I also really enjoy when we get to understand a character through the other person’s perspective. Seeing how much they value each other through those POV shifts makes the connection feel even more special.
And the elevator scene was absolutely top tier. 👌🏼 IYKYK
With plenty of spice, flirting, and banter, this story also delivers a really sweet sense of found family. Watching Madeline and Jesse navigate their individual struggles while building something together made for a really enjoyable read.

I am loving this series from Lily Miller! As much as I loved Ford & Landyn’s story in book 1, I think I love Jesse & Madeline’s story even more. And I didn’t see that coming. All. the. stars!!

He loves hard, and he’s the first one outside her small circle to love her easily, unconditionally, and unapologetically. I loved to see Madeline find herself and shine the way she wanted to. She wanted to find her own path and didn’t apologize for it – nor should she. I loved getting to peel back the layers of this family a bit more and see more of how the brothers got to this point. I didn’t expect to find little pieces of this story and these characters that I identified with so much, and that’ll get me every time. I can’t wait for the next book! Highly recommend!

This was my first Lily Miller novel but it won't be my last. I loved the relationship between Jesse and Madeline. They pulled me in from their initial meeting and their chemistry felt so natural. I couldn't put this book down until I finished the last page even though it was way past my bedtime. But it was so worth it. Madeline was understandably guarded due to her family dynamics and the pressure they put on her. I loved when her walls started to fall. Jesse was such a thoughtful, stand up guy underneath all that charm. He made Madeline feel so special and was always there. The nicknames Jesse had for her were so cute. The tension from the forced proximity and a fake dating relationship gave way to great banter and even better spice. It gave emotional without being too heavy. If you want steamy, fun and swoon worthy, then this is a great read.

I was so happy to be chosen for the ARC for this book.
I loved the banter between Jesse and Madeline right from the beginning. The way Lily writes really hooks you and makes you want to read the book. I was rooting for Jesse as you could tell he was more than just the play boy vibe he was acting like. I melted when he showed up for Madeline by going to her parents event after hearing the phone call from her mum. All women need a man who shows up like Jesse, book boyfriend much?! It was great how Madeline revealed all the different layers of Jesse.
The spice was a great level, just the right balance of spice and plot.
I will definitely read the rest of this series now as I'm quite invested in these characters!

Not the cute fluffy kind either. The kind that snap and crackle like two wires touching. She cannot stand his smug, charming, infuriating face… and honestly the way she tells him exactly where he can shove that grin had me cheering.
And Jesse Winters. Wow. This man walks into the story carrying the reputation of a West Coast heartbreaker who coasts through life on charm and good looks. But the deeper the story goes, the more layers you see. Underneath all that swagger is someone surprisingly thoughtful and soft in ways I did NOT expect. Watching those pieces slowly reveal themselves felt like unwrapping a present you weren’t supposed to peek at yet.
The forced proximity in this book? Absolute gold.
One plane ride.
One hotel room.
One bed.
The tension in those scenes practically vibrates off the page. Their fake date situation starts as pure convenience but it very quickly stops feeling fake. The little looks, the possessive energy, the way Jesse starts showing up for her in quiet ways… I was melting.

ARC Review
I have been waiting for Jesse’s story since he was first introduced in Deal Breaker. Even though he was just a supporting character, I just loved him. He had that class clown vibe going. He was funny but I could tell there was more to him than that. And after reading Rule Breaker, I was right! Jesse was so much more than your class clown and a player. He was loving and caring and had a heart of gold! And can we talk about the spice?!!! Woo wee! He had a filthy mouth behind closed doors!
But more than that this was a story about found family as well, being brave, standing up for yourself . I identified with Madeline in more ways than one. Family isn’t always blood, it’s who you choose. And Mads family was awful! And it was so brave of her to walk away from it all and stand up for herself. It’s not an easy thing to do. You need support and Mads has that in both Jesse and even her sister.
And on the other hand, you had Jesse, trying to hang on to just a smidge of his relationship with his father. A shitty father at that but still, his heart was so big that he still wanted that relationship even if it hurt him. Sometimes losing a parent at a young age makes you want to hang onto the one you have left even if they don’t choose you back or put your first.

