About the author

Jeremy Lachlan was born and raised on Wiradjuri country, in Griffith, NSW, Australia. A former bookseller, he completed his Honours degree in creative writing at the University of Canberra in 2004, and now calls Sydney home. His debut novel, Jane Doe and the Cradle of All Worlds, was the 2019 Australian Book Industry Award winner for Book of the Year for Older Children, and its sequel, Jane Doe and the Key of All Souls, was shortlisted for the same award in 2021, but both of those pale in comparison to the $100 he once took home in a karaoke competition. He came up with the idea for the Jane Doe Chronicles while lost in the Cairo Museum.

A phenomenal end to a phenomenal series. I’ve loved journeying through the manor with Jane and her found family.

The series I wish I had as a younger me, grateful the world has it now.

I love this series SO MUCH!
I am late to the party, but this was such an epic conclusion to this series!
Even though I wanted more in Jane's world, this ending was amazing. And a long time coming.
I just love these characters so much!

I have been waiting for this series to complete and it could not have been more satisfying!!

I think the ending in particular was done well regarding how the two Janes both ended up. With one of them being endlessly at peace and joyful in becoming one with the Manor, and the other getting to be with Violet and her friends, going off on a adventure. Plus reuniting with her father and old friends was so sweet. When I first read that chapter I thought that there was going to be conflict between the two Janes but I'm so glad that they both got what they needed and what made them happy in the end.

Also, I cannot be the only one who was pleasantly surprised when I found out that Hickory is bi!? And with Junior? Mr Lachlan, you had me so giddy I was kicking my feet when we got that cute (and slightly angsty) insight into their life together popped up. This is the kind of nonchalant m/m relationship that is good to see in media. A "btw im bi" sort of character that no one in the book bats an eye at because it is so normal! This is the bi representation we need, not want!! Hickory x Junior, the ship we never knew we needed.

I do think however that it was weird that Jane was so okay with being with the "other" Violet. Yes, technically, she is the same person in a lot of ways but she is not the exact same as the Violet that got them to Sahramet's cave. The time that had passed and the experiences that came with it while Jane was the Manor had shaped Violet and the others. Therefore I think it is a little unfair that she didn't get to have a happy ending but the past (now present) version of her did. What is weirder to me is how Jane was okay(-ish) about this after being assured that Violet was still, in someway, alive even tho it isn't the same Violet. Overall though, they are super cute so I won't keep myself up about it.

Aki is my favourite. This book solidified it and no one can change my mind now! He single-handedly makes this book 90% more wholesome, and amusing, and I would become prime minister just to give him a small fraction of the world he deserves!

As soon as I saw that this book had been released it instantly made its way to the top of my TBR. I love this book so much and it made me smile with every second sentence.

It’s the end of the Jane Doe series, and it wraps up epically in Book 4 - The God of All Hours.

If you’re not familiar with the series, it begins with our main character Jane’s father going missing. Determined to find him, Jane enters the Manor a strange, ever shifting labyrinth between worlds, filled with perilous traps and dangerous creatures. As she navigates this unpredictable realm, she’s joined by a group of unlikely allies who help her along the way.

The whole series is a fast paced action adventure, rich with complex characters that you’ll grow to love and many you will despise. The evolving plot will keep you hooked and the changing worlds keep the story fresh. Add in the beautifully written relationship between Jane and Violet, the character growth and the unravelling mysteries that we discover along the way and the series has a bit of everything. 😍

Book 4 opens with Jane missing and her friends scattered across the worlds. The stakes are high, so can everything come together in time for Jane to save the Otherworlds? Or is this truly the end of the road?

Without giving too much away for those who haven’t read the series yet and for long time fans alike, you will not be disappointed! The final instalment delivers in every way and the conclusion is a satisfying end. It is clear how much love and care Jeremy Lachlan has poured into these stories and it shines through in his writing.

I’m so so glad nobody died in the end. For a moment there I thought Hickory was gonna sacrifice himself last minute. Thank. GOD.

Also, YESSS!!!! They all got their happily-ever-afters! And can I just say, HICKORY x JUNIOR FOR THE WINNN. They’re genuinely such a cute couple and I love the casual LGBTQ+ representation, that’s something I’ve really appreciated throughout the whole series.

I can’t believe it’s all over :(
I’ve loved growing up with this series and becoming invested in the characters’ world (I still can’t get over Bluehaven = Earth). You know what would be so cool? Little comics or short stories of their adventures in the Dying Lands after the series has ended. Or short stories that happened between Book 3 and 4, like one from Violet’s POV in building that society with Aki and Boon, or one about Hickory and Junior’s life together. OR EVEN THE OTHER CHRONICLES: Topher Miles and the Lighting Bell, Ruby Dawn and the Well of Tears, etc (p19-20). Omg there’s so much possibility in writing more for this universe.

(Ngl, this book series would absolutely slap as an animated series or movie franchise- GIVEN THAT THE TASK IS IN THE RIGHT HANDS!)

However, I’m excited to see what Jeremy Lachlan writes next. This has been one of the best series that I’ve read.

This was such a fantastic middle grade series. Jane is a brilliant main character. She’s funny and strong-willed and she has such a big heart.

The ending to book one blew my mind and really set the rest of the series up in such a fantastic way. And the ending to book three similarly had me itching for more!

This series has such a solid found family. I really love this ragtag group that’s built along the way, but I won’t lie that Aki is my fave. He’s just so sweet in his own weird way and I love how much he cares about the people in his life even though we never get to hear him say it cos…y’know…language barrier. He shows it in so many ways. But all of them are truly great.

I’m emotional about that ending. About all of it tbh. I highly recommend checking this series out.

Such an epic conclusion. The adventures that Jeremy Lachlan takes us on in these novels are very hard to put down books. A definite must read for fantasy lovers.
