One disastrous season. One last chance. One forbidden woman who could cost me everything.

After getting picked up in the expansion draft, I'm determined to prove I'm not the screw-up everyone thinks I am. New team, new city, fresh start—I've got it all mapped out.

What I didn't plan on was Jayne, the sweet librarian who sees past my reputation and makes me want to be the man she deserves. But when I discover her father is my new coach, everything changes.

Now I'm caught between the career I'm fighting to save and the woman I can't live without. One wrong move and I'll lose them both—because coach made it crystal clear: his daughter is completely off-limits.

This is the first in a new series, and this is Jayne and Bodi’s story.
Jayne is a quiet, sassy, librarian, who has a controlling father, and is feeling isolated after moving to Atlanta with her family. Bodi is a hockey player, who needs to redeem himself, and trying to save his career he moves for a fresh start, new team, and clean slate. There is an instant attraction between Jayne and Bodi when they cross paths, and then he finds out she is his new coaches, off limits daughter, but the heart knows what it wants.
This is a well written easy to read story, with family dynamics, friendships, emotions, tension, secrets, lies, betrayal, drama, reverse grumpy / sunshine, forbidden romance, heartbreak, redemption, challenges, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, hockey romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This one was interesting, from the multiple meet cutes at the start to the tension around the new team and what was eventually found out, there was a lot going on. Bodi and Jayne were good together and I was glad that they took a chance and went for things. Just as interesting was how the guys at the house banded together and how that then burbled out to the team. I liked seeing West sort of whip them all into more, much better than what was going on with them. It was nice to see how things ended, for Bodi and Jayne together and happy and the tension with the team now gone.

Bodhi meets Jayne and they hit it off right away. Then they find out that he is on her dad’s hockey team. Jayne dated a hockey player who cheated on her and since that incident hockey players have been off k it’s. They try to stay away from each other but it doesn’t work! Her dad’s wife Lourdes and Jayne do not get along. However, she has a sister Lindy who is young and Jayne does all she can to be with Lindy. Things get interesting when past secrets come out and money issues arise!

Bodi Michener and Jayne Morrison (23) have a unique meeting at the (DMV) or as they call it DDS. But because the computer-cameras were acting up they needed to go upstairs. Which, for Bodi, was perfect because he had just seen the cutest woman, whom he never would have noticed before if not stuck there otherwise. But with her buttoned-up academic kind of way, until she walked past, and he needed to take the elevator she was waiting for. She piqued his interest. When they meet, no last names are given. The subject of his job never comes up. While on the elevator during the storm they get stuck. The alarm button doesn’t work, there’s no phone, and no crawl-out space at the top to try and climb out. So they have to wait to be rescued, since they have no cell service. Bodi finds out Jayne is in her last year of getting her master's in library science. Marveled at her beauty and brains. Jayne can't drive, and her father doesn't let her. She’s twenty-three. But can’t wait to get away from her tyrannical father. He’s taken aback that she looks at herself, as if she were a plain Jayne. Which he does think isn’t the case. Although she is nothing like any of the other women he has been interested in before.

Bodi is finding it absolutely refreshing especially with her spunky little attitude, and the indignity over how her father still treats her because she still has to bide her time living under his roof. That is, until she graduates with her master’s. What does get her upset is that he treats her as if she is still in high school and allows, her new stepmonster to do the same? Her stepmonster is not much older than she is. Then they both take advantage of her as if she were their personal nanny to her seven-year-old sister, whom she loves. Online or not doesn't matter. The work and lectures all need to be worked on and attended to get credit to graduate. Knowing Jayne had homework to do. Her father still expected it of her. Otherwise, her stepmother took it out on her stepsister and she wouldn’t stand for that. She was more like her mother than her own mother. When they were rescued he asked her if she wanted a ride home she said yes if he wouldn’t mind. So he did. When he does drop her off you could say he was surprised.

