My goal is to keep my head down and finish my degree with minimal distractions; it’s the only thing I have. But then he walks into the lecture hall and flips my world upside down. He’s eighteen years older, my professor, and I’ve never felt attraction like this before. Grant is everything I know I shouldn’t want, but the more I’m put in his proximity, the more I want to give in to the feeling. We're walking a dangerous line, a forbidden push and pull that I can’t help but want more of. Until he gives it to me. Until we break every single rule.
GRANT I shouldn’t have done it, but the damage is done.
The temptation with the honey-blonde hair and relentless blue eyes that lure me into madness. She’s my student, but I want her. She’s too young for me, but I can’t deny how much I long for her. Fully. Wholly. Without the consequences hanging over our heads. But we have too much going against us. It could never work.
Leighton breaks me wide open, unlocks all the desires deep inside that I thought were long gone. She’s my reason and my damnation. I can’t stay away from her, no matter how hard I try. So, I’ll keep living on borrowed time until there’s nothing left. Because I want her, even if we end up burning the line.
Burning the Line is a spicy, forbidden age gap romance with forced proximity and a woman obsessed MMC.

𐙚⋆°。⋆♡ ── pre-read okay so i'm very intrigued based off the tropes and just looking for a fast paced filler!! thank u sm to the author for sending me an arc <3
I think this is a great starter forbidden romance for those looking to dip their toes into the water. I read a lot of forbidden romance, especially of the professor x student variety, and I think this would be great for someone who wants the book to focus on the relationship of the couple and not so much on the actual forbidden nature (i.e., the dean finding out, sneaking around, etc.). While there was some of that, it was definitely not the focal point of the story, which I think some people would enjoy if they want to get straight to the action (no pun intended 😉)
Speaking of action, the spice is where this book really shined. The mouth on Grant was to die for, and I loved how many instances of intimate times we got. I could feel his obsession with her, and her with him, which just served to heighten the overall intimate experience.
I’m interested to see who gets a book next, since the series is The Pleasant Lake Series, which is where Leighton is from. Her brother is a single dad, so perhaps he is next? However, I would love to see a Ryder book at some point because I kinda feel like he is going to be a big goofball with a dirty mouth.
I do think the insta-lust was never really founded nor was their initial connection fully explored. I didn’t know what these two saw in each other because there weren’t enough instances to really solidify their infatuation with one another in my opinion. I also thought there were some really unrealistic things that took place (drinking every night when she has this much going on in her life, standing up the owner of the place she’s doing an internship telling him to “shut up”, etc.). There were a couple things, especially for the first 20% or so of the book that were a little tough for me to find believable which I think hampered my fully enjoyment of the book.
Thank you to Untold Stories PR and Carmelina Mercurio for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.
Firstly, I want to state that my opinions are solely my own, based on my own personal preferences, and will not necessarily reflect your own opinions of a book. I encourage everyone to try anything once if it piques your interest. With that being said, let’s dive into my thoughts.
To start, I am very grateful for the opportunity to have an ARC. I was very excited about the premise of this book because it had all the tropes I usually adore and devour in record speed. However, that was about all it had going for it in my opinion.
The writing style felt childish and repetitive and the characters felt one-dimensional. From the jump we get an insta-lust that isn’t really founded in anything or ever explored. We get times of thinking they’ll dive deeper into their character, backstory, or development and it falls right back into the one dimensional space of bodily “communication”. Both of their inner monologues (F21, M39) felt as if they were coming from a hormone-crazed teenage girl and instead of feeling like a spicy book with plot it rather felt like I was reading erotica written from someone who just discovered what s*x is all about. I was often left confused because their actions didn’t reflect their thoughts or vice versa (this is a multi-POV book, the reader is supposed to be “in-the-know” on their actual thoughts!), and it often left me with no actual substance to hold onto. Additionally, their interactions were often unrealistic at times and counterproductive or contradicting to things they had already said or established. And this went on for the good majority of the book which made it incredibly hard to get through and really hindered my enjoyment of it.
