I’m not a real beaver. I just play one for the Bloomburg Aspens. You’d be surprised how many times I need to clarify that. It’s not a traditional job, but between my yoga studio and playing the beaver, it pays the bills. The beaver mascot gig also comes with one Don’t reveal my identity to anyone.
Which wasn’t a big deal until I met this guy at the bar. A hot guy with a shy smile and a huge…wood. Lukas Pine. A hockey player for the Bloomburg Aspens.
He was only supposed to be a one-night stand, but we keep finding each other. Usually with our clothes off. In my defense, I had to tell him. You should know you’re sleeping with the team mascot. Especially when the players aren’t supposed to know who I am. Lukas is more than happy to keep it a secret, but there’s a new problem.
We’re not very good at hiding it.
And that’s when I learn riding pine isn’t always fun.
Riding Pine is a standalone novel set in the Bloomburg universe of the Sheltered Connections and Broken Horn Ranch series. A smart-mouthed former circus acrobat and a tender-hearted hockey tough guy at the end of his playing days are so hot together they have to bend not just their bodies, but the rules, to stay together. This story is pure ridiculousness with loads of spice and all the feels…oh, and some hockey.

Back in Bloomberg after being an aerialist in Vegas, Ben takes on a job as the local hockey team’s mascot to pay the bills. As a mascot, no one is supposed to know your identity, but that becomes quite the pickle when Ben falls for one of the players.
Riding Pine is my first introduction to Neil’s books, but definitely not my last. This was such a spicy, fun, and super sweet read! Ben and Lukas’s instant chemistry hooked me from the start, and I just loved them both so much.
This book had me hooked right from the start, full of chemistry and that delicious "we shouldn't, but we absolutely will" energy. The forbidden aspect was handled so well, adding just the right amount of angst without dragging it out too long. Lukas and Ben were so adorable together. Lukas is simply wonderful, sweet, gentle, and kind. Ben is a sassy bundle of fun who can get his snark on at the snap of his fingers if needed. Together, the guys complement each other perfectly. RM hit the nail on the head in her intro, the world is burning, and what better way to block it all out than with a low angst, sweet romance. Such a sweet book. Lukas and Ben have great chemistry, sizzling, in fact. The secondary characters are, on the whole, lovely. All in all, this was an enjoyable read that will warm the cockles of your heart. Definitely recommended.
I received an ARC of this story, which in no way influenced my opinion.
This book is a steamy, and I mean steamy, low angst love story. Welcome back to Bloomberg ya’ll!
Ben is a bendy former circus performer. He teaches yoga, is contemplating a “naps” class for busy moms, and living with his bestie James. Ben misses performing at the circus. When he’s offered a chance to perform as a beaver mascot for the local hockey team, he thinks on it and says yes. Then he meets Lukas, a handsome, brute of a hockey player for the same team. Can he keep his secret?
Oh man this story is steamy. One might ask is there more to the story than steam? I would say yes. This is an RM Neill book, of course there is sweet romance. Ben is not a romantic person. Neither Ben or Lukas has relationships of the lasting variety. Yet these two fall into the romance so perfectly that neither knows what hits them. It had everything I look for in a good book: well developed characters, a good setting, and a great story. I feel like what I liked best about Riding Pine is that it is a little different than RM Neill's regular books. Both Ben and Lukas just had this charm that blew me away and the way they fell in love when it hadn't happened before and their emotions about it all just kept me reading more. I think every book has its place and this one really settles in with both the Sheltered Connections and the Broken Horn series without being a part of them. I also really want more if that is possible. I really loved RM's earlier hockey books and this story was bringing all that back for me. Ya'll I don't do sports, but I sure do love reading about them. I absolutely loved this story and seeing the folks from earlier books. This book filled my cup for sure and I'm glad that it was written even if there are no more Aspens Hockey books to come.