Jayne had been smart enough not to have him drop her off at her actual home. He knew when she started to walk away, he saw her in the rearview mirror, and he realized that she had him drop her off down the street from where she actually lived. One smart cookie, that one. The only thing about this move is that her room has an en suite, so I have my own bathroom with a massive shower and a soaking tub, a walk-in closet, and even a fireplace. My dad is the head coach for the new expansion professional hockey team here, the Atlanta Thunder. If she’s honest, she’s actually kind of excited about his job as well. Especially the prospect of going to the games. Jayne loved hockey, and before she died, she and her Mom and she used to watch all of her Dad’s games. When he wasn’t married to a manipulative bitch. She and her father never had a great relationship but since her mom passed, he married her. It is non-existent. There has always been one hard and fast rule do not date my players. Especially after the one time you didn’t end well.

She sees it’s the dating app she recently signed up for. Jayne doesn’t know what came over her to do it but even though she is attractive enough, she’s both nerdy and busy, so meeting men has never been a priority for her. She figured this would be a safe enough way to at least dip a toe in the dating waters. This app because it’s completely anonymous and the rules of engagement are kind of cool. It’s called Blind Love, and you can’t exchange pictures or any personal information unless and until you want to. BRODERICK: Hey, Jeannie. I saw your profile and wanted to say hi. I’m twenty-five and live in the suburbs of Atlanta. If you’re interested, say hello. She used her mother’s name instead of her own just for an added layer of security. Since friends, she hadn’t seen in years were coming out of the woodwork, her father got hired by the Thunder. The last thing she wanted was a guy who wanted her just because of her dad. JEANNIE: Hi, Broderick. Nice to “meet” you. I’m twenty-three and moved to the Atlanta suburbs about a month ago. I’m in college getting my master’s and like long walks on the beach.

Here is where the fun begins Bodi had joined the same dating app. However, he was using his given name for his own protection. Not only safety, but he was also ready to be with someone for himself, and because of his career. This book has so many twists and turns. You get Hockey, mystery, friendship, a sexy love story, a raging father/coach, a stepmonster, and misconduct in so many forms, but not by the subjects you may think.

PENALTY KISS is the first instalment in Kat Mizera’s contemporary, adult PUCKS AND PENALTIES erotic, hockey romance series, a spin off from the LA Phantoms series. This is Atlanta Thunder professional hockey player Bodi Michener and twenty-three year old, university student / librarian Jayne Morrison’s story line. Bodi was first introduced in Fair Play /LA Phantoms.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Bodi and Jayne) PENALTY KISS follows the forbidden relationship between our story line couple. An accidental meet-cute at the local DMV finds Brodi and Jayne exchanging numbers but as their attraction grows between one another, a party for the Atlanta Thunder reveals the true nature of what is happening. Bodi is a rookie with the Atlanta Thunder, and Coach Morrison is Jayne’s father but there is more of a connection than they could have ever imagined-Bodi and Jayne are about to pay the price.

The world building follows several pathways including the dysfunctional dynamics between the members of the Morrison family, and the spiral of a team of players who are struggling with a possible rebellion between players and coach. Jayne is determined to become independent but her father’s rule is threatening any chance for her own happily ever after.

The relationship between Bodi and Jayne begins as a meet-cute but quickly builds into something more. Discovering Bodi’s connection to the team threatens any chance for happiness for our story line couple but Jayne is certain Brodi is the man she loves. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are energetic and often questionable. We are introduced to Coach Hugh Morrison and his wife Lourdes: players West McGregor, Vik Maslak, Simon Lacroix, Ashton Knight, Blaze Villaverde, team management and owners, Jayne’s friend and boss Kelly, and the return of Rome Castellano, and Billie Michener (Fair Play/LA Phantoms).

PENALTY KISS is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic and heart breaking; the romance is seductive; the characters are determined and charismatic.

First I want to say a huge thank you to Kat and Wildfire Marketing for the ARC of Penalty Kiss in exchange for my honest review.

Unfortunately, this book just didn’t hit right for me. There seemed to be a lot of plot points going on but also a whole lot of nothing at the same time. Honestly, these were my biggest turn offs:

1) The book wasn’t really marketed correctly- virgin? Where, bc I don’t see one in this book. In fact one of the main plots is her track record with being with her dad’s player. Soooo not sure where that came from. Teaching her to drive? We got maybe 1 or 2 scenes of her attempting to drive and then never mentioned again.

2) Secret relationship / forbidden- mmm well literally the only living being that doesn’t know about this relationship is her dad. They’re going on dates in public and every one of his teammates knows. They’re just not really giving secretly dating vibes.

