The Devil Likes It Here

Rate this book
When Theo died, he found he'd accidentally sold his soul during a drunken night out and now he owes the Devil a favor. The job? Haunt a house until it's empty. Simple enough, except Theo's not exactly demon material. With only an absent coach for guidance, he fumbles through the job - especially since he starts to like the new homeowners. Turns out, even a friendly ghost is still a demon with a deadline.

Mateo and Lily are trying to build a future. After a big career change, they've moved into Lily's quiet hometown, hoping to settle down. But the house has other plans. Lights flicker. Doors open. The coffee machine turns on by itself. And Lily's the only one who notices - or believes anything's wrong. Because how can you feel safe, let alone happy, when your home doesn't feel like your own?

3.5 ⭐️. What a strange book! A couple buy a house haunted by the Demon Theo, sent from hell to haunt this house with the aim of keeping it unoccupied.

The couple, Mateo and Lily, soon realise that there is a problem in the house that might not be fixable with some DIY.

I did enjoy this novella. The ending wasn't what I expected, but that didn't distract from the story.

The overuse of the exclamation mark in the novella did. It kept me thinking that everyone was shocked, excited, or simply very happy, ALL the time. This could just be because this is the ARC, but I found it a little annoying.

I received an advance review copy for free from booksirens.com, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Theo is dead and it turns out he sold his soul to the devil one night while drunk and now he needs to haunt a house and empty it of its occupants.

I really enjoyed this book. It was an interesting twist on a haunted house story. It was a quick read and could have had more in it but it was still very good.