This is a fun, low angst romance. Ben is a former elite aerialist in Vegas whose career and job ended at the same time. He has moved back home to rebuild his life. He has started with opening a yoga studio but he could use some more cash flow. So he applies for the job of team mascot Slappy the Beaver for the Bloomburg Aspens. He gets the job but has the additional restriction of not letting anyone know it is him in the beaver costume. While normally that wouldn't be a problem but he has met someone and he is a hockey player on the team. The chemistry between them is off the charts but Ben doesn't like lying and not telling feels like he is lying. And after what his ex pulled on Ben in Las Vegas, he is all about honesty in a relationship. Lukas Pine is a professional hockey player and fairly new to town. He and Ben meet at a bar when Ben promises to teach him how to do handstands and walk on his hands. Both of them have chemistry for days and work off some excess energy together. Lukas is on the downward slope of his career and is hoping to stay with the team until it ends. Of course, now that he and Ben keep sparking off each other, he has other reasons to want to stay. This is their story. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. The book is well written and easy to read. I enjoyed watching their relationship slowly develop. Of course, there are a few bumps along the way to their HEA but is is a fun journey to read. This is a story with a lot of heart that will leave a smile on your face.
TITLE LINE: Mascot chaos, soft boyfriend energy, and a whole lot of spice
Rating: ★★★★☆ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tropes: Sports romance • Secret identity • Work relationship (kind of) • Low angst MM romance
Review: Ben and Lukas are the definition of serotonin with abs.
Ben is a former circus aerialist who now teaches yoga and pole fitness—and somehow winds up as Slappy, the mascot for the Bloomburg Aspens. His contract says his identity has to stay a secret, which becomes a problem when he starts dating Lukas… a player on that same team.
From handstands at a bar (yes, really) to sneaking around the arena trying not to get caught, their chemistry is explosive. But what makes the story so good is how emotionally safe they are together. Lukas is proud of Ben—of his talent, his confidence, and the joy he brings to every space. Ben supports Lukas through a major turning point in his hockey career.
These two don’t tear each other apart for drama; they choose each other.
Minor downside: Christine, the marketing manager, is set up as shady but her storyline gets wrapped up quickly without much detail. It didn’t ruin anything, but more payoff would’ve been satisfying.
If you want a sexy, fluffy, low-angst MM sports romance where the characters are supportive, happy, and genuinely healthy — this is it.
Riding Pine is set in the Bloomburg universe of the Sheltered Connections and Broken Horn Ranch series but is a standalone. This is the story of Ben the Bloomburg Aspens mascot, who no one is supposed to know who he is and Lukas a hockey player for the Bloomburg Aspens. I loved the characters and spice in this book. I loved watching these two go from a one night stand to a relationship. I loved the humor and just the whole thing. This was a quick fun read that I would definitely recommend. received a free review copy
This was probably more of a 3/3.5* but it's December already and I am feeling generous with my ratings. The story was really good and they first meeting was actually cute. The whole story unfolded without any major drama which is just what I like at this time of the year. Bonus points for the different sex positions due to bendiness galore ;)
This was exactly what I needed right now. A fun, lighthearted, low angst and steamy story! I absolutely adored Lukas and Ben's meet cute, it was such a fun meeting! I loved their chemistry and how their story played out. I enjoyed the fact that they communicated and had the discussions that needed to happen. I just really enjoyed the vibe of the whole story, and I loved the cameos from R.M. Neill's other characters. I loved Ben's sassyness and take charge attitude when he wanted someting. I also really enjoyed Lukas' gentle ways and absolite adoration of Ben. If Ben finally starts his nap class then I would for sure sign up!
If you'd like to reas about a hockey player get his HEA with a former circus performer/aerialist turned team mascot then this is the book for you. It will make you laugh, swoon and sweat all in one go.
I received an ARC from Neon Rainbow ARC Reviews and these are my thoughts about this book.