3) I felt no connection with any of the characters and I felt like an outsider just being told things about the story instead of experiencing it with them. This could just be a me thing, but the characters in this book were too open. Why is everyone airing out their dirty laundry with each other during their first convo? I mean they’re lore dropping like crazy. “Hi nice to meet you here is how much I make a year, my parents died, I’m seeing coaches daughter, oh and I’m in therapy.” Idk it just felt so out of the blue and unnecessary most of the time. I can’t really explain my qualm with this specifically it’s probably just me disconnecting with the characters.

3.5) Along with the characters I’m just not sure how I feel about Jayne. She’s always talking about how much she wants out of her house to get away from her dad, but she’s still at home. Girl you’re a fully grown mid-20s adult…leave? Take out a loan for your last year of school? I mean idk but letting your dad control every friend and every move you make, not getting your license, bully you -when his only threat is to not pay for your last semester of masters degree. Ughhh it just irks me be a little independent girly PLEASE!

Overall, I don’t like to sound so harsh on a book especially bc I know the author surely worked hard to make this book. I did enjoy the base plot line and I could see the potential. I think just too many plot points took away from the characters themselves.

Bodi & Jayne ... hit by fate

Atlanta Thunder , a new series and a new hockey team from Kat Mizera, and they are the beginning of what I love most ... an expansion team! You know what that means ... secondary characters from previous series are now going to get to tell their stories. PENALTY KISS is the first book in the series and it was such a sweet, heartfelt, emotional, and entertaining read. I devoured it, even though it deserved to be savoured.

Bodi Michener, a previous Phantoms player, has been traded to the Thunder and is hoping it will mean a new start and a chance to permanently play in the major NHL league. Jayne Morrison is a shy, yet fiesty woman who is studying to gain her Masters, and is living under the roof of her tyrannical father. Nine months is all she has to endure and then she can move out of home and begin her life. Getting stuck in an elevator at the DDS was not what either wanted, but they start up as conversation and form a tentative friendship.

Bodi and Jayne are instantly attracted to each other, watching their friendship blossom was an absolute delight. I loved that Bodi fell hard and fast, he needed some happiness and love in his life. Jayne begins to grow in confidence around Bodi, but she is still worried about her father and what he will do when he finds out. Everything is turned upside down when they discover that Bodi's coach and Jayne's father are the same person. There is plenty of sneaking around, and help from Bodi's teammates, which enables the relationship to work ... until it doesn't. When Jayne's father discovers their secret there is a lot of nastiness, but something else is also revealed which had my jaw dropping on the ground. Not everything is as it appears.

PENALTY KISS was a fabulous read and a terrific beginning to this new series. I was so engaged by Bodi and Jayne's story. There was humour, drama, angst, wonderful friendships, and plenty of love. I loved the character crossovers from previous series, including the new captain West, whose story is up next is Chasing Love . If you love romance, spice and a little bit of mystery then this thoroughly engaging story is for you.

After a bad season with the LA Phantoms, Bodi Michener is claimed in the expansion draft by the Atlanta Thunder. A new team, a new city, and a clean slate is what Bodi needs, and he has no plans of screwing it up. Bodi has been working on becoming a better person over the summer through therapy and looking for more than one night stands and casual hookups. Bodi is at the DDS to get his drivers license updated when he gets stuck in an elevator with a cute girl he was checking out. Jayne Morrison is her last year of grad school and doing her internship at a library in the Atlanta suburb she lives in with her family. Jayne is at the DDS to get her permit to learn to drive when she gets stuck in an elevator with the cutest man she has ever seen. Jayne and Bodi hit it off and talk the whole time they are stranded together in the elevator. Both are attracted to the other and exchange numbers after the elevator opens. Bodi and Jayne are shocked to see each other at the first team get together at Coach Morrison's home. Bodi is surprised to learn Jayne is Coach's daughter, and Jayne is surprised to learn Bodi is a hockey player on her dad's team, the Atlanta Thunder. They agree that they can't continue to see each other, but fate has other plans for them when they meet up using a dating app. Bodi and Jayne agree there is something between them and don't want to walk away without trying. Who has been spying on Bodi and Jayne and feeding that information to Coach Morrison? How will Jayne's father react when he learns Jayne and Bodi have been seeing each other? Will Bodi have to choose between his career or Jayne when Coach Morrison benches him? Will Jayne believe Bodi when her father shows her proof that Bodi cheated on her? Can Bodi get to Jayne and get her to safety after learning her father got physical with her? What happens when Coach Morrison's illegal activities come to light? Will Bodi and Jayne step up and take care of Jayne's younger sister? I loved Penalty Kiss by Kat Mizera! Bodi and Jayne are a fantastic couple with amazing chemistry. I look forward to seeing more of West, Vic, Simon, and Ashton. I would highly recommend getting Penalty Kiss by Kat Mizera. New city means a new series and I’m so excited to see what happens in Atlanta. “Penalty Kiss” is a swoony, action packed and heartfelt strangers to lovers, coach’s daughter hockey romance that was a great start to this new series.