I know a lot of people really enjoyed this book, and I also know I’m pretty picky when it comes to story structure, character development, and overall writing style — so I’d recommend on giving it a try but only if you are looking for or enjoy easy-to-read, angsty, lust/s*x -driven stories. I wish I knew more of what to expect going in, because personally I love a good, developed plot and this just didn’t have it for me.
Burning the line is a Forbidden romance, with age gap, and professor and student tropes.
I absolutely loved the fact that Leighton was a girl who knew what she wanted. She wasn't the meak shy and timid Puritan that gets introduced into forbidden debauchery by her much older professor. No, she sees what she likes and knows what she wants, and it's him! And boy, does she go for him, Grant.
The characters go so well together. There is a perfect balance of golden retriever type behaviour from the MMC he's sweet and caring but has the filthiest mouth behind closed doors.
Perfect page turner of a book.
***Thank you to Carmelina Mercurio for the ARC, I'm grateful for the opportunity to be among the first people to read Burning the line. The above review is my honest opinion and has not been influenced in any way.
This book was a romance about a student and professor. It was over 400 pages, of straight smut. The plot was highly lacking, the characters were shallow until 80% of the way through the book when you finally get their back stories. I also found it completely unrealistic. I understand this is a fiction novel, but the fact that Grant took Leighton to the hospital, couldn’t fill out any of her information, and it was in the town where they went to school, but yet no one noticed them or asked questions; completely unrealistic. Also; the fact that he kept calling her Cherry and literally refused to use her real name the whole book was gross. Her appendix literally ruptured and she’s going into surgery and you’re still calling her Cherry? Be for real. This was not the book for me, I should have DNFd it but I received it as an ARC so felt obligated to finish it. If you’re looking for a hot and heavy read, you would probably like this. But if you like plot, or sustenance in your book. This novel is severely lacking in both.
Sickeningly sweet. Heartwarming. Disgustingly passionate in all the best ways.
What's not to love about this novel? I was completely drawn into this steamy romance and hooked from the very beginning! The way the narrative transforms with the characters is beyond amazing and you are encapsulated with the characters and feelings on the page. It's entirely immersive with its relatable elements about life, loss, love, believing in yourself and taking chances even if they seem wrong. It's crafted beautifully to challenge its readers to take life by the horns and chase after happiness, after what could be, should be. Leighton is fierce and despite her own inner turmoil and hidden pain, she loves just as ferociously as she protects. Shes forgotten how to love herself and runs from the idea of her pain being a burden to those around her leaving to isolate herself. Grant is the shining example of breaking the expectations of those closest to us, to break the chain and find our own happiness - to be our own driving force to find our comfort within ourselves and our own dreams even if they aren't understood. I cannot translate into words how much this romance made me feel alive and swoon so much I swear my heart swelled with each page. It's an empowering story on chasing your dreams and realizing that the people in your life that show up for you, fight for you, love you - are more important than any amount of money, title, or position. That the right people or person will come into your life and stay for just YOU because you are someone's happily ever after, someone's reason to smile, to feel again.
Burning The Line (The Pleasant Lake Series #1) by Carmelina Mercurio ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Dual POV * Age Gap * Professor x Student * Forbidden Romance * Canadian FMC * Texan MMC * College Romance * Kink Positive * Small Town x Big City * 405 pages
I was so excited when the ARC call landed on my feed. I’m an absolute sucker for the professor x student trope and even more so when there’s a solid age gap. And this one promised both. I was also equally excited to see the author is Canadian, because I always love supporting my own. (Even though the book itself is set mainly in Texas!)
What I did not expect was for our FMC Leighton to be a full-on brat! And I adored her for it. She may be the younger one, but she had such a fun, confident, chaotic sparkle that made her an instant fave. I know we all make book boyfriend lists (mine has a suspicious number of professors), but this time? Leighton is absolutely joining my book girlfriend list.