Jesse—wow! 😍 I fell so deeply for him, and I’m proud to say he’s now one of my top book boyfriends. 🤭 I loved how fiercely Jesse defended Madeline, how he was always there, caring and showing up for her. He refused to let her parents control her and constantly reminded her of her worth. His obsession with her was so endearing—how he showed her she’s special, even reading her romance novels and collecting her sticky notes! 💞 Reading his pov was a revelation; it was captivating to glimpse into his mind. DNF @ ch. 9 I wanted to like this book. It seemed like a good story line but the writing was just so bad. It was way too detailed with their inner monologue. His obsession with her from early on wasn’t sweet, it was just weird and annoying.

As a result, she keeps most people at a distance… until Jesse. Her new boss slowly breaks through those walls with patience, kindness, and the quiet support she never knew she needed.
Jesse was simply amazing. He has such a kind heart and cares deeply for the people he loves. And Jesse doesn’t love halfway, he loves fully, with everything he has. The moment Madeleine truly enters his life, he is completely gone for her.
These two were absolutely feral for each other. They could barely keep their hands off one another, and Lily definitely delivered on the spice in this book. It was delicious. Jesse made sure Madeleine knew exactly how much she meant to him. You have to love a man who proudly claims his woman, always with her full consent, of course.

I loved reading Jesse and Madeline’s book. Their story was captivating from the start, and since I enjoyed the first book, I was excited to read more about the Winters brothers.
Madeline moved to Deep Cove for a fresh start, and she was about to begin working for the Winters brothers at their company. The week before starting her job, she went out with her roommate and ran into Jesse. She recognized him right away, and while he flirted with her, she didn’t hesitate to put him in his place. Madeline felt nervous about starting her new job and seeing Jesse again, but she was surprised when he acted like he didn’t remember her.
Jesse couldn’t get the mysterious girl he met out of his head, and he was fascinated by her because she didn’t fall for his charm. He later let Madeline know he hadn’t forgotten her and was determined to show her he wasn’t the man she thought he was. I really enjoyed their banter and how their connection grew stronger as they spent more time together. Jesse was attracted to Madeline from the beginning, and it was nice to see how their tension developed throughout the book.
Madeline had a difficult relationship with her parents, but she still tried to be there for them when they asked. She had to attend a gala, and Jesse offered to go with her. At first, she refused, but he eventually convinced her. When they arrived at the hotel, there was a problem with their reservation, so they had to share a room. Madeline wasn’t happy about it, but Jesse didn’t mind, and I loved how he enjoyed teasing her.
Jesse kept flirting with Madeline, and I liked reading about their interactions and how they slowly began to open up about their lives. Madeline felt uncomfortable at the gala with her parents, so I appreciated how Jesse supported her and stood up to them. He wanted to distract her, so they shared a dance, and they couldn’t deny their chemistry. Back at the hotel, the tension between them finally broke, and they gave in to their attraction.
In the following days at work, Madeline tried to keep her distance after an awkward moment with her parents, but Jesse reassured her that she wasn’t to blame. They met again at Jesse’s brother’s house during a staff party, and their flirting continued. Jesse was honest about how he couldn’t stop thinking about her, and they shared another intense moment. After that, their relationship started to change.

First of all, thank you to Lily Miller for the ARC—this was such a fun and addictive read!
Rule Breaker is the second book in the Deep Cove Millionaires Club series, and it delivers everything I love in a romance: enemies-to-lovers tension, office dynamics, and emotional depth. I’m not usually someone who enjoys slow-burn romances, but this one completely hooked me from the very first chapter. I genuinely could not put it down.
The story follows Jesse Winters, co-owner of Cove’s Apparel and head of the marketing team, and Madeline Ashcroft, the company’s newest hire. I loved that they actually meet before working together—at a bar—and Jesse is immediately drawn to her. So when she ends up joining his team, there’s already that tension simmering beneath the surface, which made their dynamic even more engaging right from the start.
Their relationship development was one of my favorite parts. The enemies-to-lovers element comes more from their clashing personalities and professional boundaries rather than over-the-top drama, which made it feel natural and believable. Their chemistry was consistent throughout the book, and I really enjoyed watching their connection grow while still holding onto that tension.
One of my absolute favorite parts was the gala for Madeline’s father’s political event. That whole sequence was so well done—it brought tension, vulnerability, and forced proximity all together. And when they get to the hotel and there’s a mix-up that leaves them sharing a room? I loved it so much. It’s one of my favorite tropes, and this book delivered it perfectly. Those scenes added so much to their relationship and really made the emotions hit harder.
Jesse completely stole my heart. He’s not just confident and successful—he’s incredibly supportive, especially when it comes to Madeline’s family struggles. The way he consistently shows up for her and helps her navigate everything going on in her personal life made him feel like such a strong and comforting presence. He really became her safe place, and I loved that dynamic.
Madeline was also a really strong and relatable character. I appreciated her resilience and how she handled both her career and the complicated situation with her family—especially with the added pressure of her father being in politics. Her growth felt genuine, and it made her character even more compelling.
I also loved getting little glimpses of Ford, Landyn, and Poppy—it made the world feel more connected, and as someone who really enjoyed Deal Breaker, it was so nice seeing those familiar characters again. I already miss them!
Overall, I absolutely loved Rule Breaker and I’m giving it 5 stars. It was emotional, engaging, and completely binge-worthy—I devoured it from start to finish. I’m already excited to see what comes next in the series.