What a delightful, light-hearted, sexy story with hockey player Lukas and fitness instructor Ben in an adorable and unusual meet cute which leads to one hot, steamy, spicy, acrobatic hookup, which evolves into a longer lasting mutual obsession with more spicy times together as often as possible. In the process of spending time together, they are also learning things about each other, quickly moving to friends with benefits, then eventually the feelings kick in and it is more than either expected based on that first night.
Ben is newly back in town, having lost his job as an aerialist in the circus in Las Vegas, now working as a yoga, pole fit and aerial silks instructor in his own studio. He has been offered the position of mascot for the local hockey team as Slappy the Beaver. He isn’t ecstatic about the name, the costume, or the rule that he can tell no one that he is the mascot, he feels red flags from Christine the PR person, but decides to do the job anyway. At the time he takes the position, he is unaware that Lukas is a member of the hockey team. Once he finds out, he feels compelled to tell Lukas, feeling honesty is the best policy in this situation. Neither knows if Lukas could get in trouble for conflict of interest because of the relationship, as he is new to the team, so the two decide to keep their relationship low key.
As the relationship develops and the heat level shows no sign of subsiding, the two must be aware of the logistics and secrecy around the hockey rink while still dating to see if the fit is one that deserves exploring beyond the physical connection —and it is! It does, however, create complications trying to keep the hockey connection secret while Ben tries to maintain the boyfriend persona with Lukas’s friends. The secrecy does cause stress for both, first from the “tell no one for fear of termination” and then from uncertainty about whether some policy may be broken with their relationship within the organization. But fortuitous encounters with strangers, and their sense of honesty toward their predicament does find them able to find a long term solution.
I adored Ben, he is so sunny and cheerful, funny, quick with a joke or snarky comment, caring and supportive of Lukas, wanting to spend more time together, honest and responsible, and “very bendy” which Lukas enjoys. Lukas has never really had a relationship before, and he takes awhile to work through the importance Ben has taken on in his life, the feelings of protectiveness and caring that are emotions he hasn’t really held before. It takes Ben awhile to come to the realization that Lukas is someone he wants to be with, more than just for sexy times, but as much as possible anytime, anywhere. Lukas goes through the same process as Ben does, realizing fairly quickly that Ben is always on his mind, he is missed when they’re apart, and he would put Ben over hockey if necessary. Their journey from hookup to friends to lovers to the one they love and want to be with is so sweet, it had me smiling pretty much the whole book. I loved Ben in his Slappy persona, and could picture his game entertainment quite vividly in my mind.
I did wonder what happened further with Christine since there was a mention more than once about odd feelings about her. The same is true for Mitch, he had the potential to create havoc of his own, but was either thwarted in some way or just made a choice to ignore, which didn’t seem in character for him.
This is such an entertaining story, I think anyone would enjoy this low-angst tale, and especially Slappy’s hijinks, Lukas’s protectiveness, and Ben’s positive attitude. This is a book I would recommend as an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. I hope we will get James’s story in the future.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.
I have previously only read cowboy flavoured books from @r.m.neill_author but I was instantly in love with book from the cover. But then you read the blurb and how it’s just absolutely bonkers. And then the inside note to the reader is even cuter and funnier and gah. RM IS SO ENDEARING AND GENUINE and PRECIOUS. but she also has SUCH a SP1cy streak to her. Such a good combo!
Anyway if I wasn’t already a fan, this one book just SEALED it for me! One of my dark horse faves of the year! I devoured it and was SO in love with each character and everything was so cute and ridiculous and PUNNY and self-deprecating gah I could go on but I gotta REVIEW it!
Okay so the story opens with our runaway ex circus aerialist Ben who is back in small town Bloomberg and trying to make ends meet running a yoga studio has a dead seggsy dude fall at his feet in a bar while trying to do a handstand. So then he’s teaching him how to do a handstand. Then he’s doing a SP1CY 🌶️ handstand in a motel! His hookup is great, hot! 🥵 kinda wishes he could do it again!