There were a few moments where the pacing felt a bit slower than needed, with some scenes feeling more episodic to lead into a spicy moment instead of emotionally building the relationship. And since there is already plenty of spice I definitely wanted a bit more non sexual tension. But I still tore through this book fast.
I was rooting for them the whole time. And the no 3rd-act breakup? Thank you! Much appreciated not having to deal with that. He also gives Leighton the nickname Cherry based on her chapstick flavour, and while I think it was used a little too often, it was still such a fun and unique nickname I hadn’t seen before.
It looks like this will be the first of a planned interconnected series, and I’m already eager for the next one!
When I saw Carmelina looking for ARC readers on Threads, I knew I needed to read this book. I'm a sucker for big age gaps. Give me 15+ years and you have me 😎 I didn't need to see more, but professor x student / forbidden love... Hell yeah 🤩 So here I am now, writing this review 😁
I'm definitely not disappointed about Grant. I mean, he really is something... An English literature professor with a lot of tattoos, plays guitar, worked at construction, is 6'5" tall, and has a very dirty mouth 🥵 I mean, who wouldn't fall for him? Leighton does instantly 😉 Sometimes she comes around like a brat, because she wants him, and what she wants, she has to get. But who wouldn't be the same when you find the man you just know is IT? And it's not as Grant didn't want her, too. On the contrary, because he falls even faster than her 🤣 The chemistry between them is perfect 🔥 I think that's one of the reasons why they often are so reckless 🙈
Honestly, I'm always a bit jealous when I read professor x student books. When I just think about my teacher back at school 😖 OK, maybe I should have gone to university, but I think the professors there weren't any better. All just OLD, and I'm not talking 39 years old old, but almost retirement old 🙈
I think I can guess who book 2 will be about, and I already know, it's a done deal for me already 😁
Thanks to the author and @untoldstoriespr for trusting me with an ARC 🩷
Burning the Line Author: Carmelina Mercurio ARC Review: 4.25 ⭐/5 Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

ARC Review:
If you add a forbidden fruit, a whole lot of burning temptation and simmer it on a slow flame of chemistry you'll get the perfect recipe for Burning the Line.
Leighton Wilford is a last year English lit student who wants nothing more than to land a paid internship and graduate from University without any kind of drama. Her plans for graduating with an uneventful year goes down the drain the moment she sees who her new Professor is.
Grant Barrett is a 39 year old English literature professor, always an epitome of professionalism and focused on his rewarding job. To him nothing is more important than his being a college professor and sharing his love for literature by teaching. So when he laid his eyes on one of his young students, he starts to question whether it's all he wants from his life?
Burning the Line is basically about blurring the lines of professionalism between the professor and the student who can't get each other out of their heads from the moment they seem to be captivated by each other. The author does a great job in building tension between the two with continuous pull and push of dilemma between wanting what they want and doing what's right. Another thing I adored about the characters is their growth, the connection and the healing journey. I was so happy when I realised the significance of butterflies on the cover!
Oh, and please check the trigger warnings because this book also explores the topics of parental grief and loss.
So if you love a book which is a perfect combination of slow burn romance, forbidden temptations and the "fuck it" moment, this is for you!
Don't forget to save the date of 22 November on your calendars. 📆
First off I would like to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to be an ARC reader for Burning the Line. That being said, I loved this book. Leighton & Grant had amazing chemistry right off the bat. The push & pull in the beginning of their story, the “is this right, should we be doing this” to the “ I don’t care what happens it’s you”. I really enjoyed seeing both of their emotional growth and how they both needed to learn how to be vulnerable with each other. Leighton realizing that her being ‘strong’ was just causing more damage to herself and her relationship with her family and making the necessary changes to better those relationships was so touching to read. Jolene asking Leighton if she was going back to Texas and the rest of that conversation had me in literal tears. My only quam with this story was the amount of red herring moments setting up Jeremey ‘finding them out’ and how that felt lackluster. Jeremey’s character overall was almost irrelevant to the story in my opinion. Especially since once he told them he knew, Grant was just like okay let me make things right. I know it was integral to make some of the moves needed to give us our HEA, but I think they would've made a similar move anyway.