There’s a new team in the NHL and Bodi is one of the players that was traded to it. He’s determined to make this his fresh start thanks to the therapy he’s had. When out running errands, he meets Jayne. Jayne is a sweet librarian who is working on her masters. The two have an instant connection when they accidentally get trapped in an elevator. Bodi is determined to be the man she deserves but when he finds out that she is his coach’s daughter, the two are in a tricky situation. But as they spend time together, it’s clear how much they care for each other and that it’s worth the risk to be dating the coach’s daughter.

I loved how these two met at the DMV and the instant connection they had. They might appear to be complete opposites on the outside but they have a lot in common. Jayne is smart, genuine and I loved that she is getting her masters to be a librarian. Losing her mother at a young age definitely had an effect on her and her Dad should have been her biggest supporter. The things he did made me so angry for her. Bodi is a great guy and I loved how much he has worked on himself since we read about him in a different series. He had a lot of baggage from losing his parents when he was younger and the need he felt to protect and take care of his sister. I loved the slow burn as they got to know each other and really made sure that they had a connection before pursuing anything serious. The added suspense of the sneaky things her dad and stepmom were doing had me on the edge of my seat as everything unraveled. I loved the opposites attract part of this story and the ending for them was perfect.

I really enjoyed this book,it is such an adorable romance, between Bodi and Jayne who appear to be opposites..
Bodi being a Hockey Player and Jayne being a nerd and a Librarian But they are so perfect for eachother...soul mates.
Unfortunately for me I haven't read the other Hockey series that have been written by Kat Mizera and I believe there are some characters from previous books that make appearances.
But honestly that doesn't really matter with the flow and understanding of the story playing out.
Bodi and Jayne first meet when they get stuck in an elevator together,in that short space of time they chat and get to know a bit about eachother.
They discover they are both new in town Jayne following her family because her Dad has a new job,and Bodi for work,he has just joined the Atlanta Thunder Hockey team.
They exchange numbers..and so a friendship/romance begins..
But what Bodi doesn't know is that Jayne is his new coaches daughter.!!!..and what Jayne doesn't know is that Bodi is a player on her dad's new team.
You can imagine how that goes down not too well..
But nothing will stop these two budding love birds and although forbidden they begin a timeless, spicy relationship.
I liked Jayne she gives hope to all of us nerds out there..her family situation is awful though, she doesn't like her step-mother and her father is overprotective..She only tolerates them because of her little sister.
Bodi is so swoon worthy and it is so easy to fall in love with him,he sees Jayne for who she is and vice versa.I loved them together.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Penalty Kiss,it was a delight being in this Hockey world created by Kat Mizera.I am looking forward to book 2.
Fabulous read.

I am super excited about this new team, the Atlanta Thunder! Because it is an expansion team, we are getting a lot of side characters from previous Sidewinder, Phantoms and even Blizard books!
Bodi is coming from the Phantoms and he is ready for a new adventure after finally getting out of the minors and playing last season with the Phantoms. The year was a little rough for him on and off the ice and he is ready to make some changes in his life.
When Bodi is at the DDS office to change over his drivers license, he is stuck in the elevator with a somewhat shy, yet beautiful Jayne and the attraction is pretty immediate.
What Bodi doesn't realize is that Jayne is his new Head Coach's daughter, and of course Jayne has no idea Bodi is on the Thunder team.
Despite this coming to light and the coach warning them both (stay away from players Jayne and stay away from my daughter to all the Thunder) these two can't deny that kismet has brought them together.
Love the way these two really blossom when they are together. Bodi is finally free from the obligation of caring for his younger sister and Jayne has found someone who loves her for who she is. There is a lot of sneaking around for these two but they make it work.
When their relationship is uncovered, it opens up box of worms way bigger than just the two of them dating. Wow, I didn't see that coming!
I really enjoyed the crossover characters from other books, we got to visit with Bodi's sister Billie and Rome, Jamie is the new coach and West from Oathbreaker!!! I have to admit that I didn't realize it was THAT West until I read the sneak peek of the next Thunder book and now I can't wait!!!

