The Goddess Calls

Rate this book
The Maiden, Mother, and Crone keep the Clan’s magic alive.

They are the woven links to the Goddess herself.

When those threads are severed, the Clan is lost.

The Goddess Calls for her Chosen.

When she calls, who will answer?

A yearning for love leads to a fateful meeting, setting in motion more than what Kinley bargained for—instantaneous attraction, insatiable desire, and urges that she can’t even begin to understand. Nothing in her once quiet life is as it seems.

Magic exists and Kinley now has no idea what or who she is. She must break free from the geas that bind her powers and take her rightful place within her Clan.

If she can’t, the dark entity from her forgotten past will claim her for himself, and all that she holds dear will suffer.

The threads of fate are unwoven. The Song of the Goddess is Calling. Will the Chosen be able to reclaim all that she has lost?

This was such an unexpected fantastic read. I loved the magic and the clan and new magical creatures. Also loved the fact that the FMC was plussize and an actual adult. Yes our Kinley was late twenties instead of another 19 year old.

The story had some twists I didn't see coming that kept me on my toes. The writing style was good to follow and also loved the humor in the story. The friendship (found family) was really heartwarming. And the protective men. Oh my!! Such sexy sweethearts. The inner dialogues and the banter between all of the characters make me laugh out loud many times.

So about the story📖📚
Kinley the FMC is having a terrible dating life. She is a smart teacher that really got her life together except for the one big love. One day when Kinley is going on a roadtrip to meet her friend for a girls weekend she meets a group of four men. They are a sweet group with one very special big handsome man. After that weekend Kinley her world is turned upside down and nothing is the same.

📚 Urban fantasy
📚 Romantasy
📚 Fated mates
📚 Spice
📚 Found family
📚 Why choose?

Favorite quotes📖⬇️

"People don't fucking grow claws and change their eyes! I must be having a fucking mental breakdown."

"I'm in so much trouble. Be cool Kinley, be fucking cool!"

"You think Don will be up.....for breakfast? She snorts at herself. You're such a child."

A refreshing take on fantasy! Loved the magic, the clan dynamics, and that the FMC wasn’t the typical teenager. Some parts felt a little uneven, but overall it kept me hooked and I’d definitely recommend.

Lexi, Lexi, Lexi! 👏👏👏
The number of times I got literal goosebumps while reading this book… unreal. This story is utterly incredible—beyond words, really. If you love shifters, mates, found family, suspense, and romantasy, this is a must read!

I was hooked from the very first page and couldn’t put it down. The world Lexi built pulled me in, the characters felt alive, and the tension kept me flipping pages like my life depended on it. You guys, I can’t even put into words how much this story blew me away.

And Book 2? 👀 Lexi, I’m going to need some insider info ASAP, because I am not okay waiting after that ending!

I'm normally not a fan of romantasy but I was intrigued from the synopsis from the jump. I applied for an ARC and screamed when I got the email saying I was chosen. With that said, my opinions are my own and completely honest and heartfelt. From the beginning to the end I was all in. The world building, the relatable characters, that feeling of not belonging and finding that you're not as alone as you once thought, the suspense, the romance, the smut? I swear this book absolutely had it all. I couldn't put it down and had to reread a few pages because I felt like I couldn't miss a word. My heart is all in for this book and while cliffhangers usually make me rage, I cant WAIT to devour whatever comes next while kicking my feet like a teen girl.

The Goddess Calls by Lexi Macqueen
Is a fantastic read. Shifter type romance with magic, triggers and the best fictional men.

Loved this book to pieces. Cannot wait for the next book.

Kinley is a no nonsense woman who doesn’t bow to anyone, not even her mate (sometimes 😂). She’s the type of heroine I look for

Dom, well….. he’s the love her forever type of guy and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy reading his parts.

This is going to be another once of my “Roman Empire” series I can already feel it. MacQueen really knows how to pull you into this urban fantasy with the relatability of her characters. This was my first toe dip into urban fantasy and I’m glad I jumped in with this. I fell in love with Kinley and the whole cast of characters from the start. I thought I knew where things were going and the plot turned the other direction. Will be impatiently awaiting more books in this series!

This book completely swept me away. From the very first page, Lexi MacQueen’s vivid writing made me feel like I was inside the story. I could see the world, feel the emotions, and experience every twist right alongside the characters.
Let’s talk about Donovan… hello, new book boyfriend! 😍 He’s everything—brooding, fierce, and surprisingly tender. The banter between characters had me actually chuckling out loud more than once. The dialogue felt natural and sharp, and the relationships (both romantic and platonic) were so well developed.
Just when I thought I had a handle on where things were going…bam! That ending. Total cliffhanger. I need the next book immediately. Lexi MacQueen, if you see this: please don’t keep us waiting too long!
Highly recommend this to anyone who loves immersive fantasy and Magik, strong character dynamics, and a story that grabs you and doesn’t let go

For some reason, I found the beginning quite slow going, and I was about to give up, but I'm really, really glad I didn't. The story picked up pace and before I knew it, it was over.