I was so fortunate to be chosen for an ARC of this book and let me tell you - this is a 4.5 star book! I literally could not put this book down (insert gif of Sarah Paulson reading in the dark) 1) leighton is funny and messy and real 2) grant????? Omgggggg
Honestly, aside from the spice, this book made me feel things. Some of leightons fears at 21 are the same fears I face at 30. This meant so much to me to read.
Definitely heed the trigger warnings - mentions of sexual assault, death of a parent, abuse
I got to be an ARC for this book and I’m so honored!! The first thing I noted is how descriptive the author is. Both Leighton and Grant are clear in my head thanks to that! Their dynamic takes a while to get past the “will they - won’t they” and I wish that part had been shorter. It dragged on in a few sections but once it got to The Part where Grant and Leighton begin their tumultuous relationship, it grips you in the best way. So I would say it’s worth the wait! You see a few different types of kink explored and I enjoyed that because it gave the ✨spice✨variety. As their relationship progresses, you see it grow deeper roots through difficult times and it’s so sweet seeing Grant show up for Leighton in moments where she needs comfort and help the most. Both characters support and encourage each other to find strength in moving forward in different places in their lives. I would say the thing I liked most is when the characters grow themselves and together. It made the story much more enjoyable. At one point, the FMC is assaulted at a party and then in her own home. The scene is brief and I believe it was handled well by all the writer. With all that said: it was a beautifully written story with so much depth and excitement. I look forward to the next book in the series from this author!!!

DNF- sadly I couldn’t get into this book. The writing was lacking something for me and I couldn’t connect with the characters. This read more like an erotica with some plot thrown in.
I’m grateful for the chance to ARC read this one but it wasn’t for me, unfortunately.
Leighton and Grant had me blushing through this entire book. I absolutely fell in love with them, their chemistry was instant, effortless, and the way they fit together felt like two perfect puzzle pieces snapping into place. I love how Leighton knew exactly what she wanted from the beginning, and how they pulled the best out of each other in every scene. This story gave me all the feels, and I devoured every second of their connection.
Spice: 3/5 Tropes: Age Gap (21/39), Student x Professor, Loss/Grief, College Setting, Canadian FMC
First off, I want to say thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC and I am sorry I shit the bed and was behind! As soon as I saw the tropes for this one I knew I needed to apply; any age gap over 7 years and I am in! This was an instant attraction but focused a lot on the characters and their individual journeys which I appreciated, I think I would have loved more of a slow burn with more tension between the two MC's but they were so so sweet and wholesome together.
Moving to Texas for school after her fathers death, Leighton is instantly enthralled with her English Lit professor Grant which seems to be a mutual attraction. After trying to stay away from each other, the forced proximity with her internship does not help with the growing feelings they both have.
This was a very beautiful story about healing and grief and shows exactly what a non-toxic relationship should look like. There were so many things in Grant that drove me wild, he was so caring and genuine towards Leighton but omg the mouth on him! This is the first novel in an interwoven series and I'm excited to read the rest!!
I think I had different expectation for this story. I thought there would be more struggles given the trope, but sometimes I even forgot there was a student/professor dynamic. Everything went too smoothly for my taste.
That being said: If you love a sweet romance with a FMC-obsessed MMC, this is your book! I really liked the writing.