The start of a new Kat Mizera hockey series is always exciting, and the Atlanta Thunder (Pucks & Penalties) start off with plenty of unexpected off-ice drama!

Bodi has matured since his departure from the LA Phantoms via the expansion draft. He’s put some time and effort to better himself by going to therapy and looking for more than one night stands and hookups. I truly loved this ‘new’ version of Bodi after all the drama with his sister Billie falling for his roommate & teammate.

As a boyfriend, Bodi is pretty incredible. I loved watching him fall for Jayne and how sweet and romantic he is with her. Finding out she’s his coach’s daughter at a team party shortly after they had started dating and getting to know each other was a challenge, but neither of them could resist their feelings for the other.

Jayne has a pretty good head on her shoulders, but her dad has been extremely controlling of her so she’s completely isolated after moving to Atlanta with her family. Her dad and stepmother are two outright mean individuals.

This book brings in several secondary characters from various series by Kat and getting to know them in this book and future books is going to be so much fun.

While this book features Bodi and Jayne, I loved seeing West recovering from his break-up with Briar (Playmaker series) and stepping up as team captain. His friendship with Bodi and the other guys living with him helped make this firat book in the series quickly feel like hanging out with longtime friends. I’m so eager for his book!

I received a free ARC from the author; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

This is Bodi and Jayne's story. Bodi is a hockey player who is a former Phantom player. Jayne, who lives a sheltered life, is also currently trying to get her master's. The couple had a chance encounter, which turned into friendship and then something more. They quickly realise that the chemistry between them will not be ignored. It becomes a meet-cute with a twist.

This couple's blossoming relationship is filled with chemistry, challenges, and growth in their characters, as we loved how open and honest they were with each other. Jayne's way of communicating with Bodi, things she could not say out loud, was put pen to paper. They made a beautiful couple, both just what the other needed, especially Jayne, after having such a controlling father who stifled her life.

We loved the characters. Bodi's teammates helped with the challenges this couple faced in their relationship. There are big revelations and more than a few surprises that threaten this couple's happiness. Jayne gives off these mousy vibes, which only intrigued Bodi more. After all Jayne has suffered, she remains a loving and compassionate woman. Bodi was a sweet, fun, and loving kind of guy, a far cry from the man he used to be.

You will find this story filled with family drama, beautiful friendships, love, romance, humor, some suspense, and intriguing characters. We enjoyed this one and are looking forward to reading West's story next.

The book Penalty Kiss starts the new hockey series by Kat Mizera with a huge bang!! There is a new NHL team, bringing together new characters with some characters from other books, forbidden romance, sticky situations, and so much more. This is exactly what I expect from her books but this one I think brings it to a whole new level. Her writing skills show you that while pro athletes life might seem awesome at a glance, behind closed doors there are lot of things happened that you would never believe.

Bodi and Jayne met in unusual circumstances but there is no denying the instant connection they have. They exchange numbers and are willing to take a chance. But when it is discovered that Jayne’s dad who is paying for her degree is also Bodi’s new NHL team coach they have to decide if they are willing to take the chance. Her dad has laid down the rules, but some of those rules seem a little weird. They try to hide it but someone on the team is ratting them out. Is it worth the risk of ruining a hockey career and finishing a degree for love? When you have the connection that Bodi and Jayne have, then there is no question about it. They will do anything to stay together, even if that means Bodi has to look at being traded or going to the minors.

Thanks to Wildfire Marketing and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Penalty Kiss is a forbidden hockey romance that hits hard, swoons harder, and leaves you desperate for more.

Kat Mizera kicks off her brand-new Pucks & Penalties series in the only way she knows how—with a gripping, high-impact storyline that perfectly balances swoon, sizzling chemistry, and a sharp twist that adds a delicious layer of suspense. This is hockey romance done right: intense on the ice, electric off it, and impossible to put down.

