This book is written for orthodontists who want to take control of both their lives and their practices. The author may not come from a background in orthodontics but brings years of experience in coaching and guiding people toward living fuller, more intentional lives.

It opens with a disclaimer: if you already have everything figured out, this book likely won’t resonate. But for those still trying to find their footing—those who feel stuck, restless, or caught in a rut—this work offers a path forward. The journey begins with self-exploration, with the author emphasizing that true change starts with caring for yourself first.

The writing style is refreshingly simple. Rather than dense or overly complex theories, the book is delivered in bite-sized, digestible pieces that create space for reflection. Each chapter offers not just insights but gentle nudges to pause, consider, and apply the lessons personally.
Throughout, the author introduces frameworks and guides the reader through a process of understanding and applying them. The entire work is anchored in one profound principle, expressed by Carl Jung: “Making the unconscious conscious for one’s benefit.” This guiding idea underpins the book’s purpose and gives it real weight.

One phrase that particularly struck me came from the section on Alignment (6 Laws of Letting Go): “Know thyself.” That timeless wisdom is what makes this book impactful, even for readers outside of orthodontics. Mapping our way to freedom, as the author lays out, is only possible if we are willing to truly know ourselves and bring that self-awareness into the exercises offered here.
This is more than a book for orthodontists—it’s a manual for reclaiming clarity, purpose, and balance in both work and life. A must-read for anyone ready to stop running on autopilot and start living with intention.

A Courageous Call to Face Yourself and Grow
I decided to give the author’s advice a try even though I’m not an orthodontist, because I’ve been feeling stuck in life and was curious whether the principles might apply to me. What surprised me is how much of David King’s message extends far beyond orthodontics. Our health, family, habits, and beliefs all matter, and that truth really resonated with me. Change doesn’t just happen in one area; it flows outward like a trickle-down effect. I also appreciate that King makes himself accessible by offering his contact information, which shows he stands behind his work and wants to see others succeed. I found real value here.

A breath of fresh air

Freedom Mapping was like a breath of fresh air to me. I liked that it is direct and honest mainly about burnout, especially in professions where people feel they should already have everything figured out.
Moreover, I liked that the author doesn’t sugarcoat the emotional side of leadership. I found it interesting that he tackles it head-on in a way that is practical and compassionate.

If I had read this book a few years ago, I could have saved myself from months of frustration. Freedom Mapping gives you permission to step back, breathe, and reimagine what success looks like. The framework is straightforward but life changing. I walked away with a renewed vision for my business and my life. This book belongs on every leader’s shelf.

create lasting change, with your team.

A self-help strategy based on "starting at the helm of the issue, yourself" The author presents practical and logical information for Orhodontists. But if you ask me, anyone inner a leadership and supervisory role could benefit from this book.