(Received this as an ARC read) I really enjoyed the journey of Leighton ans Grant! This is an age gap, student/professor slow burn romance. I dont really like a slow burn so it took me a while to read the first half but after that I was hooked! I loved the communication between the characters instead of them making decisions for each other about being together. Both characters have some past issues they are working through. Overall, excellent read, well written, great dialog and spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶
wow. wow. wow. yall are not ready 😮💨 ____________________

Pros ☆ "Fuck it" moments ☆ "Who did this to you" ☆ Touch Her and Die ☆ No OWD, cheating, third act breakup, or miscommunication trope ☆ Angst and taboo relationship
Grant is a true Renaissance man. Educated, emotionally mature, plays guitar, sings, plant Daddy, worked in construction...
Plus he's a giver who's dominant in bed and his whole world revolves around Leighton.
Leighton, as an FMC, is a pretty typical, hardworking college student. She stays up all night working on homework, attends classes, works, and parties during any down time she happens to have. She often chases her education at the expense of her physical and emotional wellbeing.
She is pretty mature for her age at times, but it does make sense in my opinion. She's had bad experiences and that can make you grow up fast sometimes.
I liked that they had some common experiences and the interactions they had with each other's families.
Cons ◇ Continuity errors ◇ Repetitive emotional beats ◇ Slow pacing sometimes ◇ Lack of external conflict ◇ Character behaviors changing or not staying true to their motivations / previous actions ◇ External conflict that did occur was later in the story was resolved really quickly - it could have been moved up and dragged out to make it more interesting ◇ Lack of tension related to the taboo relationship. This was especially disappointing as it could have caused more issues and also added tension/angst if there was more risk related to their relationship. ◇ Grant is a little confusing sometimes in the beginning. I understand that he's supposed to be fighting his feelings, but honestly, (and I hate to say this) it's poorly written and makes it seem like that part of the angst was just skimmed over and not well thought through. Similar to the point above, it could have added a lot more tension and made the relationship feel more earned.
《Overall》 This was actually kind of a cozy read. The relationship was sweet and they were really good for each other.
The writing wasn't bad, persay, and the premise was really promising, but it may have benefited from more editing. There were some errors, underdeveloped plot points, and the characters didn't seem to "find themselves" until halfway through the book.
This is a newer author, so I think a lot of this is to be expected and may improve as they progress in their career 💕
What to expect: - student/prof - age gap (18 yrs) - insta-lust - Canadian FMC/ Texan MMC
I had a fun time with this one — but I also have thoughts (loving ones, but thoughts nonetheless).
First, the positives: I loved that Leighton wasn’t your typical timid forbidden-romance heroine. She knows what she wants, she’s confident, chaotic, fun, BRATTY in the best way — and honestly? I loved her so much more for it. And Grant’s mix of sweet, steady energy + absolutely filthy mouth behind closed doors?? A combo that does things to a person. The spice in this book is definitely its strongest element — there’s heat, tension, and an obsession between them that’s easy to get swept up in.
BUT.
There were a few things that held it back for me:
📌 The pacing felt off. It almost would’ve benefited from a clear Part 1 → Part 2 shift. The first half moved quickly, the last 20% was FULL of plot, and the middle kind of floated between spicy scenes without deepening their emotional connection the way I wanted.
📌 Grant’s early push/pull didn’t feel “39-year-old professor.” Some of his internal conflict and back-and-forth read younger, which made the age gap feel less grounded at first.
📌 The Jeremy situation. I knew he was a dirty bag from the get go and I have no nice things to say. The one thing that bothered me about this storyline is that it felt strange that Leighton wouldn’t tell Grant what happened — especially when she had bruises. It made the ending feel rushed in a way that didn’t match the emotional stakes.
That said — this is a great starter forbidden romance if someone wants: 💫 spice-forward 💫 easy to read 💫 low angst 💫 not much sneaking around or academic fallout
I liked Grant and Leighton together, I rooted for them, and I’m definitely curious to see where the series goes next (Ryder… Ben.... Kat.... I see you 👀). The potential is there, and I’d happily read what’s coming.