Then. They kinda do? And he finds out his dude is the captain of the local hockey team. And as Paris Hilton would say, “That’s hot.” And then he’s doing SP1cy yoga for his hookup.
Post- 🥜 he applies to be the team mascot for the local AHL hockey team. Cause he needs💰 and performing is performing! And he can’t think about this dude!
Except wouldnt this be a forbidden 🚫 work romance if they continued?
Yes dear reader, they shouldn’t but they totally *did*.
And it’s hot, and funny 😆 and the seggsiest forbidden work romance you could think of.
To add to the punny shenanigans, RM made Lukas PINE 🌲 a PLANT DÂDDY. honestly. IS THIS BOOK EVEN REAL???
Yes, yes it is and the courtship is SO SO hot and cute and ridiculous and seggsy. Has more wall-seggs than you can shake a stick at. Loads of quality cameo’s from previous books, and the only crime I can see is that this is a standalone when you KNOW damn well that at least ONE side chatacter is perfect and deserves a book.
This was a cute hockey romance, and one that I didn't realize I needed in my life--a player and the mascot!
Ben is back in his hometown after getting fired from the circus. He's intrigued by the job offer to become the new mascot for the local struggling hockey team, even if he thinks the rules around the secrecy are a bit silly. Then with possibly the silliest (complimentary) meet cute ever, he meets Lukas--who happens to be the captain of said hockey team.
This was a fun low-angst hookups to lovers book. The physical chemistry is there right off the bat, since they do intend to have a one night stand...even if they're spectacularly bad at staying away from each other, or clothed. Ben and Lukas are cute together, though a little more emotional development would not have upset me as I felt like the book leans a little heavy on the physical aspect. I also liked that they did not keep secrets from each other to make for a big third act issue.
The main thing I did have a nit to pick about was the outer conflict regarding Ben's secret identity as the mascot. Early on, Ben's boss is set up to be this probably conflict, and then she just kinda...disappears? I had a similar issue with Lukas's one jerkish teammate, who was built up to be this big problem and then he really wasn't.
I was also a little confused by all the owners/owner-adjacent characters, though I am intrigued by their books now!
Overall, this is a fun, lighthearted book that had some very fun aerial stuff mixed in with the hockey!
MY OPINION: I picked up the book because I have read several books by R.M. Neil and enjoyed them. This was not a western, but who doesn’t like a good hockey romance? That being said, at the beginning, she warns you that this is a book about getting naked together, then finding a relationship within it. This book completely delivered on this promise.
There is a lot of spice. These two can not keep their hands off each other. Ben worked in the circus but got himself thrown out and landed back in his hometown. Not a lot of choices for his skill set he opens a studio and gets a job as the AHL’s hockey team mascot. When a one-night stand is too good not to repeat, he finds that he has a conflict of interest.
At the beginning of their ‘situationship,’ they already have secrets. Most of this book, however, is them getting spicy all over the place. Honestly, it’s a refreshing story. They do everything right as far as a couple, they have open communication, they jump into their feelings, they are honest with each other, it's lovely.
A wonderful falling in love with each other story that is an easy read with two really great guys who deserve to be loved. They are kind, sweet, and care about each other and their friends.
A quick read with a lot of funny moments, worth picking up for sure as a feel-good book with lots of spice.