I had been waiting to read Jesse since the first book, and I have to say, he didn’t disappoint me at all
Jesse has the most charming, flirty, and carefree personality out of the Winters. He doesn’t do serious or long-term relationships, but that changes when he meets Madeline, who is so different from him —and that only captivates him even more.
Jesse had a difficult childhood; he lost his mother at a young age and grew up without a father figure from that moment on. The abandonment and neglect left a wound in him. Even so, he always had his brothers, and during those hard times they went through together, he learned to smile, pretend he was okay, and crack a joke to make them laugh. Madeline truly sees Jesse —not the carefree version who always has a smile to lighten the mood, but the real one: imperfect, human, with fears and scars.
I connected so much with Madeline —she’s very relatable and real. She moves to Deep Cove to get away from her toxic parents, who have tried to control and shape her entire life —far from the expectations and pressure she’s always carried. Letting go of control is really hard for her; it’s what she clings to in order to feel safe after so many years of instability. I loved reading about her personal growth —how she learns to let go, to relax, and most importantly, to lean on the people who love her. The way Jesse makes her feel so safe and loved allows her to truly be herself —vulnerable, trusting, and happy.
Jesse and Madeline are complete opposites, and I think that’s one of the things that makes them so compatible. They balance each other out in the things they struggle to let go of and always help the other recognize when it’s time to pause. This book was so, so, so, very good! If you’re into hot billionaire romances, then you should for sure check this one out! It had flirty banter, workplace stolen glances, moments of standing up for your people, can’t keep hands off, and some moments that left your heart swoon.
Jesse. Jesse. Jesse! My goodness if he doesn’t make you become an instant fan, I don’t know who will. He is so charming, flirty, carefree, and has that natural magnetic attraction that pulls you in. But he has a softer side that most people don’t get to see. He will be the one who works hard, and works hard to claim what’s his. His love language is physical touch, so you can only imagine how hot he is behind closed doors!
Madeline was raised in a very pretentious family with snoody parents who basically are very cold and only want things that benefit them. Which leaves her with trust issues, wanting to people please, and a hard time opening up. She’s also very organized, and I absolutely loved her obsession with sticky note notes! That’s my kind of organization. But when she meets Jesse, he slowly wears her down and it creates this super flirty, sweet, adorable relationship.
Their relationship is one that makes you want to say “get a room”, but is so sweet that they are all about each other. It is spicy, and I am totally ok with that! They are very much there for each other, in all ways, and it’s sweet when Jesse stands up for her against her parents. There is a moment when Jesse pulls away (no spoilers here!) and that left me gut wrenched, because you can see how hard it was on Madeline. But he makes it up to her and ugh, I couldn’t love these two any more!
Overall, this book was everything. It was easy to read, and I loved watching the relationship with Madeline and Jesse grow. It left my heart warm, left me kicking my feet with giddiness, and ultimately had me reading fast so I could see what happens next.
This is the second book in the series, but I read this as a standalone. I will definitely but reading the first one, and can’t wait to see what happens with Wes next!

Their relationship is one that makes you want to say “get a room”, but is so sweet that they are all about each other. It is spicy, and I am totally ok with that! They are very much there for each other, in all ways, and it’s sweet when Jesse stands up for her against her parents. There is a moment when Jesse pulls away (no spoilers here!) and that left me gut wrenched, because you can see how hard it was on Madeline. But he makes it up to her and ugh, I couldn’t love these two any more!
Overall, this book was everything. It was easy to read, and I loved watching the relationship with Madeline and Jesse grow. It left my heart warm, left me kicking my feet with giddiness, and ultimately had me reading fast so I could see what happens next.
This is the second book in the series, but I read this as a standalone. I will definitely but reading the first one, and can’t wait to see what happens with Wes next!