I just want to preface this by saying that I while I got this as an ARC, all opinions in this review is entirely my own. K? Okay.
Sooooo... I finished this in less than 2 days and it got me thinking, where’s book two and how fast can I get it? Leighton and Grant 's story me in the best way. 😭
Leighton is a force — confident, relentless, and fully aware of the effect she has. She walks into that classroom, sees her professor, and decides immediately that she wants him. Grant sees her and completely loses his footing. That’s it. Game over. And watching him try and fail to stay on the right side of the line? Addictive. The man is six-five, covered in tattoos, plays guitar, has a background in construction, and teaches fuckin' English lit. Also? The mouth on him could end a drought. He talks like he knows exactly what he’s doing and exactly what she needs.
The tension is fast, but the payoff is worth it, and the balance between heat and the actual story is tasteful. There’s no unnecessary drama, no dragged-out breakup, no filler conflict for the sake of it. Just two people thrown into a situation they can’t back away from, saying screw it and taking the risk. Chapters 13 and 25? Permanently bookmarked and to think those aren't even the spiciest parts! That “fuck it” moment had me yelling in the middle of the night 😂
It’s hard not to love how much they both go in. Leighton refuses to play it cool and Grant spirals immediately, but in a way that works. It’s full-on emotional whiplash and constant heat but somehow still feels believable because of how openly they own it. They want each other, they go after it, and the story lets them have that without pulling the usual tricks. The praise kink? Absolutely handled. The dirty talk? He understood the assignment. The way they show up for each other in more serious ways also gave it real weight without dragging the mood.
It’s spicy, messy, fast, and fun, and now I need book two. K. Thanks.
ARC read, thank you to the author for the opportunity!
To preface, I am still figuring out my review style so if my thoughts seem a little jumbled my apologies.
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I think this book will be enjoyable for a lot of people. With that being said, I don’t think this book was entirely for me. I definitely enjoyed some parts, but there were also some issues that took me out of the story at times.
One area I really enjoyed was the spice, the spice was very well written. I enjoyed the tension between the characters. the subtle exploration of needs and kinks was also done well. I liked the role reversal between the characters. There would be times where he was in charge and she would be whimpering, but other times she would be in charge and he would be whimpering.
I think my main issue is the pacing and background details. The pacing for about the first 160 pages i felt was really well done. after that, it seemed like we hit the gas pretty quickly and it made it harder for me to connect with the characters. Those first 160 pages were spent with both MC’s battling their feelings for each other and knowing they shouldn’t give in because it would cause issues. then they gave in and… it just seemed like all of a sudden they “developed” a strong connection without us actually seeing that development. we heard about their feelings for each other but we never actually saw how they developed or why the mc’s like each other.
I also don’t like how once they gave in and started seeing each other, all the details and places that were mentioned in the beginning were just, mentioned in passing after that. we never got another scene to see what it was like for her to be in his class after they started seeing each other, we didn’t talk much about her coffee shop schedule, her friends were barely mentioned except for the Jeremy side plot towards the end. We also didn’t get to experience too many little moments with both characters, them just hanging out at home and having a conversation. We saw them be vulnerable a few times but we never got just them getting to know each other without it devolving into sex.
Maybe this is because I’m reading more critically so I can give a better review, but this timeline and transitions were a bit confusing/frustrating to me. Because of the lack of details like class and coffee shop schedule, i never really understood where we were in the year/ how many weeks into the relationship. I got a glimpse when the internship ended, and there was also Christmas break. The transitions in some scenes also seemed very, fast? We would be in one place in the middle of a scene then it would suddenly end and we’re in a different scene with no idea how long has passed usually. It wasn’t the greatest to read but it wasn’t horrible.
Overall, I think i’d recommend this book to a lot of people.
"Burning the Line" brings a different approach to the student/teacher trope, and I ATE THAT UP!!!
First of all, Leighton was such a bold, sassy FMC. I loved her so, so, so much! She set her eyes on the prize and never hesitated to make Grant all hot and bothered with her words and actions.
