A Time of Reckoning, by Glenda Ferguson Tippins, is the sequel to The Simple Hand of Fate. Bill Weiland, grief-stricken after the death of his wife, Cantly, leaves everything behind, including his newborn daughter, Sarah, and immigrates to California.
When Bill arrives in California, through a series of adventures and coincidences he falls into a good job at a hotel. It doesn t take long for the owner to see how able and talented Bill is; these traits, along with his boyish charm and beautiful smile, help Bill to move up in the world.
When Sarah grows older, Bill finds a way to have her join him in California. He is able to provide for her in a way no one back home would ever have imagined. She grows up with her mother s tragic story in the background; and one fine day she decides to do something about it.
