The book explains why occasional oops events can be helpful in the long run. A space example includes the first Vanguard attempted launch which ended up with a boom. Not as big a book as Space X has been having but a boom nevertheless. It also discusses a polio anti-virus that killed, biotech blunders, chemical calamities, how bad software can cause death and how greedy companies can end up causing, indirectly, some very bad things to happen.

Science isn't perfect but it does try to improve over time.