And Grant, OMG, GRANT, THE MAN YOU ARE!!! He was down bad from chapter 1, one look and he knew Leighton was his finish line. I loved how he was always there for her, caring and never making her feel uncomfortable. They both had their own issues to deal with but managed to work through them together.
The only thing that bothered me a little was the fact that I wished for them to fight the attraction a little longer. That's why it's not a full 5⭐️. Nevertheless, their bond is definitely so strong that nothing can tear them apart. I enjoyed their banter, as well as the emotional conversations that were really important to the plot. Also, I need to say, this book was SPICY.🔥
Leighton and Grant are definitely soulmates and a great introduction to the series. One thing that made me love this book so much was the fact that these characters felt so real—their dialogue, their fears, their goals. This book made me contemplate some things in my life.
If you love a messy, forbidden, heartbreaking, and spicy story, then "Burning the Line" should be your next read. I will definitely reread this one to prepare for the next one in the series.
💙MY FAVORITE QUOTE 💙
“What do you feel when you look at me, Grant?” I ask. His eyes open, and the intensity snatches my breath away. “Everything I shouldn’t want. Everything I crave. Everything, Leighton. I look at you and I feel. Every. Fucking. Thing.”
(Thank you, Carmelina Mercurio, for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.)
Burning the Line is a story that doesn’t just flirt with the forbidden, it dives headfirst into it. Leighton, carrying the weight of past trauma and grief, walks into Grant’s classroom, and from that moment the air between them is charged. He’s her professor, older, bound by rules and ethics, and yet every interaction feels like a spark against dry tinder.
“He’s nineteen years older, my professor, and I’ve never felt attraction like this before. Grant is everything I know I shouldn’t want, but the more I’m put in his proximity, the more I want to give in to the feeling.”
What makes this book so compelling is that the age gap isn’t the only barrier. Both Leighton and Grant are scarred by loss, and their grief shapes the way they see themselves and each other. The forbidden attraction becomes more than desire—it’s a lifeline, a dangerous solace they can’t resist. Grant tries to fight it, to hold the line, but Mercurio captures the slow unraveling of his restraint with aching precision.
“I shouldn’t have done it, but the damage is done. The temptation with the honey-blonde hair and relentless blue eyes that lure me into madness.”
Leighton’s defiance and vulnerability crash against Grant’s discipline and guilt, creating a push-pull that feels combustible and tender all at once. Every stolen glance, every near-touch carries the weight of their shared pain, making the eventual surrender feel inevitable and devastatingly beautiful.
“We’re walking a dangerous line, a forbidden push and pull that I can’t help but want more of. Until he gives it to me. Until we break every single rule.”
This isn’t just a romance, it’s about two broken people finding something worth risking everything for. If you crave stories where grief and longing collide, where the forbidden becomes the only thing that feels alive, Burning the Line will leave you breathless.
A huge thank you to Carmelina Mercurio & Untold Stories PR for the early copy!
First and foremost, I really loved this book. I found it to be quite relatable in terms of how a relationships can change you. Also I highly appreciate how the characters communicated and there wasnt any petty misunderstandings and a dramatic third act break up. From the beginning, Leigh and Grant just clicked like there was an instant deep connection with the two but of course fate and the universe is twisted making their situation awkward.
The yearning they had for each other was intense and almost reminded me of Anthony Bridgerton plus he the way this man salivated for Leigh was chefs kiss. Both characters are fully aware whats at stake but I applaud Leigh for being strong in that aspect because the amount of hot and cold this professor was giving, it gave me whiplash but realistically speaking his anxiety about the situation is understandable.
Chapters 13 and 25 did me and the iconic "Fuck it" moment! Their relationship is so cute that it had me squealing and giggling to the point my husband thought I was possessed or some kind.