The story took off, everything tied together beautifully, and at times the content made me want to pull my shirt away from my neck and cover my red cheeks 🤭

But it was beautiful, really. Everyone was amazing, at times so much so that I couldn't believe it.
The FMC was very likable and grew and grew, I'm rooting for her and I'm with her every step of the way.

MMC, I probably wouldn't know who to choose, I would take them all... absolutely all of them.
I'm very eager to see how it turns out and I will definitely wait for the sequel.

Note (for me 5/5):

Action: 🥷4

A captivating romantasy novel!

This book captivated me! The magical world, complex relationships, and amazing creatures enriched the story. Kinley, a refreshingly plus-size woman in her late twenties, stood out. The plot twists and humor were delightful. The touching idea of found family and lovable characters made me laugh and think. Kinley’s love story, a perfect blend of urban fantasy, is highly recommended.

O-M-G. This was my first urban fantasy novel and I ate this up. I enjoyed having a MMC that was an absolute perfect specimen of a man not only in physique but also in personality. Donovan knows how to treat a woman right. There were some tropes I’ve never explored before and I was very excited to experience them all. The writing was easy flowing and captivating. I enjoyed the thorough character development for everyone!! I felt like I got a good grasp on everyone’s personality and even glimpses of their relationships amongst each other (not just their relationships with the FMC). The cliffhanger was brutal though. I cannot wait for the second one. This book is a definite MUST READ.

The Goddess Calls completely pulled me into its world of ancient magic and destiny. What I loved most is that beneath all the mystical elements, the story feels deeply personal and emotional.

Kinley starts off relatable, she’s just living her life, carrying quiet longings and unanswered questions. When everything shifts and she’s thrust into a world of Clan magic, fate, and a past she can’t remember, you feel that confusion right along with her. Her journey isn’t just about power, it’s about identity. Watching her wrestle with who she is versus who she’s meant to be felt very human.

The Maiden, Mother, and Crone dynamic adds a rich, spiritual layer to the story. The connection to the Goddess feels sacred and powerful, and the stakes are high without feeling overdone. There’s romance here too, and it’s intense, full of longing and undeniable chemistry but it never overshadows the bigger story of self discovery.

The darker elements lurking in her past add tension and urgency, especially as the threat becomes more personal. I appreciated how the emotional growth matched the magical growth.

If you enjoy mystical fantasy with strong feminine energy, romance, and themes of reclaiming your power, this book is definitely worth reading.

This was such an unexpectedly addictive read for me. I got pulled in so fast, and once the story opened up, I was all in.

One of my favorite things about this book was Kinley. I loved that she felt like an actual adult with an established life instead of yet another super young FMC, and I really liked how relatable she felt even as everything around her started getting bigger, stranger, and more magical. She felt grounded in a way that made the whole story work for me.

I also really loved the mix of found family, fate, and suspense. The relationships were such a huge part of why this worked. The banter was fun, the group dynamic was warm and easy to get attached to, and the protective energy from the men was extremely my thing. It had that feeling of stepping into a world where you know these people are about to become everything to each other, and I eat that up every time.

Also… that ending absolutely made me need the next book.

This synopsis immediately pulled me in it feels like the beginning of a sweeping, mystical journey full of love, loss, and destiny. The way it speaks of the Maiden, Mother, and Crone keeping the Clan’s magic alive is both powerful and haunting. Kinley’s struggle between her yearning for love and the sudden awakening of powers she doesn’t understand sounds so relatable, even within this magical setting because who hasn’t felt unprepared for the challenges life suddenly brings? I love how it mixes romance, danger, and self-discovery, with the added weight of fate and forgotten pasts. It feels like the kind of story that will both break your heart and inspire you at the same time. Truly captivating!

Disclaimer: this is an ARC review, but all opinions are my own.

This urban romantasy was a delightful break from the real world. It was delicious, sexy, entertaining, and thoroughly worldbuilt. I couldn't put it down, and the world totally melted into nothing around me for every page I read. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a sexy romance with entertaining, relatable characters, and a gripping fantasy plot.

I absolutely loved this book! I was completely drawn into the world and the relationships between the characters. The protective male trope is one of my favourites, and this story captured it perfectly. Kinsey is such a likeable character, and I’m excited to see how her powers continue to develop throughout the series.

This was a fresh and delightful take on a shifter love story, and I genuinely cannot wait for the second instalment.
