Book Review – Vesper Vesper is an imaginative tale that sweeps readers into a richly woven world where courage is measured not by size, but by spirit. Our unlikely heroine, Vesper, is a rabbit with determination, yet her quest to save her community from the menacing Malbrut will test every ounce of her bravery. From the first page, the story captivates with its lush descriptions of mysterious landscapes and the vivid cast of characters Vesper encounters. Each stop on her journey presents a unique challenge, and with every conquered task she earns a new piece of a fabled suit of armor—both literal and symbolic. The armor becomes more than protection; it is a testament to her growth, resilience, and unwavering purpose. Author Sara Causey skillfully balances moments of triumph with tender scenes of loss, showing that even the bravest heroes must grapple with grief. Themes of teamwork and friendship are woven seamlessly into the narrative, as Vesper learns that true strength lies in unity. Her companions—quirky, loyal, and occasionally exasperating—bring humor and warmth, making the stakes of the showdown with Malbrut all the more urgent and emotional. Vesper is more than just an adventurous quest—it’s a meditation on perseverance, trust, and the bittersweet reality of growing up. Young Adult readers will be enthralled by its action and heart, while adults will find layers of meaning in its gentle wisdom. This is a story that lingers long after the last page, leaving the reader wanting more adventures from Vesper.
I enjoyed Vesper. I read YA books occasionally (the Twilight series, Hunger Games, etc.) and I found this to be a wonderful book. It's well-written and clever without resorting to graphic violence or sexual content. I would easily recommend this for my niece who's 12 without hesitation or worrying what she'd be exposed to.
Vesper is a young rabbit who lives a quieter life. But when the good ruler, Hakan, is killed, her home falls into chaos. From there, she must dig deep to become all she's capable of. Along the way, she faces various challenges and realizes that she's not without resources - or friends.
I enjoyed Vesper very much. I enjoy the vivid descriptions and the beauty, even in a challenging story. Though the content is geared toward older readers (teen), it is clean with no sexual content. There is violence but it is used to show how evil the bad guys are. I loved the Green Ember, and this felt similar, even though the story was completely unique. This would be an excellent choice for those looking for more stories like Green Ember.
