I am usually not this lucky in life, but with this book, I did get lucky. Like many, I live in a world where every other conversation, thought, and piece of reading material today seems to have AI at the front, back, and centre. Naturally, that brings with it a fair share of anxiety about what the future will look like and where my place in it might be. This was true, more so in the days leading up to this book than at any other time before.

Unlike Uzair’s podcast appearances that are infamously known for leaving listeners more worried than reassured, this book had the exact opposite effect on me.

It showed me why much of my anxiety was misplaced. I realized I had been thinking in the same way a typewriter typist might have on the eve of the computer’s arrival. That is, through the narrow lens of pre-revolution productivity levels. Uzair argues persuasively in the book why this is a flawed approach.

The book’s central thesis about the convergence of technologies and how the Global South can and should benefit from it is also very well thought out, researched, and written. A brilliant read overall!

I only wish it had been a bit longer, but more than that, I hope Uzair keeps writing more books.