Penalty Kiss delivers a fresh start with high stakes. New town, new team, and a clean slate should have made it easy for Bodi to leave last season behind. But everything changes the moment he meets Jayne. Smart, strong, and completely unforgettable, Jayne isn’t just a distraction—she’s a complication. One that turns Bodi’s world upside down… especially when he discovers she’s his new coach’s daughter.

The forbidden element is handled brilliantly, heightening every glance, every touch, and every moment they fight what’s clearly inevitable. Mizera’s signature chemistry crackles on the page, and the emotional tension keeps you hooked from start to finish, while the suspenseful twist adds real depth to the story.

If you love hockey romance with edge, heart, and heat—Penalty Kiss is an absolute must-read and a powerful opening to what promises to be an unmissable series.

Having read Fair Play, the 6th book in the LA Phantoms series, I was already familiar with Bodi, who's character has grown quite a bit since moving to Georgia to join his new team. Jayne is completely adorable, if more than a bit naive, but I like their connection. Or should I say, connections...you'll see why. I recognize some of the other players, as I have read a few other of Kat's books, but I'm intrigued enough that I am going to have to go back and read those full series.
Bodi has a good bunch of guys in his corner, willing to protect him and Jayne when her father, the coach of Bodi's team (and all around NOT good guy) warns Bodi, and the team, away from his daughter. Daddy Dearest has some extreme anger issues, plus a younger wife with another player connection and a second young daughter who needs some attention from her parents badly.
Jayne has been moved around a lot in her life, since dad worked on various college hockey teams, so she has no real friends, just a lot of ambition to get done with school and move out. At first, she finds it hard to believe that Bodi could actually be attracted to her "librarian vibe", but they click on all levels, emotional and physical.
Overall, Penalty Kiss was both a great start to this new hokey series, and a fun read on its own. I look forward to seeing this couple again as Bodi's teammates find their own HEAs.

A great way to start a new series. Bodi just moved to the new NHL expansion team as a starter. He knows he didn’t play well the previous season and he is trying to get used to not being close to his sisters (whom he raised after their parents passed away). Jayne is also new to town, finishing her masters degree. I loved the way they met and (getting licenses) and stuck in an elevator. The connection they had right away was nice and I appreciated that she was nothing like who he usually went for. I also liked that she was surprised by his interest in her. They meet up a couple of times and really like each other.

The dating app, where there are no picture shared, is another way they are getting to know one another. They used variations of their names so they don’t realize they are talking to each other. When they realize that his new coach is her dad, they agree it is best to end things. But, they can’t stay away the attraction and connection is different and too important.

Her dad and stepmom are pieces of work who keep her isolated. Her younger sister is great. I adored how they found ways to be together and fought for each other and their relationship. I also liked seeing characters from other series. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.

Penalty Kiss, book one in the Pucks & Penalties series follows hockey player Broderick Michener (Bodi) and Jayne Morrison, a librarian in training, and the daughter of the new head coach. Bodi is finally getting a chance to play for the NHL after spending four years in the minors when his name is chosen in the expansion draft. Atlanta Thunder, a brand new team, in a new city, away from his past drama and a clean slate to start over and rebuild his career. Everything is going great until a chance meeting with Jayne has his world spinning, especially when he discovers that she’s his new coach’s daughter.. and strictly off limits. Jayne wasn’t looking for a boyfriend since they just arrived in Atlanta, but when she meets Bodi, he checks off all the boxes.. boxes she didn’t even know existed. Can the nerdy librarian really get the star hockey player? And can Bodi and Jayne find a way to be together without her father ending his career?
I didn't read his back story in the other series, but honestly, it didn't really play a part other then I wasn't sure what his background was, but it didn't really change the story for me although, I might have to grab a copy at some point to see what I missed.

Bodi is a professional hockey player who has changed teams twice in 12 months which of course involved moving states each time. He and Jayne meet at the DMV where he needs to get a new license and Jayne is getting her learner's permit. They actually end up stuck in the elevator together and start talking. He finds out that Jayne also just moved to Atlanta and that her dad is a bit of a helicopter parent. They are smitten with each and exchange numbers after they get out of the elevator. What they don't know is that they also match on a dating app and begin exchanging messages.