I'm not grouchy, he sniffed I'm selective friendly Ben has returned to his home town after loosing his job with circus, crashing between his yoga studio and his BFFs. All he wants is to get enough money to get his own place. With his skills he got the job of the mascot for the Bloomburg Aspens, the local hockey team, the only this was he could not tell anyone he was the mascot. Big problem and it was a big problem when he met Lukas, an enforcer for said hockey tea. First up who am I to judge the choice of the mascot, my favourite football (soccer) team has a combi-boiler as their mascot. Yes it is true. This was such a fun sweet story with no angst between Lukas and Ben. From the moment Lukas crashed into Ben, there was sparks and my (fans myself) they were hot together, Ben using his aerobatic skills to get the result and what a mouth he had on him. I laughed at some of Ben antics usually when Lukas was on the road and I enjoyed that we got to read about Ben's routine, when he was the mascot. The descriptive scenes let me clearly imagine his routine. I enjoyed the hockey scenes not over complicated for someone who knows next to nothing even with the amount of hockey books I read. As this is a standalone you can immerse yourself in to this world and if it gets you to read the series it is tied to then it is a win
After losing a job he loves, Ben returns to his hometown to figure out what next. Staying with his best friend is temporary and opening a yoga studio has been a great way to keep his acrobatic background going. But when he gets a job offer with the local hockey team to be their mascot, well it’s pretty unexpected. They are looking for someone really bring excitement to the crowd and do something pretty new. And with Ben’s background with the circus, it’s not a bad idea. And the pay isn’t so bad either. They just have one rule: no one can know he is the mascot. There is just one problem with that. A few weeks earlier he met Lukas. The chemistry between them is explosive. They can’t keep their hands off one another and they can’t stop thinking about the other. And it looks like they are heading to a real relationship. Ben thinks he can keep the secret and he does…until he realizes that Lukas is on the hockey team. Lying is the last thing he wants to do when they are just getting started. So it looks like they’ll have to be sneaky… This was such a fun story! I loved getting to know Lukas and Ben. And the whole mascot and hockey player romance is something new and fun and fresh. I really enjoyed the story all around I wouldn’t mind seeing these two again if there are more hockey books coming!
Ben and Lukas have a unique meet cute which leads to a very steamy hookup that never really ends. They are both lovely men, meeting when each has just relocated to Bloomburg (Lukas moving to a new team and Ben returning home after a decade away). The attraction between them is sizzling but an enforced secret kept between them could unravel everything they want. Together they are fire but they're so sweet too. It's obvious where they're headed when they can't keep their hands off each other at all, but their feelings are also just as obvious too. I loved all Ben's performances as the team mascot (though that name made me feel squicky every time I read it!). The paths he and Lukas each took after that season were just right for them too. The conditions placed on Ben regarding the secrecy were a bit unusual and, to be honest, the eventual outcome of that regarding the marketing manager was just glossed over. It wasn't a big deal but it seemed odd not to let us know the outcome after the set up. The other characters introduced here from R.M.'s other series (which I had to look up) were good and now I think I might have to go and read their stories. I liked Ben's best friend, James, and would quite like his story, even if it's a quick novella because we already know he met his love the same night Ben met Lukas.
Banter? Sweetness? A whole lot of heat? Yes please—and thank you. RM Neill really delivered all of that. This book had me 🫠🤣🤭🥵 with every single page turn.
From the banter to the next-level spice, I couldn’t get enough. I was completely hooked and honestly didn’t want this book to end.
Ben is a circus performer who finds himself moving back to his hometown. His acrobatic talent is incredible—I could vividly picture every performance and couldn’t help but 🫠.
Then there’s Lukas—his confidence and bold charm absolutely stole the show, and I was so here for it 🤭. He did not disappoint in any way, shape, or form. His filthy mouth in the bedroom had me 🥵 for sure. And let’s talk about that Golden Retriever energy 😍.
This book was such a great read and I can’t wait to see what side Character’s get their own story.
Please ✔️ TRIGGER WARNINGS before jumping in. If you have none then just jump in 😉.

Independent reviewer for Neon, I was gifted my copy of this book.
There is a bit at the front of this book, and I don't usually read those notes but I'm glad I did. It sets the tone of the book beautifully!
Ben lands the job of Slappy, beaver mascot for the Bloomburg Aspens hocky team. he isn't supposed to tell anyone. But he and Lukas are already hooking up, and he doesn't want any secrets. What can go wrong??
