I wanted to love this book, but the plot was just dragging on and the writing definitely needed an editor. I also felt like the mystery aspect was kinda meh.

Also (mild spoiler‼️) everyone expects her to move on from her boyfriends death after one year? And I still don’t understand how exactly Wade was abusive. Maybe not the best boyfriend, sure, but abusive? I just didn’t really get that vibe. It felt forced.

But anyways I shall leave you with some examples of the writing:

I sit up slowly, hearing my spine crack under me. “Where’s mom?”

My shirt is untucked, exposing a bit of my smooth skin. (!!!) I pull it down, then looking at my parents who are huddled on a bench, probably looking at photos from previous summers at Crescent’s Point.

The humidity starts to hit me even though the AC is open, so I roll down the window to feel a cooler breeze.

I wash my mouth, then shuffling over in the room to dig through my suitcase and find an outfit.

I remember smiling, flopping on his bed and twisting my body in his sheets. At this point, his parents had already waken up for coffee, so they weren’t disturbed by my early-morning chaos.

I stare at the lavender candle flickering on the table, willing the tears to stop. “What do I do now?” “I do.” She fixes me with a compassionate look.

Officer Ainsley had been recount my steps everywhere.