There is a lot going on in the story for it turns out that Jayne is the daughter of Bodi's new coach that doesn't like him at all and the coach's daughter is off limits to any team member. Bodi has his issues but they seem minor in light of the dysfunction in Jayne's family. Will they take a chance on each other?

I enjoyed watching Jayne come into her own and her growing relationship with Bodi. I hated her her father treated her and Bodi. Overall I enjoyed this story and can't wait for more to come for the Atlanta Thunder.

I loved this story. I started it and didn’t want to put it down.

Bodi‘s redemption arc was so good. I had been a bit disappointed in him from his sister‘s book, but in this story he’s grown so much. He wants to make the most of his shot at the big leagues, but he also knows what is most important and that is the woman he’s falling in love with. And he’s ready to do anything for her safety and happiness.

I also really love to Jayne. She’s such a mature and levelheaded young woman. She’s got a terrible family situation with a controlling father and a stepmother that treats her like an unpaid babysitter for her half sister – such a Cinderella story – but she’s determined to be strong, become independent and take control of her life. She’s also not willing to give up the man she loves.

I so loathed her father as a parent and the coach, he was absolutely horrible.

The story was sweet, romantic, spicy, but also sprinkled with a touch of mystery in danger.

I have received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Pucks & Penalties #1

Jayne Morrison is 23 in grad school doing her internship for her last semester to be a librarian. She's shy, quiet, still lives at home, doesn't drive but wants to learn which is why she's at the driver's license bureau. While there she gets stuck in an elevator with a stranger.

Bodi Michener is 25 and just got traded in the expansion draft to The Atlanta Thunder. He had a bad season so this is his chance to show he's better than that with a new team, coach, city.
He runs into Jayne, gets stuck in an elevator with her and they talk the whole time and hit it off.

There's one problem, her dad is his new head coach and he's made it very clear his daughter is off limits! Of course this doesn't stop them and they sneak around to see each other, growing closer every day. If only it was that easy.

4.25 stars
I enjoyed Bodi and Jayne's story. I did think she was naive but understand why. I love how he bonds with his new teammates and that they have each other's back and how he cares for Jayne.
Can't wait for West's book!

Penalty Kiss is professional hockey player Bodi Michener and his new coach’s daughter Jayne Morrison’s entertaining and at times rocky story. It’s book one in the new Pucks & Penalties Series and I loved everything about it from the characters to the wonderful friendships that are made from new teammates getting to know each other.
Bodi has been transferred to the Thunder and is hoping this is the move to kick start his NHL career what he didn’t expect was to fall for his coach’s daughter…….
Jayne is the daughter who is always on the background, she spends her time studying and looking out for her much younger stepsister and she knows Bodi should be off limits. Problem is when your heart wants someone it’s hard to fight it and her heart wants Bodi.
So what happens when lines are crossed.
This is a well written story that ticked my boxes, I swooned, I smiled and I held my breath as I cheered this couple on. The banter is witty, the chemistry is sizzling, the friendships are loyal and the characters easy to love.

Thoughts:

1. We get it. The only requirement H needed in the past to have sex seemed to be she only needed to be alive and good-looking. Stop freaking harping on him being a manwhore in the past. It's tiresome, overdone, and not at all an attractive trait. It's actually gross.
2. To go with the first -- Most women I take out would already have my dick in their mouths. -- Why? Why would you do that? I think I just threw up. Meanwhile, she's only had (mediocre) sex with two guys. Of course. Because heaven forbid the heroine have a good past sex life and his was shitty. Or both have a good one. Or we never know anything about either of their histories. And, yet another cliche, it's been years for her and only a couple months for him. However did he survive that? For someone who was so focused on hockey and raising his younger sister, he sure as hell found plenty of time to fuck around...literally. I am SO close to DNFing.
3. This could have been great, instead it was okay. Disappointed.

New team and new series!

Bodi Michener knows that being picked up by the Atlanta Thunder in the expansion draft is his chance to show everybody that he belongs playing in the NHL after playing so many years in the minors. Bodi never expected to meet Jayne Morrison standing in line for his new driver’s license when he just wanted to prove himself to his new team. But he had to decide what to do when he found out that she was the daughter of his new head coach and he doesn’t want her dating any hockey players.