And, my dear peeps, is the sum of the angst in this book! What will happen if anyone finds out that Lukas, of said hockey team, knows who the top secret mascot is??
It is SUPER low angst between Lukas and Ben. Super hot chemistry between them. Super sweet as they keep getting together. Super super SUPER!
I loved this book, I really did. I think that note gets you into the mind of Ms Neill when she wrote this and I feel a bit . . .I dunno . . .closer to her. . .maybe?? She is right though, the world has gone to pot. And books like this make it a little bit better, so thank you, Ms Neill!
A short review, but one that needed reigning in before it ran into 6 pages!
5 full and shiny stars, but honestly, I'd give more if I could!
This was an original take on the one night stand trope. And who could resist the first line in the blurb "A hockey player and a beaver walk into a bar....." (Writer's blurb). Well, maybe if you thought you would be reading a shifter story... Between that and the title! The title was a little bit more literal than I was thinking. I was thinking more along the lines of a benched athlete! Which could have worked as Lukas was nearing the end of his career. Ben's resume was quirky, a circus acrobat turned hockey team mascot. I agreed with him, keeping his identity secret was silly. Unless he was a superhero in RL. Lukas was just a big ole bucket of adorable. Huggable. And definitely a relationship goals type. He treated Ben so well. And their meet cute was so sweet, and yes.... cute. Low angst, high spice. Ben and Lukas certainly generated some heat. Secondary characters were more background than anything else. There are some who should get the Oprah treatment. "... and you get a story.... and you get a story." Good, fast reading, fun. Can't wait for more. I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.
This book was exactly the cosy escape I needed. It’s fun, lighthearted, low-angst and oh yes, definitely steamy.
Lukas and Ben’s meet cute had me grinning from page one. A hockey player falling for a former circus performer/aerialist turned team mascot?? The vibes are immaculate. Their chemistry is instant and delicious, and I loved that they actually communicated instead of letting misunderstandings turn into drama.
Ben is such a sassy little firecracker, going after what (or who) he wants. Lukas, meanwhile, is pure gentle giant energy, kind, sweet, and absolutely smitten from the start. Together? Perfection. They had that “we shouldn’t… but we definitely will” tension that kept me glued to the page.
This is very much a “world is burning, let’s fall in love anyway” kind of book — and I adored every minute. It’s warm, funny, charming, and the cameos from R.M. Neill’s other characters were a treat.
Also… if Ben ever launches his nap class, sign me up immediately.
If you want something that will make you laugh, swoon, and maybe fan yourself a little, Riding Pine is the move. Highly recommend!
This was a really sweet and steamy read with low angst. Ben and Lukas meet at a bar and are pretty much instantly attracted to each other and spend a hot night together. Ben has returned to his home town of Bloomberg after being fired from his job as a circus aerialist/acrobat with silks. He is working part timers a yoga instructor but is desperate for money to start his own yoga studio. He takes the job as mascot for the Bloomberg Aspens hockey team. He isn't thrilled to be dressing up as a beaver but is excited to be performing in front of people again. However, he isn't allowed to tell anyone that he is the mascot. Lukas is a new defensive player for the Bloomberg Aspens and knows that his hockey career will soon be ending. As Ben and Lukas continue meeting and sleeping together, Ben ends up telling Lukas that he is the mascot because he doesn't feel right about hiding it from Lukas. Ben and Lukas do their whole relationship backwards. They become lovers first then friends then fall in love. This was such a fun book to read with lovable MC's.
Returning to his hometown after losing his dream job as an aerialist, Ben is teaching yoga and is offered a new position as mascot of the local hockey minor league team. When Ben meets a smoking hot hockey player Lukas, they start a series of hookups and they eventually decide maybe to try for more, but Lukas isn’t supposed to know Ben is the team’s mascot.
