A Pilgrimage of Pests

Rate this book
When his stink pile of tasty tidbits is washed away by a furious storm, the cantankerous Cockroach is forced to travel from his home in Meadowfield to the distant and foreboding Smoking Hills; where countless numbers of tidbits are rumored to be there for the taking. The only problem, it's also where the dreaded Loomers live; legendary creatures known only through stories passed down from the dead ancestors.
With a lively and incredible cast of pests, including the scheming Silverfish, the bashful Stinkbug, the brilliant Book Louse, and Scarab the Dung, just to name a few, this creative adventure is full of humor, intrigue, and genuine scientific insight into the behavior of insects as told through a fictional tale. The reader is not only thoroughly entertained by the interaction and antics of the “bug-fellows”, but will come away with a whole new way of seeing the world of insects and imagining how our six-legged Arthropods might really think.
The Pilgrimage of Pests is the first book in the "Cockroach of Meadowfield" trilogy for the middle reader.

The Cockroach of Medowfield is an absolutely delightful series.
Ward has a gift for bring his insect characters to life with interesting dialog and an insightful story. Each insect’s diction brings out his or her personality with precise clarity. The overarching mystery, as well as coming to terms with an insect’s worldview, will keep you engaged and wanting to read the next installment. I cannot recommend this series highly enough for late elementary through middle school children or the occasional adult that loves a good read to gain a new perspective on the bios around us.

A Loomer's review

This is a cute adventure that teaches along the way. The bug fellows have personalities that will entertain both boys and girls. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel!