Jayne has no idea Bodi was one her dad’s players with both of them warned against dating but their attraction was too strong.

I loved the start of a new series with a new team by Kat Mizera with new players and some characters that we have met on the author’s other series!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author and Wildfire Marketing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Penalty Kiss absolutely blew me away. I adored Jayne and Bodi story so much. The meet cute between these two was absolutely incredible. From the very start you can see these two are very smitten with one another. They are both new to the city. Jayne is new in town because her dad is the new head hockey coach. And Bodi moved to play at the newly expansion team. Once they learn who the other is and vice versa they know whatever was developing has to be put to an end. But the universe has a funny way and unknowingly they’ve been striking a relationship on the dating app. So there will be lots of sneaking around. Since she’s basically “off limits”. But the heart wants what the heart wants. There will be obstacles along the way. But one thing is for certain is that chemistry they share is undeniable. And with some help from some friends you’ll see everything will work out for the best. I can’t wait to see what the future whole for this series.

This story was definitely a rollercoaster; one that was a bumpy ride as I was trying to figure out how the story was going to go as I didn't know which way was up sometimes. The author did a good job keeping me guessing until near the end. I loved the sparks and chemistry between Jayne & Bodi. A romantic sports romance that had all the ingredients; a great read!

When Jayne & Bodi meet each other, it's a weird encounter but right from the first moment there's something between them that ignites a spark. As they part ways, fate seems to be throwing them back together but when Bodi finds out she's the daughter of his new coach, there's a line that he can't cross but the draw between them seems to be stronger. While they seem to grow closer to one another, there's a lot happening around them that both are finding strange. As time goes on, secrets are being laid bare. Will love find its way in the end?...

Grad student librarian meets professional hockey player in this dating the coach’s daughter story.

What I Loved:
- The MMC was all in
- The kismet
- The support they had for each other. This fell more on the MMC than the FMC, but I think she wanted to more and would have gotten there if more time had passed.
- The side characters, very much enjoyed them. Curious to see where the stories go in future books.

Things I couldn’t connect on:
- Even though there was talking about trying things in bed, him surprising her with an act is not something I found okay.
- Her inability to open fully (though this is understandable and explained more as the story goes on)
- The dad (the coach) and the wife (what horrible people!)

I thought this was an interesting story and starts what I’m assuming will be multiple books based on side characters. Definitely a drama filled, tumultuous start for this new hockey team, and curious where the author will take it.

I am obsessed with Kat Mizera books and this book was just amazing!!! I love a good opposites attract sports romance and this book was just that. I laughed, cried, and fist-pumped a few times while reading this book. I loved Bodi in Rome and Billie’s book Fair Play. I was escorted to see that he was getting his own book and a new series. I thought the storyline was original, page-turning, and exciting!!! The characters were complex and had an instant and undeniable chemistry. They were written perfectly for each other. I loved the journey of their slow-burning relationship. I loved the drama, angst, and spice. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series!!! -by Brooke

What a great story and start to a new series!
We met Bodi before and I am so glad that he got his story! It was nice to see some familiar faces too. I am so excited for this new series

A new expansion team, new city, new coach and new teammates. This series kicks off with a punch!
Forbidden love
Secret Romance
Lies
Blackmail
A scorching hot kiss
A couple that are absolutely perfect for each other.

Bodi and Jayne will have you laughing, gasping, squirming, needing a few cold showers and have you in tears. I couldn’t get enough of this book. This is such a great start and I am so excited for more.

You know it’s good when you send a text to the author because you have to talk about a scene!!!

An absolute must read!

Kat Mizera is bringing on all the feels in this destiny driven forbidden love story! With the first book in a brand new Pucks & Penalties hockey series, we see several familiar faces as players from former series converge together to form a new expansion team in Atlanta. I dearly loved Jayne and Bodi’s meet cute and the way they just kept finding themselves in each other’s realm no matter how much they tried to stay away after they discovered her dad is his new coach. There’s a secret dating aspect, roommate camaraderie, new team troubles and outright scandal. Great development to hook us on the new team, and a sweet yet sexy love story for straightlaced librarian Jayne. I loved every minute of their story and can’t wait to see what the other guys on the team have in store for us! Highly recommend to hockey romance fans!