This was a super steamy story that leads to feelings with two guys that just connect in a bunch of immediate ways. I’m glad Ben was honest with Lukas, and overall the story is low angst even with the possibility of their relationship being forbidden. I enjoyed all the interactions between Ben and Lukas, their quick attraction, their smoking chemistry, the easy slide into something more serious, and their commitment to trying for something more even though neither of them had been in a serious relationship before. A cute read with a talented mascot and the steady hockey player that knows that he wants a forever with the person he has found.
This books jumps right in with the hookup and hooks you immediately!! Ben and Lukas have sexy hookup and can't seem to stay away from each other. Their connection is instant and explosive.
Ben was an aerialist who got caught sleeping with his boss so naturally he lost his job. He's in Bloomberg trying to make ends meet while staying with his friend. He found a job teach yoga and Pilates but still gets to practice on his silks which is his true passion. He finds himself accepting a position as the mascot for the local hockey team. Unfortunately, Lukas is a hockey player on the team. There are strict rules about Ben telling anyone he is Slappy the mascot. But the chemistry between them has them not stopping what they are doing.
This was such a fun read. I loved Lukas and Ben and it was so easy to immerse yourself into this world for just a little!
I was given a free copy of this book to read and review for Neon Rainbow Reviews.
This is a one-night stand to more sports romance, featuring Ben and Lukas Pine, and is a standalone book.
Ben, a yoga instructor and the secret beaver mascot for the local NHL team, has one rule: no one can know his identity, especially the players. But after a one-night stand with Lukas turns into something more, keeping the secret hidden becomes an hilarious, rule-breaking challenge.
This is a fun, low-angst romance filled with heat, humour, and mascot chaos. Ben and Lukas are sweet, sexy, and impossible not to root for, making this a light, feel-good read from start to finish. And now I have a tonne of books added to my TBR as I need to read more of the side characters.
Things to expect in this book are: Standalone book MM sports romance Hockey player x mascot Secret identity Size difference Himbo x Flustered Dimples & tattoos MC in lingerie One night stand to more Can’t stay away Secret relationship Spicy times & dirty talk Acrobatic kink Kink exploration Video s*x Secrets revealed HEA
I was really looking forward to a new hockey romance from one of my always read authors. And this didn’t disappoint. It’s a very low angst read which was perfect for me at the moment. The two MCs hit it off very early and keep their wonderful energy throughout the book.
I’ve read plenty of hockey romances before but don’t think I have read one with a mascot before and what a fun spin on the trope. Ben is coming off a disastrous experience that cost him his job as an aerial acrobatics performer. He’s come to his hometown to get his bearings, reflect on life a little and figure out next steps. It’s purely by chance that he runs into Lukas at a club while there with his friends. The sparks fly from here.
It might be low angst but it’s high spice for these two easy going characters. I was definitely in need of a read where I could sit back and enjoy the read and that’s what this book did for me. I love how the author does cameos and I won’t spoil anything but if you’ve read earlier works, you’re in for a treat! Hope there is more of this series!
This is my first time reading R.M.’s work and I’m pleasantly surprised. It was very low angst but very high heat.
Lukas and Ben met at a bar when Lukas literally fell into Ben’s feet after a failed hand stand attempt. From that moment on, Lukas became infatuated with Ben.
The problem? Ben was hired as Lukas’ team mascot. Something none of them was aware of. But that didn’t stop them from pursuing a relationship.
Ben had to return home after a sticky situation in his previous employment and needed new a job. Being a mascot wasn’t exactly what he had in mind but he excelled at it.
Despite knowing what would happen if they were found out, Ben and Lukas never considered not being together. Lukas was everything Ben ever wanted in a man and he would not let him go.
Lukas was willing to risk his own career as long as he had Ben. He knew that having Ben by his side was worth it.
I really enjoyed their chemistry. Not only were they really hot together but they really supported each other. Lukas was really proud of Ben and wasn’t afraid to show him.
