Its good but didnt really hit the heights that I thought it was supposed to.

It starts of decent with an introduction to Soule's Daredevil and also a new trainee hero in Blindspot, I liked the supernatural element the story had and Ten-Fingers was a decent villain until he got chopped to pieces by The Hand.

The following two issues are Elektra focused and for me they seemed kinda pointless all round. The next story I really enjoyed but that was mainly due to Spider-man being the supporting hero, Daredevil and Spideys interactions were really fun to read and enjoyed seeing Matt gambling. The Echo story was similar to the Elektra one in how pointless it is but its actually worse because the art is very distracting and the villain, Klaw (Golum from BP1 and Age of Ultron), appeared for like 2 panels.

Probably my favourite part of the whole book was the Seventh Circle arc. I really enjoyed the constant fighting going on between Punisher and Daredevil as while they are both on the same side (kinda) Punisher doesn't see any of other way of handling a threat other than blowing their head clean off while Daredevil believes that everyone deserves a fair trial. Matt was struggling with his viewpoint throughout as he considered whether this criminal even deserved to live, at one point he nearly did him in himself, I wonder if this is alluding to Soule's Daredevil going down a darker route later in his run.

I haven't read Mark Waids run of the character so I missed the references made towards that in here such as Matt secret identity being out there for awhile before Matt somehow made everyone forgot, but its still easy enough to follow. I really liked some of the artwork at show throughout the book, helped sell the dark and gritty nature of Soules run plus black suit Daredevil goes HARD.

I will still pick up the next two books as apparently the Muse stuff is really good so I wanna read that.

As I loyal fan of both Brubaker and Waid, I stalled reading the next installations of Daredevil, mostly because the point I left it off was perfect, and also after diving into "real comics" such as series from Image, you get a much better taste of both art and literature. and the non-aging and corporately-owned characters of Marvel start to bore you after some time.

Yet, when I saw the three new paperbacks of this run combining the original run of all eight volumes, I just bought all three, and dived into DD Vol.5 a.k.a. Soule Era.

I understand why people feel irritated by it, because the tone they build up with the Waid Era and the "character improvements / changes" of Matt are just gone. He keeps saying it was a choice, you know, to put the genie back in the bottle, but the radical shift in the tone, not to mention the absence of Foggy and Kirsten are so obvious. Nevertheless, I genuinely enjoyed this one, even though I completely wanted to smack Matt on his fucking head, but it's not because of how the story is written. It's just that his understanding of the law and pathetic obsession with religion make me wanna puke. But these are parts of his identity, so as long as they keep these stable there is nothing I can do.

The art was beautiful, the combinations of red-black-white were delightful to look at, and the small arcs (card game etc.) were also quite innovative. We will probably go into the D.A.'s office and the courtrooms soon, so I will see how Soule being a lawyer in real life helps the series. I am both hopeful and confident!

I should probably go buy the Vol.s 6 & 7 a.k.a. Zdarsky Era because the remaining two books of Soule will just go by within a week each, probably :)

Enjoy.

Not the best pero no me molesto.

The first in a trilogy—the influence of Daredevil’s black suit era is potent, with all three of these books delivering on an escalating story that begins with the Hand’s presence in New York City following a defector known as Ten-Fingers.