Moving on, the praise kink had me in a choke hold. The mouth on BOTH of them but especially Grant got me all flustered. The dirty talk was again chefs kiss. More importantly though I believe that Leigh and Grant are amazing together and they both helped each other heal from whats happened in their lives. GREEN FLAGS EVERYWHERE!
Leighton is also iconic because she will fight for her man! And Grant will fight for his girl... literally. Overall, their story is worth a read. It was lovely, relatable and easy to read. 09/10✨️ and I'd give it 4/5 stars for spice 🌶
Well, give me a professor/student forbidden romance + age gap and I am SOLD. This book completely hooked me from the first page and it’s sweet, emotional, spicy, and honestly just hits all the right spots for a forbidden age gap romance.
Leighton is such a strong and relatable character. She’s dealing with a lot, but she still loves hard and goes after what she wants without apologizing for it. She struggles with believing she’s too much and watching her slowly open up and fight for her own happiness was one of my favorite parts.
And Grant… wow. He’s older, closed off, and carrying his own pain, but he’s also so caring and protective in a way that feels real, not overdone. He’s basically the definition of not wanting to want something but absolutely does, and the way he melts for Leighton is perfect.
Their chemistry is unreal! It’s fun, messy, emotional, and so, so intense. The push and pull, the tension, the vulnerability… it just works. And even though the romance is spicy (like, really spicy), the emotional side hits just as hard.
What I loved most is how the story balances love, loss, healing, and believing in yourself. It really makes you think about choosing happiness, taking chances, and keeping the right people close, the ones who show up, fight for you, and love you for who you are.
It’s full of heart, addictive, and honestly made me feel alive while reading it. Such a great forbidden romance that brings the spice and the feels. I’d recommend it in a heartbeat!

Where to begin! Grant and Leighton’s story pulled me in so fast I don't think I blinked the whole time!
You can’t help who you fall for or the circumstances surrounding when you call for them and that's exactly the scenario Grant and Leighton find themselves in. With their student/teacher dynamic their forbidden romance turns quickly into a beautiful love story of finding your person right when you need them. That person who helps you out of the darkness of grief and hurt and sees every part of you. Broken and whole and loves you anyway.
The tension between Grant and Leighton was absolutely delicious. And I could feel their chemistry through the pages. Wondering if they were gonna get caught had me on the edge of my seat through the whole book. And the way Grant loves Leighton had me wanting to jump into the book and steal him for myself.
I loved the writing in this book. It was so easy to read and follow and it was easy to get lost in it and root for such a forbidden and taboo relationship. (Which are the best in my opinion)
I am looking forward to more from this author and I praying we get a books about Leighton’s brother Ben and Grant’s brother Ryder! I need me so more of those men and I feel like their stories will ruin me just as much has Grant and Leighton’s did. In the best way of course! And of course I would love to see more of Grant and Leighton.

Spicy age gap forbidden romance between a professor and his student??? Don’t gotta tell me twice!
Leighton is just trying to finish up her degree and figure out what she wants to do with her life, the last thing she needs is a distraction. So when her new English prof walks in looking like an absolute snack, she’s doomed. She can’t stop thinking about him and turns out he can’t stop thinking about her. Will they give into their urges or will the threat of being found out be too much?
This book had all the premises to be an absolute banger. Forbidden romance and age gap are two of my absolute favourite tropes so I definitely had some high hopes. Unfortunately this just fell flat for me. I felt the characters were very one dimensional and a little boring. While the spice definitely helped bring some oomph to the story, I really didn’t get the forbidden vibes. It didn’t seem like there were that many high stake moments that usually make these forbidden romances so intense. I also really struggled with the tension or lack thereof. It felt like they just decided they were attracted to each other and that was it. No true explanation or build up. Maybe my expectations were just too high or maybe this just wasn’t the book for me in terms of what I was looking for. However, if you’re looking to just dip your toes into the forbidden romance genre I feel like this could be a good option.
